PoliticsNigeria Loses N224 Billion Revenue To IPOB Sit-At-Home Order - The Guardian by Thanks18(op): 10:43am On Jun 01, 2018
Nigeria loses N224 billion revenue to IPOB sit-at-home order

*BZF members to be arraigned today

Nigeria may have lost about N224 billion to the sit–at-home called by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Wednesday to commemorate the slain Biafran supporters. The revelation came as stakeholders and experts put revenue loss of the southeast zone over the one day sit-at-home to over N40 billion, as the zone relies heavily on buying and selling for its sustenance.

Also, the police said yesterday that the 21 members of the Biafra Zionists Federation (BZF) arrested on Wednesday for attempt to declare Biafra independence and forceful seizure of Enugu government house would be arraigned in court today.IPOB’s Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, told The Guardian that Wednesday’s sit at home dealt a big blow on the economy as it brought commerce to its knees, adding that it would take over one week to recover what the economy lost.

“How do you want to aggregate it, is it in terms of goods that are brought into this zone or the ones that are produced that did not get to their destinations or the unseen businesses that the people engaged in? We know what situations like this can cause and the Nigerian government cannot say it is not pained by the loss”, he said.A former dean of study in the law faculty of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Prof. Gab Agu, said the action had adverse effect on the economy of the southeast zone, insisting that it should not be allowed to reoccur.

A lecturer in the Economics Department, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Sam Agu, said the action affected the average GDP of the zone in terms of revenue and production.Former Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Prof. Elo Amucheazi, said the sit-at-home was an indication of how the people feel about the situation of the county, stressing that they did this by restricting their services to the growth of the economy.

He called for actions that would address grievances and other feelings of the people, stressing that the exercise succeeded even with the threats from the various governments and agencies in the zone.A public analyst and businessman in Onitsha, Dr. Anayo Onwukwe said that Onitsha alone lost over N10 million revenue. He stated that the volume of business, which the commercial city was noted for daily, was reduced to nothing.

Chief Okwy Nnamani, one of the officials of the Ogbete main market put their loss of revenue at over two million naira, saying however that they were happy to pay the “sacrifice for our fallen heroes and heroines.’’The traders at Ariaria market in Aba would prefer to keep their revenue loss close to their chest. Their chairman, Mr. Lucky when contacted said he would not like to talk about it, especially when “nobody was forced to engage in it.”

In a statement however, IPOB said: “it is with a great sense of history and gratitude to all Biafrans that we observed this year’s event with resounding success across Biafraland and all over the world. That it succeeded despite all odds and machinations of the enemy will make it go down in annals of history as confirmation that IPOB under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is exceptionally indefatigable and the dominant force across the entire East not just Igboland. It is also confirmation that the vast majorities of our people are with IPOB and remain committed to our collective pursuit of self determination for all.

… As NIC takes over mediation process
By Luminous Jannamike

ABUJA – In consideration of the plight of health-seeking public and to give room for an amicable resolution of its dispute with the Federal Government, the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, on Wednesday agreed to suspend its 44 days old strike on Friday June 1, 2018.

This decision followed the intervention of the National Industrial Court, NIC, which offered to take over the mediation process between the striking health workers and the government.

Before now, an NGO, the Incorporated Trustees of the Kingdom Human Rights Foundation, KHRFI, had obtained a court order against JOHESU; mandating the health workers to suspend their industrial action on the 21st of May, 2018.

But, in pursuit of its constitutional rights to either comply or challenge the Court order, JOHESU filed an appeal at the Appellate Court.

However, the leadership of JOHESU decided to sheath its sword and direct the members of the union to resume duties since the NIC, as a neutral and impartial organ of the Judiciary, has mandated its mediation centre to take over the negotiation and reconciliation processes within the next 24 hrs in the interest of the public.

Good move by FG. If they don't resume, sack them all and request that they bring back all the hospital keys they took. Put up vacancy adverts and they'll be replaced in no time.

Or better still, share johesu salary amongst doctors and see the wonders they can do. It will even be a cheaper option, even if it's 70% of johesu salary. For example, if johesu salary is supposed to be N10m, tell the doctors to do their work and this N10M will be shared amongst them. The hospital will run at 150%.
Pathologists will takeover the lab.
200/300l medical students will takeover nurses.
100l medical students will takeover the pharmacists. (even wassce holder can takeover).
If traditional practitioners are doing physiotherapist work, then doctors can do it as well.
Aboki is already doing optometrist work.
Cleaners and gatemen can be employed on contract. Even patient relatives will be glad to volunteer

Your exclusive title is 'physician'. The word 'doctor' was derived from a Latin word 'docere' which mean to teach, NOT TO TREAT. You adopted it from philosophers and teachers of the old. You don't own an exclusive right to that title.

Therefore any professional has the right to be called 'doctor' within the ambit of his profession as it's done in advanced clime.
In advanced climes.
There are doctors of law (Juris.D)
There doctors of nursing practice (DNP)
There are doctors of pharmacy (Pharm.D)
There are doctors of clinical laboratory science (DCLS).
There are doctors of physiotherapy (D.PT)
There are doctors of Naturopathy (NMD
There are doctors of holistic health (HMD)

These are all professional doctorate.

When your colleagues run to those advanced countries seeking greener pastures, your colleagues address them as 'doctors' while struggling to pass USMLE and Plab.

Your exclusive title is 'physician' you don't own the title 'doctor'.

JOHESU is winning the fight. The current strike recorded huge success. It not only paralyzed health services at both state and federal health facilities nationwide, it also served as enlightenment to the public of the rot going in the sector. In the public poll conducted by the nation newspaper,83% Nigerians voted that health minister should be fired for his gross incompetence.
I have observed the following as the characteristics of NMA namely:

1. Arrogance and egotism as if they are the master and owners of the entire health sector
2. Sheer ignorance, daft and reactive to positive dawn coming to health sector which has been ravaged by their decades of misrule and retrograde steps to oblivion.
3. Poor human relationship skills when dealing with patients, colleagues and other professions in the team

During this strike, The New York Times mocked President Buhari for seeking medical care in UK while the health workers' strike have crippled the sector.
Four states like Lagos, sokoto, yobe and Kwara state have agreed to the demands of JOHESU. The hallmark of it is that Lagos state govt has appointed consultancy cadre for pharmacist; A nurse appointed Kwara state commissioner of health.
In my candid opinion, JOHESU should sustain the ongoing strike, Let Ministry of health first obey all the court injunctions in favour of JOHESU.

It's a free world but there's no need claiming to be a Christian when you don't want to abide by the tenets of the Christian faith. Saying that a lot of biblical concepts do not reconcile with today's reality and that you have to use interpretations to work out which ones you will deem appropriate is just creating your own fantasy. You don't pick and choose which part of God's word you obey according to your own whims and caprices. No one is forcing you to be a Christian or live by the Bible tenets. But when you chose to be a Christian and abide by the Bible, then you must know that you have to be completely obedient to God's instructions in the Bible. A half obedient Christian is just wasting his or her time. Choose ye this day whom you will serve, you can't serve God and Mammon at the same time!
You said it all. Half obedience is the same as rebellion. The Bible tenets stand valid throughout all ages and times.

You just contradicted urself dear. In that definition, a disease is a *condition* which results in the disorder of structure or function........ That condition is the UNDERLYING CAUSE that is being treated by the Doctor and his medical team. If that "condition" is not taken care of, u will just be wasting ur time except if you can identify and treat the underlying cause.
Dear, don't quote out of context when I was responding a jamboree that called himself a physician. A physiotherapist has a clinical expertise and autonomy to prevent, treat and rehabilitate an underlying cause and a disorder of structure or function using noninvasive techniques. Take time and read all my position in this thread. Also look into the WHO and Intl labour organization definition of Physiotherapist or Physical therapist.

WHO didn’t mince word saying that ‘Physiotherapists assess, plan and implement rehabilitative programs that improve or restore human motor functions, maximize movement ability, relieve pain syndromes, and TREAT or prevent physical challenges associated with injuries, diseases and other impairments. They apply a broad range of physical therapies and techniques such as movement, ultrasound, heating, laser and other techniques. They may develop and implement programmes for screening and prevention of common physical ailments and disorders. ILO in classifying their job stated that “Physiotherapists and related associate professionals TREAT disorders of bones, muscles and parts of the circulatory or the nervous system by manipulative methods, and ultrasound, heating, laser or similar techniques, or apply physiotherapy and related therapies as part of the treatment for the physically disabled, mentally ill or unbalanced.
As a physiotherapist, I prevent, treat and rehabilitate some conditions. But if you are threaten by my job roles, then you have a problem not me. Thanks

This is the WHO and ILO definition of Physiotherapists/Physical therapist.

Hairyrapunzel:
What is disability? Like I said disability isn't a disease. You don't even know your work.
Thank God you said a disease is a disorder that leads to loss of function or structure.
Disability isn't the disorder that leads to loss of function or structure. You want to force yourself to treat diseases when you too don't know jack about treating diseases.
Fear did not allow you define disability. You rehabilitate and you don't treat diseases accept it.
A physiotherapists doesn't treat any disease. Their function is to rehabilitate people who have impairments or disability.
Diseases and accidents lead to disabilities. You rehabilitate patients with disabilities and do not treat the disease process. Stop lying to yourself. You don't even know your job.
See someone that thinks hemiplegia and muscular deformity is a disease.
Accept the fact that you don't treat diseases.
That's how you will be saying you treat diseases when you don't know jack about diseases.
Let me sound this to you as it has becoming my routine these days when confronted by medical illiterates like you. Just as the great Ikemba once said: "Having a dialogue with my country men is like having a dialogue with the deaf; it requires a great deal of repetition, a great deal of shouting and a great deal of gesticulation. In spite of all these efforts, you still run the risk of being misunderstood". You are simply daft, deaf or arrogant. You are very good in raising dust but very poor to substantiate those nothing with intelligent argument backed with logical answer and facts. I explain what disease is all about, instead of taking ample time to digest it, you conjured up nonsense. I see you have a fundamental problem and that's shallow understanding. Stop taking coffee and be hallucinating. Stop cramming for my point is not all those pathways in biochemistry. If you don't have anything to say again, keep mute than exhibiting a broad day light audacious ignorance. This is 21st century(age of information) and not dark ages where coercion is a tool in reasoning. I am a Physiotherapist. I know my job description and I owe you no further explanation as your mind is locked up with key of prejudice and illiteracy. I am through with you.
