Hmm.. you make it sound so beautiful, easy and efficient. I did a quote with an agent once with the number of appliances I mentioned earlier , 2 x 1.5hp ACs, 3 x 1hp ACs, 1 fridge, 1 freezer and 1 TV. If I remember, he told me I would need about a 13.5kw to 15kw system. And the cost quoted was over 8million. While that didnt seem too bad at first, I was also told by another agent that even with that system in place, it wouldnt still power my house for up to 24 hours, and I would need to pray for high intensity sunlight to maximize its production. Was also told most of the solar chargers and inverters in the market are fake, and lest I forget, the 13.5 kw system meant I had to have up to solar panels on my tiny roof space. The whole process and stories were just discouraging. And yeah, its also still very expensive abroad.
Well, I believe the agents are billing you at least twice of what it should normally cost. Check out the quote for this 15.6kva package, complete even with wiring. Don't even trust this quote here, this is just online; should be 30 to 40 percent cheaper at the shops. Unfortunately, for some reasons, I am not in a position to help but I just want you to know that you can get it much cheaper. Though shipping could be another thing.

Price depends on lots of things but trust an agent, they will probably get you the lowest quality stuff just and they might not spend no more than 3M for that 8M quotation.

Is solar really that effective?... Can it really produce the same amount of power as a simple 10 or 15kva diesel gen?... In a house which has a refrigerator, a deep freezer, 2 x 2horse power ACs and 3 x 1 hp ACs, what exactly is the size of the solar system that can efficiently power such a home 24hrs?... I'm giessing in that case, one might need to buy an extra plot of land by the side to install the solar cells, cos the roof space of this house would probably not be sufficient to take the number of cells required. Just thinking out loud!
Truth is, it is overpriced in Nigeria. If you have someone who can buy and send from abroad, quite affordable. A 10kva system would cost around 2M with shipping with good warranty. Also it doesn't take so much space. A 375W panel will take up the same space as a 100W. Issue is that most Nigerian importers bring in the 100W therebye taking too much space. There are lots of advanced panels, some even foldable. You also need to select energy saving AC and all that. Sometimes, what most homes need is a humidifier n not AC.

Those panels will pay for themselves in 3 to 5 years with 25years lifespan.

It's expensive tho, but a lot of people can comfortably afford but they wouldn't.
PoliticsRe: Metering: You’re Wrong, Power Distributors Reply Fashola by ThatCEO: 10:01am On Jul 18, 2018
Solar will solve all these things. However, a typical Nigerian rich man who can afford it prefers to buy diesel to power his Mikano so he can be seen as a big man

My friend (Kene) got this job straight from China here and they've been undergoing trainings in Hebei Provence along with other graduating students from other countries.

Do you know the funny thing? They told them that they will be paid "according to the minimum wage in their home countries". Like WTF! angry

So the guys from Kaz for instance with the same degree and the same training will be earning 10dollars/per month. While the ones Nigeria (based on our 18k minimum wage) will get 10 times less angry

Well, they guy told me "at all at all, an em bad pass", so he has jejely packed his bag and heading home.

China has seen that our system is quite porus, we cannot help ourselves and they found a way to exploit Africans because of our evil leaders. See us shouting "good development" on this thread when they are massively ripping us off!
Hehe. Your guy ISSA mumu. They pay based on region but that's a wrong translation of it. There is no way your guy is not earning above 150k. Even KPMG n PWC pay based on region, but fresh grads there still earn 140k ish.

Not ready to dig into this, tell him to go back if he can.

SMH. How was it poorly maintained? The 406 I raced was a 2.9L v6 releasing 204 horsepower. How can you compare that with an underpowered i4 Camry that churns out only 158horses? Research please before posting thrash
Very cool thread bro. You are right about the Peugeot. The biggest humiliation I ever suffered was by a 1995'ish 306 on the express o. Talk more of a 406. I was driving an 06 Highlander, and I rarely get overtaken n that is more on driving brilliance, nice lane switching, and good shocks; type of car don't matter so much.

But this your Infiniti sounds too good. Have you ever tried a 3.5L 2008'ish Avalon before? That's d only Toyota worth buying. Rumour has it that it came with a factory fitted Japanese spirit of doom which comes into your head when you are driving and urging u to press down on d throttle just a bit more. grin I made up the rumour. Enjoy your ride bro, and don't you dare baby that car wink

Fayose should dump this brace already, that trick is stale.

The best part of this election was that no one died for some selfish politicians. Ekiti people were wise, they only collected money shared, no need to die for anybody.

One reason Nigeria has yet to make progress in most areas is our ignorance, disregard & obfuscation of data. For selfish reasons, we’ve developed a culture of lies and secrecy. You can help to stop this by taking the #EndSARS survey.

Here are 5 reasons you should take the #EndSARS survey:
1. It’s is an anonymous survey, your identity is fully protected.
2. It’s a short survey. Most people complete it in 3minutes.
3. You are contributing to the birth of a new Nigeria that your children will be proud of.
4. It will help us understand the problem better and assist our advocacy for responsible policing in Nigeria.
5. You will be contributing to getting justice for many Nigerians that have lost their lives to bad governance, irresponsible policing and inept intelligence gathering.

So, don’t hesitate to click the following link to share your experience http://www.endsars.org.ng Call someone who has had an experience and encourage them to take the surevey too. Do this for you!! Do this for Nigeria!!
Was shocked that the survey stopped after the first question. I haven't had a SARS encounter but I can say things. That survey shouldn't have ended there.

For credibility, the survey needs to be balanced. Don't make it a sole case of condemning the SARS so as not to render your report rather useless. People who have good things about SARS should also be free to talk. They might be in the minority but their voices matters slot.

Nice thread

@einsteino

I think it's nice to separate these softwares based on specialization. Some peeps up there are already getting low self esteem because they can't use the software. But in reality, they probably would never need them.

Civil is not all about structures. Na. Far from it, I find structures boring.

In any case, if you want to specialize in geotech. ABAQUS, PLAXIS, ANSYS, and learn AutoCAD or archicad. And Don't just start learning everything in ABAQUS, learn the parts that relate to geotech like railway n the likes.

We really need to start specializing in Nigeria, this idea of learning everything is so wrong

A site like this will cost how much?

http://worldscape360.com

Thanks for your contributions.
Building a website shouldn't cost an arm and a leg but it is very important that after the design, you also make changes on the website on your own. Designers will hardly ever get it right, there will always be this tiny color shade u wish u can put there.

Also watch out for plagiarism, pasting stuffs from other sites will not work for you. Google will not rank your site. Another things is the photos, if you copy photos from other sites u could be hit especially if your site gets bigger.

Last thing, never ever trust this Nairaland crowd! 99.99% of them won't bother or care about your site. Just telling u just so you don't get the shock. And don't expect anything reasonable from the site in the first 6 months at least and always write for search engines.

To me, if you can make your voice a bit "international", a YouTube channel would be best. I believe you can nail it back to back to back on YouTube. Why? You are making cool videos for the entire world n not for Nigerians (no offense) who prefer the gossip blogs.

Good luck whatever you decide but don't raise your expectations so high just yet. And the question I feel you should be addressing is what is the size of your target audience?

InvestmentHelp Needed! A Chinese Friend Wants To Setup A Consulting Company In Nigeria by ThatCEO(op): 6:35am On Jun 07, 2018
There is a good Chinese friend of mine based in Beijing. She is looking at businesses she can do in Africa, Nigeria especially. China is a place that when you get to, you have zero knowledge of the language. If there is nobody picking you at the airport; I guarantee you will be 100 percent lost on arrival. This is not a country like France or Germany when you can read some of the road signs even though you can't speak French or German. In China, you can't read nothing. And this has created a potentially viable business opportunity.

My friend speaks perfect English and is considering having a consulting company here in Nigeria. Every state Government in Nigeria all wants multiple chinese investor and are voraciously seeking them. Every Nigerian business deals with China directly or not. It's not a coincidence that the President has sanctioned almost $3B of our reserve to be converted to the Chinese yuan.

Even though most people have Alibaba on their phones and can buy stuffs from China directly, they usually pay 5 or 6 times what it would normally cost in china. Any serious business would want to deal with the Chinese directly.

What would be the nature of her business?
1. Language translation. If some people wants to come check out stuffs in China. She can set up machinery to ensure that they meet the right people as language is a very big barrier. You can't even take a taxi on your own if you don't understand the language. If you know, you know.

2. Sourcing for goods. Any company that lands in china will get lost except if they have someone like her who knows the factories and can negotiate great prices for them. Yes, maybe you can get a translator. But you don't want to get a translator who is working for the company. You are her client, and she will always be on your side.

3. If you are a state or local Government. You want to order tractors, fertilizer, vehicles, set up factory, solar energy or attract investment, she got you too. You can't just take the next flight to China with hope that tractor sellers will meet you at the airport.

4. It could even be a pharmaceutical company sourcing for raw materials. She can take of everything.

5. Furniture businesses, and super market chains are not left out. If you want to be the next innoson and want to set up your vehicle manufacturing plant, she got you. Hospitals that want to equip, big building projects who needs finishing materials on the cheap; she has the connection!

She intends to have a physical office in Nigeria which will serve as a link between Nigerian business and China. If you intend to buy anything, or even want to have idea of prices, you can get great info from her. She won't be charging for enquiries.

If you have decided to travel to China to have first hand look; she can organize people that will give you a tour. Book your hotel n taxi or train tickets. Help you communicate with the locals, and always make sure you get the lowest prices, always.

One more thing, the best of anything can be found in China. The fact that fake products from China are imported into Nigeria doesn't mean they don't make the best. They only give you the quality you ask for. Nigerian businessmen tend to lean towards the lower quality goods which is not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes, people can't afford the best quality stuffs. Quality is never an issue here, that's my point.

What she needs?
1. Is this a viable business opportunity.
2. What could be the cost implications?
3. She is also interested in Nigerians who got great contacts with businesses or manufacturing plants regardless of the sector of the economy.
4. She also needs any general advice as regards to doing businesses in Nigeria. Or anything she should be aware of.

Thanks, all opinions are valid.
