Or, I can take you to St. Catherines (free of charge). But I live in London. It will take me 2.5 hours to get to get to you in Etobicoke. Can you reschedule your St. Catherine's appointment?

A little advice wanted from landed seniors that have done this before...

Landed in Airbnb. was hopeful of finding a place asap so only got a week. but I am starting to wonder if my budget is realistic. I chose Toronto because the Mrs and I are both in finance and I also have future plans that sort of make Ontario the only choice for us. We wanted an apartment of any sort except a basement either in Etobicoke, Scarborough, north and east york and Mississauga, but we can't seem to find anything under $1500 that is not a basement (we actually started from a budget of $1300 o, just to show you how much we have pushed our limits on this budget thing)...

Can anyone advise if this amount is reasonable and if I just need to keep searching? Its just frustrating when you see a price on Kijiji and you check the company site and its $1900 instead, or you call the management office and they either don't answer or they tell you the property is not available. I really do not want a basement apartment for my family, so I want to know if my budget is even realistic at all. I would appreciate any input on this or any connections that would help to find a place ASAP. una do well...

Why not taking a basement for now and then move to an apartment later? I believe the rent amount outlined in your post are reasonable for the GTA
Questions for you, any particular reason why you chose the GTA? How old are your kids?

I guess it is because I responded to you in French. So, I wont make the mistake of writing French again on this thread.

Actually, your writing is good. I understand that you aren't confident with your ability to speak French. However, just like with everything else in life, practice makes it better.
I have met some English speaking people who had improved their French in their field of work.

What surprises me is the fact that most Nigerians I have met who speak French are very fluent when compared to American or English Canadian who speak French.

The Nigerians I have met speak a French that is very clear. You won't understand anything from people speaking French in New Brunswick.

I believe getting a bilingual job will help you ciment your confidence with the French language.
I am sure you will be fine.

How could you be certain it was the reason for the denial? Again a transcript isn't the only thing vo take into consideration to grant or denied a visa. Maybe the decision was already made even before the interview .
Only the vo knows for sure why the visa was denied

En tant que bilingue, tu auras beaucoup de chance sur le marché d'emploi. En Ontario par example, beaucoup de banques cherchent des personnes bilingues pour faire le service a la clientèle.
En plus, en tant que bilingue tu peux aussi considerer une carrière dans l'enseignement primaire ou secondaire. Les personnes bilingues sont très recherchées.

Ma soeur habite Calgary et elle prefère l'Alberta mieux que l'Ontario. Mais le cout de vie est tres elevé en Alberta

Before you can stone the lady, I would want to have all the facts which include her side of the story. You can't kill someone on the basis of hearsay. There is a reason why newspapers use the terminology "allege"

Ontario is huge... very huge. The southern Ontario offer more opportunities than the northern part of Ontario

The Most expensive place in Ontario is the GTA (Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Ajax, Withby, Vaughan, markham, Oakville etc ... ) .

You should consider places in the Southern Ontario like London, St.Catherines, Kitchener, Waterloo, Barrie, Kingston, Windsor ...

The North (Thunder Bay, North Bay, Sault Saint Marie, Sudbury, lenora etc...) may be cheaper but can get extremely cold. Less opportunity in the North. You may also have to deal with the French wahala in the North given that a lot of communities there are made of French Canadians who had settled in Ontario since 1615, Franco-Ontarian. A lot of businesses are bilingual in the north.

In my opinion, the North isn't worth it even though it may be very cheap to live there. You may end up been the only black in your community if you go north

In Which province are you planning to reside?
In Quebec daycares have low cost given that they are subsidized by the government.
In any case, as a new immigrant you should qualify for subsidized daycare in most of provinces. I know Ontario has subsidized daycare for people with low income. Given that you haven't filed any taxes, you will be considered as low income

The truth is nobody here can tell you what you missed, only the VOs. We can only advise what we think, in our own personal opinion, what is best for you.

1. Try not to over answer questions. Let them ask before you reply. I don't know but did the Vo ask where you are going to and what you are going to do? Likewise your travel history, from your transcript she didn't ask what you went to do in those countries apart from China.

2. We should be careful with the replies to questions. The use of unsure words like about, almost, I think etc (there are a lot) at an interview shows the person isn't sure of the answer thereby casting doubts in the VOs mind.

Like I said, we don't have the solution only opinion. Try again after 6 months (not like there are available appointment dates sef) but make sure you prepare well and prayer for favour.

Nobody lives in the US embassy except the VO's that work there.

They alone are in a much better position to give accurate stats of each visas they approve per countries.

We have loads of Dropbox, immigrant visas and non immigrant visas, approved for Nigerians all around the world (outside Nigeria) that are not seen by most of us, those could be accounting for the 45% ratio. But definitely not the physical number of approved persons you see at the Lagos or Abuja embassy of theirs, those one can never be more than 10-20% approval rate.
