No one knows tomorrow. Pictures of this football star have been trending over social media platforms and the reason is very obvious. Four years ago, Manchester City striker, Gabriel Jesus was painting the streets in preparation for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

Yesterday, Gabriel Jesus started in Brazil's first match against Switzerland at the ongoing world cup tournament. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

The viral pictures from 2014 show a 17-year-old Gabriel Jesus, brush in hand, helping to paint the street where he lived as World Cup fever swept Brazil. Four years on, 21-year-old Jesus is no longer the painter but the painted.

It has been a meteoric rise for a player whose £27 million move to Manchester City from Palmeiras in January last year introduced an European audience to a talent on which Brazil are pinning so many hopes. He helped Manchester City demolish a series of records en route to lifting the Premier League title and now he's in Russia trying to help his country.

Now, several adjoining houses in Jardim Peri, the Sao Paulo neighbourhood where he grew up, have been painted with an image of Jesus performing his now familiar goal celebration, where he pretends to phone his mother, Dona Vera, his biggest fan and harshest critic.

But the Brazilian scouting system is just first class, the way they manufacture these talents is just amazing.
Here in Nigeria, with over 150 million people they cannot manage to find a half decent striker to pair a washed out Ighalo. All we do is look for is finished products of mixed perantage whose only claim to performance is the better environment theygrew up in.

Tell me in four years what will Gabriel Jesus have learnt in Brazil to make him start as top 9 for the 'Selecao'. The boy is just raw talent, period. We on the other hand want 'foreign based professionals' even if he plays in Azerbaijan and cannot control a five metre pass and when we cannot we will recycle old cargoes till tjey can barely walk.

When u begin to see rejection as nothing then u will realise its really that nothing... Rejection is a normal thing that's the first thing u should learn & let sink in u, staying rejected & dwelling in the vibe/energy of rejection is the problem. At some point we get rejected not just in relationships but in life generallly & a lot of times we also get quickly accepted by those who initially rejected us. So that mentality of how to handle rejection is all in ur head.. Bro there is no big deal about being rejected. Personally rejection is the last thing i worry about. Until Mikel is replaced or we get a creative midfielder ,Nigeria will not win tournament .Mikel is not good for No 10 jersey and until we realise that and forget sentiment,we will always loose and achieve nothing.

Preparation involves the selection of players. Go round, find good players and give them a chance. We have hungry youths who want to play. The Nigerian team are lazy, they can't press or do anything.

Rohr threw away 3-5-2 formation, for trash. This Croatian team is old and slow, he failed to capitalise on that with pace.

Time to start reinventing the African local leagues and focusing on its players. That is the only way out.
Let look at the previous world cup. When the African teams were taking the local league players to the world cup, we were getting closer and closer to win the world cup. 1982 - 1986 - 1990.

Starting 1994 , African team started to take only foreign based players to the world cup, we haven't done any better than what we did in 1990. Cameroon reached the quarter final in 1990 with half of the players from their local league. But ever since Cameroon had started to select only foreign based players, they haven't been able to pass the group stage.

Back in the days when African teams used to take players from local leagues to the world cup, the results were way better than what we are having now with players from supposedly big leagues.

And Africans are paying billions for Europeans coaches.

Hello friends,

I know I shouldn't be asking this question here but I uderstand thhere is no where else I would get first hand counsel.

I am hoping to get ITA soon and I intend to come over with my wife and kids, we have been married since over five years and blessed with children but the thorny sissue is that we only got married traditionally. We are considering going through the process of getting a marriage certificate from a Local Govt. registry but I am also feeling that might hinder our getting PR since the certificate will bear a recent date.

Note: My children have valid birth certificates and my wife's masters degree carries my name(Her new name).

Should we apply as common law partners or go ahead with registering our marriage legally?

what can an average nigerian player gain in a nigerian league of today. Many of our so caled leagues underpay our players and some owe them allowances for months.i support them venturing out to foreign leagues to gain exposure. But if they have to go to foreign leagues it should be good ones and not some kpako kpako one all in d name of going abroad.the world cup is for the big boys..the guys who know the all in in the round leather game. Look at Saudi Arabia that its players hardly go out to european leagues. Majority of them are home based.look at how they flopped in their opening match. An average team like Russia whopped them 5-0. In korea-japan 2002 the saudis where smashed 8-0 by the Germans. Why is all this so?..its because they are all stuck on home base.they dont go out to european leagues to develop their football. Football changes everyday and if u isolate urself at home u will left behind. On the issue of nigerians not havin an interest in local leagues ..let there be enough of marketing of our leagues and if this is done nigerians will show more interest in the local leagues.most of our league football looks like those ones we played at the back of the primary school with monkey post. You say the Saudis aren't performing well in the world cup because they don't have players in big leagues.
What about the African. Since 1994, African teams have been bringing players from big leagues to the world cup but they have nothing to show for it. Cameroon used to do very well with local players in the world cup than they are doing now with big league players.

For your information, some players in the Angola and Congolese local leagues makes more money than the average player in the Belgian league.

In Angola you have players who makes up to 30 thousands US dollars a month.
That is why you find players leaving European leagues to play in Angola.

Same thing with the Congo. You will find many players from Ghana, Cameroun, Ivory Cost playing in the Congo becausr they make good money there.

I believe African football will take off the day Africans will stop patronizing European leagues at the expense of African leagues.

For instance, all Nigerians like English soccer teams but a lot of Nigerian know anything about the Nigerian local league.
Adding to that, I remember those days when African teams to the world cup were made up of players from African leagues. During those years, we used to see progress made by African teams from one world cup edition to the next.
From 1982 when Cameroon tied Italy in group stage. Italy ended up winning the world cup. Cameroon didn't lose or win any game during that world cup. Algeria stunned the world by beating Germany in their opening game. All the players from Cameroon and Algeria were from their local leagues.

Then come 1986, Morocco was the head of their group. They even beat Portugal 3-1. Morocco became the first African team to make it to the second round of the world cup, barely losing to eventual runners-up West Germany 1–0 . All the players from Morocco were from their local league.

Then 1990 with Cameroon who advanced to 1/4 final barely losing to England in extra time. More than half of Cameroun players were from the local league.

The disaster had started in 1994 were only players based in Europe were allowed to join African teams going to the world cup. Even since, we never see any progress made by any African team like we have seen from 1982, 1986 and 1990. Senegal had reached the 1/4 final in 2002 but this was already achieved by Cameroon in 1990. Cameroon never passed the group stage anymore.

Hi, you will have to formally adopt her, get the court papers to prove this then add her to your application like any other family member. Once she crosses 21 years of age, she will have to apply on her own and cannot come as your dependent.

Blackbuddy, actually the age of dependent child had changed. Anyone over 18 can't be included as dependent child in the application

Yesterday I heard my neighbour was coming back late from watching football and vigilante group beat him up mercilessly... HE DIED! He was a husband and a father, plus the wife is heavily pregnant. He died living in Nigeria. This would never happen in saner countries. Police on patrol in the states would either show you directions or even drive you home. A young woman died of cancer because there are only 3 working chemotherapy machines in the entire country, THREE!

So you’d ask yourself, If you had an opportunity to leave Nigeria and even lie to get pity for the sake of your children, would you take it or remain there??
