Bad news for landlords. All those useless tenants that love defaulting on rent will have a field day with this.
Some won't have money to renew, and won't want to move out, you'll now be asking yourself if you are the one that owns house or if it's tenant. I'm sure the law was made to protect tenants from bad landlords, but what protection do landlords get from bad tenants? Hopefully it's click-bait sha, and the full policy provides protection to landlords as well, because a law that seems this lopsided will discourage fresh investment in real estate. Nigerian's are generally bad at designing laws, but then we have to make them. |

DissTroy: This is also why I believe if the government is serious about insecurity, it can end it in weeks.
Bandits go live on Facebook and TikTok. The government can request access to their details and accounts. Meta is technically required to give it to them on national security reasons.
The FBI was granted access to the Discord account of the Charlie Kirk assassin and that's how those who ploted it were investigated and the evidence to nail them.
Nigeria can get access too if we are serious. Bandits are not soft targets, plus our force are lacking in resources, manpower, and willingness to do the job of keeping people safe. |

The real question we should be asking is why a 300 Level undergraduate of Business Administration working remotely for an Indian and Polish tech company as a Web Developer earns (comparatively paltry as the pay is and as a Junior Developer) more than what a CMD in Nigeria earns today annually.
Or why a Doctor, on the average, earns less than an SEO Copywriter on Upwork, even when the latter takes on Nigerian/African clients. There was a time doing medicine guaranteed a good life, it's odd to see doctors 5 or more years into practice still hopping buses, looking tattared and overworked. |

Lol, it was the link you posted that actually solidified my position. Once again, a CMD (or doctor of grade level 13 above) earning 3.5M yearly from the government as at 2011 (basic+ allowance), could afford to sponsor university education for two kids in certain parts of Europe and America if he had private practice that matched what he got from the government. |

Whether 2006 or 2011 no CMD could have sent 2 kids to the US or to Europe for university studies from his salary. 2011 was more my period of reference. Which of the figures are wrong, cause I simply lifted them from the proposed salaries for medical officers, and 2.5M was basic salary for a level 13 step 1 medical doctor. Assumption is plus allowances, that can get up to 3.6M...if you add private practice, we might have double that, up to 7.2. There were schools in Europe where semesters tuition is around $2,500 USD, less sef, very possible to sustain kids in those schools based off that salary. |

I have given you the numbers and the links. I have shown you how the meal allowance per annum was #10,800 per annum in 2006 for CMDs. Again, it's on page 82 in that link. Stop hopping across different time periods like a mudskipper in the same argument.
Doctors earned better than other civil servants on average, but not enough to have funded forays for their kids into schooling abroad in 2006ish. Not with the forex rate weight against annual salaries.
I agree. Mr Faruk was dealing in scorpion venom and 'mercury' from grandfather clocks, too. In 2011, a CMD would have been earning around 7.5M per year from private and personal practice, which would come to around 50K USD. From that money he'd have been able to sustain two kids in the higher institution in many parts of Europe, and some parts of the USA. School fees for both kids 12K per year Living expenses for both kids 18K per year (flight was typically twice, once at the beginning of their program, and another at the end of their 4 year program, so that's miscellaneous). The CMD would have still had 20K USD (about 3M then) to guide in Nigeria. Mr Faruk was accused of spending the equivalent of 300M per year on his children's school fees, while on a salary of 50M per year...there's no Math you want to solve that'd explain how he's able to do that through his salary. You could have criticized Mr Faruk for being corrupt and living way above his income without using it as an opportunity to resurrect an Akamu argument you made some time in the past, but alas |

DissTroy: Even private practice was frowned upon for civil servants back then because of assumed divided loyalties. To navigate this, a few would work in , say, Ikeja then own a medical center in Sagumu or Adalemo or Ijoko. No social media then so it was easier to keep it under the hood from your PPA.

I don't even know if I can't fault those CMDs remembering what I do about how the government treated them. But, still, to fund their lifestyles was no way bankrolled by their salaries alone. You've left numbers and embraced conjecture Doing another job alongside your government work has been frowned upon since forever, but it has never stopped government workers from those selling melon, clothes, jewelries, land, private medical practice and even ghosting totally. And in 2006, salaries were much lower. I think minimum wage was reviewed twice in those 5 years.
I done the analyses over and over, and not just on this thread. I've been having debate for a long time on other platforms. A CMD earning at least 46K USD in public and private practice would have afforded school fees and living expenses of as low as 25K USD per year for two kids in Ukraine or Ireland. |

DissTroy: You're going back and forth. You mention 2006 - 2007. I checked that period then you mentioned for 2011.
Focus on the time period in view. Then convert the salaries to dollar.
Also, factor in expenses from annual salaries. They have families, right?
Even if you jump to 2011. Dollar to naira was $1 to #165.
CMD basic salary was #2.3 million like you mentioned annually. That's #191,666 per month as CMD salary.
#191,666 is $1,161 per month. It was way lower in 2007, remember? But $1,161 per month as salary for a CMD.
Which is $13, 939 per annum 2011. (Again in 2006 -2007, it was way less).
So, from $13,939 he could pay all his bills and train his children aboard?
If you add allowances, the total accrued allows for a CMD in 2011 is stated in the PDF?
So how could he have afforded such?
How much as tuition, travel, upkeep, visa and the likes for his kids, in say UK/US? From his $13,939 annual salary? After deductions for upkeep and sundry bills?
LOL. We know the truth, man.
Citing the document then, I had taken time to go through the who PDF. Even looking at it on PC now so I can zoom in. That 2.3M was the base salary, allowances would probably be like 50% of basic, so that salary was more around 3.4M, and this comes up to 23K USD. Of course most of these doctors don't just do their government work and keep it at that, they usually have private practice which would pay them as much if not more than what the government was paying them...this will bring that yearly income to 46K. With some sacrifice, he'd pay that 30K and live off the remaining 16K. Your point was the only way the CMD could afford to send children abroad was via corruption, I've shown that might not necessarily be the case. If we take back to 2006, exchange rate was lower, and school fees abroad would have been a bit less too...that formula would have worked even then. I know schools in the US that even as at 2013/2014, their semester fees were less than $2,500 (Jackson State University and MVSU). If you comb through Ukraine, a popular stomping ground for parents sending their kids abroad then, you'd find less sef. |

Doctors were never paid as much as they deserved, even then - not as much as the public assumed they earned.
The CMDs who were training multiple children in the West knew what they were up to. I think you should be checking from page 143, cause it seems the document first reviewed previous salary structures, and it led up to what the new salary structure was to be. A university graduate from a medical degree would start at say level 7, and if you check, yearly salary for them was around 900K plus...by the time you add their many allowances, e go dey reach that number I talk. It was pretty normal then for medical professionals to return from housmanship and buy a car with their years work, and this was when you could get Honda Civic for around 800-900K. And according to the document you posted, a CMD which I guess would be at least grade level 13 was earning basic at least 2.7M and up to 5.1M...and this was around 2011. |

Their defence was, "I know a man who trained all his children abroad in the same position or similar, and there's no way that's his salary."
Remember what brought about the argument ? Me stating #15 million is a luxury for people that high. That any of them driving a car worth that amount is certainly not being open with the full details.
Even in State Civil Service Commissions, there are workers whose full salaries are #300,000 driving cars of #10 million.
A Police Inspector's salary just got raised to #250,000 last year, but you have Police Inspectors driving #12 million cars.
Before the Faruk case, if Disstrøy had pointed it out, even with salary sheet upload, he'd been be dismissed as "just capping".
Most public officer holders are crooks. Where do you think all the kickbacks from hospital equipments and upgrades go?
It's the same conversation I was making. I quoted my comment from May so anyone can track how that went - it was only me reiterating these points while they rest were upvoting takes based on "I know a guy who".
Facts are facts, even when most people don't momentarily agree. It's why I like to post links to credible sources when debating these things. Today it might be difficult for most CMDs to do that, but around those 2006 Dem, which was one of the examples given, it was common to see fresh medical grads doing housmanship getting like 150K per month, and this came to around $1,000. I'm sure your CMD from that era would have been taking like 500K per month (plus allowances) that's around $3,000, his two months salary would comfortably pay for a semesters tuition, plus small upkeep money for a child in the UK, or other European countries. So that people could take their kids abroad less than two decades ago isn't automatically sign that they were corrupt or stealing from the government...these things were a lot easier to manage then. |
