airmark: You kept on twisting my words. Where did I type that Obi candidacy is Igbo agenda?
Many Obidients from the Eastern part campaigned and supported Obi because he is Igbo. That is a fact you can only battle but can't upturn. No sensible person would wish Nigeria well and campaign for a Governor that failed woefully as Governor, to become the President of a sinking country.
You are using emotion to muddle up the water bro. My post was about Obidients and not Igbo as a tribe. |

raumdeuter: They have always voted in bloc for PDP, And suddenly shifted to LP and Obi. I will think the tribal sentiments in Obi played a major part to shift the votes
The SW have a history of voting APC since 2015 and kept that same energy but a new LP, Many people in SE probably never heard of LP before Obi and gave the party 90% votes
Smells fishy dont you think No I don't, many states in the SS didn't vote PDP like they used to and if not for intense rigging in Rivers and Akwa-Ibom SS results would have been relatively more shocking than what happened in the SE (and I'm not speaking purely numbers). Think of it like a deep red state flipping blue vs a state that's historically voted blue 75% now doing blue 90%. |

raumdeuter: There will always be those who will vote for a candidate because he is from their ethnic group. Nothing wrong with that but when it starts looking suspicious is when a candidate is returning 90% from his region
That starts to look somehow Well if that region has always voted in bloc, maybe tribal sentiments would be the jara 15%. Or it could be less than 15% when you factor other things. |

raumdeuter: Yes but the main one was the ethnicity of Obi as a candidate why he can post such Ghadafi number, The type of numbers he couldnt even get as Anambra governor both times he contested That's an opinion, maybe one that says more about the reasons you support your candidate. Peter Obi is not the first Igbo man to have contested for the presidency, Ojukwu did and he didn't poll these sort of numbers, in fact there are non-Igbo's that in other elections performed better than Ojukwu did in the South East. |

raumdeuter: We have seen Tinubu barely winning in his home region while Obi swept his own region in Ghadaffi like manner, that is evidence to support which candidate had more support based on his tribe and ethnicity That is not evidence, there are people that insist that the only reason anyone from the South West would vote for Tinubu was because of his ethnicity...there are even videos of people making such statements, so too there are Northerners saying their reason for voting Tinubu was to return the favor the South West did to them supporting Buhari for 8 years. Despite all of these evidences, it'd be lazy to say Tinubu only got votes from those regions because of those sentiments. The only thing we know for certain are the results of the votes, the reasons for those results I imagine would be a multifactoral...in all the tweets you've been sharing I've not seen any where the persons are saying the reason for their change of mind about Peter Obi was because he was a fellow Igbo man. |

raumdeuter: So have you chose to put your feelings over the fact that more Yorubas oppose Tinubu than Ibos who oppose Obi? No, I haven't, the results showed this, that's the fact...where we differ is in what motivates the opposition, and what the reasons could be. You insist it's simply tribal sentiments, and I say the reasons are multifaceted. |

raumdeuter: He was not running against Tinubu alone he was running against Atiku as well
Obi was known among those who lived in Anambra during his tenure as a very mediocre governor, yet in 2023, he became the person with the highest percentage of votes
All those from his region who chastised him suddenly canonized him, Many have started deleting their tweets and posts
example is the image below, a poster who pointed to Obi "meager list of accomplishments" but has not deleted it
Or how does a blank post get 55 likes? This thing you've described for this poster with 55 likes doesn't only apply to Peter Obi, there are people that support Tinubu that have done same too. Why should one group have the freedom to do a 180 on their positions as regards a particular candidate, and another group be denied that freedom? Or have their decision to do that tied only to tribal affiliation? |

Even if we're to say his Igbo brothers want him as president, Peter Obi was only governor of one of the five SE states...how did people in Anambra speaking about his governance suddenly become most Igbo's? It's obvious you harboured deep-seated tribal sentiments in the post you made, no need jumping around the place trying to renovate "most" to what it's not. |

Especially Obi that was very mediocre in governance as governor where his people cursed regularly I've seen lot of praises for Peter Obi's time as governor, I believe that's a reason for the votes he gets, plus SE tends to do bloc voting, and the person he was running against was Tinubu (a man past his physiological sell date with a shady past in the drug game and a notorious history of corruption). |

You can't equate a student that changed his mind about Tinubu after receiving loans from his Government or someone that almost lost his life on the Enugu - Onitsha road, now seeing the same road getting strong attention from the Govt unlike before, to those who highlighted how Anambra didn't have pipe-borne water and neglect of General hospitals during Obi's 8 years, now calling him the Messiah for Nigeria. Even here my man Okpa asked about what Obi did in Anambra to be elated about.
Baba, let it slide. What did this one see that made him change his mind about Tinubu? Today he's doing media round to sing the gospel of Tinubu

Atiku didnt, Tinubu didnt, Kwankwanso didnt. Obi did. Obi did percentages he never did when contesting for governor sef Every election isn't the same, or are you saying if all three candidates ran again in 2027 the electoral map for 2023 will repeat itself exactly? |

raumdeuter: This is not the first time SW or North will split their votes but This is the first time the SE is not unanimously voting for PDP since 1999. Any guess on why that happened? And that's because it was the first time since 1999 that we had three competitive parties vying for the presidency...Ojukwu contested prior and he didn't sweep the SE unanimously. We have several states in the SS, SE and Middle Belt that had never in the past voted a party outside of the two major opposition parties but in 2023 they did. Everything doesn't have to be simply tribal, and this isn't me saying there are no tribal sentiments that influence voting decisions (it does and it happened across board). |

Ibime: Spell Obi backwards, it's Ibo, the two cannot be separated
Anambrans who cursed Obis tenure as Governor renovating him at National level 10 years later can only be for ethnic reasons
That's like me renovating Odili or Wike, infact some hammerings Jonathan did in Bayelsa including a massive fraud on Imiringi gas turbines is what made me not stand behind him at National level. Supporting a candidate does not necessarily mean you're renovating his period of governance, it might be that in the present context he's the best alternative. I'm on this board cursing Tinubu morning and evening, but if you put a Tinubu beside say a Buhari (your man) or an Okphebolo, I'd wax lyrical for Tinubu...does that mean all my previous opinions about him are invalid, no...it just means in the present context, he's the better option. There are Lagosians that swear by Sanwoolu and the APC, so too are there Lagosians that can never see anything good in what Sanwoolu and the APC has to offer. I sincerely don't know anywhere in this world where you'd have a candidate in position that you won't see contrasting opinions about his time...it's the nature of democracy and opposition politics. |

BlueRayDick: There are rumors that PDP is planning to field Jonathan as their candidate to come and complete his two terms. They are hoping to sell him to northerners who know there's no legal way he can stay beyond 4 years. I think that was what Jerry Gana was hinting at when he suggested they even have candidate that will best Peter Obi .
My opinion is if Jonathan lose guard and buys into the proposal, he will only help Tinubu secure second term easily. Not only that, he will open himself to serious nasty media attacks from the agbado camp so much that the little prestige he got from conceding the result of 2015 elections; he will lose everything in a twinkle of an eye. Lol, Agbado camp no go pity am at all, na then dem no reopen e Boko Haram articles of incorporation I believe it's all rumours sha, Patience Jonathan has endorsed BAT for second term, and Jonathan seems sympathetic to BAT. |

BlueRayDick: In fact , I have a theory that if legislators are restricted to carrying out their primary duty of making laws and overseeing the activities of the executive ; we would see a drastic reduction in the number of individuals jostling to be elected as lawmakers .
Most governors who leave the government house at the expiration of their second term to contest for senate would no longer find the seat attractive . We would then have people who are genuinely interested in lawmaking vying for the seat . The practice of even bank MDs resigning to contest for senate ticket because of the humongous constituency allowance that will be at their disposal to misappropriate would no longer be a thing . You're right. What we practice as democracy is very far from what it's supposed to be, too many avenues for rent-seeking has been created to keep every facet lucrative and it has ended up creating bottlenecks to actual governance. |

raumdeuter: A good chairman project doesnt still stop the legislators constituency projects
E.g Say instead of putting 500m in the hand of LG chairman, 300m goes to LG 100m for HoR and 100M to Senator for the same area
The risk with the former is a useless LG chairman leaves the people with nothing while in the 2n scenario they can hope at least one of the 3 will be useful Legislators doing constituency projects make no sense...the only reason that thing has been allowed is make money dey touch everybody hand, and not because of any fail-safe to guarantee projects get done. Look at it this way, each cadre of government has what they consider their fair share of stealing, that 500M split three ways means there are a lot more persons putting hand into what's limited money, meaning even less gets to the people. But beyond the nonsense of fair share of stealing, legislative duties are purely lawmaking, anybody that's interested in doing LGA-level projects should go and contest for LGA Chairmanship. |
