There is a reason why soldiers are on tik tok lamenting about the non-important 100k dished out to people performing their duty too..

I bet they are being told to endure cos d country is broke or soldiers ain't supposed to live a normal life..

If their triumph is worth 100k then special duty well executed by the gallant soldiers is worth 2 k atleast..

Anybody with the idea that d country is poor is a fat pig
They can negotiate for better renumerations like they've always done, but the thing is there's a formula that guides salaries for employees in the government employ. If they're getting special renumerations for war-time gallantary, best believe health workers would negotiate same to account for situations like the 2020 COVID situation.

Ultimately, a soldier is doing a job, it's what they saw to put food on the table that they're doing...it's hardly ever a labour of love or charity, especially in Nigeria.

This is funny

While the average government employee is closing and going home by 5pm, these guys are stationed in the middle of nowhere till dawn

It's currently raining heavily as I type. Soldiers are at mounted checkpoints on highways and forests...Right under this heavy rain.

My brother, I don't see how we can compare the responsibilities of a soldier, to that of a SUBEB staff, probably peeling her egusi on Friday in the office
That's what their hazard allowance is for, if they wanted to peel egusi like the SUBEB worker they should have been patient and got the SUBEB gig.

Military officers should get their due, relative to the rest of the country's government employees it can be argued they do get their due, but everyone is in the ghetto as regards renumeration hence they too are.

Let assume Anini is still alive and even more dangerous.

A troop consisting of few soldiers that risked their life to over power him being rewarded with a thank you isn’t out of place

These athletes are being paid n enjoy other benefits too..

If we are too bouyant to cough out 100k each,then 2k fit some special but extreme case isn’t a bad idea my bro.;

Note….,the thank you bucks isn’t for every successful triumph
Nigeria is an anyhow country sha, and Tinubu has continued the culture of anyhowness, that's the only reason this conversation is coming up, cause on a norms it shouldn't be a conversation. These army guys are paid to do the job they do, and the expectation is they do it to the best of their ability, and not slack because they're not getting bonuses like falcons.

The Three Lionesses, they didn't get the bonuses that came their way by fiat like Tinubu is doing, it was pre-tournament negotiation that made them entitled to the monies they got...same should have applied to the Falcons.

It's understandable why athletes get performance bonuses repping their country given they're not on monthly salaries, it just has to be structured and sustainable, not that because president likes football they're the ones that get bonuses while others that win laurels in other sports are left to rot.

This is not about beef nor competition about whatsoever

This 100k per athlete isn’t among their wage nor a promise but an encouragement and a thank you for a job well done.

Same can be done for the men responsible for one n a greater Nigeria, sacrificing their sleep and more importantly their lives.

A thank you of maybe 2k for some special job (killing of dare devils) to the troop responsible will be very much a welcome idea….this is aside whatever they get from their ogas as remunerations
These guys have harzard allowances and whatnot baked into their salaries, benefits that the average government employee doesn't enjoy.

If we want to start rewarding everybody that goes above a certain level doing their job, e no go end. The falcons are not on a monthly salary scheme, so it makes sense they get bonuses of this nature, though I think the largesse shown them was in excess and shouldn't be normalized, certainly not with the level of rot that exists in sports in the country, but it's what it is, if the girls didn't get the money it'd have been looted.

The Three Lionesses that won Euro's 2025 got 1.75 Million Pounds, pre tax...a country like Nigeria shouldn't be spending over 2.5 Million USD to reward athletes.

I actually want to believe many of those estates are individuals trying to be sharp and defraud people

You will hear things like its better to buy now that it doesnt have governors consent, once governors consent comes out the price with triple

Land with govt papers are usually sold for a premium, even if you go to the property section of Nairaland you see the arguments regularly, Those with gov consent advertize with it as an added value and some will tell you that you can buy for a lower price and "arrange gov consent"

https://www.nairaland.com/5423359/obtaining-governors-consent-land-mandatory

There are many people enjoying their property without this gov consent, but if na your side them open eye for, then goodluck

Land sale is where you meet some of the most dubious people in Nigeria
That link you posted, you'd see where they said that the process of getting a government consent can take up to 6 months to one year...most of these lands are community owned and without government consent, so now imagine buying a property and waiting that long before you can begin development on it.

Sure you'd say it's better to wait than be sorry, but in reality we know it hardly ever works like that, sometimes you just want to begin development as money dey hand, other times the community will be breathing down your neck to develop or they'd reallocate your land and sometimes development post purchase is something that's done to protect against land-grabbing.

There are just many things that makes real estate investment in Nigeria feel like you're dealing in the wild west, and the bulk of the work that has to be done to ensure it's a seamless and safe investment class is the governments. In fact their involvement is one of the major reasons that it's risky sef, and that you can't just lay the blames at the feet of the investors solely.

Peter Obi made his one-term declaration less than 9 hours ago.

He's ticked so many boxes like relative prudent management of our common patrimony.

It's been 7 years since 2025 when he came to national politics. An EFCC case still hasn't been brought against him.

No, he's not a saint. I wouldn't vote a saint because no human is without blemish.

But Peter Obi is humane - he's kind, he's thoughtful like Osinbajo and has provenly believed in enthroning human rights like Fayemi.

You might not like the movement which his candidacy banks on. I've stated my reservation about the movement.

Pen it down to passion. Passion of young Nigerians yearning to see Nigeria get better.

Maybe their utterances hurt you. But the man himself hasn't hurt you. He hasn't hurt your pockets too or sided with those who cage you and yours.

2027 is less than two years from now.

If you love Nigeria or at least love your relatives in Nigeria; if the plight of Nigerians holds more significance for banter; if Nigeria goes beyond agenda on Nairaland...

Please vote Obi. And if you won't, please do not spread falsehood against him. There are no medals for being an impediment against progress.

May a better Nigeria become POssible.
Well said.

Whether you like it or not, there has been immense value creation in Lagos relative to Nigeria as a whole. That's why you are in Lagos and anyone who invested in property in Lagos never regretted it

Tinubu grows with Lagos. Anambra dies as Obi grows. Proportional Vs Inverse relationship
Anyonehuh What of those that flood has rendered their properties seasonally habitable, or those that have had their properties demolished because of inconsistencies in land administation?

Well let's take it for what it is sha, at what point in history was land investment in Lagos generally seen as a bad decision? And at what point has Lagos not been seen as the place to be, or wasn't accomodating a significant portion of Nigeria's population?

Batists are the ones that have insisted on canonizing Peter Obi, and the only reason they do that is to further their argument of all politicians being the same, therefore the worst of the lot (Tinubu) should be allowed to persist.

Yes the bigger the pie, the more you get from your percentage.

It is incentivised and accountable, unlike Obi system where we don't know what he, Obiano and Soludo plus any future Governor is stealing

Tinubu stealing comes with value creation, Obi stealing comes with value destruction. If Lagos IGR is zero, Tinubu will get 15% of zero so incentive is there to grow it enormously which it has been doing.
What is this value creation you speak of?

IGR growth in Nigeria as often always driven by more stringent taxation, hardly ever is it followed by value creation or an improved quality of life. How many persons can point to aspects of their lives that have improved side-by-side the humongous IGR growth?

So I should be celebrating that Tinubu is making the pie that him and his cronies can steal from bigger, yet relatively little trickles down to the average Lagosian as regards public infrastructure and quality of life. In fact a lot of the heavy lifting as regards capital projects still depend heavily on FG and private sector intervention, and the little they manage to do would make a case study for sabotage through capital allocation grin

Humoungous IGR yet when we start looking at critical HDI indices per head you'd see Lagos dragging yansh with states that don't generate even 1/8th of what the state generates.

It's more than obvious that you've been sucked into the Bola Tinubu propaganda machine and this is why you're always quick to re-echo their well worn talking points, and it's the same reason you supported a candidate who's first stint as president resulted in bread queues, and his second stint multiple recessions. You talk about being a numbers man, but hardly are you ever tracking the numbers that ultimately matter.

Tinubu has carried his IGR generation madness to the federal level that doesn't enjoy the very unique advantages that a Lagos enjoys and the results are clear for all to see...suffering at a scale never before seen.

Agenda na orphan grin

It'd also susprise you to know that between 2008 and 2016, which sort of coincided with the period in which Peter Obi was governor of Anambra, Lagos' IGR grew by approximately 100%, while according to the image Ibime attached Peter Obi grew Anambra's IGR by approximately 130%.

I actually find some of his takes interesting, and insightful, that's why I followed him. But I’ve noticed something with public figures, they often post things just to appeal to their followers, to create the illusion of “relating with the people.” Because I'm sure, deep down, they know they’re wrong before hitting send.

One group that never fails to amuse me is those who expect the government to regulate prices for private companies businesses that aren’t government-owned or subsidized. Why should the government fix prices for them? Do they think running a business is child’s play?

At some point, people need to reset their priorities. If something is becoming too expensive for you, you either step up your game or cut it off entirely. It’s really that simple.
Yea, and it's something we tend to expect a little too much in Nigeria.
