Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Skills Now Taking Over Degrees by thelegend1(m): 2:58am On Jan 07
This is quite an interesting topic that is a 2 edged sword in Nigeria.
Personally, even though I have a Masters degree, I would lean toward Skills acquisition.

Here's why

1. Take IT for instance. Once you're a good coder/developer/IT security expert...nobody cares if it is school cert you have.
2. In my core industry, those business entrepreneurs with a knack for sales are really cashing out. (Farmers, Carpenters, Glass or window makers, Iron wroughtsman, Plumbers, Food and Building material suppliers.
3. Skills bring business to your doorstep, whilst you have to carry your degree to another man's doorstep for employment.

Most of Nigerian degrees are only used as soft skills in the office (if you doubt me, name 10 companies that their business is based on Calculus rather than Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

The world is moving at a fast pace with technology and most degrees would be outdated; a simple app does my accounting nowadays as against a full time accountant (Remember when getting ICAN certification was the holy grail 10 years ago).

Finally, check the ratio of Skill based and Degree based jobs our Japa-citizens are getting abroad. I dare say skill based is at 65%.
Get a degree, but it is a must that you have a Skill.

Skipping is an understatement. Got tired after i did the first 60 pages; and filtered only posts by certain accounts.

Decided to use the holiday downtime for some light reading and re-visited this Thread from page 1.

This is an exciting, eye opening expose of a thread.

The key parts and meaningful contributions (albeit discussions) could be compressed to 30 or 50 pages at most.

But alas, derailed by certain individuals that feel they must argue ignorantly and stubbornly for Hundreds of pages to make their opinions known.

The biggest loosers are the ipob who want war in Rivers State to spite Tinubu and Wike's image. The biggest loosers are the Obedients who are always on the loosing side. The biggest loosers are those who for once never liked Fubara but want him to do their bidding of war in the state

You're the biggest "loser" for lack of common sense and poor grasp of English language that you can't differentiate "Loser" from "Looser".

Is your problem in life Igbos and Obidients? You just wake up and type nonsense without any fact or effort to make an intelligent discussion.

I'm sure when Ambode had issues with Tinubu you also blamed Igbos for it.

Yet not that it is free, you pay heavily one can be kidnapped, raped or whatever

Useless searching for better life

I hear you, but have a little emphaty as lives have been lost due to bad government in their home countries.

People have different mental fortitude to cope with challenges. At some point in our lives, we have all made a bad decision due to overwhelming desperation.

Read to understand. 4hrs is your daily allotment on student visa per working day.

You obviously haven't been to UK legally.

You work 20 hours a week with student visa not 4 hours.

Pls read my post again carefully without prejudice.

I said 4 hours and never said it was weekly.

Common deductive reasoning will let you know that 4hrs x 5 working days = 20 hours weekly!

For the rest turning this into a tribalistic, envious and anti-japa thread based on sentiments, pls read to understand rather than to respond prematurely.

It's not that hard.

You can work 20 hrs/ week on a student visa.
-The Rwanda crap is going nowhere
- The universities have always had the right to stop teaching you if you default on fees.

You sound envious, is everything right at home

Hi
- I said 4hrs (I never specified it was weekly). If you multiply it by 5 working days, doesn't that give you 20hrs weekly?
- I assume you work in UK parliament. Kindly post evidence of your claim that the Rwanda asylum won't work
- We've known the universities reserve the right to stop tutoring and report defaulting students. It is not peculiar to the UK alone. The point being made is the recent increase in late payments due to the CBN Forex calamity going on.

Finally, before you say I'm envious, where is the lie in my response?
You just read my post without an inkling of understanding and responded with a myopic predetermined mindset.
Politics / Shege Pro Max Reaches Nigerians In UK by thelegend1(m): 12:46am On Dec 10, 2023
As the economy continues to bite harder without any clear plan by the current administration to offer "renewed hope", the effects has now reached Nigerians in the diaspora.

- Earlier this month, UK reached a deal to repatriate asylum seekers back to Rwanda.
- Canada put embargo on Post graduate studies and increased proof of funds to $20,000 (over N20m)
- Now UK is gearing up to repatriate Nigerian students due to late payment of fees.

Mind you, in UK you can only work about 4 hours on student visa. So some people are still dependent on forex inflow from 9ja.
And this current govt is creating an artificial scarcity and backlog in forex payments...which is inevitably leading to companies winding down operations.

This is very true.

Pundits must have staked Man Utd over 0.5 and Arsenal over 1.5 but see how it turned out...both of them didn't score a goal.
Even when they average 1.5 goals this season.

BET ONLY WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOSE.

I know economy is tough and bleak right now, but be wary of your mite.

APC has unashamedly become a calamity to Nigeria.
Since Buhari tenure, companies have been packing up and leaving the country; talkless of local SMEs.

I remember during Obasanjo & Jonathan regimes, companies and past USA Presidents were flooding into the country.

Nigerian corporate office values is nothing to be proud about or carry as achievement.
Many have died of stroke, heart attack and stress on their desks.
Many have back-bited and stabbed potential friends in the back due to office politics.

In the end, you'll leave that job and realize that the so-called office family is a FUGAZY.

Build your own thing...even if na kiosk. That job isn't forever.
