The reason why poeple hate hitler is because he was defeated, if he had won ww2 we will all be celebrating him just like we are celebrating the Americans as if they are free of blemishes.

Success is sweet nobody likes failure. Hitler has alot good qualities.
If Hitler won, there would have been mass extermination not only of Jews, but of white Eastern Europeans

And Africa would have become a large plantation.

The Nazis viewed Africans as 'subhuman', to the point that in 1938 they sterilized allmost all half black children in Germany.

Good thing Hitler lost. Inasmuch as the allied powers UK and US were racist, Nazi Germany was far far worse.

but we are borrowing to build rail networks across board?
Yes, we borrow because our breakeven price for oil is $140, while the actual oil price is $60

The breakeven price is the price of oil at which we earn enough to have a balanced budget.

IT is the price of being an oil dependent economy!

the argument of making comparison of both the oil and telecom sector does not add up.

Nothing special about the telecom sector no gains made so far. It's common economics and has nothing to do special policies. Nigeria runs a market economy and it's normal to allow private investors establish businesses and make profit in the longrun. You don't gain whr u don't sow. Govt gave licenses to telecom investors like MTN and Co. Fact is that telecommunications or ICT is a magnetic wave that was going round the world. You av no option that to accept them coming in and maximazing national profit. Why dint the govt give MTN and Co capital b4 dey invested in Nigeria? They invested first and later profit came in.

This marketers don't want to invest but want the govt to increase the price so they can maximize profit at the detriment of the masses. They are only out to estort Nigerians in the guise that we don't have functional refineries. What does it really cost to build a modular refinery? Private investors in Nigeria can do dat, they just don't want to do it cos it will deny them the excess money they make through importation and subsidy.
1. The telecom investors had funds to invest BECAUSE they were allowed to make profits first. (and as an added bonus, the banks lent to them freely because the telecom investors sources of funding..customers...were steady...you cannot use a phone unless you recharge)

2.Petroleum marketers cannot invest in the down stream because subsidy prevents them from making a profit. Subsiy forces them to sell below the import and manufacturing cost of fuel...meaning they are running at a loss all the time. THAT is why we don't have new refienreis. Who wants to produce fuel in his refienry at 160 naira per liter...and sell it at N145 , LOSING N25 per liter at least? Would you do that?

3.You want a market economy for telecom, and at the same time you want a socialist economy for petroleum marketers...abeg, don't be self contradictory.

Where was God when it was collapsing?

God will console her
Dude...when a child is well brought up, and chooses to misbehave, we dont blame his parents, we blame the child.

God has specifically, in the bible , siad we should not sin. Yet, people every day in Nigeria sin.

The building that collapsed was built in violation of every law in this country...sin

People who were supposed to enforce the law did not do their job...sin(Someone even said that the enforcers can be bribed ...sin)

Finally, even if enforcement did their job...Nigerians will complain about how government is trying to bring down a honest man...sin

If God stepped in to save the children, it would be great, but it would be like God is excusing sin, and it would be like God does not want us to learn the bad effects of sin since he has decided to shield people from their sins.

So God allows this to happen so that people dont sin by obeying laid down rules and regulations, and as an added bonus, using their brains to make better building materials.

So stop blaming God.

Well, we can put police guards everywhere...but the people too have a role to play in crime prevention.

If communities get together and help the police in identifying thugs, etc...and if we have a well funded police that can have a database of said thugs...we can prevent crimes before they happen.

And let's be honest. INEC is not perfect...but compared to 2003 and 2007, they have improved. Now, they are, to some extent cancelling elections marred by violence.

The thing is, even if the elections are perfect...there will be complaints. Nigerians think the election is perfect IF THEIR PARTY wins.

what is subsidy and why is there subsidy in the first place? What are we really subsidising?

I'm perturbed that learned Nigerians still buy this nonsense talk called subsidy. A govt that can borrow to build railways cannot borrow to build refineries? What is the limiting factor? Why can't they borrow and build refineries? If a refinery is let's say $5bn dollars, why can't the govt borrow or even take from our external reserve and build one refinery? After building, sell to a genuine private enterprise that can run and and maintain it effectively. Why this argument of always removing subsidy to build one. Even if their scam subsidy is removed and the price of fuel sold for #500, no refinery wil be built. They prefer taking our crude out and bringing back petrol to make more pecuniary gains.

It's nonsensical for a country that has a comparative and absolute advantage in a God given commodity to sell same commodity at an int'l market price to its citizens. Goods manufactured in America cannot be sold same price to you here. Variations in transport cost and taxes must have been added to it. Saying the price of fuel in Nigeria should be in tandem with global price is rubbish. Let dem build new refineries.
1.Government guaranteed the loans to build Dangote refinery, remember.?

2.We can't borrow to build new refienries. We've already borrowed so much due to oil falling below our breakeven of $140 per barrel.

3.If we borrow to build refineries, we have to still maintain them. Of course we cannot keep on borrowing...

4.Anyway...see my response to your other quote of my comment.

We don't have the money to pay for subsidies, and we already spend 70% of our budget on debt servicing. , and oil is still too low. Borrowing to build 4 new refineries would make matters worse.

how you believe this capitalist hogwash still amuse me. Capitalism will always tell you dat deregulation will reduce price of commodities in the longrun, but it's all false.
Well, it is true...

EG...GSM

2003: mtn sim cost : N10000

TODAY : mtn sim cost : N1000 or less.

All because Obasanjo allowed MTN and them charge whatever price they wanted. And back then service was awful (It used to be diffiuclt to call Airtel line with MTN and vice versa...Airtel was known as Econet back then)

As a result , MTN, ECONET (NOW airtel), and GLO and later 9mobile...made huge profits, and invested it in new equipment to make prices come down...which attracted more investors, and as a result prices dropped (and we went from the Internet being available only in cafes in 2001 to being available at home today)

The reason why susbdiy must go is that it is preventing petroleum marketers from making a profit...which can be invested in things like refineries, infrastructure like pipelines, gas processing, etc.

Have you bothered to ask yourself why the govt that borrows to build roads, pay salaries will neva borrow to build refineries? What is the actual cost of a refinery and why can't they borrow to build and thereafter sell it off since the govt can't manage public utilities?
A new refinery costs $10billion...and that's intial budget...costs rise as time goes on.

Plus...Dangote refinery is mostly funded by loans...which were guaranteed by the past and present government.

A system where the elite only care about milking the system dry and providing nothing in return will neva develop. Even if subsidy is removed and the price is raised to #500 nothing meaningful will come out of it. Same thing we said about privatising and unbundling NEPA, what is our gain today? Any progress?
Intially when fuel subsidy is removed...the prices will go up, but then, like GSM, more investment will come in, more refienries would be built...but with private money..and prices would come down...and crucially, we would stop importing.

Plus new exploration for oil would be funded with private money (No more $400million government money on oil search up North).

As for power, when the DISCOS were set up, they were not allowed to set prices by the enabling law. (Electricity bill prcies are set by the government body NERC, not the DISCOS)

That means they are constantly running at a loss (and that is complicated by the debts both the government and the people owe them) meaning no money for improvements...meaning continued darkness.

As explained below..

The price of gas is a pass-through cost from the gas suppliers to the generators who in turn pass the cost to the distribution companies on a monthly basis. The distribution companies are, however, unable to pass this cost to end users for two reasons. The first being that due to the low state of generation, customers are not willing to pay higher tariffs which should ideally reflect any increase in gas prices. Secondly, whilst the generators by virtue of their respective Power Purchase Agreements with NBET, pass through gas costs on a monthly basis following purchase, the tariffs for distribution companies regulated by the National Electricity Regulatory Commission and as such cannot automatically pass on this cost to consumers. This creates a huge shortfall for the distribution companies which accrue interest and a resultant inability to meet their payment obligations to other stakeholders in the power value chain. The second factor affecting gas availability for power generation is the recurrent vandalisation of the gas pipelines. Any shortfall in the supply of gas will affect the amount of power that can be produced which will in turn affect the stability of the grid and may occasion grid collapses

This election was bad...but then again, so were most of all the others, even the 2015 election that people are now saying was good.

And the simple reason is Nigerians.

Nigerians are ready to take bribe, ready to be paid to snatch ballot boxes, and ready to fight over poltical parties.

How about our National Assembly? They refused to approve electronic voting...twice.

The thing is, this election, for what is worth, there was no glossing over violence. But there is so much INEC can do. INEC did well...but so long as a group of armed people come with weapons, so long as people collect bribes...there is nothing anyone can do.

2.OK...YOU want to play in the NBA. Well...first off, you have to get into an NCAA Division 1 college....where the NBA drafts most of its members from. And the problem is, many of the guys who get into Div 1 colleges to play sport...already have a good rep from their American high schools.

3.Your chances of getting on the NBA draft are not that great...even IF you get into a Div 1 college to play basketball. Maybe one in twenty.

4.Plus...you might not get drafted. Remember...you are competing against the best of the best.

5.To be honest...if you wanted to play in the NBA

....GET INTO an American high school. Do very well...like win a regional or state tournament

....Be sure to have videos of how well you are doing.

....Make sure you get into a NCAA Div 1 college.

...Getting there means doing very very well on your SAT.

...dID i mention that getting into an American college means that you have, in addition to a high SAT, a good SSCE plus extracurricular activities (if you spent one month feeding poor kids...type of stuff)

...Make sure...once you are on your Div 1 NCAA team, that you are conssitently in the first team...which is going to take some time

...Even then...you have a long fight to get into the NBA.

Stay with law....and play basketball as a hobby abeg.

(I am not a expert...just reading, plus years of knowing people who went to American colleges from here).

Infact....midway through my medical studies, I had a chance to go to the USA....and I turned it down because it would have meant starting college again , plus struggling to get into medical school.

We cannot build refineries for the simple reason that subsides prevent anyone involved in the oil industry from making a sufficient profit to invest in refineries.

I backed subsidy removal as far back as 2012.

The reason why Nigerians ARE opposed to fuel subsidy removal is the price increase.

I have explained subsidy removal plus its benefits elsewhere on this site. And every time, people tell me that it would only make Nigerians suffer more. Even when you point out how GSM was deregulated from the start...to the point that a SIM used to cost N10000, and that increased investments as a result led the price of sim to fall to N2000 and less....they will still tell you they will suffer.

Right now, if Buhari removes subsidy, all the names and insults GEJ got would be small, compared to what he would get. GEJ even tried...partial removal of subsidy...but Nigerians went on protest.

I can confidently tell you that while I was a PDP opponent in 2012...I was no subsidy removal opponent.

It was a sensible thing then...and it was a sensible thing now.

But we don't have to wait till oil reaches $100.

GSM was introduced into this country at a time when most Nigerians could not afford it. People paid high prices , but the money was invested in better equipment and prices came down

As for why many Nigerians protested...the reason is simple. People in 2012 only saw that price of fuel goes up from N65 to N140. Not any long term benefits.

BUT...

1. Removing subsidy means that the price of fuel may vary across the country due to something called transport costs. (transporting fuel from port or refinery to another part of the country).

1.So long as government sets prices....there is a subsidy

2.By 2016, oil was at $30 per barrel and dropping. Meanwhile, import cost of one liter of fuel was at N132. And we were selling it at N87...plus thanks to Nigerians and APC forcing GEJ's hand in 2012...we had left over debts in subsidy claims.

Buhari, on advice from Emefiele and Kalichukwu, removed subsidy by raising the price to N145...

3.That is how things stood until in 2017 when import cost went up to N150 PER LITER....forcing the reintroduction of subsidy, as well as in the meantime government making NNPC the importer of fuel for the whole country.

4.If you want to blame Bubu, blame him and the APC and most of your countrymen for preventing GEJ from increasing fuel from N65 to N140 IN 2012...WHICH would have prevented many problems, and made things better.till at least 2018.

Here are the reasons why

1.The number of vehicular traffic has increased

2.Power supply has gotten worse...due to a host of factors (main one being that the laws governing DISCO setting up prevent them from raising prices of power which leaves them chronically underfunded...and which means no funds for power improvement)

3.Due to decades of subsidy, there has been no investment in things like pipelines, refineries, etc...because SUBSIDY forces oil companies to sell at a loss

4.Oil prices crashed in 2014...making it difficult to fund subsidy.Infact, this is the main reason why

Hmmm

The truth of the matter is that if Buhari wants to create jobs, and improve the economy, he has to remove subsidy completely.

Yes, we will pay N300 for fuel, and we would have to walk to work most of the time.

Yes, lots of people will suffer, and yes, transporters will increase prices, food prices will go up.

BUT

1.There would be increased investment in things like refineries, gas processing , PIPELINES....which means more JOBS.

2.There will be an end to SUBSIDY SCAMS permanently.

3.EVENTUALLY....PRICES WILL COME CRASHING DOWN

4.More importantly....GOVERNMENT SAVES MORE MONEY

5.And Nigeria keeps on prospering.

We cannot afford subsidy anymore. I'm sorry, but with oil at $60 when we need it at $140 per barrel....it is sensible we remove subsidy.
