sharpsecret: sharpsecret: ![]() Here is something about statistical surveys 1.The sample size is determined. 2.It is from the sample size that the data is gotten Since they cannot go to EVERY house in Nigeria...they took a sample size containing some of the households in Nigeria, and extrapolated the results from there. That's how surveys are done. To put it simply, say I want to do a survey of the weight of 10 YEAR OLD children in schools in Benue state. 1.I take a sample of some of the Local governments area....ie I decide i will study five out of the 25 lga 2.I take a sample of villages in each LGA...in one LGA , I will study four villages. 3.In each village I will reach 30 households. the data obtained is what I would use to say...The average weight of 10 year old children in benue is 45KG. If they went to every house in Nigeria...it would be impossible from a logistic point of view. for more info see here |
sharpsecret:They went from house to house. |
BeautifulMind2:Again you are quoting pre 2018 estimates The test the OP posted was done last year...from June 2018, and involved 220000 persons across hundreds of hosueholds. When you have a problem you don't cry, you do something about it. And speaking as a medic, what we want is HIV prevalence of 0%. That's a success for us. So even 1.3 % males us miserable. |
eyinjuege:The survey was NOT hospital based From the OP report.. The National AIDS survey was launched in June 2018 to determine the true distribution of HIV and AIDS, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C in the country.I have taken part in a survey up in a Hausa Northern village. Once you explain things clearly to the village head , religious LEADERS and the men, they will welcome you into their homes. So, they reached people in their houses. As to why it was only 220000...that's why in statistics you take samples. Reaching every house in Nigeria would have been a logistical nightmare. Plus..THERE are now roving VCT centers. |
Aboki99:Don't declare victory yet. In my opinion, low prevalence rates does not mean slacking off...education, testing and treatment must be aggressively continued. Polygamy can spread HIV....because a HIV positive husband could spread it to his wives without protection (and the wives trust their husband, so they won't think of it). |
mctfopt:The study was a survey. It was not hospital based, it was community based. It most likely was conducted door to door. Also, HIV tests are not done just in the hospitals...there are now over the last two years been roving VCT centers where you can get tested free of charge. The North is a very conservative area. Northern girls and boys are not as promiscuous as their southern counterparts...because of the overtly strict moral codes. (Not to make fun of our Northern brethren, but crime rates are lower in dictatorships because the secret police will get you) |
Ennamdee:Over the last two years, there are now roving VCT centers where one can get tested outside the hospital Also, such surveys are carried out on people living in their house...not hospital based surveys. |
destinie2019:There has been an increase in roving VCT centers over the last two years, which means that you don't have to go to a hospital to get tested. Also, treatment nowadays for HIV positive patients is started ONCE the patient tests positive, EVEN if the patient does not feel sick. The North is very very conservative. |
BeautifulMind2:1. Stop crying. Having high prevalence does not mean you are evil. My state is among the top three...and I am not crying. 2.Since 2017, there has been an increase in adherence, counselling, and aggressive treatment of positive patients. 3.The result you are posting is estimates. In 2018, there was a survey which took some months...and the results is what was posted by the op. 4.You can keep on crying...or you can tell your state governor to put pressure on the Ministry of Health and the Minsitry of Educaiton to educate, educate, EDUCATE....disasters can always be reversed. Note...the survey was carried out to update records. It is more detailed than what you are posting. The figures you are quoting up and down are from 2007-10. A lot has changed since then...and it is limited to adolescents. |
The explanation does not make sense. Anyway, if they won't serve us, boycott. |
What amuses me is the way she drops Jesus like she is a born again girl, and she is 'very religious' Back in the 1980's, the ladies who 'showed a bit of skin' didn't spend time talking about how 'God' was helping them 'rise from the ashes' and so on. A born again sister dressed very very conservatively. Born again brothers too dressed very conservatively. Sure it went overboard sometimes, and ladies and guys ended up 'downplaying their good looks' as a form of vanity (if you catch my drift' But now, today's slay queen is a spiritual giant in the church next Sunday. Apparently somewhere along the last thirty years, a lot of worldly wise ladies and gents realized that our society values superficial religiosity more than anything else. So, many of these worldly wise people who back in the 80's won't be caught in a church, ESPECIALLY a Pentecostal or Evangelical church promptly ported, realized that with a little bit of accommodation, they could get the religiosity they wanted...and voila....a new Christian was born, one leg in heaven, one leg in Sodom. I have said earlier that God is dealing with the Church in Nigeria....well, it is because, frankly speaking most Christians, even in the good old days were far more concerned with 'appearances' . And now, appearances Christianity is eating deeply into the church. We are so concerned about looking good, that God is somehow roped into the defense of a slay queen who 'went dancing around in her bathing suit' (and mind you it isn't a novelty, back in them good old days, those things happened, but the ladies then had the decency not to call God's name). Somehow, the show must go on , even when there is sin. Everyone is good. And at the end of the day, when hardship strikes, we blame any available bogeymen....not realizing that the hedge has been breached. Time for Christians to return to God. Not to dressing severely conservatively, or loosely...or to being concerned about how good we look or not...but to God. Or else, we are going to keep on facing hardship, and so also Nigeria. And the slay queen should stop claiming Christianity. Christian women don't do what she did.And she knows it. |
Two snake threads! Lala must do thanksgiving for church this week. |
dkronicle:Don't know...it was part of a group on official trip , the organisation sponsoring us paid. |
Hotel too is at fault. I stayed in a hotel in this Nigeria, and in our room, there was a safe , with a pin number set by the hotel guest...where we could keep money or valuables in there. If you are running a hotel and you cannot invest in such stuff...sorry., you have no business running a hotel |
partnerbizz3:South Africa has hand gay rights enshrined in their constitution since 1992...the year it was rewritten to replace the old apartheid era constitution. |
OkaNaUbe:Most Nigerians don't like the idea of selling off government companies, even if you explain to them the potential benefits. NNPC is a good example. Selling NNPC also means a possible end to the fuel subsidy regimen. Not something many Nigerians want...as that means price increases. Since NNPC would now be acting as a private company. Nigerians sometimes use 'poverty' as an excuse to support flawed polices. |
datola:Because something tells me that when they were in power...they were forbidden from selling NNPC. Then see the reaction when Atiku talked about selling NNPC. For all the corruption in NNPC, most Nigerians don't want it sold. Frankly, as an Atiku opponent (and APC opponent)...I think we need to sell NNPC. |
LiveByNight:Boko has also filmed threats to the army, videos of victories over the army, and even their victims. In fairness to the Army, they have cleared most of the Boko guys out of their haunts. |
LiveByNight:So all those videos Shekau has been releasing, eh? Plus, Boko accounts on social media are targets for removal , and investigation by the security agents Anther thing...Shekau and his boys are wise enough not to linger too much on social media...that makes them very very easy to track. (It took ten years for the US to get Osama bin laden because the guy completely went off grid. |
post=76765136:Seeing that picture reminds me of many patients I helped treat...drank lots of alcohol, ended up in hospital with livers on their last legs. Some passed on, of course. |
domainsales18:The original idea , I think was to start something like the frat system in the USA. I don't think Soyinka and the original Pyrates were into violence...they were more of anti-colonialist in their orientation. Sadly, it mutated into something else. More detailed story here. |
It isn't strange...our COAS keeps snakes.... |
IvarTheBoneless:Abeg...no put sand for someone's garri... |
hezy4real01:Feed it some milk and fish. |
Nigerian governorship elections are the real hotcake. If you are President, before you say 'Hmm', Senate is on your case, then before you say 'aah', House of reps is on your case, then before you say 'yee'...the Supreme COurt has already ruled on your buisness... Appointments you make...scrutinized. Newspapers dissect you during and after retirement. But being a governor...you can make and unmake, you can appoint all the LG chairmen, the State House of Assembly is in your pocket...and life goes on.... That's why Amaechi and Wike are at each other's throat. I wish Rivers people gave both of them the boot...but they won't. Well...Nigerians have bad leaders because we have bad followers. |
naptu2:Good morning. Did not grow up in the Southwest, but grew up in the North in the 80's...and this tune was very very familiar, especially as the local NTA station would play it before the start of transmissions while showing that famous rainbow test pattern..... It's been quite a while since I heard it....and I did not know the name of the band, but now I do. Thanks a lot. Seems like Spyro Gyra is still active.(Wikipedia article) |
rinzaugustine:India and Pakistan both have large numbers of desperately poor people. They also have nuclear weapons. Basically, they are at the same level. India also has 150million Muslims. |
A few things about China.. 1.For our Christian brethren, Xi Jinping is also cracking down on Christianity too. The idea behind the clampdown on religion in china is to make the country a paradise of state atheism. 2.The area where most of those Muslims live is the Xinjiang province...which has a strong separatist movement..who are the real targets. Note that China has another separatist movement in Tibet...where some of the same harsh measures have been developed...including against the dominant religion there...Tibetan Buddhism. 3.Then China is also moving millions of non-Uighur...the Uighurs are the natives of Xinjiang ...into the area. This fosters ethnic hatred..and leads to crisis. 4.Look...I know many guys on this thread hate Islam. And yes...I have seen how fundamentalist Islam can cause chaos., disruption and death. But in this China's case..it isn't just Muslims that are being targeted. Fauln Gong, Christians , Tibetians, etc....all to make sure everyone is a state atheist. |
Not excusing her... But the thing is...NIGERIA is a poor country...and any lady has to look for a rich husband...it is all part of the 'hustle' Plus one thing the OAP did not mention..she wants a rich guy so that her children don't go hungry. Add the fact that she has dependents...that need to be taken care of. If she marries a poor guy..who go take care of am? There are very few women who would go with a guy who is starting from zero. God help us single men find those women. But while we condemn her materialism, it isn't her fault. This is still a man's world. Men control most of the money and power. |
tete7000:I hear you. However, our school fees are below $1000 per annum for government unis. Most government unis are poorly funded. ASUU has been crying about this (most people think ASUU cries only for salary...but they also talk about this thing too)..and our universities, primary and secondary schools are somehow expected to share N800bn out of a budget of N9 trillion yearly?(And we are still building more universities). And of the N3trillion promised universites in 2009...only 500bn has been paid. At the end of the day, there is a serious funding gap...and either fees go up, or we keep on taking loans....or we just accept and endure. And who enforces accountability? It is the people.Sadly most Nigerians just vote and go home... |
Who knows...maybe they were from another branch of the security forces....could be domestic intelligence. Or even the Police's Special Fraud Unit... Anyway, i speculate. |
is inclusive?
