Police does a lot of good work.

The reason why you don't hear much about it is because it isn't reported. It does not sell papers or generate clicks.

'Police helps girl find her way home' does not sound controversial as 'police kill 5 innocent people'.
PoliticsRe: Atiku, Free Market And The NNPC by theoldpretender(m): 3:48pm On Mar 25, 2019
The problem is, most Nigerians are opposed to selling NNPC.

1. Selling NNPC means goodnight fuel subsidy, hello price increase in fuel prices

2.People are already complaining about how 'we sold NEPA, no improvement'...(there is no improvement because the law does not allow DISCOS sell at high prices.

The problem is not APC or PDP....the problem is Nigerians do not want to pay higher amounts of money for anything. That is why privatising government agenices is unpopular.

And no matter how much explaining you do....how selling NNPC would actually promote growth and investment in the fuel sector, and how new refineries would be built, and how prices of fuel would come down...all people see is HIGH prices.

Even Atiku supporters bash Buhari for his partial removal of subsidy. Meanhwile anti-PDP guys were blasting GEJ for his own partial removal in 2012....

I wonder, why do Nigerians love low prices for everything...even to the detriment of their economy.

Oil didn't sell at 140 per USD in 2015.

But keep feeding yourself with yeye idiology. Maybe we should give your incompetent government 50 years and they will be able to get naira below 250/USD
1.The $140 per barrel is the breakeven price...at which we would be able to run a budget without borrowing, and at which we can safely buffer the naira.

2.Below that , we have to take loans to stay afloat.

3.If you get that...then you would see I am critiquing the government economic policy of overt reliance on oil.

4.Nigeria has to get off oil

Thank you and good afternoon.

Increase in refining capacity can be done via removal of fuel subsidy...which would attract investment in downstream and upstream sectors.

But since Nigerians don't want that....

But price of dollar to naira will not drop.

Idiats!
That's because due to low oil prices, we don't have enough dollars flowing into the economy....therefore value of naira remains high.

Oil has to go above the breakeven of $140 per barrel before we can have a high value naira.

StOla:
Anytime I remember what Jonathan and Okonjo Iweala did to Nigerian foreign reserves and savings, I shake my head at the lost opportunity to build on the economic successes of the Obasanjo regime that same Okonjo Iweala played a celebrated role.

When I remember that all the expenditures made was largely to buy 2nd hand trains, build almajiri schools, provide funds for embezzlement by military chiefs, and provide funds for Jonathan's reelection under the guise of security funds to fight terrorism, I rejoice that he was sacked and returned to his village.

When I remember that over $6.8b of counterpart funding for JV oil projects with International Oil Companies, were left unpaid by the same regime that was making a windfall from the sales of crude oil, I begin to wonder if the then president was not an enemy of the state.

When I remember that the same economy we were told was very sound, had to start borrowing to pay federal workers salaries to the tune of N470b ($2.5b) for Feb/Mar/Apr 2015, just because oil prices had dropped to below $60/barrel, the more reason I believe Nigeria would have encountered the Venezuelan type of economic collapse, had the same Ineffectual Buffoon remained in power when oil price eventually dropped to $27/barrel.

The Jonathan government was a big ponzi scheme that refused to invest, liquidated all the investments inherited, spent all the savings with $20b ECA perished to $2b, spent every single kobo they generated in their tenure, and left a national wage bill that even oil producing states could not fulfill if they had to be responsible for other state expenditure to provide public services to the people.

Even when the EFCC was busy trying to limit the corruption and theft ongoing in that regime, Jonathan did not welcome the publicity his regime was getting, and exclaimed that there was no corruption but ordinary theft, yet billions of dollars were disappearing and those who dared to speak were forced out of their station like Lamido Sanusi.

When we needed a Joseph to save up grain for the years of famine, we were saddled with a Jonathan who would work against his own house and give up his own inheritance to his friends.
Yes but even then

1.Under this admin, we are still over dependent on oil

2.We still throw away billions on subsides

3.And we still have issues with corruption.

Pls what is rugby
It is a team sport like football, only you use your hands as well as the legs.

There are several variants...but for ease of explanation

There are two teams, each of 15 players each

The goal of each team is to get the ball to the endzone...the line of the opposing team. Once they put the ball over the opponent's line...they score a try.

Each try is worth 5 points, with an extra point added if a try is converted...ie a designated player kicks the ball over the goal post.

I decided to reply you on this thread instead. This is our Rugby team hosting the Rugby MEA championship and the African silver cup. So the rugby team is global. Buh as for golf, it's individual game. You can become a golfer and register for any competition in the world following the stages. Just like i made mention earlier on the other thread, there were many SA polo clubs that participated in the last Ibadan polo competition that i witnessed. Both sports seems not to be national thingy buh rather individuals. Same with MotoGp and F1 i guess.
Rugby should be more popular, but in Nigeria it is a niche sport.

Hope the tourney helps make the game more popular here.

PoliticsRe: Power Generation Drops From 4,708.3MW To 2,938MW by theoldpretender(m): 8:03pm On Mar 24, 2019
Olumyco:
Guys we need to analyze the issues raised here.
These are the issue... just gonna put them up here in points.

1. Power fell from 4.708.3MW to 2,938.5MW which means 1769.8 MW was lost. Meanwhile on Thursday 21/03/2019 power peaked at 4.806.8MW according to Nigeria Electricity System Operator (NESO), an arm of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
......This means power generation has been fluctuating.

2. Nigeria's Electricity Installed Capacity = 12,910.40MW.
Available Capacity from Gencos = 7,652.60MW
Transmission Wheeling Capacity = 8100MW
.......This means that Gencos is not capable of running all the power stations/all the infrastructures to full capacity in the country.

3. The highest Gencos has been able to supply is 5,375MW
......This means the highest Discos has been able to buy from Gencos is 5,375MW. This is because Gencos has 7,652.60MW available but Discos could not afford to take all. And I don't think Gencos can be wasting money Generating above what Discos can afford.

4. Nigeria uses two means to generate Electricity. Thermal (70%) and Hydro (30%)
.... This means that our electricity generation technology is still low. Nigeria can look into Solar and Biogas.

5. Drop in power generation is as a result of limitations of TCN and Discos in terms of network infrastructure coupled with lack of payment to Gencos.
....This means that the network infrastructure of TCN and Discos used in transmitting and distribution are limited. Also Gencos are not paid adequately.

6. Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET) buys electricity from Gencos and sells to Discos. There is a payment agreement in which NBET pays 74% and Discos pays 26% to Gencos. But now NBET has not been able to pay since December 2018 due to the fact that the FG payment intervention agreement of N701 billion which run from January 2017 for two years ended last year December 2018. Discos has continued to pay its own 26% to Gencos in which Gencos pay to Gas suppliers. Now Gas suppliers are not ready to accept 26% payment from Gencos again. Gencos to combat this had to get loans to pay Gas Suppliers.
.....This means that Nigeria Government through NBET has been paying a subsidy of 74% to Gencos and now they cant pay again. Discos has continued to pay 26% which Gencos too pay the Gas Supplier and now the Gas suppliers are not taking that again. Gencos are even borrowing now.

7. TCN does not have network capacity to take all the power generated by Gencos. Though they claim to have the capacity for 8100MW but in reality they can only sustain 4500MW
....This means that apart from the fact that Discos cannot buy all the power made available by Gencos, also TCN does not have infrastructure to sustain power beyond 4500MW

8. Rainy season is coming and we should be prepared for more drop in power generation as transmission and distribution networks in the country are weak and bad.
.....This means that both TCN and Discos have weak and poor network infrastructure. And this will cause a drop in the country's power generation. So we are to prepare for more darkness during rainy season.

9. TCN, a Government owned company, manages the National Grid which has collapsed 5 times between January and February this year, 2019.

The above are what were raised in the post and this calls for a serious attention and going with this, the electricity issue of Nigeria is complex and need to be addressed from the root.
Great post sir.

Point number six...well the obvious solution is allowing DISCOS to increase bills to make up for the 76% government isn't paying. But since that is not politically proper....

In my own opinion, we don't have a choice. Electricity costs money.

The religion issue is there because we have a share the money economy.

Also the while religion issue started with the Sharia fight during the drafting of the 1979 constitution. Add the religious crisis of the 1980 to 87 period, and the fact that many Christians perceived that they got no help from the government, and thus we are here.

In 2015... anpp, acn , part of APGA and several others had joined to form APC. Buhari got more votes in the South as a result. And Obasanjo was backing Buhari this time.

Buhari can be beaten...when he does not have a unified force across the country behind him.

Governorship elections are different from Presidential election.

In 2015....Plateau voted for PDP in the presidential. And voted for APC in the gubenatorial.

In 2015..Gombe went APC in presidential, PDP in gubenatorial.

Then gubenatorial elections don;t happen on the same day as the presidential. As a result, people have time to cool down and reflect on whom they would choose. APC governorship candidates cannot depend on the Buhari wave.

On the political front this is four years of this administration. It has barely done anything to stimulate capacity. At ghe end of this coming term it will have spent half of the time the PDP was in office. My projections are not looking good. It has been all hot air and rhetoric., scant action.

On the industry front, I think it is time to think outside the box to sort out the energy crises. We need new ideas and legislation to completely open up the industry to attract investment. We cannot afford to wait on industry operators who are unable to source investment funding to expand capacity on one hand and a general public who are unwilling to pay right the prices to make power production a viable business on the other.
They can't source funding because

1.Laws force them to sell power below production costs

2.A large percentage of people and govt don't pay bills

3.Which bank would give cash under that circumstances?

The discos and Gencos are all private firms.

The problem is they are not allowed to charge bills above the production cost, meaning they cannot make profits

Add the fact that only one third of Nigerians pay their power bills, and government agencies owe 1 trillion, and banks are reluctant to give loans to the discos and Gencos, and you see the problem

Plus, which new investors are going to come when the laws virtually dont allow them make a profit?

Basically, only one third.of people connected to the grid pay.

Government owes the discos 1 trillion naira.

Discos cannot charge market price for power thanks to the law setting them up.

So, at the end, there is a cash shortfall and money builds things

Either bills go up, every house is metered, and everyone pays, or power is going to be poor forever.

Nigerians need to wake up to the realization that power is not free of charge

Munroe stated, “I am a graduate and I have been teaching for some years now. I was engaged to give private lessons to the girl at home. We both became close in the process and she shared her burdens with me. In all honesty, she told me she was 15 years old. On February 19, she visited me as she normally did. She had wanted me to be with her even when I resisted.

“At a point, my refusal caused a serious disagreement between us. I succumbed to her advances to let peace reign. We had sex based on her consent. I never knew before now that she was still a child under the law and was not capable of giving consent. The first one took place in my house. I asked her several times if she had a boyfriend just to discourage her from being close to me.”
I;m afraid I have no sympathy for the guy

First, I don't believe he did not know the girl's age. He obviously knew it. At least he could have guessed the age from what he was teaching her.

Second, even if she is 15 years old...that is below the age of consent.

Third....why do you allow a 15 year old visit you? Alone at your house? You played with fire...and now you are crying when it burnt you.

Fourth, where were the girl's parents? You don't leave your 13 year old daughter with a single young man. Sparks will fly...by the time it starts an inferno, you go know say risk na risk.

Fifth, teenage girls often have crushes on older men. In my harsh opinion, if the guy was wise, he would have turned down her advances. Or sought advice on what to do. Or handled it matruedly as an adult. Or even ended the contract there and then. But no...

The man created problem for himself.
