NOC1:True... Though I was also present at an EFCC raid..and they came in mufti, and an unmarked van. Then again it was ten years ago.Things might have changed. |
tete7000:The problem with this kind of attitude is that at the end of the day, we will have poor hostel accommodation and nothing would be done because 'the money would be embezzled' Increase government allowance FOR EDUCATION...money would be embezzled Take loan to improve things ...money would be embezzled. So what is your solution then? This democracy, not just to vote leaders and go and sit down, but to also put pressure on same leaders. You cannot pay 400 naira and expect to get 4million naira worth of goods. |
AnanseK:Equatorial guinea produces 420000 barrels of crude per day for 1.3million people. Nigeria produces 2.4million barrels of crude per day for 200million people. In short we produce 6 times the oil of equatorial guinea for a population that is 200 times greater See why we don't have enough money? And why we have to fight corruption? On a positive note, good to see education taken seriously there. Far cry from the hard days of the 1970s |
crazygod:They should be more serious. But according to the 2009 ASUU fg agreement, universities need at least 2trillion yearly in additional money, plus the less than 1trillion education as a whole gets. Meaning on a good day, budget for education should be 4trillion naira. Our total budget is 9 trillion naira. See the problem. And govt has to spend money on other sectors which need just as much |
PassiveNaira:What are you crying about? The rooms look that way because there are seven or more people sharing one room meant for just 1 person. Either we pay high fees so that hostels in govt universities can look like Harvard, or we take loans |
kinibigdeal:Yes so that the corrupt can get away with our money that could have helped fix this problem. But never mind, efcc must leave your heroes alone, and arrest only those that are not on your side... Me, APC or PDP, make dem vomit our yams and potatoes. |
donkarly:Trump that called us a shithole country... IN the USA, fees cost anywhere between $3000 dollars to $60000.. In Nigeria fees cost less than $400 at all public universities. There is a reason why roofs don't leak in us hostels. Higher fees means better quality accommodation. You people insult your country, and admire a man who was so racist as to prevent black people from renting in his property some 40 years ago. Yet you won't pay the price for better. We need a budget of over 6 trillion for education alone to be up to standard. Our budget is 9trillion. We spend less than one trillion on education. Fees go up, or we take loans or we just endure |
Olalan:Budget for maintenance in many universities isn't enough. Especially since governments past and present have not paid ASUU the 3trillion promised in 2009. |
gidjah:i'll see you when you get there If you ever get there See you when you get there I'll see you when you get there If you ever get there See you when you get there |
jrusky:I work in the health sector, and I get paid a good enough salary....but sometimes it can be frustrating to see a patient who needs admission, and can't take it up because no money, or a patient who has a illness that cannot be treated with the facilities you have in Nigeria.... After a while , you get frustrated and get out. As for his salary, the OP is probably a senior registrar at a teaching hospital. In addition to clinical duties, they teach medical students, do research (you cannot be a consultant without writing a research paper...and it must be genuine , nothing like copy and paste ), and as a surgeon, the guy probably does plenty surgery (because most teaching hospitals in this country are where every surgical op ends up)..so as to gain experience. 50000K is good (and it is most likely a government hospital...federal)...probably includes clinical and academic allowances. And if he is working in a government teaching hospital...most of them are poorly equipped because government is funding them on a budget for health less than N1trillion (when you need probably at least N3-4 trillion). Add the stress (most teaching hospitals take on the job that a good primary and secondary hospital is supposed to do)...and you will get where the OP is coming from. |
wizzyrich:Kenyans train and run at a higher altitude than Nigerians....so that gives them more endurance than the average Nigerian long distance runner. Running at a higher altitude means you can run on less oxygen than people who run at lower altitude. That's why runners who want to beat the Kenyans either travel to Kenya to train, or to very high altitude areas (like 4000 m and more above sea level: the highest point in Nigeria is about 2500m above sea level) to train(eg Mo Farah who trained in the American Rockies..which is similar somewhat to Kenya altitude wise.) |
SamSara01:Doctors (he is one) have a better chance of getting a job in the UK...than other cadres. However, places are 'limited', though with the shortage of doctors over there...(I know of five doctors who have ported to the UK and all of them have jobs) |
abbiboy:He said he is a senior resident at a teaching hospital, possibly at one of the older teaching hospitals, so it is possible he is earning that high. Also, if he is doing PP (PRIVATE practice...) on the side....then that adds/supplements the salary |
Trolla:good advice....but I STRONGLY SUGGEST IELTS of at least 8.5 and do the academic IELTS, not the general one. |
When will people learn... They got the situation, they got me facin' I can't live a normal life, I was raised by the stripes So I gotta be down with the hood team Too much television watchin' got me chasin' dreams I'm an educated fool with money on my mind Got my 10 in my hand and a gleam in my eye I'm a loc'd out gangsta set trippin' banger And my homies is down so don't arouse my anger, fool Death ain't nothin' but a heartbeat away I'm livin' life, do or die, what can I say I'm twenty-three now, but will I live to see twenty-four The way things are going I don't know Tell me why are we, so blind to see That the one's we hurt, are you and me Gangsta paradise Coolio |
joshuaidibia:Thing is, if you post anything on Messi or Ronaldo that is perceived as being an 'attack' on either of them on this site...their partisans will come for you well well. Once posted something to the effect that Messi has not won the world cup because Argentina has not been able to get the right type of team playing behind him...and got several angry quotes and mentions from Messi fans. |
joshuaidibia:Please you Messi and Ronaldo fans should leave us in peace! ![]() |
Looking at the lies 1. Bail is free.... Well, bail would be free...if we funded our Police force adequately, and if the Police themselves policed the bad eggs in their midst. 2.One Nigeria The country is united...until the politicians decide to use us a pawns in their war over who gets to share the oil money. 3.Police is your friend. Yes, the Police seriously misbehaves. But at the same time, they are seriously poorly equiped and poorly underresourced. Also, people hide criminals from the police. And when you do that...you deny people justice. We don't keep records in this country, plus, we don't have things like DNA databases, CCTV, fingerprint databses, etc. And when police arrest someone...and charge to court...and the judge frees them on bail...or because...bribe was paid... Plus, we don't have enough judges, enough lawyers, etc. And evidence...do we have adequate facilites for storing evidence? And can government pay for all this on a very poor budget? Oil is still below $70 per barrel. We need it at $140 per barrel. Shebi we go take loan? 4.Youths are the leader of tomorrow... Yes, all them old men. But...many educated Nigerian youth sef....they sit down and chop money, and chop money, and refuse to join party and agitate agitate All of them were here on Nairaland chanting Likes for Atiku, share for Buhari. But dem no wan join poltical party. Meanwhile, old men like Atiku and Buhari are running around , doing the hard work, making alliances? Youths are the leaders of tomorrow...only if they work hard. Macron of France is leading france because of ten years of hard work. No food for lazy man. 5.Education is the key to success Is this a lie? Didin't all our leaders at Abuja at least finish secondary school? How many people who never went near school are successful? Dangote that is our richest man was educated up to University level. MOST of our captains of industry and political leaders have at least school cert attempted. Abeg...education is the key to success. If I was not educated, do you think I would have had money to buy the stuff I have? Abi una wan someone to dash you job like that? And if not getting education means you can succed better than the educated...how come all our successful illiterates are sending their kids to school? |
josielewa:1..Hezekiah lived 15 more years, during which Manasseh was born. We know the career of that king. 2.How can God be suddenly favouring Buhari, who many Christian leaders have said is not a good guy? Don't excuse errors |
senatepresido:Then why didn't these prophets reflect that in their prophecy? Why didn't they foresee Buhari rigging himself in? They should have said so! Don't excuse the errors running rampant in the church in the name of politics. |
Hmmm When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD and the message does not come to pass or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him. Deut 18 vs 22 |
atakamus:Even if the politicians stopped stealing, a state like Delta would need at least one trillion naira to make the schools there standard. The stealing in.Nigeria is bad, what's painful is that the thieves are stealing from a very poor treasury |
johnmattew:Actually no. Some states have over the last few years handed back schools that were taken over from missionaries back tosaid missionaries. If we want.schools to look like the ones in America, we need a education budget in the trillions of naira |
sonature1:Back in 1999, a group of people approached Obasanjo with request for Ijebu state. At the time, state agitation was at an all time high. Once Obasanjo informed his guests about the constitutional provisions, the cry for states died down |
The problem is government runs too many schools, and the education budget cannot adequately cater for all of them. Time some schools went public private. |
Amuocha:Power to create states rests in the national and state assemblies, not in the hands of the president |
Creating states requires a 2/3 majority I'm the National Assembly, as well as a 2/3rd majority in the State houses of assembly before the new state can be created. Inasmuch as the Borgu people are enthusiastic about new state, Buhari can't do anything. |
Kundagarten:There haven't been left wing mass murders of recent....BUT...there have been left wing extremist groups. Good example...the Red Army Faction (a german group), anarcho-leftist groups in Greece, and the Weathermen, the BLACK liberation Army, and the FSLN (active in the USA in the 1970's and early 1980's. Fun note the late Tupac Shakur's dad was jailed for life in 1988 for terror related activities), the FARC (Colombia...very very violent, just declared peace in last 3 years), ELN (Colombia), Shining Path (Peru...Maoist). India has an active leftist terror insurgency as do the Philippines. Some terror groups like ETA (Spain) and the IRA (uk) are nationalist , ethnocentric groupings with a leftist flavor. So also is the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO). Also, many communist regimes were very very left wing...and very very brutal. People get killed there. Soviet Union (millions dead due to purges, offences, etc) China (eg the Cultural Revolution) North Korea |
mORTGAGES... |
ayodaisi:Also, other tribes...especially...Yoruba ronu! On a more serious note...say no to tribalisim. |
ensamy: ![]() Some of the most brutal wars took place long before Chrsitianity and Islam came around, long before there was a Bible or QUran (Just go and read about the Assyrians. Not from the bible...other historical sources.) And many atheists have been violent people. Stalin was an atheist. He also was responsible for the deaths of millions. |

), and as a surgeon, the guy probably does plenty surgery (because most teaching hospitals in this country are where every surgical op ends up)..so as to gain experience. 50000K is good (and it is most likely a government hospital...federal)...probably includes clinical and academic allowances.
