They dont touch you, the only thing I hate is how they do break into your apartment.
True...

Though I was also present at an EFCC raid..and they came in mufti, and an unmarked van. Then again it was ten years ago.Things might have changed.

And who told you the increase fee won't be embezzled? You never sabi this country...
The problem with this kind of attitude is that at the end of the day, we will have poor hostel accommodation and nothing would be done because 'the money would be embezzled'

Increase government allowance FOR EDUCATION...money would be embezzled

Take loan to improve things ...money would be embezzled.

So what is your solution then?

This democracy, not just to vote leaders and go and sit down, but to also put pressure on same leaders.

You cannot pay 400 naira and expect to get 4million naira worth of goods.

Equatorial guinea produces 420000 barrels of crude per day for 1.3million people.

Nigeria produces 2.4million barrels of crude per day for 200million people.

In short we produce 6 times the oil of equatorial guinea for a population that is 200 times greater

See why we don't have enough money? And why we have to fight corruption?

On a positive note, good to see education taken seriously there. Far cry from the hard days of the 1970s

This is what happens when govt ain't serious about education in the country
They should be more serious.

But according to the 2009 ASUU fg agreement, universities need at least 2trillion yearly in additional money, plus the less than 1trillion education as a whole gets.

Meaning on a good day, budget for education should be 4trillion naira.

Our total budget is 9 trillion naira.

See the problem. And govt has to spend money on other sectors which need just as much

All is packaging from head to toes.
What are you crying about?

The rooms look that way because there are seven or more people sharing one room meant for just 1 person.

Either we pay high fees so that hostels in govt universities can look like Harvard, or we take loans

Trump that called us a shithole country...

IN the USA, fees cost anywhere between $3000 dollars to $60000..

In Nigeria fees cost less than $400 at all public universities.

There is a reason why roofs don't leak in us hostels. Higher fees means better quality accommodation.

You people insult your country, and admire a man who was so racist as to prevent black people from renting in his property some 40 years ago. Yet you won't pay the price for better.

We need a budget of over 6 trillion for education alone to be up to standard. Our budget is 9trillion. We spend less than one trillion on education.

Fees go up, or we take loans or we just endure

Mr you are yet to do your Masters and you are already receiving 500k in Nigeria?

Bro be honest to yourself then you will get honest advise.

A poor working condition, non conducive environ to work, frustration etc as you mentioned and yet such poor managed organization still cough out 500k monthly for you?

Bro I have issue with your post because I'm a employer of Labour so I know what is going on out there what you postedhere is of questionable facts ok. No offense but I'm not buying buying it, it sound freaking bogus.
I work in the health sector, and I get paid a good enough salary....but sometimes it can be frustrating to see a patient who needs admission, and can't take it up because no money, or a patient who has a illness that cannot be treated with the facilities you have in Nigeria....

After a while , you get frustrated and get out.

As for his salary, the OP is probably a senior registrar at a teaching hospital. In addition to clinical duties, they teach medical students, do research (you cannot be a consultant without writing a research paper...and it must be genuine , nothing like copy and paste grin), and as a surgeon, the guy probably does plenty surgery (because most teaching hospitals in this country are where every surgical op ends up)..so as to gain experience. 50000K is good (and it is most likely a government hospital...federal)...probably includes clinical and academic allowances.

And if he is working in a government teaching hospital...most of them are poorly equipped because government is funding them on a budget for health less than N1trillion (when you need probably at least N3-4 trillion). Add the stress (most teaching hospitals take on the job that a good primary and secondary hospital is supposed to do)...and you will get where the OP is coming from.

If they know how to trek these long distance, why can't they participate in long distance race and win us some medals like our brothers from Kenya ?
Kenyans train and run at a higher altitude than Nigerians....so that gives them more endurance than the average Nigerian long distance runner.

Running at a higher altitude means you can run on less oxygen than people who run at lower altitude.

That's why runners who want to beat the Kenyans either travel to Kenya to train, or to very high altitude areas (like 4000 m and more above sea level: the highest point in Nigeria is about 2500m above sea level) to train(eg Mo Farah who trained in the American Rockies..which is similar somewhat to Kenya altitude wise.)

SamSara01:
Hey my friend, upon completion of your masters, will you be offered a job in the UK? Or you'll have to return to Nigeria. Immigration laws are really stringent in the UK. Believe me, I know of someone who was working with a Big 4 firm in Nigeria but got a Total scholarship in the UK. She took the scholarship, completed it, returned to Nigeria and it's almost 3 years she has still not got that big job yet. Evaluate your options, UK Masters doesn't guarantee a big job in Nigeria. So except you're almost certain you won't be coming back, I'll tell you to think twice before resigning that job.

By the way, I'm currently in the UK, I got a job here while I was working in Nigeria, and I can comfortably do my Masters while I'm here without fear of anyone sending back home when I'm done.

All the best
Doctors (he is one) have a better chance of getting a job in the UK...than other cadres.

However, places are 'limited', though with the shortage of doctors over there...(I know of five doctors who have ported to the UK and all of them have jobs)

I suggest UK, i don't know if you plan to continue your job here, or take up employment in your country of study (since you said you're currently doing your residency), if you intend to continue your Job here i would say anywhere since you are still coming back, but if you intend to relocate, i suggest UK, reason being masters in canada is very costly and they may require you to have some millions in your account as backup (the course fees aside oo!!).

Its no doubt their doctors are one of the highest paid in the world, if not the highest, but i heard even after your masters, you may not be able to get a Job as a medical officer, even with your experience, as i don't think they recognize your MBBS, (you'd have to do their own medical exam, similar to plab, but i hear they recognize plab, even australia does) even after all the money you spent, you may only be able to work as a medical assistant...

In UK however, its comparatively cheaper the major cost you would incur for plab is plab2 when you would need to pay for tutorials, accommodation, flight costs e.t.c. for a period of 6weeks (you wouldn't need tutorials if you're a genius anyways smiley smiley, just flight cost and accommodation for about 2 days (a place to stay after the exam and you're back)), but all of that is irrelevant since you're going for masters, all these costs would be factored in, and since you're there primarily for study, you'd have enough time to tackle the plab1 (many doctors that take the exam here in nigeria still have to squeeze out time from a hectic schedule to prepare for the exam) so you're at an advantage

Before you're course runs out, if you're dedicated, you'd have passed your plab and be done with your masters, probably even gotten a job there, because its a lot easy to get a job while you're still there as many hospitals prefer doctors who are resident in the UK (i'm no doctor, but i know this because i know someone who went through this process)

Don't joke with an opportunity to travel out, a friend of mine who took the exam said she saw a consultant form luth taking the plab exam also, so you can imagine if a consultant from luth is taking an entry level exam into the UK's medical system, why would you a resident be non-challant about it....

also you'll need ielts, with a score of at least 8.0 or 7.5 before you can start talking of plab1, so much work for you here....Adios and best of luck
good advice....but I STRONGLY SUGGEST IELTS of at least 8.5 and do the academic IELTS, not the general one.

Ronaldo was playing for Manchester United in England where he had conquered by winning the UEFA champions league and a set of other trophies and individual awards.

Few months later when the English Premier League was becoming boring to him, he heard of a dwarf from the South that has been making exploits in the Spanish league with the help of two veterans, Lord Iniesta and Earl Xavi. Ronaldo, being a lone ranger, took his belongings, headed South to Spain and sought refuge in the house of the closest rival to the dwarf king. There, he built his castle and raided the country, stripping the dwarf king of all his glory, winning the ballon d'or 4 times. When Lord Iniesta and Earl Xavi could not keep up with the fierce battle, Barcelona recruited two young nobles, Neymar and Suarez, to slave for the dwarf. Of course, we all know that the young Lord Neymar was a deserter. He took to his heels when the war became intense. However, Ronaldo yet again conquered in Spain.

As time passed, there were whispers mocking Ronaldo for not being able to win a trophy for his country of birth. Then again Ronaldo set out with mere farmers, blacksmiths and bricklayers. He motivated them against all odds till he won the Battle of France, where he took the Euro Cup as the spoils of the battle (mind you, it has been recorded that till date, the dwarf king is still in search of at least a spoon for his countrymen but none has come forth. He had even gone on exile for sometime and came back yet the situation worsened).

Ronaldo having conquered Spain, sensed he was going to start living a boring life yet again. He then heard of a country in the north where strikers hardly score goals. He took his belongings and set out on a journey northwards to Italy where he has built another castle and is making exploits as usual. He is currently "The King in the North" meanwhile the dwarf king is still stuck in Spain, ruling a small fishing village, maltreating poor farmers like Huesca and Girona.

PoliticsRe: Which Of These Is The Sweetest Lie? by theoldpretender(m): 9:29am On Mar 17, 2019
Looking at the lies

1. Bail is free....

Well, bail would be free...if we funded our Police force adequately, and if the Police themselves policed the bad eggs in their midst.

2.One Nigeria

The country is united...until the politicians decide to use us a pawns in their war over who gets to share the oil money.

3.Police is your friend.

Yes, the Police seriously misbehaves. But at the same time, they are seriously poorly equiped and poorly underresourced.

Also, people hide criminals from the police. And when you do that...you deny people justice.

We don't keep records in this country, plus, we don't have things like DNA databases, CCTV, fingerprint databses, etc.

And when police arrest someone...and charge to court...and the judge frees them on bail...or because...bribe was paid...

Plus, we don't have enough judges, enough lawyers, etc.

And evidence...do we have adequate facilites for storing evidence?

And can government pay for all this on a very poor budget? Oil is still below $70 per barrel. We need it at $140 per barrel. Shebi we go take loan?

4.Youths are the leader of tomorrow...

Yes, all them old men. But...many educated Nigerian youth sef....they sit down and chop money, and chop money, and refuse to join party and agitate agitate

All of them were here on Nairaland chanting Likes for Atiku, share for Buhari. But dem no wan join poltical party.

Meanwhile, old men like Atiku and Buhari are running around , doing the hard work, making alliances?

Youths are the leaders of tomorrow...only if they work hard. Macron of France is leading france because of ten years of hard work. No food for lazy man.

5.Education is the key to success

Is this a lie? Didin't all our leaders at Abuja at least finish secondary school? How many people who never went near school are successful? Dangote that is our richest man was educated up to University level. MOST of our captains of industry and political leaders have at least school cert attempted.

Abeg...education is the key to success. If I was not educated, do you think I would have had money to buy the stuff I have?

Abi una wan someone to dash you job like that?

And if not getting education means you can succed better than the educated...how come all our successful illiterates are sending their kids to school?

There haven't been left wing mass murders of recent....BUT...there have been left wing extremist groups.

Good example...the Red Army Faction (a german group), anarcho-leftist groups in Greece, and the Weathermen, the BLACK liberation Army, and the FSLN (active in the USA in the 1970's and early 1980's. Fun note the late Tupac Shakur's dad was jailed for life in 1988 for terror related activities), the FARC (Colombia...very very violent, just declared peace in last 3 years), ELN (Colombia), Shining Path (Peru...Maoist). India has an active leftist terror insurgency as do the Philippines.

Some terror groups like ETA (Spain) and the IRA (uk) are nationalist , ethnocentric groupings with a leftist flavor. So also is the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO).

Also, many communist regimes were very very left wing...and very very brutal. People get killed there.

Soviet Union (millions dead due to purges, offences, etc)

China (eg the Cultural Revolution)
