I met my boyfriend sometimes last year, I really love him, he's caring and we complement each other quite well.
His the first son of his family and his dad is quite absent in his life.

he started working at the age of 15 to support his family and has been working since then to support himself and his family, in simplest terms he carries a lot of burdens.
The problem I have with him is that he is addicted to weed, he doesn't let it control him, he functions well but I just have a problem with it.

He says it stops the pain but I don't want it to destroy him.

From what you said, he doesn't let it[marijuana]control his behaviour or his function [his day to day biz]
That means he is not an addict.
He doesn't exhibit the traits of a drug addict.
He is a modest user like most people.
I use marijuana too like your boyfriend.
The problem is that society have indoctrinated to you that smoking or using a natural plant is evil.
And the same society stereotyping marijuana is the same society many other herbal plants like neem leaves, guava leaves, ginger, garlic, onions, basil, myrrh, etc.
Except for health reasons where smoking it comes with respiratory associated risks like lung cancer and artery blockage.
Allow him to use it modestly, except it's affecting his mental or physical health.
I am smoking marijuana as i am typing right now.
People that have never smoked marijuana can never give an open minded and objective analysis of the drug impact on the human body.
The whites has started legalising marijuana for medical and recreational uses.

I have never heard that India had any form of conflict, religious or political, despite their significant moslem population and her large population.
Except little aggression with their neighbours, Pakistan and China.
