TroGunn: So this dude pays N3k (less than $20) for 3 weeks of near constant electricity and is complaining. WTF?
COMPARED to what you pay huh ? Cus you that owns the company he works on pays him in dollars.

Wallie: There's no reason to doubt how much you pay but like you said, you live in a 4 bedroom apartment and run 4 machines a day. No where in my post did I give any indication as to the size of my house or apartment and what’s contained in it.

Also, in my post, I said “as high as an occasional $600 per month.” I would have thought adding the qualifier “occasional” before 600 means that it only gets that high sometimes but I guess not…
Ofcourse you occasionally live in a 200 room mansion or maybe you grow weed in your basement with radio bulbs. Maybe it is better you indicate the size of you mansion for us.

Wallie: I understand your feelings especially since the service is erratic but keep in mind that the rate is just a needed precursor to get investors motivated to come into the power sector. An investor can now say with confidence that it will take X number of years to recoup their investments based on the current rate. The 500 naira is probably a service charge for providing power to your house.
it will take only 3 months by that rate to get back the amount they paid for the company. Now how is that an investment ? What do we gain from such witchcraft investment ? What incentive makes the investor to actually improve the services if he can just sit back and make gains without doing anything ? If china was having that kind of investment i wonder where they would be by now.

ooseven: Hello Mr thoth, i don't believe we've exchanged views before. You probably mistook me for someone else, hence the harshness.

Concerning school of economics, i just expressed my opinions (which could be wrong), the best way i could. All i meant was there has been massive investment in this sector, hence the need to recoup as fast as possible. For example, do you remember how much a Nokia 3310 cost back then or the cost of an MTN SIM? That was at the initial stage when massive investments were made, but later on as people understood how per minute billing worked and managed their airtime more, and more companies came into play, we have a fairly ok Telecomms industry now.

My point was no matter how high it is now, it is still marginally better than when there was no power and everybody had their generators on 24/7.

Mind you i am not a professor or claim to know all, just another Nigerian hoping for a better life. Lets talk not fight.
Mtn was chased away from many countries because of their exploitative mode of business, go read that up on the net, even zimbabwe told them they should play fair or get out. Only western puppet nations like nigerians with greedy criminal leaders and unenlightened citizens would see that as fair. What is the aim of investment if this is what is all about ? Why don't they go to china or vietnam and invest cus i know those country know what they are doing. You people should abandon your Voodoo economics.
PoliticsRe: N3000 Electricity Tariff Credit Exhausted In Three Weeks by thoth: 3:53pm On Aug 14, 2012
ooseven: No, we must not, but if we have to pay for the power supply, then we must ensure that we conserve it. Our problem used to be 'NO LIGHT', now there is light. That is an accomplishment. The concern about the charges is also a fair one, but we have to understand that the improvement in power supply comes at a very huge cost, and its very understandable that in this pilot phase the tariff might be high, but eventually as people learn how to conserve energy and more players enter the power sector, it becomes easier to manage. i am very glad that people are stating 22hr/day and 21hr/day electricity. couple of years back my street only had 10hrs power supply in 3weeks.

Electricty.....checked (in progress)

next stop: SECURITY and EDUCATION
what silly school of economics did you go to ? How did they buy the power company ? What is the meaning of investment when they will make three times what they bought the company in just two months ? What incentive is there to invest and improve the power sector if you can just relax and milk the people ?
Moronic Africans pushing themselves to economic slavery.
PoliticsRe: N3000 Electricity Tariff Credit Exhausted In Three Weeks by thoth: 3:41pm On Aug 14, 2012
Wallie: Now that you’re being charged for exactly what you use, it is up to you to adjust your usage. The problem is that most Nigerians have never been in a position to learn how to conserve electricity due to lack of availability and the erratic way PHCN used to bill people.

Things to consider:
1. Do you need a 60 inches flat screen TV? All things being equal, a bigger TV will always consume more electricity.
2. How about your computer? How much electricity does it consume? All computers are not created equal.
3. Is your fridge and freezer energy efficient? Can you tell me how much energy they consume exactly? The manufacturers usually provide the number.
4. Do you really need a 100 or 80 watt light bulb?
5. How about other kitchen appliances like toasters, microwave ovens etc? How often do you use that your 1300 watts microwave oven?
6. Is your AC energy efficient? Do you run your AC on “Hi” 18 hours a day even though your windows are partially open?

The bottom line is that you need to start checking the energy consumption of any electrical appliance that you buy.

For comparison sake, I pay $0.0986 / kWh which is about NGN15.60 and my monthly bill ranges from $400 per month to as high as an occasional $600 per month. Your rates are not high at all. As a matter of fact, I see no reason why your rates should be lower than what I pay in the US because our transmission and distribution lines are more efficient than yours.

I can almost guarantee that your rates are going to be raised in a couple of years because of the heavy investments that is needed in your power sector.
now listen to this fool, you should have first compared naira to dollars, then compare the minimum wage of US to nigeria and also compare the ratio of the average americans earning and how much he is supposed to pay for electricity every month. What sort of liar are you in that you pay more than $600 on electricity a month ? I think only stupid nigerians would allow themselves to be shafted again and again with this stupid line.
PoliticsRe: N3000 Electricity Tariff Credit Exhausted In Three Weeks by thoth:
How can 500 be collected monthly ? For what ? What maintenance are they doing ? The average african man always shoots himself in the eye not to talk of the foot. Why would the tariff be 13 naira ?
When a black man gets shafted he finds a reason to justify getting cheated. You compare how much you spend on diesel with how much you are supposed to pay for electricity ? How stupid can a human being be ? Ask yourself , are you supposed to be using generators ? On what ground can the two sources be compared ? Why was the price of gas that high ?
They want to shaft you on fuel subsidy and you compare how much UK citizens buy fuel to yourselves as if you have the same minimum wage as them. Now when they succeed to hike the price of gas due to your stupidity then you start comparing the price of gas to the price of electricity. In a country whereby the minimum wage is just 18K and a family man is supposed to pay 30k per month on electricity ?
Nigerians really need to suffer to their breaking point before they ever get intelligent. Keep comparing.

And why they do it SPECIFICALLY in the US and UK. I have seen Africans stay in India 10 years but they don't come back with Indian accent grin or in Malaysia and they don't adopt Malaysian accent....Why Africans? why specifically in these Western countries? pooor niggggggger
From April 18 to August 3,2011 i was in somalia, August 4 to September 19 i was in Eritrea, Listening to you i can boldly tell you that you have never in your life been to Somalia. Anybody that goes there would cry for your people, they have nothing talk less of the time to hate like you do here, anybody that goes there must be to help them in some way and yet we all foreigners have one conclusion about them, they are extremely barbaric and uneducated, lacks the knowledge to comprehend even very simple things and would betray their brother in a heartbeat for smallest promise of fortune.
Have this in mind that i taught them how to use some equipments for 4 months so i know them up close and they are not like you, with what you spew i think your own case might be worse. So before you start hating your brothers pay a visit to your country first so that you will know the truth and know who is your enemy and friend as well. You should know who stands for your people and fight and die with them and also who is killing your people.
I don't know how old you are but if you are to know the truth Somalia and Yemen should be hating Saudi Arabia and Qatar etc. Egypt would not help you be stable instead they just channel American weapons to clan heads to foster sectarian violence and to make sure that the real somalian patriots are defeated, Turkish intelligence mask as physicians and nurses and collect intel and give feedback to somalian enemies as well as serve as link to the clan heads giving then targets to attack and operations to go. Oil has been found in punt and you will watch as it is drilled and not a cent to change the life of hungry and desperate somalians, they will make sure that you guys fight till eternity and they will always exchange $5 weapon for $3 million dollar worth of oil. It is ignorant and disinformed minds like yours that they tap into to get their job done. Maybe your relation is on the side of the western sponsored clans or not but i will just tell you this. KNOW THE TRUTH!! KNOW THE TRUTH!!

From someone who has spent considerable time in your country.

Tens of thousands of Nigerian troops are in Sudan and all over Africa enforcing western Interests and bringing misery and poverty on their fellow african brothers. Nigeria as the largest military power in africa stoodby and supported the western intervention on Ivory Coast, Liberia,Congo and Libya. Nigeria played mercenary roles in Sudan and Liberia as well.
PoliticsRe: Al Mustapha Hamzat killed Abacha? by thoth: 6:29pm On Aug 09, 2012
GenBuhari: The events or assumed facts mentioned by various sources sieem to be consistent with the fact that Al Mustapha was first person on the scene after Abacha's death.
Al Mutapha's on evidence puts himself in the room as Abacha died.
This coupled by his actions immediately following Abacha's death which more or less amounted to facilating what appears to have effectively been a covert coup.
Being in the same room at the time of death does not make someone guilty of murder and considering the position of Al Mustapha it would be more suspicious had he distanced himself from the dying man. If we choose to follow that line of argument and disregarding the position or required role of the actor as you had then many doctors, wives, priests and even children of the deceased would be accused of the same crime.
What verifiable actions did the CIO took that made it a covert coup putting aside the IBB presence and Useni late invitation which we could not use anymore due to the lack of evidence and facts.

At least one cerdible journalist has confirmed IBB was present.
Al Mustapha himself stated that he invited IBB
Wouldn't it be more helpful in our quest if you provide this journalist and his article and the interview where the CIO stated that he invited IBB ? Information of such nature would be extremely valuable in making a resonable conclusion if it can be verified.
As I said, as Abacha's death was not investigated, and IBB was in control afterwards (with Abdulsalami Abuabakar the figure head) it should lead us to conclude IBB was behind Abacha's death, the fact that Wiki Leak reported that IBB considered poisoning Obasanjo, is consistent with this view
There are three points which we can not prove in this assertion.
1: That IBB was in control after Abacha's death.
2: That IBB was behind Abacha's death.
3: That Abacha died by poisoning.
You can see that there is little left to hold on to if the above points are considered.

Light will always supercede darkness, thats why. Your paganism was ment to fall and it did. Tell me what the white men did after they knew your gods, they never bowed down to worship them No! Hey took your graven images to their museums as show, and mockery, and what did your gods do.

I was neither born or raised in Nigeria but each time i am back i go deeper in the tradition of my forefathers, i will be delving deeper till i can have my own ikenga or even alusi.
I found out the education in Nigeria is lacking seriously, growing up in france we were taught about colonialism and the truth about it, what was done and why it was done, the effects and results of it all, they even gave names of who made what suggestion to do what on many of the conquered african nations. The most interesting part was that as a young student the most atrocious acts carried out on africans were praised as valour and contribution to the service of the great nation and i believed all that till university when more factual and brutal truths were being revealed in world history classes and my understanding that those are my people.
Now here in nigeria it is shocking that foreigners know more about nigerian history than Nigerians themselves and the school does not even teach its students about colonialism talk less of the truths that he/she needs to know of such an important event in the history of Africa and nigeria.
Try out this exercise and you will be shocked. Ask any nigerian around you how nigeria was colonized ? He will either blab about how the MISSIONARIES came and colonized us or how england came and colonized us, he will never say HOW, he will never mention the bombings of village markets, the killings and wiping out of whole villages, the forced indoctrination whereby parents are locked up if they don't allow their kids to get indoctrinated by the missionaries about how everything african was evil and barbaric, the village square executions of unwilling parents, the intimidations and extortions of farmers whom a greater portion of their farm work must be taken by our heartless christian colonialist, he does not know of the Ekumeku Movement, the longest war waged against the british for 12 years by the whole igbo nation under unity of oath to serve the interest of the nation. He will not even tell you that colonization was another name for mass slavery Nor will he ever refer to the Aba women riot and exploitative colonial tax that caused it. It is believed that two villages were totally exterminated in igboland alone during the british colonial military expeditions , the Ekumeku alliance was even formed after the british battalion that was sent to totally wipe out and entire village failed.
Nigerians should just drop the damned christianity and go full swing pagan.
You can read more about the Ekumeku at Wikipedia.

GenBuhari: Buharinomics - General Buhari’s economic program marshaled out to salvage the nation in 1984 (- - - continued part3)

In one of his speeches to the people (this one in Owerri), he reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to honoring its debts, the dire economic situation notwithstanding. "The task of this administration is how to persuade Nigerians to understand that for a number of years to come, we would be paying debts, the roads may be long and thorny but we believe that on our shoulders lies the responsibility to save our fatherland from devastation that has resulted from mismanagement" (Newswatch, February 18, 1985).

Buhari could not have been any more correct in his statement above. Assuming Nigeria took no further loans, its breakdown of loan repayments was as follows: 3.9 billion naira ($4.4 billion) in 1985, 3.7 billion naira ($4.19 billion) in 1986, 2.8 billion naira ($3.2 billion) in 1987, until a decrease to 703 million in 1991 (Concord Weekly, May 6, 1985). Nigeria’s precarious financial situation made it impossible for it to finance capital projects and meet up its balance of payment obligations. With oil export pegged at 1.3 million barrels per day by OPEC, borrowing from external sources became necessary. To this effect, Nigeria proposed borrowing 1.795m naira to finance its capital project from the IMF. The patriotism with which General Buhari handled Nigeria’s dealings with the IMF was the highlight and beauty of Buharinomics.

In order to qualify for the loan, IMF gave Nigeria certain conditions which must be met. In 1984 when the naira exchanged for $1.34, the IMF demanded a minimum of 60% devaluation of it. Buhari refused, agreeing only to a "crawling peg"—a mechanism whereby government would realign the currency gradually, forestalling or minimizing economic and social dislocations because of such drastic devaluation of its currency. In addition to the devaluation of the naira, IMF demanded that government took other drastic actions: (a) The government must remove its subsidy on petroleum. (b) It must curtail its expenditure. (c) Government must rationalize its tariff structures. (d) It must put a freeze on its wages. (e) It must put a total end of non-statutory transfers to State governments, (f) Government must at least institute a 30% raise on interest rates—government resisted this because the decline in its revenue earnings and its debt obligations made it almost impossible to raise interest rates without triggering inflation (West Africa, May 14, 1984).
Suprisingly IBB borrowed more and and more and went in full force with SAP shock therapy on the economy causing catastrophic effects and hundreds of thousands of live and property lost.
Obasanjo came in 1999 and even did thrice more damage yet i can pinpoint what people had against Buhari and Abacha the only duo whom has fought against such economic enslavement and misery for the masses.

PoliticsRe: Al Mustapha Hamzat killed Abacha? by thoth: 9:58am On Jul 22, 2012
GenBuhari: what evidence would you like?
Motives? How can you tell anybody's motive?
when we say "evidence" in this kind of situation we mean events or facts which can help us to arrive at certain conclusions or objects or witnesses which gives credibility to our assumptions.
When we say "motive" we mean any outcome that can reasonably follow in the chain of events which would have been favourable to our subject or which can be the goal or the expected result for his actions. Mind you a motive can only be assumed therefore not an evidence, A credible motive must be able to be reasonably built into the chain of events which means that " Mustapha killed Abacha so that peter obi would be governor " is not credible since we can't establish a relationship between the action and the intended result.
Thirdly the intended results MUST favour the subject (mustapha in this case) positively or we must establish
that he thought so at the time.
With all this we must always keep in mind that a motive is not an evidence.
You can always tell someones motive as in this case " GenBuhari bought a diamon necklace for Mary so that she will agree to date him" we can build a relationship between the action and the result even though the real truth might be that he bought the necklace to thank her for helping him to be president and not necessary has any intention of dating her.
If you can get anything that meets those criteria then you have an evidence or motive which we would want to consider.
Inviting IBB to Aaso Rock and allowing him to convene the meeting to choose new leader
Failing to invite Abacha closest and highest ranked colleague in govt, Gen. Useni, until after IBB and his friend Abdulsalami Abubakar
On this i will ask you to prove to us that IBB was present in the meeting. Even a statement by any member of the SMC that agrees to this claim would be considered an evidence in my opinion.

The fact that Al Mustapha effectively invited and handed control of Aso Rock to IBB
The fact that it is generally accepted IBB was probably involved in Abacha death and wiki leaks more or less implicated IBB as being capable of eliminating Nigerian Heads of State with "Fatal illness or accident"
You have to provide the proof i asked for above in order to for us to take these claim seriously.
I don't think that wikileaks specifically used the word "capable" on IBB, However planning to carry out and action does not give someone the capability as Osama planning to nuke the USA does not make him capable of doing that; just Obasanjo being alive today might prove that he is not all that capable(at some times) of such feats.
The man is trying to get out of jail alive, this would not be a wise move now would it?
A wiser move will be implicating the big dogs or giving as much information for them to offer a deal. If he gives out some of the videos he has and threatens to give out more then i tell you he will be a freeman by Monday.

We still do lack evidence or even a motive for Mustapha to kill Abacha.
We still lack the steps or procedure that Mustapha took to hand power over to IBB.
We still lack verifiable statements from credible sources that leads up to assume Mustapha and IBB ever worked together.
Are you not suprised that for an excruciatingly long period of detention, court appearances and all; that Mustapha has never mentioned an IBB link to the death of Abacha ?
If we are going to choose your side of the argument we should have at least a reasonable point or logic with which we can sell it.

igbo2011: What sector are you in? Are you in education? I am very interested in school curriculum and education from nursery to secondary. I am in economics at the moment but I'm interested in education because it plays a role on the economy. Is there anyway I can help you uplift fellow Africans as well?

@cap28
Thanks for thaat article it is amazsing and uplifting. You need to spread the message around uk because there are many troubled blacks in uk. You can uplift them.thanks for all the great info keep up the good work. Also are you religious at all?
i am not in education per se but i am planning of organizing a group to tour universities and communities and give talks and share books throught the southeast next i come back. There are many books that people needs to read and many writings like this that could be organized and put as a small booklet and shared that would awaken people to ask questions and see things differently. Books on Neo-colonialism by Nkurumah, books on african economic studies by Mr Rhodney and many books which i believe are small sized enough to be reproduced cheaply. I also plan to get writings like the ones above and compile them into pamphlets and distribute as well.
You can teach people what you know and encourage them to teach others. Last time i met a young man that gave a very good talk on african history and effects of being a puppet state to a large crowd in a cyber cafe and i am amazed at how such a little effort can bring change and curiousity in people.

I am speechless after reading this. This man knew how to put the points together so well to make it easy to hit the mind.
When i come back to nigeria i will reprint this as pamphlets and distribute it among the people and undergraduates.
PoliticsRe: Al Mustapha Hamzat killed Abacha? by thoth: 12:56pm On Jul 20, 2012
GenBuhari: There are several irrefutable reasons why I am convinced that Al Mustapha was involved in Abacha's death:

1. Al mustapha by his own admission was in the room as Abacha died. He said he called a doctor he injected Abacha in the neck and heart after which Abacha died.

2. Al Mustapha stated in court that he knew of a plan to kill Abacha and Abiola on the same day.

3. All Accounts of what happened immediately after Abacha's death consistently stated that Al Mustapha, instead of informing the highest ranking officer and one of Abacha's closest and loyal ministers in government - Jeremiah Useni, chose to invite the likes of Babangida to take over at Aso Rock.
Jeremiah Useni has also confirmed that when he arrived in Aso Rock he was surprised to see everybody there before himself.
I thought we already understood that being present in the room while Abacha died does not necessary mean killing him , one of the unchanging statement of Mustapha in all the variations of the statements i read was that he called the Doctor BECAUSE abacha was sick and almost unconscious and not that Abacha was healthy then the doctor injected him and he died.
I believe that if mustapha said he knew of a plan to kill Abacha and Abiola on the same day the whole court would have cringed at the tempt of such information and ask him by "WHO" . He may have said he knew of a plan by SOMEBODY to kill Abacha and Abiola with the intention of implicating the said persons but not necessary himself though that is only an alternative albeit more reasonable way to interprete such pronuncements.
In your third assertion i simply do not know what to say as i still don't know how he had done that and you have not provided me with the priviledge of such information. Was IBB in Aso Rock that morning ? Was he part of the SMC meeting ?
On Useni i would simply say since the meeting did not commence without him and he was part of the meeting and its decisions, that he simply CAME LATE to the meeting and not necessary invited late.
Unless there are information which he choosed to withhold the above reason is not strong enough to claim foul play.
