Foreign Affairs / Photo -- White Teen Mock George Floyd's Killing by Tife20: 8:59am On Jun 06, 2020
The death of George Floyd has sparked outrage and protest but some white teens have created a challenge in which they mock his death.

Floyd died on Memorial Day after now-former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin placed a knee on his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. He’s since been charged with second-degree murder and the three other former officers involved have been charged as well. The country has been beset with nationwide protests with marchers from all backgrounds, but some teens on social media have been making fun of the 46-year-old’s final moments.

The teens, who are mostly white and male, step on the necks of another person, film it and post it to social media as the “George Floyd challenge.”

“Racists are now doing the George Floyd “challenge.” This is what we’re up against, folks. It’s a privilege to make sarcasm about racism instead of experiencing it your whole life,” Mohamad Safa, Permanent Representative at United Nations, tweeted.

Three teenagers in the U.K. have been arrested on suspicion of sending communications causing anxiety and distress according to the BBC. They’ve been released on bail.

“We can confirm we are investigating after an image was shared on social media which showed two men imitating the recent death of US citizen George Floyd,” a spokesperson said.

In the United States, the students are dealing with repercussions as it relates to their schooling according to NBC News. Marquette University rescinded the enrollment of an incoming freshman after he made a post that made fun of Floyd’s death and compared it to the protests that took place in the NFL.

“Some ppl think it’s ok to f—— kneel during the national anthem so it’s ok to kneel on someone’s head,” the post read, according to The Sentinel. “come at me. y’all brainwashed.”

While most of the images featured males, girls were also active participants in the gruesome challenge. In one clip, a girl has her knee on her neck on another who screams that she can’t breathe, a play on Floyd’s last words. The clip continued with laughter and someone cheering them on off-camera.

The seniors were set to attend the University of Missouri and Missouri State University in the fall. However, they have now withdrawn since their actions went viral.

“Given the similarity to the recent death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the video is both shocking and disturbing,” wrote Mun Choi, president of the University of Missouri System and interim chancellor of MU, in an email to the campus community.

“University leaders and I remain committed to combating discrimination and racism in all its forms,” Choi wrote.

Politics / How Akwa Ibom Angry Youths Stormed NDDC Office To Protest Death Of Director by Tife20: 4:44am On Jun 03, 2020
Thousands of youths of Akwa Ibom youths from Eket federal constituency stormed the Akwa Ibom office of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC on Monday to protest the death of the commission’s director of finance and administration, Mr. Ibanga Etang.

The youths drawn from Eket, Ibeno, Esit Eket and Onna local government areas described the circumstances leading to the death of the commission’s director as ”controversial “.

Etang was a former President General Afigh Iwaad Ekid, a foremost socio-cultural organization in Eket Federal constituency.
The youths under the aegis of Afigh Iwaad Eket, carrying placards rued the inconsistencies from the NDDC which made Etang’s death a rather curious one for them.

No official of the commission from the Uyo office came out to address the youths, who requested an independent machinery to thoroughly investigate the cause of the death of Elder Ibanga Etang.

Speaking through their President General, Obongiwaad (Pastor) Godwin Williams, they wondered, “Why Hon. Ibanga Etang died just few days to the probe of the NDDC by the National Assembly, especially after the Commission had, some weeks ago, admitted that the sensitive documents which would aid the probe were in the custody of the Executive Director for Finance and Administration?

They also expressed dismay that the NDDC was quick to link the death of the Ag. Executive Director to the dreaded Corona Virus, even when the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the body authorized to make such declaration had not done so?

“The answers to the above rhetorical questions confirm that Hon. Ibanga Etang’s sudden death is connected to the move by the National Assembly to audit NDDC’s account and to investigate the alleged misappropriation of the 40 Billion Naira Palliative fund. It is obvious that our brother has been sacrificed on the altar and guise of forensic audit and investigation.
They alleged that Elder Etang may have been deliberately killed to cover up certain undercurrents related to the impending probe.

“Consequently, we, the Ekid people are extremely angered by the conspiracy that has led to the unfortunate death of our respected and very illustrious brother. His death is no doubt a monumental loss to Afigh Iwaad Ekid in particular, and to Ekid nation in general. We value the life of every Ekid son/daughter; so, we will not accept or allow this rape on us to be swept under the carpet, especially now that we are aware that NDDC’s plan to eventually link Hon. Ibanga’s death to COVID-19 was thwarted by public outcry against the intended foul play.

“On this strength, we pledge our commitment, as a pressure group who is pained by the loss of its former President-General, to keenly follow up the process of unravelling the real cause of his death. And this we will do as a mark of last respect and honour to our brother, ObongIwaad (Hon.) Ibanga Etang.

The warned that “the death of Hon. Ibanga Etang, the Executive Director of Finance and Administration of the Interim Management Committee of NDDC should not stall the process of auditing the Commission and investigating the 40 Billion Naira Palliative Fund.”

Health / Covid- 19 Who Reveal The Drug That Will Cause More Death When Use by Tife20: 4:12am On Jun 03, 2020
The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned against the indiscriminate use of antibiotics in treating the coronavirus infection.

The global health body warned that the inappropriate and indiscriminate use of antibiotics during the COVID-19 could cause more problems than what it is supposed to solve.

The warning was handed down on Monday, by WHO director-general, Tedros Ghebreyesus, while speaking during a virtual press conference in Geneva.

He warned that; “The COVID-19 pandemic has led to increased use of antibiotics, which ultimately will lead to higher bacterial resistance rates that will impact the burden of disease and deaths during the pandemic and beyond.”

Ghebreyesus noted that the use of antibiotics may not be totally ruled out as only a small percentage of coronavirus patients needed antibiotics to treat subsequent bacterial infections but the indiscriminate use should be avoided.

He said there is an “overuse” of antibiotics in certain parts of the world, while in some other countries, such life-saving medicines were unavailable, “leading to needless suffering and death”.

Education / Schools We Resume Back Soon But No Date Yet- Minister For Education. by Tife20: 11:11am On May 23, 2020
Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has disclosed that there are plans to soon reopen schools nationwide, however, it won’t happen in two weeks as being speculated in some quarters.

Nwajiuba, made the clarification on Thursday during the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, following rumours making the round the Federal Government would reopen schools in the next two weeks.

Nwajiuba said there is no exact date yet for schools to resume, adding that schools will be reopened after they are ”resourced properly”.

“We all are seriously interested in reopening and I believe we will reopen soon. But I can’t confirm what your children said that we will reopen in two weeks. The issue around reopening has nothing to do with the availability of the schools or not. It has to do with national governance. The idea of shutting down the schools has nothing to do with the schools per se.

You heard the chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, the SGF, keep saying it is a national response. It is a single national response and everything we do flows from that.

When they determine, I’m sure you have seen all the experts here, that there is the measure of safety to which we can expose our children, we will gladly do that. We are watching and we are working with all bodies within and outside the country.

The five countries of West African Examination Council (WAEC) are meeting and I just came out of a meeting with African Union (AU) Ministers of Education, everybody is concerned as you are. We hope to reopen very soon. This morning, I met with the Ministry of Science and Technology. We are looking at putting a system in place that can disinfect every child as he goes into a school and disinfect him as he goes out.

If we resource our schools properly we can begin to reopen. But we must be able to ensure that the children go in safe and come out safe and not become a conduit for further infection in society.” he said

Foreign Affairs / Why I Don't Wear Mask-- Trump by Tife20: 12:39pm On May 22, 2020
The United States President, Donald Trump says the issue of wearing facemask wasn’t compulsory for him, having undergone series of covid-19 tests.

Trump also said that though he liked facemasks, he won’t have it on while making a speech (showing a sample of a facemask in his hands).

He made this known on Friday, during a visit to Ford Plant, and in response to questions from the press.

When asked about the use of facemasks, Trump stated that he puts it on a few times, but he had been medically advised that it wasn’t necessary.

“I did wear, I wore one on before but I didn’t want to give the press the pleasure of seeing it.

“It’s not necessary; everybody’s been tested and I have been tested.

“I was given a choice; I was putting one on but they said it’s not necessary, Trump maintained.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC), had earlier recommended “wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain, especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.”

Health / See Reason Why You Should Stop Leading People Money Instead Give Them. by Tife20: 4:09pm On May 20, 2020
To lend simply means to give out with an agreement to get back what you gave out in due time. Lending is suppose to be an avenue where those who need money to do one thing or the other could borrow and do what they want to do and return the money in peace. But on a contrary, a lot of borrowers have become ingrates over time. Before I continue let explain something for the sake of those who might be confused. To lend means to give and collect back later while To borrow means to collect and pay back later. Therefore, The lender is the giver while the borrower is the receiver. Let’s move ahead.

Human beings are ingrates. They can go a long way to do otherwise upon the money you lend them. Some people, when they borrow from you, they will turn themselves to your enemy especially if the money is handsome. Instead of them to appreciate you and pay back as agreed, they will start planning evil against you. It is not as if the money is not there but they will callously refuse to pay you. When you start telling them to give you your money, they will consider it as a disturbance. Anywhere they sees you, they dodges. Even if they are at home, their children will tell you they are not at home because they must have warned them against your coming.

Some will go extra mile to take your name to native doctors and kill you upon your sweat. Money that is not their own. Has it now become a crime to help a fellow who need help? Going extra miles by killing your lender is inhuman. Assuming he didn’t lend you that money, you will say he is too stingy and heartless. Instead of killing someone that lend you money, why not beg him to give you some times or even beg him to gift you the money since you know you won’t pay him?.

Dear reader, this world is a wicked place so care must be taken is everything you do. I will advice you to stop lending money to people especially huge amount. There is a philosophy I have learnt to always observe and it is “Operation no lending”. To avoid stories that touches the heart I don’t lend people money. Instead of lending you the money, I prefer to give it to you without a payback clause. They won’t kill you because you gift them the money but can kill you when you lend them with the hope of getting it back.

I pray that no body will kill you because of your Money in Jesus name.

UNIBEN student uses over 6000 bottle covers to make a portrait of his VC
A first look at the photo will make an observer think they are looking at a painting on a smooth canvass, but the painting was actually done with several bottle covers.

Josh, a student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) used the 6000+ bottle covers to create a 11ft by 7ft portrait of their Vice Chancellor.

The young man who revealed the photo of the portrait said it’s the biggest bottle cap potrait in Africa.

Social media users have since showered praises on Josh who they claim is one of the most talented painters in Nigeria.
