Probably with loan they'll extend...when the west was developing they never attempted such, not even now ...
These guys seem not deterred in coming up with policies aimed only at stagnating the progress Africa is making.

They 'll never, for example, advised African countries not to sign exploitative trade agreements with the EU...

History tells us that nowhere did a people seek liberation that they never attain - the black americans, american indians, southern african nations, east timor, south sudan, etc. These should make those who think they own Nigeria shudder and be wise!...in a national conference at least they won't lost all.

South Sudan in mind! Al Bashir never thought it'll happen...there's nothing as certain as a people's liberation and change. Let those who fool themselves continue.

... Most times I wonder whether we have really place ourselves in the shoes of the Niger-deltans.

...what would be the state of Nigeria today if the oil wells were in western or northern Nigeria?

Until a time when this question is answered honestly, peace in that region may remain elusive.
PoliticsRe: Ex-Militants Threaten To Resume Violence In 2015 by tinkinjo: 2:19pm On May 13, 2013
ezme: The Rebels in this case(MEND and NDVF)do they have mercenaries to plan the rebellion for them? Do they have anti-aircraft weaponry? Or you don't understand what a no-fly-zone is? Didn't you see Libyans begging the international community to come and implement a no-fly-zone? Do you think the rebels would have won that war if the no-fly-zone was not implemented on time? Forget sentiments oh, how many Niger deltans are willing to take up arms? or you think a group of fighters with no real military training armed with talisman and Ak-47 not even up to 10,000 in number can stand the Nigerian Army?
I won't want to dwell on this but if you do a careful analysis you 'll realise that these guys hold the upper hand with access to the sea and source of income they don't even need advertised for mercenaries if they even need them.
If you 're from there, I promise you won't hesitate joining them.
PoliticsRe: Ex-Militants Threaten To Resume Violence In 2015 by tinkinjo: 1:47pm On May 13, 2013
ezme: I pity anybody that would take up arms and go into the creeks, Just one air raid and them go take down their camps. It would take the international community two weeks to arrange a no-fly zone. Can NDVF or MEND withstand an air raid for up to 3days? They should learn from Lybia and be smart about these threats flying around the place.
Do you understand yourself? If Libya and even Syria with better armed forces couldn't defeat rebels what made you think that Nigeria can? And who told you which side the international community would be supporting?

So long as we ignore calls for a national conference, we 're just waiting for the evil day.
PoliticsRe: South-south, South-east Governors Back Jonathan, Condemn Northern Terrorists by tinkinjo: 1:30pm On May 13, 2013
I keep reading stuff about how people should do away with religious and ethnic sentiments while voting. Plausible as this may sound, it may never be possible. let me sound it loud and clear here that voting patterns all over the world always generally reflected this sentiments except where candidates share or fall within the same grouping. I'll like to be proven (with stated facts) otherwise.

The only challenge here is in the quality of candidates churned out by our pol. parties.

CelebritiesRe: Nollywood/Gollywood Actresses Suspected Of Bleaching ..... by tinkinjo: 9:58pm On May 10, 2013
jasper7: You comment is absolutely baseless. Nice Accents sound good, long flowing hair looks nice. If you can just point out anything nice or good about a bleached skin with patches of plenty colors and your comment will make sense. It's just like saying "They said I am hot, so I decided to fall inside fire" BASELESS
That's the point dear! Why don't we all live with what nature bestows on us?

I once saw an African American lady on a Nigerian TV channel promoting the love for our Africanness, and while on it she told a story of how a group of black pupils in America were asked to pick which is more beautiful between a white and a black doll and the young children all went for the the white doll.

The question I asked myself was: why won't they? I mean the lady herself was adorned with Brazilian hair! Why won't theyhuh?

...so if "nice accent" (white accent) sounds good as you claim, why won't white skin look good too? Here lies the hypocrisy.
CelebritiesRe: Nollywood/Gollywood Actresses Suspected Of Bleaching ..... by tinkinjo: 8:52pm On May 10, 2013
We straighten our hair, wear wigs and all sort of extended hair products: You hear them say "love your hairdo!" Some even begged "can I touch it?"

We drop our accents and take up the American or the British and they all enthused: "Oh what a great accent you have!"

...no one chastised us but all encouraged us. Most even sponsor us.

Then we lighten our skin and they start screaming "what have you done to your skin?"

...I mean What hypocrisy!

PoliticsRe: Amaechi Threatens To Expose Abuja-based Politicians by tinkinjo: 1:54pm On May 09, 2013
One should think that Nigerians be they politicians owe it to Nigeria to expose whatever crimes or illegalities anybody has committed against Nigeria.

For threatening alone you risk being if not already seen as part of that criminal or illegal act.
PoliticsRe: Obama Visits Nigeria May 28 by tinkinjo: 1:17pm On May 09, 2013
I often wonder why Nigerians get unnecessarily excited about news like this. What difference does it make whether or not the American president visits Nigeria.

No developed nation acquired that status as a result of visit(s) by president(s) from America!
BusinessRe: Aliko Dangote: Things You Never Knew About Him by tinkinjo: 1:02pm On May 09, 2013
With no attempt whatsoever to disparage this man's achievement (I for one admire his achievement), I dare to say that I detest it when successful individuals talk of hard work as though they break stone to acquire wealth.

Just imagine a graduate of today being given today's equivalent of the $3000, (which I believe can't be less than #5m today) his uncle gave him then, 30years from now at least 40% will be 8/9 digits millionaires at the least.

Not to even mention the fact that he was probably one of the first 100 graduates from his state.

They should do well to spare Nigerian youths these "holier than thou" sermons and work to provide them the same opportunities they had

There's nothing magical about wealth creation especially when it does not involve multihours of laboratory research. It's all about opportunities, planning, diligence, determination, and the likes to keep it short and then God's ...
PoliticsRe: 2015: It’s Either A Northerner Or No More Nigeria - Farouk Adamu Aliyu by tinkinjo: 1:47pm On May 07, 2013
...and some continue to say oh forget it, it's an empty threat. Yet the raw truth remains - this sentiment is shared equally and by the majority along the different divides...Those who love a united Nigeria call for a conference; those who believe they own Nigeria oppose all calls for a conference.

2015...who laughs last laughs best! This cliche remains eternally relevant for those who reason.
PoliticsRe: Dokubo-Asari: No Peace If Jonathan Loses 2015 by tinkinjo: 2:46pm On May 06, 2013
So sad that at this point of our nationhood some groups pretend not to see the end game scenario playing itself out and thus hearken to the call for a conference to preserve our unity.
Unfortunately, as the days go by, by the time the reality hit them in the face it certainly will be too late.

For some ostriches it's an empty threat but for those who aren't playing the ostrich it's more than real...whether rightoo or wrongooo, when it happens, the hate and insults thrown about in Nairaland will sort itself out.

So sad!

That was my first thought when I saw the news...discovered somewhere that 159ltrs = 1 barrel... if true then someone somewhere thinks Nigerians are really dumb...with a capacity for 400,000 barrels, below 70,000 barrels is refined...and our newsmen can't do this simple arithmetic...SMH
