There's something I don't like about the statement. It probably may be its proud undertones. Over the years there have been this tendency of "Lagos people" to talk-up the status of Lagos as though it was attained through their hard work. Let it be known to them that may not have known that Lagos is what it is because of the federal capital status it did enjoy over the years. The airport, seaport, industrial estates, flyovers, dual carriageways, population, etc are all benefits gotten from that status. If Cross River, Delta, Rivers, even Zamfara, or any other state for that matter had that same privilege, most of what we have in Lagos would have been replicated there too. One does not need Abuja to know this fact. In fact Lagos should even be ashamed given the funds available to it that some states have built some of these infrastructures without federal assistance. If kudos were to be given to any place in Nigeria for their attainment, I think places like Aba and Onitsha would be more deserving. But what's the point when all over the world people have always use what they've got to develop their backyards. I mean it's as empty as saying: "Look you Qatar, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia etc you would have been nothing without oil and gas!" Without gold, South Africa will not be what it is! We should be thankful to God for His many mercies. |
omo_to_dun: As for the connotation, it is Nigerians who use the word disparagingly. And does anyone see the irony in this discourse? We are all conversing using the English Language in order to buttress our points. Let's face it: English is our primary language. Our native languages have taken a back seat. It's certainly not in dispute that our languages (native) have taken a back seat. And don't blame us Nigerians 'cos the Brits would've put it differently like Yoruba Language same as English Language in our schools back then as it is now instead of vernacular. The 'trash' I'm really writing is why coin a word - vernacular and only use it for languages native to other people yet refuse to use it to describe your own - English which is also native to you. If I may add, consider yourself saying: "I like your vernacular" to an Englishman!...trust me that word was used in derision to our languages |
Imagine...even if he was a Gandhi... |
omo_to_dun: LMBAO. That's the definition of vernacular. It simply means native or indigenous. It is amazing that 6 other ignoramuses agreed with you. That's not the point. It's rather that the Brits will never in their miserable lives refer to the French or Spanish as speaking vernacular. It's only a language such as yours - Yoruba - that they'll term vernacular. As stated earlier, it,s the connotation. I repeat this word should be skipped. Pleeessssssssssss! |
I hate that word! It has huge colonial undertone...What is vernacular? A friend once protested to a prefect in secondary school days "I don't speak vernacular, I speak Annang!" It soon became a rhyme for those who were caught breaking the "only English rule". ...Such supremacist colonial words should be ostracized. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssss! ![]() |
I'd rather it reads "Niger to build 90 shops..." |
...so where is this jet? In New York? |
Either way there'll still be flooding. Release the water and save the dam and there'll flooding or allow the dam to over-flow then burst and there'll fooding with swifter current and you loss the dam. Hope you get the drift The question should be whether enough wass done to curtail the loss of lives and properties. |
Orikinla: [size=28pt]Why not do the same to the fuel subsidy scam thieves who have stolen enough to buy all the goats in the world?Stealing inderectly is quite different from stealing directly. An indirect thief like 'an Aluu' villager who embezzles Aluu village council funds is almost certainly going to get away with it (the worst being he'll be made swear to an Aluu juju to make refunds); but when one breaks directly into 'an Aluu' household and made away with anything tangible (sometimes even with intention to)and ge caught, then be ready to get the 'treatment'. In most Aluu-like communities, where the thief is a 'common thief' he'll only get the treatment as in above. But that is, I mean that is, if there's no mad man in the nearby crowd. Abhoring as these acts are, Nigerians should stop their pretended exasperation by these events. The truth is it has always been with us; the fact is it is going by the day. We shouldn't be confused by social media. |
Other reports say the Governor is unconscious and has been taken to hospital. ![]() |
What can I say: You've said it all. For me it's been a general life's philosophy |
True it was totally unnecessary. I was baffled,I still am. ![]() |
emmatok: Forget it those students can burn down that village.ar ...and where are some of these ND militants from?...think brother! |
berem: DON'T EVER MESS WITH UNIVERSITY STUDENTS! This is gonna be bloody! WTF is Governor Amaechi doing? Seems he is silent on this case. It's a pity those student were killed irrespective of whether they are guilty. But for students to try revenged is to embark on suicide mission; it will set in motion a series of killings and counter killings that 'll affect the students more 'cos they - students - 'll be more vulnerable. Trust me no organization wins a violent conflict with its host community especially if it is still interested in continuous operation in that community. Remember also that they can't lock themselves within the campus. What am I saying: if you know any student up there advise him/she against it. Tell you what, there's nothing that spurs-on people as communal spirit. I've seen the top command of an army barracks settling for peace after realising it can't win the reprisals with its host community.Even then the community haven't forgiven them and soldiers who stray get missing. |
simp: Think about it , must people just be looking for wahala in the name of freedom of speech. Now you will say islam is not a religion of peace. When you are intentionally insulting someones belief. Can anyone abuse or create bad image about your ordinary dad and you keep quiet talkless of a prophet of God.Interesting!... When someone abuses you, the best option for you before the law is abuse him back. Even in situations like a joke carried too far - Your mum's fart smells awful,it hurts no doubt but you are still barred from attacking physically in response. ...we must understand that the are limits to the extent we can express our discontents...all these violence is senseless and stup1d especially considering the cause. |
Moslems have to change their attitude to these arts. Let them not deceive themselves that the attacks(if one should call it that) on their religion will stop because of their shameful show of anger. If anything, they should expect more as there are many out there who'll continue to provoke and sit back to have fun watching them exhibit their primitive tantrums. In the future that we are heading into, attacks on religion of whatever form 'll only multiply. The best one need do is be at peace and let God. The truth is you don't fight (carry weapons) for God. Jesus Himself demonstrated this when He told Peter to sheath his sword after Peter had cut off someone's ear in an attempt to defend Jesus. You can't but admire Jesus! If I believe in the awe and omnipotence of God - the God I worship as a Christian; if in fact God is God, and I Know He is, then I'm rest assured that 'God is not mocked'. Do you (moslem) believe same? Sometime ago someone publish something titled 'The Dark Side of Jesus', to think that this same person lived among Christians and wasn't harmed...! Moslems must wake...what the heck... ...I must add though that I love Yoruba Moslems - they are the best. |
Like all other accidents on Nigerian roads this could've been avoided. When an accident involve a vehicle and a pedestrian on the road aside at a zebra crossing or on a pedestrian walk, it's always the pedestrian that takes the blame. Many questions need be answered for one to make an informed comment. RIP |
"Only foools destroy the infrastructure in their village because they hate the council chairman" It's so unfortunate...by the time northerners realize what is happening their society would have fallen behind the rest of the country by centuries. Boko Haram is a Frankenstein monster. |
An accessory, hmmmmnnn............ Mine is "accessories" 1. Padded bra (y u dey form say ur future big when na fakeee?) 2. Fake hair (abi no be accessory?) 3. Fake eyelashes (if i wan see masquerade, i for go my village) 4. Sun glasses @ night (WTF!!) 5. Fake accent (na accessory too but who u dey form 4?) 6. Wrapper early in the morning (wetin sef? Abeg go find cloth wear jhor) 7. Lip & eyebrow of many colors (i no know weda u wan take am win medal) 1 'll be disgusting if I get to know; 2 depends...; 3 I can't stand it; 5 In fact this is the worst; 7 I can't stand this too! ...and so many, what do they call it, yes, bangles on the wrists plus that chain around the ankles. So much for beauty! |
It's not anthems, coat of arms or the hoisting of flags that 'll cause the break up of Nigeria; it's a stiff-necked people's refusal to enshrine the practice of true federalism that 'll. |
@super1759 there's no longer any point discussing IBB's C-acts. His case has long been settled and nearly all know him for what he is. ok? The issue here is Buhari who some uninformed/misinformed persons seemed to think of as saintly. |
e don de happen ...end game scenarios...who makes the first mistake... I've always known anyway...but IBB 'll be the last nail on that coffin...such an "authority"! |
Korrection: UNA SURE SAY SEUN THE NAIRALAND OWNER NO DEY pHUCK THIS TONTO DIKE?....IF TONTO DIKE SH1T..NAIRALAND GO SEE AM..IF SHE MESS..WE GO SEE AM...IF SHE PHUCK WE GO SEE AM...WETIN DEY WORRY NL MODS SELF??I think you are a little too hard on them...Much as I understand and share your view, I was still curious see how she looked at childhood. Let's be honest! |
Our community have a saying that "when one refuses to pay to God, he or she will definitely not avoid paying to the devil". The point here is that when the Niger-deltans where clamouring peacefully for the development of their communities, the Nigerian state was busy hobnobbing with the oil companies and killing those who dared speak out.The oil companies themselves thought that with the government by their side there's 'no shaking'. Now, the Nigerian state and the oil companies 'll not only continue to make these payments but 'll forever be at the mercy of these militants and the ones yet unborn i.e. if they are interested in oil revenue. |
Except...2015 is a mirage. This conversation 'll continue in 2015. ![]() |
onila: someone;s comment...this "someone" should realise that just as death penalty 'll not stop the committing of capital offence, so also 'll the ostracising of abusers not stop abuse. The bottom-line should be whether the abuser has truly repented. |
...but why should you allow the public to decide whether you should reconcile with someone who'd hurt you? Whatever happens to our cherished virtue of forgiveness. I mean if a wife desire to rebuild a relationship with her husband who'd battered her, shouldn't we be praising her rather than rebuking? What do these "charities and organisations" really represent? Do they seek to institutionalize hatred in our societies? ...just wondering. |
gramci: You might have to wait till eternity. That's the point! |
gramci: North Korea in my mind.LOLs... |
...still waiting to hear a northern Governor cry over the allocation of niger delta oil blocks to some northern crooks... ...still waiting! ![]() |
Are you shedding tears for 13%? Wait until they claim 100% then you'll cry to stupor. ![]() South Sudan in mind! ![]() |
