bigtt76: Yes I'm aware in exchange for the service they offer to help build your credit as a new migrant, its ok by me. I was never aware of that despite spending days going through their website and being informed that there was no charge for their basic plan. I only became aware after signing up and seeing the £2.50 charge to my account for "membership fee", which I was never informed about before. I took that in good faith as I assumed that to be a one-off charge, but was shocked to see another charge a week later. For a "new migrant", do you think that paying an extra £10 every month is a reasonable expense just for the sake of building credit scores, when there are other expenses and bills to be taken care of? |

hustla: Try Monese credit builder for 3 months and then apply for the credit card (it runs for 1 year in total)
Would that require me to open a bank account? I already have 3 running and am hesitant about opening another 🙂 |

Santa2: @Tinyemeka Dont worry about your Transunion credit score, building credit is a cumulative process. Even after 2 years+ here my transunion score is still at 589 but my experian score is 957. I made sure got a contract line, converted my pay as you go to three contract, got a provisional license and registered to vote. Did all these because as at the time I was living in a flatshare so didnt have any other bills to my name. I also was reporting my rent payment through credit ladder. I applied a post office creditcard(capital one) and got approved for £500 only, after 5 month I applied for Amex and got approved for £15,000. My advise would be not to apply for another credit card yet. Make sure you do other neccesary thing to get your name into the system then apply again after sometime, at least a month or two after. Thanks. Yeah I've decided to stay off any credit card application for now. Would watch to see if my Loqbox subscription would have any positive impact on my scores. 589 after 2+ years?! There really must be something wrong with TransUnion's system of calculation. I've applied to switch my line from PAYG to contract. Bills were being handled by wifey, while I do rent but I will also be reporting the rent payment using CreditLadder now. Wish I'd started this when I landed, but all the same all is well. I'll watch to see how it goes in 2 months time. |

bigtt76: Nor run madt oooo
For your credit score to grow, you must have access to credit facilities either in form of utility bills paid or credits from credit card companies or credit score boosting apps.
Question a. Is your rent paid by bank transfer directly to the landlord's account? If yes, try setting up a standing order to execute same time every month b. How is your council tax or utility bills paid? Do you have Direct Debit set up on your account to debit it every month? Direct debits are reported to credit bureaus c. Look for Contract-SIM from any of the mobile networks (I use Virgin mobile) and port your current line to them, use direct debit to pay for this monthly. To call home you can use cheap call cards available in Tescos or ASDA etc d. How long have you been on the electoral roll?
Try the following
1. Place the embolden on standing order and use the following to report your rent payment to report the rent payment to credit agencies. 2. Credit Ladder sign up using my referral https://www.creditladder.co.uk/join/4kN2nMj0DmjpABDL), 3. Loqbox (sign up using my link https://www.loqbox.com/en_gb/loqbox-invite?referral_code=SZJ9DXFXHX&referral_channel=link) 4. Sign up for AMEX https://americanexpress.com/en-gb/referral/tEMItOhbvx?XL=MNANS 5. Try not to open too many bank accounts (are your accounts online banks or conventional banks) or close any already opened 6. You should sign up to Experian credit score platform and they have a 30 days trial with which you can use to guide and boost your scores
You can report previous payment as currently is if you make the transfer same time monthly. The apps would pick it up from your bank account. Thanks a lot dear. Have done as you advised. 🙏 |

Lexusgs430: I feel refreshed, after my Turkey holiday...... So annoiting still dey flow ........ 🦃 😜😂 Wehdone sir and welcome back. I'm running mad here. I've spent 4 months in the country and my TransUnion credit score is still in the mid-500's. My records are in the electoral register, have got 3 bank accounts that I run transactions through frequently. My wife landed long before me and I recently got added to the tenancy agreement. I've tried to apply for the AmEx credit card advertised by @Solumtoya and my request got declined (I'm sure because of my low credit score). I'm using a pay-as-you go mobile line (not contract). What else can I do to boost my credit score? Or at least how can I secure a credit card? An aside, I tried to sign-up for Rebtel to be able to call home cheaply, but couldn't because they said they don't support EE lines. Please do you know any other network that I could sign on a contract with my low score? Appreciate all your assistance and contributions on this thread. 🙌 |

I've recently been coming across different stories of people who after their work or studies, applied for Leave to Remain and got their applications declined and in one horror case, approved and later rejected. The commonest reason for these rejections being that they accessed Public Funds. Someone earlier on pointed out that they seem to deliberately make immigration laws vague enough to give themselves some wiggle room and leave many clauses open for different interpretations whenever they take their immigration decisions. I just prefer to be extra-cautious and play by their own rules. If I see anything that sounds like free, the first question that pops in my head is: Is it free for everyone? One of such "freebies" is the Free School Meals provided at school. Does Free School Meal fall under Public Funds that NRPF visa holders should be wary of? I headed over to gov.uk to investigate and this is what the website states: We have permanently extended free school meal eligibility to children in all households with no recourse to public funds (NRPF), subject to maximum income thresholds. Eligible groups These groups include, but may not be limited to children of:
Zambrano carers families who have no recourse to public funds with a right to remain in the UK on grounds of private and family life under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights families receiving support under Section 17 of the Children Act 1989 who are also subject to a no recourse to public funds restriction a subset of failed asylum seekers supported under Section 4 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 Chen carers families holding a BN(O) passport spousal visa holders work visa holders student visa holders those with no immigration status The maximum income threshold differs based on your location and the number of children that your family has.
Income thresholds Under the permanent extension of free school meal eligibility to all NRPF groups, the annual household income thresholds for those families able to work are:
£22,700 for families outside of London with 1 child £26,300 for families outside of London with 2 or more children £31,200 for families within London with 1 child £34,800 for families within London with 2 or more children Free School Meals are free, but not for everyone O! If you know your visa has "No Recourse to Public Funds" and your household income exceeds the criteria quoted above, please cast and bind every spirit of osho free that is trying to jeopardize your quest to build your life in the UK. What pissed me off was when I read further and saw that schools are even required to maintain a record of children who take the free meas. So there is a separate record for enrolled pupils different from the record of pupils on Free Meals. Recording eligible pupils You should record eligible free school meals pupils who qualify through the NRPF criteria in the termly school census, in the same way as all other free school meals pupils. "For audit purposes". You should retain evidence of the application including the self-declaration and any supporting documentation for usual audit purposes. This is being addressed to the schools. My County Council's Free School Meals application form has a field for the parent/carer's NIN, which can be used to verify income information. I feel it is much better to err on the side of caution and stay safe, than adopt a victim mentality when the chips are down. Stay safe. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/free-school-meals-guidance-for-schools-and-local-authorities/providing-free-school-meals-to-families-with-no-recourse-to-public-funds-nrpf#recording-eligible-pupils |

BA gave me 2 x 23kg, 12kg hand luggage plus my backpack. 12kg hand luggage plus backpack? That's great! Two kids and I. LOL. Ethiopian Airlines. I don't know if their policies have changed, but as at Sept '22, for each ticket you're entitled to: - 2 pieces of 23kg - 1 piece of hand luggage (7kg) - An extra 5kg luggage if you do an online check-in within 72 hours of your departure time I fully utilized every allowance offered |

rinzylee: Hahahaha....laughing out loud here. I had extra luggage of 23kg food alone
Abeg carry go jari....I'd repeat same when I return. I just can't eat the food here. I was selective while in Nigeria, it's worse here.
I flew through Abuja, I didn't really get so much scrutiny. The Hausa customs/immigration boss there...asked them to return all the money they took from me. I was shocked. Nigeria will be better!!!! Honestly, I do not doubt you one bit. The people there seemed quite nice compared to what I used to read online about airport security officials. In my case, I'd purchased 3 tickets and was a bit wary about using GMG bags based on what I'd read on this thread earlier on. A friend had to call someone working with the airline, who confirmed that I could fly with GMG bags. I also called the airline to confirm their baggage allowance and they told me that each ticket was entitled to 2 pcs of 23kg each in addition to 7kg carryon bags each. Bros my joy knew no bounds. To top it off, they still added an extra 5kg for me because I'd checked in online within 72 hours of departure. If you see me that day with all my kaya, you'd think that I had raided a Covid-19 warehouse that was hiding palliatives. |

Solumtoya: One more thing, please forgive my too much talk.
Please open a Lifetime ISA, and fund it with at least £1. Do it now and I will try and explain.
CONS: You can't take your money out of it without a 25% penalty unless you're retiring or paying for your first home or leaving the Country permanently, I think
PROS: Government gives you a 25% bonus up to £4,000 contribution. So if a Husband and wife put £4k each in March, they get £2k. If they put another £4k each in May (which is a new year), they get another £2k. So, in a space of few months, they just got £4,000 that they can use for their first home or retirement. Depending on your provider, you might even get more interests outside the 25%. (Mathematics). Thanks a lot for the exposé. I'm about to open a LISA on Moneybox and I'm always careful to avoid anything that smells like Public Funds, to avoid stories that touch. I need to confirm please: Hope the 25% bonus paid by the Govt to our LISA contribution will not be viewed as Public Funds? Thanks once again. |

satechexpress: Dear Redpiller,
I have a confession to make. I will like to share my experience with Filipina lady I docked sometimes ago when I was in diaspora.
She was older than me like 7yrs. We meet on this dating app call tinder… I have been holding this sex urge for long time… I do hv a gf back home tho…
To cut the long story short… I bleep this lady and she enjoyed it and always ask for more… but this lady own is too much, she always want to knack from night till dawn.
Plus she too dey love. To the extent that she went ahead to pick my naija gf phone number behind my back and told her to leave that she is the new owner now.
It was later that I kno that this Filipino lady just like sex naturally and she don even knack one niaja brother in the same flat.
to be continue later… It's 2:58am where I am now and I'm sitting 2 seats away from a Filipina (we're on night shift) that looks like one Chinese goddess and has one of the most British accents I've come across. I had to ask her if she was born here and she replied that she came into the country when she was 7. Extremely pretty babe with an equally gentle and kind disposition. And she happens to be one of the fastest workers here. I haven't seen that kind of combination in a Naija babe before. Honestly. |

lordsterlin: Dear Nairalanders,
My name is Preston and I am 36yrs this year. I really need help. For the past 35yrs of my life I have never bleeped a girl or woman. The only thing I've done in the past was just to kiss, kiss and kiss. Another thing I do is to help myself through wanking.
Recently, I've got a girlfriend (actually my first). She loves me obviously from her actions. Because I feared I may not be able to satisfy her, I went to buy a drug from a drugstore. The Man told me to take it atleast 10-15mins before the actual sex. I did as instructed but it didn't work as just few thrust, and my yogurts were out. Another day she came when I least expected her. I attempted to do it with her this time. I allowed myself lie while she mounted my rod. Again, just few thrusts, and I was done. This is becoming quite embarrassing.
What can I do to solve this problem? The drug was for what exactly? There is a difference between erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation and I suspect that you purchased drugs for the former, rather than the latter which you're battling with. Samsu oil (search on Jumia) takes care of extra sensitivity. |
