FamilyRe: My 16 Year Old Live-in Maid Is Pregnant For A 20 Year Old Boy by Tinyemeka(m): 12:39pm On Oct 30, 2022
DSS1335:
I will track down the boy and his family and file a statutory rape charge against them if all avenue to resolve this case peacefully fail. From Pregnancy to child care is no joke. My people that is no joke at all. I feel very bad and compassionate for the innocent young girl who will be forced to sacrifice her future to be in the family way.

Any honest advise on how best to tackle this issue at hand would be appreciated
You're on the right track.

In the meantime, hear what the girl's mother has to say. It's maternal instinct that made her say you should send her daughter back to her. Don't send the girl back to the village yet, until you've settled the case with the boy.

I don't know what the outcome will be when you meet with the boy's parents, but at the end of the day (if I'm to give my little advice) let the boy not be "forced" to marry the girl. The boy is obligated to be responsible for his actions. So ask his parents what they are going to do about it. They might deny responsibility, then let them know that you have no option than to involve the police and treat it as a rape case.

At the end of the day, we are all looking for a peaceful resolution that will be favourable to all parties.

If the girl's mother is okay with taking care of the baby, all glory be to God. Her daughter will still grow up to achieve her potential. Only God knows what the baby will grow up to be in the future, but in these few years that I've lived on earth, I've seen cases like these, and the children turned out very fine and doing well. Let the girl continue with her education. The boy and his family has to be made responsible for the upkeep of the baby.

Whatever you do, let them not take only the baby and leave the girl. They are either in or out. If they're accepting the baby, they should also accept the girl.

It is well.

There's nothing as horrible as listening to a newly-arrived Nigerian putting on a fake accent. It's excruciating to hear. Please don't do that to yourself and the general public.

Regarding speaking, aim to speak like the broadcasters on NTA. Modulate your voice and enunciate clearly. That's what I do. Your accent is
there and will always remain there, and it's nothing to be ashamed of or to worry about.

P.S. When I speak of broadcasters, I'm referring to those who people of my generation who used to watch NTA would be familiar with. Be sure to avoid speaking like those strange radio DJs on Cool or Classic FM in Lagos who try to form strange hybrid accents which are neither fish nor fowl.
grin grin grin grin

Kuku kee me.

I really do not wish to form the accent, honestly. I've already made the decision to do just as you wrote - speak and enunciate the words clearly. Posh accent can wait. So help me God.

I know the broadcasters you were referring to: Cyril Stober, Eugenia Abu, et al.

Income tax is the UK is over 60% for high income earners so even if they pay you high wages, the government will collect most of the money as tax and leave you just ok.

On the contrary, company tax is very low at 19% so it pays companies to not give their money to employees as the government would collect most of it.
LOL.

It was in this same UK that I got to know that someone could work as an independent contractor for a firm, earn wages as a "registered company" and avoid those >40% tax liabilities. See off-payroll working and IR35.

One has got a lot of things to learn sha. With time.

I'm sure of at least two NLers in this thread... smiley

The accent thing might be in your head actually, this is the least of their worry unless they have a bias which I doubt. So you might be over thinking it. The fact that you are getting interviews means you are doing something right. You can hit up my inbox so we can speak further on scaling the interview process. I’m currently in this process as well and it has been exciting.

I don't think you need to change your accent. However you need to understand that Nigerian English is a lot different from British English, from phrasing down to pronounciations.

i.e.
Nigerians: "They are telling me I did well!"
British: "They've said I did well"

or
Nigerians: "I have spent years doing retail banking in Nigeria"
British: "In Nigeria, I spent several years working in retail banking"

Thos are the areas of speech you need to be mindful of when trying to communicate. We Nigerians tend to talk fast as well so that is another area to focus on if you want to be understood by your colleagues.
Very well noted. Thanks a lot.

I've also made a conscious effort to slow down a bit while talking, most especially during the interviews.

Hi ya.

I'd spent years doing retail banking in Nigeria. Landed in the UK recently (not study visa) but want to make a career switch to Project Management (still a beginner and currently studying for PRINCE2 Foundation).

Have been applying to Admin roles to get a foot in the door. Have done two interviews so far and they're telling me I did well (currently awaiting their official feedback) but I'm not finding it funny (maybe it's the JJC in me). People have been saying you should not be bothered about your accent, as long as you speak clearly (which I've been doing so far) but I fear that it might be a drag actually and picking up the British accent has been a hassle to me.

Any pointers with regards to the PM career pursuit? huh

Sorry I just felt to rant. I dey find morale booster. undecided

Big bro, you've reignited my long throat spirit.

I've been eyeing penny stocks lately for their uncanny ability to easily give good returns with the slightest change in price and given the general downturn in prices, this period looks like a good time to buy and hold. After proper investigation and due diligence of course.

Look at Global Atomic Corp.

These four are all nuclear energy companies.

Flight tickets are on the rise. Please, will a friend need transit visa if they board Kenya / turkish airline?
As long as there are no layovers in the EU countries (I'm aware of Germany, France, The Netherlands), then a transit visa is not required.

Turkish Airlines doesn't require transit visas for stopovers in their country, if you have no plans of leaving the airport and entering into the city.

You can use travelstart to search for flights. The website specifies flights that would require transit visas.

Cheers.

Resting in London? What a very foolish excuse.
Quite impossible to defend the sick old bat without sounding stupid.
The more I look at it, I somehow get the feeling that people who defend Tinubu, are just in a hurry to cashout from the man and collect their share, before he croaks.

Honestly, it defies logic to think that Tinubu in his current state of health can survive the rigours of election campaign but some people will never let you say that.

Now you have this handler saying that Tinubu ran to London in order to escape disturbances at Abuja and Lagos. If he's not strong enough to face the campaign work, how can he then handle being the president which will constantly require him to be on call 24/7?

Please let's be wise about this election matter and listen to our consciences for once. I'm pretty sure that the international community would be laughing their asses off when they view the way people agitate for Tinubu being the country's president, in his current health state. It makes us no different from Zimbabwe.
