Santa2: @tizzdi People usually do it the other way round, school in leeds and live in bradford, thats because bradford usually have cheaper accomodation than leeds. That said, I know a family that did it, wife was schooling in bradford but they decided to stay in leeds since her classes was only twice a week (Bradford to leeds is about 40 mins bus ride.) Hubby was able to bag a fantastic job in Leeds of over 60k, he had extensive banking experience from Nigeria.
If you looking for apartment in leeds and you a student, try unipol, they are a charity that support student with low cost accomodation, although I believe most of the places might already be taken up,
semmyk: Infosec (especially now with the loose term cybersecurity) is wide, vast and varied: technical, nontechnical, management There different entry points. On 22k matter, which I've steer clear of, 'infosec' comes in various sizes and shades. However, even the low levels point toward accelerated upward trajectory (salary, career wise) PS : certification goes a long way, certification alone might not do the bidding. Inbtw, give Privacy or information governance especially those relating to UK DPA and GDPR roles. Sponsorships might be easier with universities, NHS... NB : someone posted a link to a 'hands-on' training site sometimes back. Can't seem to locate it. Disclaimer: this is not a binding advice in law.
TheGuyFromHR: Try and find a way to insert yourself, even if it's at the periphery and work your way to where you can. Areas like information governance and privacy, data protection, moving on to DPO (not Nigeria police o), you could then segue into infosec at some level, maybe. I write some JDs and the pay is good for those areas, even though they're not considered pure IT/tech roles.
Not everyone can do pure tech, we all have different abilities, for instance, I can barely count, hate Excel with a passion (still learning that program after all these years), and don't even know how I managed to get through training school when I got my bank job. Payroll stuff gives me nightmares when the spreadsheets land in my inbox.
The areas I mentioned above are for people like me who are most comfortable dealing with words, not numbers. I function best when dealing with policies, firing off emails and answering the sometimes inane queries from employees (HR here is in many ways not very different from it is in Naija, sometimes employees bring the craziest kinds of stuff to us). You see what you can do to upskill in an area you can manage. You might be surprised to find there's something within your abilities that will fetch you the figures you named above.
LOL. I even fall within the range of people who love and use Excel.
Thanks a lot for the insight. Would definitely investigate that option.
egunna: avoid the food.stay out late but don't cheat pls.u cud get an hotel room, pass d nite at random and don't give any explanation.keep her in suspense, let her guess ND she wud come to her senses.
It's a "reason"able woman who might cum to her senses.
A vibrating woman would just assume he's cheating on her and decide to up her own game too. With far worse ramifications.
Solumtoya: I was avoiding giving out personal details but here you go: Within two months of arriving on a Student-dependant visa, I got two offers of £40k, I had to renegotiate and increased the other to £50k and accepted. I rejected Huboo's offer. Won't mention the name of the one I accepted. I have long left that job for a better one.
My friend who is a student that came last year has gotten a Permanent offer with a Financial institution for £50k and Visa Sponsorship. Due to his student status, he works just 3 times a week till he graduates next month and he will start working full-time. Another friend is a student of a 2-year course he only started in January but got an offer with HSBC last month.
I see your point but I want to correct your notion.
Abeg sama me testimony! You didn't give out any personal details biko.
The only job recommendations my Mrs has been feeding me with are HCA roles despite my years of retail banking experience (I no blame am na wetin full her work area), but a friend of mine who landed barely 2 years ago (started as Band 3 Project Support and is currently a PM with a private company while also doing part-time with the NHS) has been telling me to bullshit that HCA line and consider PM roles.
Honestly, I'm open to as much advice I can get on various job options to enable me make a well-informed decision and plot my next career path.
I don't mean to sound denigrating towards any career please.
If some people can land (not on a student visa) and start at £35,000 - £40,000, who am I to say I'm not interested in partaking.
Please some of us are very much interested in pursuing these roles and would like to know how to fit in upon landing. Not everyone is destined to start as an HCA. No offense meant.
MichaelUde: My brother, No vex, but you didn't google at all. You will find the link in exactly 30 seconds if you do. It's clearly on the gov.uk page, even though Tier 2 don change name. Try again. Remember say they have told us that we need to up our game so that we won't be making peanuts of 22k, so that means moving to the tech industry.
As our brain no too sharp like before, how we wan take break into this tech industry bikonu?
I also want to join and be doing £400-£500 a day too.
wonlasewonimi: Nowadays, all these things don't mean much to me. I quoted dupyshoo cos I believe we are in the same line and she can bear me witness. The typical day rate is about 600 and then you realise its just money. If you are even lucky and you work remotely you could add another making £1200 a day. What I am trying to say is that I will never say to someone earning even minimum wage that they are on shyte pay cos our paths are not the same and not everyone will be in tech.
iamme1234: This obituary to My own point is a clueless man. He has no single experience to rule a state talked of a country. The only man fit for this shoe is tinubu jagaban The Baba to all Igbos The man that transform Lagos that is like opiweka to Canada. Same Lagos Igbos are dieing not to leave. Vote jagaban of our time The baba to all Igbos grand fathers. Mind you Why una no Dey talk about kanu again Chai aye ma nika ooo
What experience then does your candidate now have, since both of them are ex-governors and you say the experience was a clueless one?
PO has been in the business of trade, Executive Management and public service.
Tinubu's business meanwhile has been to set up businesses that generate revenue by taxing governments and the common masses (Alpha Beta Company, LCC, skimming 1.5% off any money that Nigerians pay to the government through TSA/Remita and so many other shenanigans).
He goes into politics for personal enrichment of himself. He started by awarding crazy and unreasonable pension for life to himself after leaving the government house. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough for him, so he went a step further by sucking from the nation's commonwealth by using his political connections to now tax ALL Nigerians through Remita.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely and that is why money in bullion vans no longer appeal to him. He now wants the entire commonwealth of Nigeria in his pocket!
My brother, please be wise nau.
Do you really believe that somebody who is willing to spend trillions just to win the presidency has good intentions for the people by the time he assumes the office? For every Kobo he's spending now, he plans to collect it back from us in many folds.
PO on the other hand has said that our leaders are just borrowing and burning money without any positive impact to show on the people. Now he wants to show leadership by example and turns out country into one of production.
Who now do you think in your heart of hearts should be the better option?
Oracleforce: I promise you with just 5k each these poverty-looking people will change their minds...miney will mobilize some people back to vote for Tinubu or Atiku...
If money can make some people change their religion, his much more ordinary voting...
Peter Obi is not representing any youth...he is representing himself and his family...
festacman: In Nigeria, the victory at the presidential polls is sum total of the effort of local political heavyweights in their wards and constituencies. That's structure. Does Labour Party or Peter Obi Campaign Organization has local political influencers all over Nigeria? Even the negative tendency of vote buying still require structure to accomplish.
Another major challenge facing Peter Obi is that he is the sole financier of his presidential bid. And presidential campaign sure requires massive funding with substantial leakages caused by people who would collect money without doing assigned task. Can Peter Obi open up his wallet wide when winning is not 100%?
You are coming from the viewpoint of the regular Nigerian politics. But people are saying they are no longer going to go the old political way.
As for funding, why do you confidently claim that he's the sole financier of his political bid, when a lot of people are queuing to donate to his campaign, I inclusive?
donjazet: Watch this video and see why this man should be our next president. Nigerians please I beg you, don't surrender your futures to people who just want to be presidents for the sake of their egos. We need men of vision. Let go labour.
I she'd tears because I could imagine what we could become if this visionary of a man is elected president.
True leadership flows from top to bottom. If you have the right minds at the top, there is a high probability of such efficiency flowing down to the general populace.
Please and please, I used to think that Nigeria is a list cause, but my hope of a better country is being renewed, now that I've seen the quality of Peter Obi.
He's not a regular Nigerian politician who is just after personal enrichment.
Please give him a chance and vote for him to make this country the giant again.
Ticha: Have you considered NZ or Australia? Be warned that it is very very far from anywhere else. I always say NZ is what Nigeria would be like if it was classed as developed. It has lots of developing country vibes and attitudes and of course lots of opportunities for everyone. Once you have international experience, the world is your oyster! A work to residency visa gives you residency after 2 years and PR after 2 years so 4 years in total. Salaries are good (husbot and I have both doubled our UK wages) which will be frustrating for us when we return to the UK in 2 years time. It also has a small emerging Nigerian community (less than 1000 of us o!)
With Israel Adesanya among you guys, make that 2,000 Nigerians.
Regex: Biko nu, who is living in Taunton UK, I want to know how life is for Blacks there. Are they receptive to blacks or make I run? Justwise, Lexusgs430 etc... Anybody
LOL.
Something tells me you moved there yesterday or would be doing so on May 9th.
