Hi Dr. Kathy, Happy and prosperous new year to you.May the  year 2010 bring your way all the good things you desire. Long live our dear doctor, long live Nairaland!

Is there any risk associated with  much sweating in a baby? Since Ive had my baby he's been sweating a lot. In short he sweats more than both of us his parents put together. People Ive asked keep saying 'eeehn, he's going to be big, that's why he sweats so much , blah-blah!'. Ive always forgotten to ask his doctor when we visit him but in the meantime let me hear your opinion. I do hope all is well with him oh. Thanks for usual support. kiss

Av always been interested in the barbing businesss. I hope to start one in a not too far future. But the daily proceeds of N4,000 is not feasible except on weekends/public holidays or what do you think?

The rental business too I love but one must have a vehicle to transport them you know? undecided undecided

FamilyRe: He Dont Know How To Ask His Mother This, Plz Help by titilaelae(f): 11:16am On Nov 13, 2009
It's wrong to conclude the father does not care about his existence. Who knows whether the mother has lied to the supposed father that the child died or his pregnancy was aborted. We are all making assumptions here. I think it's in order to want to find out who one's father is.

@ Poster, tell your friend to calmly approach his mum one evening when they are both in a relaxed mood, after he has poured words of admiration and appreciation on her for loving him and taking care of him to date, and gently tell him he wants to know who fathered him. Am sure the woman must have been expecting this. He should not expect a definite and positive response but let him ask first! Goodluck.

I also learnt a few things from my popsey. His own type of cooking is the sharp sharp style and they taste horrible. Sprinkle a little garri in the water on fire to make it boil faster. At the end of the day eba will have lumps and the colour will be light. YUCK. You also need to see his watery vegetables with too much pepper, the types that will make you shit.

volasunkan:
I recommend Lagos Island Maternity, its the premier and still the best Standard maternity hospital in West Africa.
Supported. Alternatively, try Ayinke House, also government run,.It's in the heart of Ikeja.

I HAD MY BABY AT CRYSTAL SPECIALIST HOSPITAL, private though but almost run like government hospital, come and see plenty of  pregnant women of different shapes and sizes on antenal clinic days (Tue & Fri)!!!! shocked shocked The MD is an elderly seasoned Gynaecologist and is assisted by several other Gynae docs. I can recommend Crystal any day. kiss kiss kiss

And instead of stopping and asking pregnant women, why not ask women with babies? At least they have something to show for it and should be proud to recommend the maternity home they used. grin

Do have a hitch-free delivery, mate kiss

Take heart, friend. Bible says in the book of Job, that you shall forget your misery, and remember it as water that passed away. Your age shall be clearer than the noonday. You shall shine forth; you shall be as the morning. You shall be secure because there is hope for you and you shall take your rest in safety. I feel your pain, cry cry cry cry but not to worry Dearie, God who made me a mother after several miscarriages will give you a testimony SOON. He will even give you multiple for all the delay. Titilaelae, is there any possibility that you have introduced something new to your baby. Change of washing powder, animals in the house. Catarrh and cough could be signs he is reacting to something. Check around you first that there is no new allergen around
Thanks Doc, but there really was nothing new except his meal - introduced millet pap (some friends spoke highly of its nutritional value) and after one week the symptoms were noticed but am not too sure if that was the cause.

However, drugs given so far were: Athesunate powder then Artemether (for fever) The latter was administered when symptom persisted after the former.

For cough and cattarh he took Broncholite (Bromhexine hydrochloride, throtal (brand of erythromycin) (all were prescribed by a doctor). Just wondering if all these are not too much for a 6month old. Personally I wish babies don't have to take drugs!!. Thanks a lot.

Thanks Doc, but nothing really changed except his meal. Symptoms were noticed shortly after I introduced millet pap to him (which I heard from other mums to be highly nutritious). Immediately symptoms were noticed I quickly changed to cereal (formular) which I've since sustained so he's not too excited about it.

Drugs taken so far: Athesunate powder for fever then later Therameter (Artemether)(oral suspension). For cough/cattarh he was given Broncholite (bromhexine hydrochloride) and Throtal (brand of erythromycin)(also oral suspension). Some iron syrup. Just wodering if all these drugs are not too much for a baby wink - personally I wish infants don't have to take drugs!! cry Thanks.

No animal in the house and the washing powder is neither new. His meal was the only thing new. It actually started shortly after I introduced millet pap to him and when I noticed it I stopped and started giving him cereal (formular) which he reluctantly takes. Well, yesterday was the 5th day after he started his medication and I noticed overnight that his condition improved, cough became softer and cattarh drier.
Now, the drugs: Broncholite (|Bromhexine hydrochloride) (2) Throtal (brand of erythromycine) (powder for oral suspension). He initially took Athesunate powder and later Theramether artemether for fever. Just wondering if all these drugs are not too much for a 6month old wink. Thanks a bunch.

Dr. Balogun, thanks for holding forth for Dr. Kathy. On behalf of everyone I implore you to pls get in touch with her and find  out how she's doing. I trust God it is well with her. Pls let her know we miss her and wish her well.

In the meantime, kindly tell me what to do, my 6month old baby has suffered cattarh and cough for over 3weeks now. The cough is very strong overnight and at dawn. We've been to hospital 3 times and it hasn't improved. The boy has emaciated so much and am at my wits end. Am not seeing the effect of the drugs administered though I'v been advised to complete the dosage. Natural health experts advise against giving honey or lime to babies under one year or I'd have given as that's what I use for adult's cough. Pls advise. (Tomorrow I'll post the names of the drugs he's taken so far)Thanks

@ All,
Bible says when God turned the captivity of Zion, they were like them that dream! I've passed through the ttc road before and I know how it feels. Not to worry, dearies, the Lord who made me a mother will visit u too.

In my own case it was fibroid I was battling with and I thank God for making me overcome it without surgery. In other words, I don't know what to say about stuff like hormone imbalance, hot flushes etc but whatever the challenges are, I pray that God will connect you with the doctor that will address it and soon too. From now I'll start praying 4 u. Cheers, sisters.
man thats tough u can always call the police or child protective services. She's young and probly dont know much about parenting. Maybe talk to her first if nothing changes make that call. If they take the child away , i mean i would feel bad for her but you got to think about that child first
The fact that she is young and doesn't know abt parenting is not an excuse. Why isn't she cruel to herself because she's young and immature? Its obvious she doesn't need the child. huh

@Poster, you've done well by the move you made. I pray the authority takes custody of the child so he can have a meaningful life.

Poster All u need is some gud encouragment as 'surgery' is the best option. I had my younger sis removed hers late last year. Just endeavour to seek the hand of a professional doc. I'll advice u use a private hospital.
Why private hospital? Doctors in government hospitals aren't good in removing apendicits? Pls educate us.

My friends 4yr old son was showing off to his dad his mum's unused sanitary pad.

"Daddy, daddy, come and see my Mummy's PAMPERS!" It's small, Seun's own is big than mummy own!!! (Seun is his little sister).

Funny and interesting world of kids!

My little niece and I once engaged in the following conversation

Me: Lope, how old are you?
Tomi: I'm 3years old
Me: How old am I?
Tomi: You are 6 years old'
Me: No, am older than 6
Tomi: Ok, you are 7

(When I said 'No' she kept increasing it by 1yr and by the time she got to '10' I was bored and I said

Me: Tomi, how can I be 10yrs old, can't you see how big I am? She kept quite for about a minute and I guess she did some mental calculation she looked up to me and said with excitement

Tomi: "Aunty, you are BIG years old'!!! shocked shocked shocked
