The best one can do is to pray that our loved ones do not fall into the situation where we have to rely solely on government hospitals for treatment.

Its not as if treatment is completely free there nah. The major reason why most people go there for treatment is the availability of specialists/experts/sophisticated equipment which is lacking in many private hospitals. Here in Nigeria, when a gynaecologist establishes his own private clinic, he will still be attending to  patients with cancer, diabetes, and other ailments not so relevant to his field. But in a government hospital you will always be referred to the appropriate department/doctor where your specific ailment can be best treated. 

Besides, have you heard of private hospitals owners who are fetish  so that they will have patients? I know of 2 who are well known in their neighbourd for diabolically provoking accidents along the road they are located so that victims will be brought to them for treatment!!!

However, there are still well equiped and well meaning private hospitals but you've got to be pretty loaded to pay their bills .

These and many other reasons are such that make people patronise government hospitals in spite of the torment they go through before they receive treatment. 

Now I say 'Amen' to Jinix' prayer that we won't have cause to solely rely on government hospitals for treatment.  I also hope with Cemcykul that government will do much more in providing better healthcare services. In addition, NGOs, religious bodies and individuals can do something to support this call. Honestly when my money comes, that is the kind of place I'D love to sow. So help me God

Gosh, they don't know what they are  missing. It's an interesting watch, especailly for business minded peeps Perhaps it would have attracted more responses in the business section.

The situation you described is not peculiar to Children Ward at LUTH. It's a common scenario at ALL government hospitals (state or federal) I've been to in Lagos. Patients troop to these hospitals because of availabilty of specialists and they end up having their hands too full, consequences of which is what you've experienced! Unfortunately several lives are lost on a daily basis which could otherwise have been spared if the hospitals had fewer patients that their equipment could cater for/wards could accommodate. 

Last week, a friend who felt surgery is safer in a government hospital  was   booked for February 2009  because all the other days before then had been booked already.  The generator  is being overused because of epileptic power supply and many times emergency cases override existing appointments (which means my friend's surgery may eventually take place in May!)  You can imagine if the ailment is such that can kill her before the appointed date. Needless to say that helpless patients in turn resolve to arranging to visit the doctor in his private clinic (afterall na di same doctor) and we all know what that means


The last time I was at General Outpatient Clinic at LASUTH, come and see people!!! Even though there were about 5 doctors attending to patients at the same time, I did not leave until 2.30 or thereabout. Because of the long queue, doctors are usually in a hurry to finish with each patient and they sometimes don't do proper diagnosis.

What is the solution? Honestly I don't know. Lagos State Government is trying its best in the area of health care . However,  it's best is not good enough. I wish those who chose to donate money towards Obama's election success could do similar thing to improve the condition of our government hospitals. :

I think they are sincere. Why would they be wasting their time on air if they are not willing to part with their money? They have to scrutinise the applicants very well before they strike a deal nah. Some of those guys who bring their proposals are not so 'well-packaged'. We all can see how the dragons pick holes in their proposals. Though am yet to see anyone that sailed through,  I  believe anyone who can convince them will get their support.

If I appeared once and missed it I'd go back to the drawing board. Good enough they let you know where your flaws are, then I'd go and re-package.  ^{I hope one is allowed to present more than once anyway.}

@Poster, do not expect a doctor to have answer to your every question at his/her fingertips. Next time, instead of desperately waiting for doctor's response, just google search the drug/topic you have issues with and you'll have various write ups on your topic. Goodluck to you

My last experience was at NTA Staff Canteen/Restaurant at VI. My change was short by N90 and with the long queque I might not have had time to re-calculate but I managed to step aside and carefully do my own thing. I called the cashier's attention to it and 'kiakia' she gave me the balance! Which account I for record that one, eh?

I would have actually posted this long before  it started but for the sheer folly of it. I found it ridiculous and I didn't think my source was reliable enough.  One of my colleagues is an indegene of Ota and going by what he said, it's an age-long festival that used to last for three months  but has now been reduced to 15 days. In the first three days, apart from  pregnant residents, any pregnant passer-by stands the chances of losing the pregnancy (age 0-9months ) In addition  any infant who dares to cry within  those first three days  will instantly die. That explains why those people had to flee.Furthermore, anything hung on the wall, photo frame, calendar, clocks or anything hung on  a wall rack must fall at the cry of Mr. Oro. That was why those people had to flee for their dear lives. But the 3 'dangerful' days have passed now. Those who fled their homes can now return. The ritual is restricted to midnight to 4am.

@Poster, so where did Madam eventually have her baby in 2006? You forgot to carry us along, eh? We need to know how good or otherwise  our Naija hospitals are for childbirth nah. I wake suddenly from some dreams and they appear so real to me, I 're-play' them, pray over and record them in my notebook.

I wake up normally from sleep and in the course of my morning duties I remember I dreamt.I might have been done with the morning prayer, yet I go over it, put the pieces together and still pray in my heart. Wherenever I find time during the day I record it.

Some dreams come in mumbo-jumbo, no head no tail. Some of them are quite ridiculous. I give such no thought. Not all dreams are instructive.

Like Truserve wrote, some dream will come repeatedly, the dreamer needs not to be told that that kind needs serious attention.

The type to take serious will leave an impression. You may or may not remember immediately. When you remember you'll begin to wonder whether it was a dream or it happended in real life, it usually impresses on your mind. What can you do? As for me I don't believe in seeking interpretation to my dreams from others. I just pray, using my lilttle faith. I've missed it many times though. By and large, anytime you dream and it follows a sequence, whether it's good or bad, just pray over it and if it's instructive, follow it.

Really? Are there stuffs like shoe freshner?Pls tell me about them. Am not doing this behind his back, he knows am reporting him to the world(www)! He doesn't mind though, he admits he needs help nah .

Now let me  mention two of my dreams that (almost)came   to pass:

1) Some years ago, I dreamt that a friend I'd known way back in sec. school ran mad. She was completely insane. I woke up and ignored the dream. To me it couldn't ever come to pass. However, I shared it with another friend, prayer partner kind of. We didn't make it a serious point of prayer but we prayed it off all the same. Approximately 3yrs later this lady started misbehaving and this lasted for 2solid years before she recovered. I bit my fingers in regret and wept. I wished I had gone extra miles in prayer. As a compensation I made sure I was instrumental to her healing process, that was the least I could do.

2) I dreamt my mother died  and was being buried. In the middle of the night I woke up and prayed hard. The week that followed that,  my father died!!! Wished I'd prayed for both of them!

I have a long list to prove that dreams should be taken seriously oh.

Some of them you must take them serious because it might be god warning you of soemthing as he sometimes speaks through dreams. in most cases if is a terrible dream he must be telling you to pray in order to prevent such situation to happen to you or your friend.

I agree with you. It depends on the dreamer and sometimes the dream itself. In my case, I've learn't to be taking my dreams serious after  experienceing some calamities I could have averted if I'd   taken heed of my dreams that forewarned me. Needless to say  I now have a writing pad and pen by my bedside where I daily record my dreams - good or bad, even nightmares. I pray over them, claiming the good ones and canceling the bad ones. And my dreams are usually clear and easy to  interprete.

Most times, dreams    come as warning of events to come. Fortunately or unfortunately some people just sleep and wake, they do not dream, no qualms. For those who do, we don't have to be obsessed/worried  by our dreams but it's always good to commit them to God.

Eat green veggies. If you can find Ugu leaves, squeeze out the juice (don't add water) and drink. It's very strong and may make you feel dizzy but never mind. It's a very, very rich source of iron.

What is the cause of  bad smell emiting from some men's shoes? There's this guy I share the same office with and he has a particular pair of shoes that smell like 'ogiri'   (know what that means?) and it envelopes the whole office!  His other shoes are ok, save that one.

Do you guys know what he can do to rid the shoes of the bad smell?

It's obvious your friend's husband has something up his sleeve. A typical Nigerian man of 42yrs  must be highly interested in baby-making.  Doesn't he consider the wife's age and the attendant risk of late child bearing? If the wife has never conceived once since 4yrs of marriage am afraid the guy may have fertility (or is it sterility) issues or has deliberately done some kind of family planning.It's also possible he has another wife and child/ren elsewhere. If I were that wife, I would just put it to him one day that I missed my period and watch his reaction. If he's not excited and acts as  if he doesn't believe me then I'd know I've been trapped and inform his parents.
