@biggtt76

I was looking for information about the UK provisional driving license, so I had to go back to older posts and saw your comment on how you went back and forth with DVLA on your application.

Please I recently applied for the provisional driving license, I received a form via post from them today to fill. My issue is, do I have to put my original passport or BRP in the return envelope cos that's where I'm not comfortable with and they said they don't want photocopy.

Could you please guide me through this?

Response from others here will be appreciated.

Are you saying I can drive in the UK with a valid Nigerian licence, even without the international driver's license? Also, does it matter if I've been in the UK for over a year?

The normal Nigerian License is actually sufficient

Thanks for sharing this!

I just called UKVI and the person I spoke to said the same thing.

You have the make the full IHS payment to cover the period you're applying for, but they will automatically refund the unused period of the previous overlapping visa.
It's still not clearly stated on the website (I prefer to have evidence in black and white) but it's safe to conclude this is the way it is.

I didn't know this was possible, and it's a great relief.

Please, is this refund automatic? I'm asking because I switched from student visa with about 9 months left, and I haven't received any refund after almost three months of switching. Can you assist with the number you called please?

Sorry about your experience. The golden rule is to arrive there before 7am. I had my biometrics appointment fixed for 9am last Friday, but arrived there at 6.30am, and was number 13. I was out of there by 10.30am.
Evagreenfields:
HI all,

I just wanted to rant small on my passport biometrics experience at Nigeria Commission, London.

My appointment time was for 11 am today (04.04 23). I arrived there right on time, thinking tops, 2 hours to conclude and leave. After the checks at the entrance, I was given number 3** but once I entered the waiting room, omo, see crowd. They were just receiving documents for number 220 and I was in the mid 300 range. I sha waited until about 1.30 before my documents were collected, this was just stage 1.

After this, to move to stage 2 became war. I observed some people who did not even do the stage 1 submission going straight to enrolment based on IMM (ahh, ayemi temi)! Children were so uncomfortable, crying and wailing up and down, and I definitely wouldn't blame them. After what seemed like an eternity, and after the 'fast track' people were serviced, right about 3.30pm, the coordinator incharge then decided to go back to the order of numbers given at the start and things started moving slowly.
I didn't get called until about 4.30 (for an 11am appointment). My heart went out to those who had to travel back to Wales, Scotland etc same day and had booked their flight/train.
I eventually captured and left the commission at about 5.07pm.
Morale of the rant: you can leave Nigeria but Nigeria will always follow you everywhere you go

*END OF RANT*

Ps: to make your experience slightly better, pls go with the following documents
1. Your C4 special delivery envelope (buy from the post office) cost about Ā£6.85
2. Your 20 pound postal order addressed to the high commission (check their website for the correct addresse)
3. Your NiN print out (must match your passport name and order)
4. Your passport payment slip
5. Your acknowledgement form

The above is correct as at today Apr 4, 2023.

no oo.. i didn't have to.. the email just dropped .. they pitied me lol

They didn't even backdate the dates.. so now my new BRP will take me way past 5years..

I guess i can apply for ILR as at 5years right? i dont have to use the entire years as stated in the new BRP

I am not sure how that works actually, as it's my first spousal visa application. I however think they count 5 years pre-ILR period from the date your spousal visa was first approved. Make our senior ogas answer sha.

Thank you. I'm just concerned because this employer won't accept me on anything apart from a work visa or spousal visa,n hence I have to apply for tier 2 or lose the job, since I can't work for them full time on a student visa. I'm also not sure they're willing to let me start on student visa after graduation and waiting for spousal visa.
Bourne007:
You can 'vary your application' at any time by making a different application. You are better off on a spousal visa though

Travel / Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by tobbyoladejo: 6:20pm On Mar 12, 2023
From this experience, can I conclude that I can also do something similar? I have a spousal visa application pending too as I'm trying to switch from student visa, but I have the chance to get a tier 2 visa through an employer. Can I just apply for tier 2 and cancel spousal visa based on that, as the employer won't take me on a student visa?
CheesyTee:
I didn't withdraw my application. HR issued another COS and I submitted a new application without withdrawing the first.

I was asked if I have a pending application, I selected yes and provided the application number for it. Old application was nullified

Good day elders. Please is there a phone number to call or an email to ask for updates from UKVI on UK spousal visa application made inside the UK? I applied in November to switch to spousal visa based on my wife's citizenship, and my previous biometrics was used, while I was sent an email to upload supporting documents. However, I have not gotten any decision or request for more documentation. Gov.uk states a processing time of 8 weeks since I applied inside the country, which is already past, and there's no specific number to contact. The one I called was saying something about the Ukraine scheme taking time and decision times for other visa applications being affected. I don't know how else to get in touch for updates.

renewal with more than 6 months on it is most times tricky. Is the data page totally defaced? U can take a trip to the High Commission to check as 250 pounds is a lot of money or wait till when itā€™s about to expire
It's not totally defaced. It's just a part of the passport photograph on the datapage that is cloudy, hence you can't see my full face clearly except you look closely. I intend to apply for a Schengen visa in like two months, that's why I'm concerned about if it will be an issue at the French embassy.
Travel / Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by tobbyoladejo: 2:07am On Jan 04, 2023
Thank you so much for the reply. I have a photocopy of the page from while it was still perfect, and other pages are still perfect. I'm just concerned it may not be accepted during any visa application. I can't exactly afford paying Ā£250 minus the original cost of a new passport right now. Please can anyone who has had a similar situation in the UK respond? I'll really appreciate it. Thanks.
AlakeOfEngland:

I am not certain if you can apply for passport renewal with 15 months remaining on your current passport. Typically, it is recommended to renew a passport when there are six months or less remaining before it expires. However, there may be a system in place for renewing a passport with more than six months remaining, but it may require paying a higher fee. I know of two people who renewed their passports in Nigeria with between 10-12 months remaining, but I do not have information on how they were able to do so. They told me there is a mechanism for such and all they did was pay a higher fee.

Regarding the postal order, the information provided is correct. In the UK, you will need to pay a fee of Ā£250 by postal order to replace a damaged or lost passport. It may be helpful to seek input from individuals who have successfully renewed their passports in the UK with more than six months remaining on their current passports.

Do you have a photocopy of your passport photo page with you? The new passport pages are laminated so I am sure there's no room for moulds again. Cheers!

You don't need to reschedule again if you have started the process. A similar thing happened to me and I just returned to finish it off another time. The security won't stop you and if they did just tell them you are a returnee applicant and they will allow you to enter. Also, do start from the group floor. Just go to that woman and she will clear you to go for your biometric. Cheers
Please, I got caught suddenly in rain a few weeks ago with my passport on me, and when I discovered it at home, part of the passport photograph on biodata page has become cloudy. The passport was supposed to expire in like 15 months from now. Can I just apply for renewal, pay for 10 year passport and schedule capture in London? I'm asking because on the Nigeria high commission website in London, I'm seeing postal order of Ā£250 for damaged passport, whereas it's Ā£20 for renewal. Not sure if it is a mistake or that's how it is. Please kindly advise, as that's what is delaying my Schengen visa application right now.

Please, when switching visas from student to tier 2, do I have to pay the full IHS for tier 2 since I still have months left on the IHS paid for student visa, or is there a refund?

Please, i found only Academic Transcript and Degree Certificate on my required documents on WES. I couldn't find WAEC there. Is WAEC not part of the required documents again OR do they mean Original University Certificate by the Degree Certificate?

WAEC is not needed if you're doing evaluation towards a masters or PhD. You can upload a coloured scanned copy of your Bsc certificate when you log into your account, while your school supplies the transcript.
