The news about cameroon banning protestan church was recieved with mixed feeling. While majjority are commending the precident for such brave decision, others are criticising and condeming the decision.before we take our stance, lets look at protestant church in nigeria and ask ourselves, how has protestanism benefited nigeria? Are the demerits outweighind the merits.? These questions will enable us answer third question should nigeria ban protestan church?

Protestant churches have been operating so far without any check and balance system unlike the catholic,anglican baptist who have priests, bishop, arch bishop, cardinal etc to limit abuse of pastoral powers. As long as one is a general overseer, he takes decisions . Most times, this autocraticy is used neegatively. The case of rev king is still fresh in our mind. Other pastor cases of criminal act and misconduct are increasing daily. Members dare not question their pastors or are rebuked biblically by ."touch not my annoited and do my prophet no harm. A bishop can easily slap a girl and claim he was casting out demons .

The prosperity message protestant pastors protray hasnt helped out. Pastors asking members to sow a seed by voluntarilg giving out all their possesion to the church with a promise that God would pay them a thousand fold.this makes protestant church sounds like a buisness venture where members invest with an aim of yielding interest. Most of which doesnt yield fruit. Thereby brainwashed church members end up poorer while the already rich pastors are richer.

The manner in which pastors display their wealth makes them look like a buisness venture. From acquiring expensive rides to private jet . In a country surrounded by abstract poverty

all these have giving impression that there is money in the church. What other way of making money than to start a new church,. In the coperate affairs commission, the number of churches applying for registeration surpasses any other group.

The annoying fact is that these churches make money more than buisness enterprises. Yet,they are not taxed. The govt uses bank and other bodies to regulate the economy but churches are excempted under deguise that there not profit oriented.

What should be done? Fold our hands and watch!. No.

We church members should be quick to "reason" with our pastors and not take orders from them.

Should they be banned? No. You dont kill a child for a missdeed.
Govt should stop the increasing protestant churches.they should take a leaf from soludo who reduced the number of commercial banks to 25. Or from jega forscalling down number of political parties.
The cooperate affairs commision should fix a benchmark lets say xmillion naira before any protestant church is allowwed to operate. Others who cant should merge or get closed down.
There should be a way of taxing them.
Religion shouldnt be overlooked in the process of sanitizing the nation.

one thing is certainb about this letter, it didnt come from the heart. seun isnt sorry at all for the treatment. he only wrote it because of various aggitation by members.

while writing the letter, he had to quote a nairalander's appeal -

seun, why write a letter when it is obvious you are not sorry sor your action. why the pretence??

1) Why do so few moderate Muslims speak out against Islamic extremism? How can we get more moderate Muslims to speak up and amplify their voices?

I have been having this happen a lot to me lately. More newer people, but the same thing.
First, I want to point out if someone is on a open discussion board as this one, do they not know what " open discussion " means?

Second, I have no issues with anyone believing whatever they want, it is when they say their belief is fact, and have no evidence to support this. This is exactly what some do with their religions, they preach it as fact, and we all know how religion and politic discussions end up.

Also, if someone does say " this is what I believe", but follow it with " what do you think " , why do they get so damn upset when people start questioning it?

Then, some will " follow " people to other topics and generalize on things they said in another topic, but will not talk about it in the proper topic. It is like they are in a battle to get people to believe them, and not someone else.


I've seen it from all kinds; from Pagans to people of the christians , and those who have no belief system at all. Do they interpret any statements as a personal attack? Why is this the case so often? Anyone know?

am not jumping from one church to another. Just attend other churches on persistent invitation by friends...

In my early days, I was asked my dream caeeer, i had immediately replied " lawyer". My dad immediately told me that "all lawyers are liars".that statement immedtately demorolised me.

Few years later, my elder cousin came home informing us of his intention to marry a lawyer. He was immediately told to think twice about it. Everyone present began narrating their ordeals with lawyers.

i was very young then.i was really brainwashed against doing anything with lawyers. I viewed them as a proffesional liars paid to lie.

as i grow older, my belief faded gradually.i now belive that that some honest lawyers truely exist. However, they are few. The multitude liars tend to overshadow them. The legal system is itself corrupt.

What then diffrentiaates an honest lawyer from the lying lawyers?

The legal system has made it such that the more difficult a case tends to be, the more money u tend to make as a lawyer. The initial belief that lawyers defend the innocent is really fading. Do lawyers still do that?
Modern lawyers defend who approaches them, who is ready to foot the bill irrespective of the truth

The dishonet lawyers lack conscience. He uses his lying tongue to bend the truth and strech the lies in convincing the court
the dishonest lawyer defends the case of a known persistent murderer and sleeps peacefully afterward
the dishonest lawyer is ready to call a white spade "black" .
he is willing to defend a criminal today and to accuse the innocent the next day.
he does little or nothing while charging the client exhorbidant fees.raping the client of thousand and knocking of 2%
he hardly advices his client to settle out of court knowing it is of no benefit to him.even if the client has 5% chance of winning the case. He would rather continue delaying the case since he stands to gain from "sitting fee".

The irony of it all is that such persons who consider their pocket first before their conscience or the client scale through the legal profession.hardened criminals, curropt goverment officials and rich politician patronise them and pay them . .They win the case even though the entire court know they ought to loose. In most cases, the judge is helpless as he is trained to judge by reason and not by emotions.

I have attended various religious gathering organised by various churches in past few months.

I opted out of my rigidity in my own church and decided to accept every invitation by every tom,dick and harry requesting me to attend their church for one thing or the other

though i gained from some, i just couldnt stop laughing in others.

This thread aims at highlighting examples of prayer by each church.you are free to add urs
