Ah, yes, the doctor bashing is in full swing. When strike actions have become the only way by which outstanding salaries would be paid, what are the doctors to do? Doctors are human beings, they have kids to feed, bills to pay. How can they be working without pay for months and people are ranting about how inconsiderate they are? Why not rant about how inconsiderate the government is? And to the people ranting about how doctors don't treat people who cannot pay- NEWSFLASH: This is Africa. When they are treated and get better, they abscond, never settling their bills. The doctors and the hospitals eat the costs. Doctors have been queried or even dismissed for treating patients who didn't pay. Who in their right mind goes to buy petrol when they have no money in their wallets to pay? How can anyone, in Nigeria today, go to a hospital with no payment plan? Who is supposed to cover the costs? The doctor? How many will (s)he pay for before going bankrupt? In the developed countries often touted as "free healthcare!", healthcare is not free. Nothing is free. Insurance covers some of the costs, but those not covered by insurance MUST be paid by the patients, or they risk jail time. We have barely reached the level of insurance in this country, so that's still a long way off. To those who think resident doctors shouldn't be paid: no words for your ignorance. 4 Likes |

...Which is why I rub my phone, tablet and keys down with methylated spirit and cotton wool about once a week. The article says not to, but it's the best- doesn't damage devices in any way, removes icky micro-organisms, removes those oily finger stains and leaves them looking brand new. |

Maybe she wouldn't be selling herself as a means of livelihood if she had an education. Maybe she wouldn't have gotten pregnant if she had had access to good contraceptive care. Maybe she wouldn't have killed an innocent child if it didn't mean the end of life as she knew it. Maybe she wouldn't have gone down the road she did, if she'd seen a better way. People can yell "The Old Testament is still part of the Bible" till they're blue in the face. Anyone who tries to obey all the laws in Leviticus and Deuteronomy... It's impossible, frankly. Might as well lock yourself up in a bunker, not showering or grooming, and consuming only unleavened bread and water.
