godG: Ermm...sir, tell that 'ur friend' to chk this out:
Bold 1: really, d cgpa is low, but u never can tell. After WES conversion, pray it falls between 2.5/4. The implication of this is that he might need to look for schools that accept a cgpa of 2.5 for admission.

Bold 2: I think that would be better. He's got no choice. +Ur friend should just forget about top notch schools o.

Bold 3: no one will do that for u sir, tell him to embrace google. www.usnews.com can help u on that. Afterwards, he should get a good SOP, brilliant LOR, then shoot! GA/TA depends on those most times.

On the whole, since he is 'ur friend', tell him to join this thread himself. Don't give him fish, teach him how to fish sir. Possibilities lie in being active. Let him put patience and vigour in his quest. He will be fine.
Yes I have sent him the link to this thread this morning. If anyone on here knows any averagely ranked schs that accept 2.5 cgpa, letting me me kw the sch names isn't bad. I have limited knowledge abt m.sc cos I am going for b.sc.

kunlebal: Got some questions for you bro, are you going for Bsc or Msc, change some things like what n what. Adding work experience is very important but if you are adding work experience make sure you have your appointment letter, I'd card, pay slip n if possible study leave letter with you. Kindly answer the questions.
I think what he needs is employment letter and study leave approval letter

godG: I find it hard to avoid hitting 'like' whenever Bigfrancis and Oga Imperiouxx make a post.
Love beings. Despite tight schedules, we never get tired. This house on the whole is an archetype of love in it's heavenly sense. Loving people. I still cant imagine someone offering to accommodate you despite the fact that u have never met before! Love in it's superlative sense. May we always walk tall. When we need the help of man, nations will rise to our aid. God bless us all.
Amen

bigfrancis21: Success, bro. Your score isn't too bad, per se. If getting an assistantship is your greatest need, you might want to apply to less competitive schools. That way you stand a better chance of landing an admission + graduate assistantship.

Must it be a TA? How about RA? To land a research assistantship, you'll need to contact professors with similar research interests with you. Its a tactical game. Don't express your intent to be an RA in your first email or call to him. Many profs regard that as standoffish and that you're only interested in the financial benefits of it. Start first by talking about how you read several of his research works, how you liked it and how you can help him improve on some areas of it which you think needs a little touch up. Ehen! That shows a serious student, not some financial benefit hooker.grin He'll definitely reply you, appreciating your appraisals and asking you further questions concerning his research papers.
Of course, you'll need to do your own homework by downloading his research papers and reading them thoroughly to get acquainted with them. If there's space on his team, he'll definitely employ you.

If you wish to rewrite the GRE, I wish you utmost success. Cheers.
I dey always feel ur post and replies.... Wish to meet you someday.

Those are nice schools. Got University of Rochester on radar but it seems it's easy to get BS and MS than PhD undecided
Thank you! Does any of them require prior deposit to release I-20?

babyosisi: That is one area in high demand
Americans are not meeting up with that demand that was why agencies were recruiting from Africa, the Caribbean and the Philippines
The healthcare field is a vast market and the best paid comparatively so it is a good place for an immigrant to go into and make a decent living.
Don't take my word for it,check it out yourself.
I agree with you that there is high demand for it but it is not the highest paid job. IT jobs r highest paid

Walspring: get yourself a school of your choice by going to usnews. com and dont use an agent to get yourself school what of if school agent get for u is not ur choice or u dont like the life style when u get there?
Well agent will want to get u a school dat is cheap and i pray he wont get u CC school. I advise u to search for school urself.
As for the exam well i understoond why which might be ur ability sha but just be wise and as our justwise here who does not like ppl mentioning agents names here.
Lastly people here can get u list and names of school for free if you need help on that, all u need to do is to ask what u want.
Amefrica, whats the name of ur school? I wanna see if I would apply. Utah State Uni os very disorganise.

Ricky Rozay: YES exactly, that's the Point! You need to tell the VOs what they need to hear...

Even when you come clean in most cases and say the truth and the truth you told doesn't still make rythms and senses to the VO's ears, your application will still be DENIED! Painful truth!.

So tell em what they need to hear and You need to Package yourself Well Well before heading to the US embassy....

See you need to be sharp on that day of the Interview.. The VOs are very smart, and they can detect if you lying, through eye contact, Body Language and Unnecessary Stammering to questions being asked.

These people are trained psycologist you dealing with, but you need to demonstrate to em you are Much smarter... You be 9ja boy. No fear.. God pass em...

As US student Visa applicant, you need to learn how to think very fast! That's very important! Becos these VOs can ask you a question more than ONCE when they suspect something fishy or suspect you might be telling lies and they will want to NAIL you down so they will believe you must have forgotten what you have said to em innitially.

You know when you lie, you will need a thousand lies to cover up the lies you have told.. And most lies people tell might be forgotten.. But TRUTH will Never be Forgotten.

So pls once Again, Be Smart and Learn how to think fast on that Day..

I know why I'm saying this, it happened to me on the day of my Interview.. The VO asked me some questions more than once in different question formats and she was PRETENDING like as if she didn't remember what she previously asked me and the reply I gave her, thinking I was going to change my stance after asking me the same question the 2nd time but I still stood by my words and said exactly the same thing as I filled on my DS 160 form.. No Shaking!!!!

Consistency is another Major factor involving US Visa applications..

See what you will do, AFTER filling your DS 160 form, the day you submit the form, Pls do MAKE SURE you PRINT-OUT the whole application you filled so you can go home and practice and prepare with what you filled, so you don't Forget anything on that Day..

Have your Filled DS 160 form on your Finger tips after submitting it.. That's very important..

Regarding the Employment letter, Since you are telling the VO you were once employed, you still need to take a document to back-up this claim just incase the VO demand to see proof so you don't go there and be looking like a LEARNER....

But they hardly request for documents.. But you still need to get a Letter of Employment from the company you claim you worked for and let em type it on the company's Letter-headed paper and let them Back-date the Letter as well so you can be on a safer side.. You need to prepare for the Unexpected.. So you DON'T give the VOs any slight reason to DENY you..

For example, you were employed in the company on the 15th of March 2010. Let the Letter of Employment be dated on the 15th of March 2010..

Please Once again, Be smart on that day and MOST importantly learn how to think fast..

If you do all this things, I see you coming home with your US student Visa by fire by Force..

Success bro..
Additive to what u said, I would suggest that he should also go with a study leave approval letter from the company he works for. This will act as a tie that he would come back after graduation to continue his job.

babyosisi: I have never been to Pasadena TX but I do know that it is not too far away from Houston
I know a lady that studied nursing at San jacinto College and made the drive daily and back from Houston

" goes to google" grin

It's only 16 miles from Houston they say ,so you won't be far from a big city should you decide to live there
Houston is quite large so the 16 miles would depend on what part of Houston.
You will find all the conveniences of a large city there also
Texas generally has no reliable public transport so you need a car to get around.

After San jacinto College you may now want to transfer to a 4 year college and get your bachelors

Like I told people earlier, the easiest jobs for an immigrant to get are in the medical field,I will be frank with you
That is where the most demand is
That doesn't mean it's impossible to get jobs in other areas
San Jacinto College has three campuses, two in Houston and one in Pasadena.

What medical course would you suggest for me? Let me see if I can opt for a change of course on arrival
