Labour Party kicks as NLC seeks Abure, others’ prosecution over forgery allegations The crisis rocking the Labour Party took a new twist on Monday when the Nigeria Labour Congress wrote the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, demanding the arraignment of the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, and three members of the National Working Committee over a protracted case of forgery and criminal conspiracy. The three other indicted officials have since been identified as the National Secretary of the party, Umar Farouk, Ojukwu Clement, and Edward Okereke, who are members of the NWC. The acting National Chairman of the NLC Political Commission, Prof Theophilus Ndubuaku, made the demand at a joint press conference with former National Youth Leader of LP, Anslem Eragbe and Chairman of the Nigerian Corruption Watch, Prince Dandy Rowland. The development comes exactly one year after two Labour Party governorship candidates and a House of Representatives candidate called for Abure’s prosecution, having established forgery allegations against him. The aggrieved candidates are the Governorship Candidate of Ebonyi State, Splendour Eze; Edo House of Reps Candidate, Murphy Imasuen and Plateau Governorship Candidate, Yohana Mangif. But Ndubuaku insisted that there is a need to sanitise the party to avoid giving Nigerians and other stakeholders a wrong impression. The NLC chieftain also said, as members of the Labour Party National Caretaker Committee, they have issued the office of the AGF seven days to effect the prosecution of Abure and the three NWC members. He said, “The Nigeria Police Force Legal Department had long ago advised that the suspects be charged to court. And despite our repeated enquiries, the relevant authorities have not been able to give us any explanation as to the reason(s) Julius Abure and others have not been prosecuted. “We believe that continued delay of this case will rubbish Mr President’s anti-corruption fight before the whole world. The non-compliance with the IGP Prosecution order is, no doubt, undermining justice. “The Labour Party National Caretaker Committee hereby call on the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to, without further delay, bring the suspects to court within seven days, as directed by the Inspector General of Police.” Ndubuaku also commended the complainant, Eze Oko, whose signature and necessary vital details were forged, for allegedly rejecting monetary bribes and overtures made to him to drop the case. Oko was LP’s governorship candidate in Ebonyi State in the 2023 election. Reacting via a phone interview, the National Publicity Secretary of LP, Obiora Ifoh, dismissed the threat as a lost battle. “They usually come up with this report any time there is a major election around. This was a case that has been struck out by the police and the court. “I am sure they are bringing this one up again, probably because they have collected money from unsuspecting aspirants with a praise to give them Labour Party ticket for the forthcoming Anambra governorship election,” he said, The party also released a statement to counter the NLC and the LP National Caretaker Committee’s claim. It partly read, “Our attention has been drawn to a press conference held by Prof Ndubuaku, a self-acclaimed chairman of the LP Transition Committee, in the company of a sacked former member of the Labour Party and a few other unknown faces wherein they attempted to hoodwink the public as done severally in the past. “The statement in its entirety is fallacious, misleading and a calculated attempt to malign the image of Barrister Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party. First, the forensic report and the investigative Police report from the Police have stated clearly that there was no forgery. The file that was forwarded to the Attorney General has since been returned to the Police on the ground that the forensic report exonerated the four persons clearly, meaning that they have no case to answer, and this is to the knowledge of Prof Ndubaku and his co-jesters. It is, therefore, laughable that someone will be giving an ultimatum to the Attorney General of the Federation in a case that is not in existence.” https://punchng.com/lp-kicks-as-nlc-seeks-abure-others-prosecution-over-forgery-allegations/

Labour Party Demands Swift Prosecution in High-Profile Forgery and Conspiracy Case Against Abure, Others in 7-days. Abuja, Nigeria – The Labour Party National Caretaker Committee (NCC) has issued a strong call to action, urging Nigeria’s Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to expedite the prosecution of Barr. Julius Abure, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, Ojukwu Clement, and Edward Nkwegu Okereke. These individuals face allegations of perjury, forgery, and criminal conspiracy, stemming from a case initiated in October 2023. The NCC, represented by Prince Dandy Rowland, Chairman of the Nigerian Corruption Watch Magazine, held a press conference in Abuja to highlight the urgency of the matter. “This press conference is to call the attention of the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and to sensitise the press regarding the subject matter of the criminal indictment,” Prince Rowland stated. He emphasised the gravity of the allegations, which include the submission of forged documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2023 general elections. Evidence and Allegations The case, documented under Police case number CR: 3100/X/LEG/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.II/1, includes a forensic audit report confirming that forged signatures were used to unlawfully remove Eze Oko, the validly nominated Labour Party gubernatorial candidate for Ebonyi State. The NCC provided Certified True Copies of the investigation report and INEC documents as evidence. “Forgery, perjury, and criminal conspiracy are serious offenses that should not be swept under the carpet,” Rowland asserted. The NCC also accused the suspects of violating court orders and conducting an illegal Labour Party National Convention in Nnewi, Anambra State, in March 2024. These actions were described as “illegal, null, and void” by the NCC, citing INEC’s affidavit and the Electoral Act of 2022. Delays in Prosecution Despite the Inspector General of Police’s directive for prosecution, the case has faced significant delays. The NCC expressed frustration over the lack of action, stating, “The Nigeria Police Force Legal Department had long ago advised that the suspects be charged to court. And despite our repeated inquiries, the relevant authorities have not been able to give us any explanation as to the reasons for the delays.” The NCC criticized the perceived impunity of the suspects, alleging that they have boasted about their political connections. “Julius Abure goes about bragging and boasting that as far as his sister remains the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Justice in Abuja, nobody can prosecute him nor his criminal accomplice. “That Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim boasted that he has contacts in the Department of State Security Service, DSS in Abuja and the Nigeria Police Force Headquarter Abuja who shall do his bidding to hound Comrade Eragbe Anslem Aphimia, the former National Youth Leader of Labour Party in Nigeria through frivolous petitions, illegal arrest and illegal prosecution,” the NCC alleged. Public Mobilization In response to the delays, the NCC announced plans to mobilize over 500 civil society organizations and anti-corruption groups to demand justice. “This demand to ensure that Julius Abure and others are prosecuted without further delays is additionally a public consensus,” Rowland said. The NCC warned that failure to act would undermine Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts and tarnish the government’s credibility. The NCC issued a seven-day ultimatum for the Attorney General to bring the suspects to court. “The Labour Party National Caretaker Committee hereby calls on the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to, without further delay, bring the suspects to court within seven days, as directed by the Inspector General of Police,” Rowland declared. The press conference concluded with a strong message of accountability. “We commend the complainant, Eze Oko, for rejecting monetary bribes and insisting that justice must be served. This case should serve as a deterrent to any other party executives in Nigeria who may wish to engage in such acts in the future,” Rowland stated. As the deadline approaches, all eyes are on the Attorney General’s office to see whether swift action will be taken in this high-profile case. The Labour Party’s demands reflect a broader call for transparency and justice in Nigeria’s political and legal systems. https://streetreporters.ng/2025/03/24/labour-party-demands-swift-prosecution-in-high-profile-forgery-and-conspiracy-case-against-abure-others-in-7-days/?s=08 |

Buhari's Government Was A Disaster - Soyinka https://www.nairaland.com/8104287/buharis-government-disaster-soyinka |
Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has described the government of former President, Muhammadu Buhari as a disaster. Soyinka said he made very pungent criticisms of Buhari when he was in power and even gave him ultimatum when banditry, fundamentalists, kidnappings, the raiding of farmlands, and the creation of a new nation of displaced persons were the order of the day. In his words: Buhari, of course, was a disaster. I made very pungent criticisms of Buhari when he was in power. For instance, I gave him an ultimatum when this banditry, fundamentalists, kidnappings, the raiding of farmlands, and the creation of a new nation of displaced persons were the order of the day. “I told him that as Commander-in-Chief, he should give those insurgents 48 hours to quit all the lands that they had illegally acquired, and after that, it is maximum force. I watched him, but nothing happened. I merely cite this as one. “This exposes the nature of Nigeria’s vociferous critics for who they are – liars. It is either they are liars or deliberate ignoramuses for them to say that when critical issues that attacked the core of our nation were being discussed, Wole Soyinka kept quiet.” He said from that, all kinds of disgusting insinuations were made, saying some even said he had been bought. Soyinka added that after that, “we gave up on Buhari completely and began a do-it-yourself mission. Don’t let us flog this horse. Anybody who wants my answer should go and read ‘Baiting Igbophobia’ which is my last in the intervention series. “I already made up my mind that anybody who wanted to know certain issues and the truth behind certain truths that I share should go read those interventions and come and meet me on any public forum for a debate. Otherwise, it is just talking to the ignorant who take pride in their ignorance.” https://guardian.ng/news/buhari-was-a-disaster-soyinka/ |
Just a year ago, someone @ilynem on X predicted exactly how Tinubu's tenure would go and reading this, there's no part of it that went wrong. We all know he would fail but a few evils decided to force him on us for their selfish gains. Let me tell you people how Tinubu's tenure will go. It's so easy to predict. 1. In June, subsidy will be removed. This will trigger inflation never seen in Nigeria before. I see people refer to transportation costs (for humans), but it's a lot more than that. 2. Goods also travel. The cost of transporting goods will rise and sellers will transfer this to the prices of their goods. So expect everyday goods to rise sharply. 3. Cost of production will also rise. Companies that run on generators will raise their prices to break even. 4. This means demand will drop drastically and once demand starts to drop, companies will begin to pack up and fail. But this is not the sad part. I know! It gets worse. 5. If companies are failing that means government taxes are falling too (let's forget unemployment first). 6. For a man like Tinubu that measures his success through IGR (which is a pretty dumb way though) he cannot stand and watch IGR fall. What will he do? Increase taxes because that's always his first instinct which will further drive a lot of businesses to fail. 7. Let's not forget he has spent so much in this election, he has to make his money back. Plus he's no Peter Obi that can manage resources. Those presidential aircrafts will not fly themselves. We are in for the toughest time in our history. I see people making tweets like "Nigeria must work." It's like standing in front of a moving train and declaring that the train will stop. Keep your prayer for yourself. You will need it if this man stays in office in the next 4 years.

Political mafias captured Nigeria’s election, government under Mahmood Yakubu; Citizens must rise now: Attahiru Jega Professor Attahiru Jega on Saturday sounded a five-alarm warning to Nigerians, saying the country’s fundamental governing instruments have been hijacked by a pack of reckless political actors. Mr Jega rallied Nigerians to immediately rise and recover control of the country or risk farming out their collective destiny to a clique of selfish individuals who lacked the requisite aptitude to salvage the country’s descent into a failed entity. “Citizens have an obligation in good or bad times,” Mr Jega said. “They have key roles to play in order to ensure their country survives and good things happen to ordinary citizens.” The admonition came when the former INEC chairman delivered a convocation keynote at Sa’adu Zungur State University, Bauchi, on Saturday afternoon, which was themed: ‘Safeguarding Nigeria’s future: Prioritising citizen’s welfare and security amidst challenges’. Mr Jega, who led INEC from June 8, 2010, to June 30, 2015, said the electoral office had been hijacked under his success Mahmood Yakubu, who has continued to face immense public criticism for alleged corruption and manipulation of results in favour of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress. Mr Yakubu hurriedly declared Bola Tinubu the winner of Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, despite well-documented evidence of electoral fraud and intimidation. A top INEC contractor said Mr Tinubu indicated readiness to bribe Mr Yakubu and other top electoral officers ahead of the election, according to audio obtained by Peoples Gazette, although it was unclear whether the arrangement was implemented and how steep it filtered through the agency’s personnel chain. Mr Tinubu’s involvement in drug operations that led to his forfeiture of over $460,000 to the United States in the 1990s, as well as his presentation of a dubious academic certificate to back his candidacy, also significantly aggravated opposition concerns over the process that brought him to Nigeria’s highest office. Mr Tinubu did not deny presenting a forged certificate to INEC but said his drug penalty case was a civil arrangement that carried no criminal implications for his reputation. Although poverty has continued to ravage Nigerians since he assumed office, Mr Tinubu has announced key policy changes in fiscal administration that he said would help mollify the crisis for the nation’s 200 million population. Several states have received direct federal support to help relax runaway transportation and commodity costs, although a large section of the country said implementation has been painfully slow. Still, Mr Jega’s statement, while entirely silent on mentioning Mr Tinubu by name, appeared to echo a key prong of the criticism the Nigerian president has faced since assuming office six months ago. A presidential spokesman was asked to comment on the matter Saturday evening. “Ultimately, the best way to safeguard Nigeria’s future and secure the welfare of citizens devoid of massive security challenges is to have elections with integrity through an electoral process that is not captured,” Mr Jega said. “Unfortunately, now we are seeing that it is captured by reckless politicians.” “An election that is not captured will bring out quality people, and as they become elected public officials and representatives who have positive value orientation in governance processes, the institutions will harness societal resources and deliver good quality services,” he continued. “If the reckless people are capturing the political process, the electoral process and government, and people just sit and watch, obviously they will destroy the future for everybody.” Mr Jega said Nigerians should push to take back control of the country and steer it towards a more federal system, as against the current unitary arrangement. “Only in this way can the state have the requisite legitimacy, stability, competence and capacity as well as resourcefulness to effectively address the needs of the people and safeguard the future of our country,” he said. “Any state that fails to do this in the modern context will be considered a failed state.” https://gazettengr.com/political-mafias-captured-nigerias-election-government-under-mahmood-yakubu-citizens-must-rise-now-attahiru-jega/

The Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has claimed that the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari printed over ₦22 Billion and poured the money into the system without backing the money up, noting that the country is grappling with high inflation as a result of what the past administration did. According to Vanguard Newspaper report, the former CBN Governor made this disclosure when he was being interviewed on Channels Television on Friday, noting that Bola Tinubu inherited a stagnant economy from the past administration. Professor Soludo said: "The past administration printed over N22 trillion and poured it into the system without backing it up. Now we have to grapple with high inflation and the impact of the exchange rate." Furthermore, the Anambra State governor noted that he is glad that President Tinubu has taken courageous step to remove the obnoxious scam that has festered over the years called petrol subsidy, and now dealing with the exchange rate. In addition, Soludo noted that he is willing to give President Tinubu and his government the benefit of the doubt, noting that he believes that the newly set-up economic team will solve the economy problems. He went on and urged Nigerians to support Tinubu's administration, so that he will be able to achieve his plans. https://ng.opera.news/ng/en/politics/88a89bf7701f1615cb339edc53c6ae08
