PoliticsMiyetti Allah, Police Debunk Report Alleging Cows Burnt With Truck In Anambra by Tofax(op): 3:05pm On May 09, 2022
An online report on Sunday alleged that a truckload of cows was set on fire by unknown gunmen in Uga Aguata’s local government area of Anambra State.

Sunday Independent gathered that the truck was on its way to a market when the gunmen struck.

Eyewitness reports reveal some occupants of the truck were injured in the deadly attack, according to him, “Unknown gunmen have burnt down a truck loaded with cows at Uga, Aguata LGA in the early hour of Sunday.

This attack is coming a few weeks after a military couple was gruesomely killed by gunmen in Imo State.

The Killing elicited negative reactions from Nigerians who demanded immediate action from security agencies in ensuring the capture of the culprits.”

But when our correspondent contacted the Southeast Zonal Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) of Nigeria Alhaji Gidado Soddiki, he said he has not got the full details of the incident but was reliably informed that the cows belonging to the Uga people were saved.

Soddiki also told our correspondent that the truck was returning from the North to Uga where the indigenes who were owners of the cows were waiting for their consignments.

Also, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Police DSP Ikenga Tochi reliably informed our correspondent that the cattle were rescued by police operatives unhurt but the front of the truck was burnt.

Ikenga said it took the timely intervention of police operatives in conjunction with community people to rescue the driver of the truck and the cows even as he pointed out that the real cause of the mayhem has not been ascertained.

PoliticsI Support Ipob's Agitation But Not The Violence - Gov. Wike by Tofax(op):
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Monday said he supports the agitation by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) but not the violence associated with the group.

Wike, a frontline presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated this during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

“I support the agitations in the South-East, whether anybody likes it or not, I do,” Wike said. “We should sit down at the round table and discuss it.

“But again what do I do wrong when you have not gone to say ‘bomb everything there.’ I am a governor and you are telling me what has never happened and I should accept? Do you need to kill everybody in my area simply for me to say I am with you? And I say no, I won’t do that.”

The governor also faulted critics who shaded him for saying he wasn’t supporting IPOB. He wondered where they were when he publicly supported the cause of their agitation against injustice in the region.

According to Wike, there is injustice and division in the country. He, however, insisted that the best way to protest against injustice isn’t by killing innocent souls in the country.

When asked if IPOB poses a threat to him, the governor neither affirmed nor denied it.

He said, “Why will they be a threat to me? It is because of the division in this country today that we have never had this country being divided this way.

“What pains me is that people take politics to think that I want to use this opportunity to fight this person. There came a time IPOB was singing praises about Wike. This Nnamdi Kanu was singing praises (that) Wike is our son.”

It's okay bro... I understand how you feel. I've seen similar things from my wife.
Lemme ask you this, does your wife attend the same church with you? If yes, then the two of you have to go back to your pastor for counseling.

Second, don't ever report your wife to your family or even her own family. If she tells you to give her space, politely leave her to her wish. If she decides to leave the house on her own, don't force her to stay.

Before I forget, don't pity or pamper her anymore. Her kind of woman does not like a soft hearted man, it irritates them especially when it comes to being decisive. You have an obligation to control your home; your wife inclusive.
Too bad you married someone who's not ready for marriage.

BRO BE BRUTAL AND BLUNT WITH HER, SHE CANNOT GO ANYWHERE. YOU ARE AT AN ADVANTAGE NOW; SHEY YOU SAY SHE JUST BORN? SO NO WORRY, HER HEAD GO REACH HOUSE WHEN YOU STOP TO PET HER.

PoliticsThe Problem With My Yoruba Brethren -Ladi Ayodeji by Tofax(op): 9:44am On Dec 10, 2021
Late Senator Abraham Adesanya told us that Yoruba has no plural. We are not Yorubas, but simply Yoruba. That said, it’s time once more for Yoruba to rethink; that was probably why the renowned dramatist and singer, Chief Hubert Ogunde, waxed the hit song, Yoruba Ronu (Yoruba Think), when he realised the need for the ethnic group to wake up, and reposition during the dark days of the political turmoil in the old Western Region.

Youruba have a big problem, indeed, multiple problems, from poor leadership to loss of direction, cultural pollution, laziness, cheap compromise and sheer stupidity. Under the late first Premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the Yoruba were pace-setters. Other ethnic groups have caught up with us and even overtaken us. Yoruba Ronu (Yoruba Think).

We used to be the artisans Nigeria relied on to build houses, run public infrastructures, do all the maintenance chores, etcetera. Our people were the tradesmen who ran mechanic workshops, fixed vehicle electricals, batteries and carried out all repairs you could think of, whether home appliances, factory machines, name it, Yoruba were the acclaimed technicians who kept our nation running.

Those who went to school excelled. We did well in all branches of education and pioneered many fields of study in medicine, architecture, law and the humanities. We are home to two prestigious universities in Lagos and Ile-Ife; our academics were renowned for their brilliance and integrity. The South West enjoyed high literacy level because of Awolowo’s free education programme in his days as Premier and during the UPN governments of the LOOBO States in 1979.

We used to be leaders in industry; money and capital markets investment were our natural turf, while Ndigbo were known for their dominance in commerce. Over time, the algorithm began to change. Yoruba began to yield ground to other ethnic groups. Even the media, where Yoruba were known for their natural competence and managerial skills, now appears to be in the hands of Niger Delta businessmen.

Of course, members of the rival ethnic groups should not be expected to fold their arms and watch development dominated by the Yoruba. If our people lose their competitive edge and the advantage of being the gateway to the world because of the ports, they have no one to blame but themselves.

People complain that Ndigbo are buying up all the lands all over Nigeria, including the South West. But these lands are being bought, not seized. So, no one should complain if our South East neighbours have become more enterprising than the other ethnic groups. Ndigbo should not be punished or hated for their business acumen and bold business vision. We should copy them instead!

In the South West, our youth have become lazy. Take a casual walk around the streets in the morning hours, you’d see them in groups drinking in beer joints. Some cluster around bus stations. Many work as touts or Area Boys who extort money from Marwa and okada riders. When traders go to buy goods in markets, Yoruba Area Boys waylay them and demand “land dues.” Some of our smart, jobless youth who are tech savvy, use those skills to perpetrate cyber fraud (Yahoo-Yahoo). There’re also various types of thugs like the defeated One Million Boys, or Awawa Boys; cult groups are very active all over the place when elections are over, because their political patrons have no use for them once in power.

Yoruba Ronu (Yoruba Think), Ogunde’s heart cry is still resonating because our ethnic group is taking the back seat in all aspects of life in Nigeria. When the landowners of the South West finish selling all their lands to Ndigbo, they’d become tenants in their own territory. All our forests are being converted into housing estates, even as the need for agricultural production becomes more obvious. Yoruba youth don’t farm again because they’re lazy.

All the jobs that require physical strength are taboo for Yourba youth. That’s why all the cart pushers who sell agricultural products, water and other products are from the North. Arewa youth supply our foodstuffs, beef and several other products, while Ndigbo fill the gaps in domestic appliances, consumer electronics and other imports. How many Yoruba sell domestic cooking gas?

In sports, especially soccer, Igbo youth make up 80 per cent of our teams. Same is true of other sports. Yoruba wake up! Our leaders must repent of their greed and wickedness and bring true development to the region. Yoruba need great leaders at all levels to give direction to their people. We need to rediscover our competitive edge and contribute positively to Nigeria’s growth, with our political sagacity and natural diplomacy.

Nobody is asking the Yoruba to dominate other tribes. No! What one is saying is that we should reinvent ourselves and offer genuine leadership to our people, instead of using our youth as political thugs during election seasons and dumping them on the streets to fend for themselves. That’s not nice! If only Yoruba could think!

Yoruba should rediscover their Omoluabi nature, that’s what this piece is all about.

PoliticsBenin Republic Customs Retaliate, imposes N9m Per Nigerian Truck On Transit Goods by Tofax(op): 5:22pm On Nov 08, 2021
Border closure retaliation: Shippers groan as Benin Customs imposes N9m duty per Nigerian truck on transit goods
•As local manufacturers facing shortage of raw materials

Nigerian importers and exporters have decried the N9 million duty per truck imposed by Benin Republic Customs on transit goods passing through the country’s corridor.

Daily Sun learnt that the situation forced some shippers to pay more to reroute the goods via Togo port to Nigeria following the government of the Republic of Benin decision to stop all Nigeria-bound trucks laden with transit goods coming from Cote D’ivoire, Ghana and Togo.

However, shippers described the situation to be a revenge meausure over Nigeria’s closure of its borders in 2019, which lasted for more than one year.

Presently, most local manufacturers in the food, beverage and tobacco sector are said to be short of raw materials.

Speaking with Daily Sun, the Chairman of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANCLA), Seme Border chapter, Bisiriyu Fanu, said some people have to ship from Togo port because the Beninese Customs are demanding bill close to that amount.

According to him, that is why importers are putting their goods inside containers and ship it from Togo or Ghana instead of crossing through Ilakoji border because of that demand.

Meanwhile, an economist, Dr. Muda Yusuf, said that Benin Customs imposing duty transit goods constitute total disregard for ECOWAS protocols on trade and movement within the subregion.

He said the development has been taking toll on Nigerian businesses involved in cross border trade within the subregion. He urged government to take proactive measures to intervene and resolve the issue.

Also speaking, President, Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (AFFLON), Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, said it was a revenge measure becuase when Nigeria took the decision to close the border, the Beninese were not consulted.

“So Nigeria is judicially violated the rule of ECOWAS Liberation Schemes (ETLs), which caused hazard to Benin Republic, they are trying to do revenge measurement on Nigeria.

“But instead of them to have stopped trading, they decided to put money penalty on Nigeria. Invariably, it is going to add to the cost of goods brought into the country and violated the rules.

“There is need to go back to the roundtable, speak to all the ECOWAS countries and come to a collective decision to resolve the issue,” he said.

PoliticsIgala Wants Middle Belt ‘excised’ From Northern Nigeria by Tofax(op): 8:27am On Nov 07, 2021
The Igala ethnic group has expressed displeasure over the current political arrangement in the country and called for excision of the North-Central from the North as a catalyst for development.

The group urged the people of North-Central to evolve a new political identity and become a new political force that is comparable with that of the North-East, North- West, South-East, South -West or South-South respectively and manifest this in all social, political and economic discussions in Nigeria.

It also deplored the situation where the Igala and other minority ethnic groups have been subsumed under the North-Central geopolitical zone, adding that the arrangement was unacceptable because “our voice is not audible but can only be taken for granted” in the political equation of the country.

It equally tasked the National Assembly to review the 1999 Constitution to address growing agitations for self-determination by some major ethnic groups in Nigeria, warning that activities of the separatist groups had become a threat to the territorial integrity of the country.

Speaking at the 2nd Pan Igala Summit organized by the Igala Strategy Team (IST) in collaboration with the Igala Cultural and Development Association to brainstorm on contemporary socioeconomic and political challenges facing Nigeria, the group said “the current practice which divides Nigeria into six geo- political zones based on the convenience of politicians and selfish leaders is fraudulent and must be reviewed or discarded if we must move forward.

“In this structure, we have North-East, North-West, North-Central, South-East, South-West and South-South but there is no centre.

The centre is made an off-shot of the North; that is why all the states in the central part of Nigeria are regarded as part of the North! What a fraudulent contraption?’

“In nature and in any geographical arrangement, everything begins from the centre and all other sections take their bearings from there, and where there is no centre to hold that entity collapses.

But in the current Nigerian political arrangement the centre is made a branch of a wing, so Central Nigeria is currently referred to as Middle Belt or North- Central. “We reject this fraud and call on all governments and ethnic groups within the Centre of Nigeria who are currently referred to as Middle Belt or North-Central, to do so.

We also call on all Nigerians who believe in justice, equity and fair-play to regard us as Central Nigeria because a centre cannot be derived from a wing, “he said.

The Chairman of the Summit, David Akoh, lamented that in recent times some groups from major ethnic groups in Nigeria have launched agitations to desert Nigeria and establish ethnic nations due to the current conflicts in the country. Akoh condemned the trend where some major ethno political blocks have been fighting hard to dismantle Nigeria to constitute separate nations without considering the consequences on other Nigerians.

In a keynote address delivered at the summit, Akoh said that though every ethnic group, no matter their population, was capable of carving out a nation if circumstances so compel them, the Igala ethnic group believes in the Nigerian experiment and will remain here either alone or with any ethnic group or groups that believe in the same.

Akoh charged the federal lawmakers to review the Constitution to address any genuine causes of conflicts which the major ethnic groups are using as an excuse for threatening the integrity of the country.

He also advised the major ethnic groups involved in the said agitations to use their numerical strength, power and intellect to lead other Nigerians in finding innovative approaches to the conflicts plaguing the country.

PoliticsInsecurity: The Govt Knows Sponsors Of Boko Haram, Says Former Naval Officer by Tofax(op): 12:42pm On Aug 25, 2021
Former Navy Commodore, Kunle Olawunmi on Wednesday hinted that the Nigerian government knows those behind the decade-long Boko Haram insurgency in the country.

He made the comment during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

“They [government] know. Of course, it is in the news,” Commodore Olawunmi said.

“In April this year, the government said they had arrested 400 Bureau De Change (BDCs)-related people that were sponsoring Boko Haram. They told us.”

The presidency had earlier said it would publish names of those behind the Boko Haram war with the development generating heated controversy across the country.

But months down the line, the long-waited list is yet to be made public, a situation the ex-military officer says does not bode well for the government who he accused of shielding criminals.

“Try them, we know them. Why can’t this government, if not that they are partisan, bring those people out for trial?” he asked, corroborating calls from several quarters for the Federal Government to make good its promise.

He claimed that the government has developed cold feet in fighting the insurgency because some of those backing Boko Haram are now top-ranking government officials.

“I can’t come on air and start mentioning names of people that are presently in government that the boys we arrested mentioned,” he said, referencing his time as a member of the military intelligence team in 2017.

“Some of them are governors now. Some of them are in the Senate. Some of them are in Aso Rock.”

Commodore Olawunmi believes the Nigerian government is not sincere in the fight against Boko Haram.

Olawunmi’s remark is the latest in the continued debates about how Nigeria can end the Boko Haram war which has led to thousands of deaths and displaced millions especially in the northeast and some neighbouring countries.

While the military says the ongoing onslaught against the terrorists has yielded results and the criminals surrendering in ‘droves’, calls for granting amnesty to some of the “repentant” members of the sect have also divided opinions among stakeholders.

Advocates, citing the amnesty programme of the ex-President Musa Yar’Adua to ex-Niger Delta militants, say it will bring peace to the troubled North-East.

But Olawunmi has faulted the move.

“The challenge we have in this country cannot be solved the same way we solved the problem of the Niger Delta. I told them we can’t use the same strategy for Boko Haram,” he argued, citing when he served a security and intelligence brief at the Defence Headquarters between 2016 and 2017.

According to him, fishing out the sponsors is a major way of ending the war.

“The centre of gravity of Boko Haram and insurgency in Nigeria are the sponsors of that programme,” the professor of Intelligence and Global Security Studies, added.
