A contestant in the ongoing Gulder Ultimate Search, Mfon, has been kicked out of the reality television show after he severally threatened to kill a fellow contestant on national television.

In the edition of the show aired on Sunday evening, Mfon, of the clan, Irin, was sent packing at the Place of the Talking Drum following his altercation with Clan Iroko’s Esitima earlier in the day.

Trouble started when Esitima Edem, a 24-year-old hostess and a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt’s accounting, asked Mfon for her slippers which she saw him wearing earlier.

Micheal Mfon Esin, a freelance writer and model, did not like the tone of her request and an altercation ensued during which he threatened to kill her at least three times.

On one of the occasions, he told the female contestant to watch her back even after the show as he would come for her.

The threat caught the attention of the Council of Elders, who condemned his lack of self-control.

Show host, Toke Makinwa, announced the decision of the organisers of the show to the crestfallen Mfon. According to her, his lack of self-control had cost him a spot in the competition.

In the same episode, another contestant, Gerald Odeka was evicted after his team came last in the day’s task.

Gerald, also known as Speedstar, was tipped by other contestants to will the ultimate prize for his focus, strength and intellect.

He won gold, silver, and bronze at the National Sports Festival in 2012, and in 2013, competed in the World Athletics Championships in Russia.

Interestingly, he had also tipped himself to win the show earlier in the same episode when he was asked to mention the top contenders.

Unfortunately, his team lost in the day’s task which meant that at least a member of the team had to be evicted.

Young Nigerians have been flooding Twitter with pictures showing them leaving the country for good in search of a better life elsewhere.

‘Japa’, slang for ‘escape’, or ‘run’ has been trending on the top 10 topics on Twitter for at least three consecutive days. It is at number 2 at the time of filing this report. It has garnered over 44,000 tweets.

The trend is basically tweets of Nigerians sharing their picture at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, the airport of their host countries, or inflight with captions saying that they have successfully escaped from Nigeria.

Some simply post their international passport with their boarding pass accompanied by an iconic picture of the famous actress, Sola Sobowale holding out a glass of wine with the caption “Welcome to the new dispensation’.

Microsecondnews’ checks across Twitter indicated that the Sobowale picture has been used so often that it has become the number one Japa meme.

Others simply tweet that they have now officially deleted their VPN, in an apparent reference to the Twitter ban in Nigeria which has made it necessary for whoever wants to use Twitter in the country to download and install VPN applications.

Once outside Nigeria, they have no use for the VPN any longer.

Some commentators remarked that a majority of those leaving at this time are students travelling in time for the commencement of the September academic session in the United Kingdom and other countries.

Two men identified as 29-year-old Pascaliano Odhiambo and 19-year-old Bonventure Ouma have been arrested for assaulting their elder brother in Kenya, to the point of death after responding to a distress call from their mother.

It was gathered that the deceased identified as Juma had returned home around 8:00pm drunk, and demanded for food from their mother. When told that food was not ready, he descended on his helpless mother with blows and kicks leaving her wailing in despair, for her dear life.

The woman’s screams pushed his brothers into beating him mercilessly before they retired to bed.

Juma’s mother woke up on Thursday September 23 and walked towards his house to check on him, despite having been assaulted by him the previous night. After finding him dead on the doorstep of his house, with a deep cut inflicted on his head and slightly above the left ear, she alerted the local authorities who called in detectives based in Butula, Busia county.

A machete, jembe and a rungu believed to be the murder weapons were found at the scene of the murder, documented and collected by the Busia based crime scene personnel. This led to the arrest of the two brothers who have been placed in custody at Bumala police station for processing and arraignment in court.
