Religion / Don’t Let Them Die Like Pastor Elisha, Nigerians Call For Release Of RCCG Member by Tokotaya: 8:33am On Mar 31, 2021
MSN Wed 31
The hashtag, #FreeRCCGMembers is trending at Number 2 this morning as Nigerians on Twitter demand the freedom of the eight members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) abducted by bandits last Friday.

The eight, going for evangelism in a church bus, were stopped and abducted by armed bandits between Kachia and Kafanchan in the evening of Friday of March, 2021. Read the report here.

A former presidential aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, on Monday galvanised Christians on Twitter with a post asking them to spare a thought for the abducted Christians and raise a voice for their freedom.

He tweeted: “Please, I appeal to you to do me this favour. Use the hashtag, #FreeRCCGMembers to call for the release of the @RCCGHQ pastor and members abducted by bandits in Kaduna. Don’t let them end up like Pastor Eunice Elisha. Do this for Christ, because of what Christ did it for you and I.”

Pastor Eunice Elisha, a mother of seven, was a deaconess of the Divine Touch Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, who was killed in Kubwa, Abuja by religious bigots while she was on early morning evangelism in 2016.

Many Christians responded to Okri’s tweet by praying for the release of the eight RCCG members, while some called on the authorities to take concrete action to free them and stop the rising wave of

The nabbed suspects Abdullahi Danshoho, 25, and Illiyasu Salleh, 24, belonged to a notorious kidnap gang that has been terrorising Nasarawa State for some time now.

They were apprehended by operatives of the Force Intelligence Response Team.

Among numerous abductions perpetrated by the gang was that of two patients and a nurse at Kun-warke Clinic and Maternity, Kan-Stakuwa, in Lafia area of the state, four months ago.

A pastor is currently cooling his heels in detention in Edo State after he was accused of rubbing anointing oil on the private parts of a pregnant woman.

The Edo State Police Command paraded pastor Jeffery Ihievu, after he was arrested for indecent assault.

Ihievu, attached to the Assemblies of God Church in Esan South East Local Government Area of the state, was arrested after the woman complained to her husband.

The woman had visited the pastor to complain about some bad dreams she had been having since she became pregnant.

It was learnt that the pastor then told her that she needed deliverance and asked her to UnCloth. He then proceeded to apply anointing oil on her private part and breasts.

However, when the woman could no longer feel the kicks of the baby,

Travel / US Asks Visa Applicants Rejected Under Trump’s Travel Ban To Reapply Free by Tokotaya: 7:15pm On Mar 10, 2021
The US Department of State has announced that US visa applicants whose requests were denied under former President Donald Trump’s travel restriction can now seek new decisions or submit new applications.

Recall that President Trump placed a travel ban on travellers from 13 Muslim-dominated and African nations.

President Joe Biden overturned Trump’s travel ban on his first day in office, calling it “a stain on our national conscience,” and gave the State Department 45 days to come up with a plan that would allow individuals from the affected countries to have their US visa applications reconsidered.

Following a legal review, State Department spokesperson Ned Price said Monday that those whose immigrant visa applications received a final refusal on or after Jan. 20, 2020, due to Trump’s travel ban “may seek re-adjudication without resubmitting their application forms or paying any additional fees, provided the underlying visa petitions remain valid.”

Those who were refused visas prior to Jan. 20, 2020, “may also be reconsidered, but these individuals must submit new applications and pay a new application fee,” according to Price. An applicant’s previous denial under Trump’s travel ban will not be held against them.

However, Price said that those who were selected in the diversity visa lottery during the fiscal years of the Trump administration are still barred from being issued visas if they haven’t gotten them already, because “the deadlines for visa issuance in those fiscal years have expired.”

The Central Bank of Nigeria’s Targeted Credit Facility portal has reopened for fresh applications.

The Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) announced this on Monday through a tweet.

The TCF is a stimulus package by CBN to support households and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to cushion the effects of COVID-19 pandemic. The loan will be disbursed through NIRSAL.

This is the second tranche of the relief package, following the first phase that was announced by CBN in March 2020.

According to NIRSAL, no fewer than 3,256 of 80,000 individuals and small businesses that applied for the credit facility benefited as of April 2020.

The interest rate on the facility will be nine per cent per annum, and the working capital will be for a maximum period of one year, with no option for rollover.

The CBN, however, announced last week interest on all similar facilities will remain at a discounted five per cent till 2022.

Term loans have a maximum tenor of not more than three years with, at least, one-year moratorium.

Households can access a maximum of N3 million, SMEs can access a maximum of N25 million depending on the activity, cash flow and industry/segment size of beneficiary.

Falls behind Jeff Bezos to become the world's second richest man after Tesla stock plunges

After vying for months with Jeff Bezos for the title of world’s richest man and topping the Amazon CEO as recently as last week, Musk is now firmly in the No. 2 spot and $20 billion behind Bezos.

It follows a rapid selloff in the tech sector, with Tesla shares hit harder than most and falling nearly a third from their all-time peak in January.

It comes after Tesla shares soared more than 700 percent in 2020, triggering billions in additional compensation for Musk per the terms of his stock-based payment package.

Analysts have long warned of a bubble in the tech sector, fueled in part by an influx of cash from small investors, with Tesla shares singled out as potentially overvalued.

Tech shares soared more than the rest of the market for much of the pandemic, as well as in the years preceding it.

Crime / Notorious Serial Rapist Murdered In Prison by Tokotaya: 1:04pm On Mar 02, 2021
He took a plea bargain to avoid death penalty, now dead anyway
MSN ReporterMarch 2, 20210 2 minutes read

One of California’s most notorious serial rapists and killers, known as the I-5 Strangler, has died after allegedly being attacked in prison.

Roger Reece Kibbe, 81, was discovered unresponsive on the floor of his cell at Mule Creek State Prison at around 12.45am on Sunday.

Kibbe’s cellmate, convicted murderer Jason Budrow sporting a ‘666’ tattoo on his forehead, was found standing next to the mortally injured man.

Kibbe was taken to the prison’s medical facility, where he was pronounced dead at 1.30am, Fox 40 reported.

Amador County Undersheriff Gary Redman said Kibbe’s death was ‘being investigated as a homicide.’

Officials did not say how Kibbe died, or whether a weapon was used.

Budrow, 40, who is serving a life sentence on a 2011 second-degree murder conviction, has been moved to an administrative segregation unit. As of Monday afternoon, he has not been charged in connection with Kibbe’s death.

Kibbe was serving multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole for raping and killing at least seven women and girls over the span of 30 years.

Kibbe, a married furniture maker whose brother was a police detective, was initially convicted in 1991 and sentenced to life in prison for strangling to death 17-year-old Darcie Frackenpoh.

The runaway from Seattle was killed after she disappeared from a West Sacramento street frequented by prostitutes, and her naked body was found in the mountains south of Lake Tahoe in 1987.

Kibbe took a plea deal in 2008 to avoid the death penalty and was sentenced to multiple life sentences

DNA evidence from six other murders, in which the victims were throttled, linked Kibbe to the crimes that were committed between 1977 and 1987.

In 2008, he pleaded guilty to murder counts with special enhancements of rape and kidnapping stemming from the killings of Lou Ellen Burleigh, Lora Heedrick, Barbara Ann Scott, Stephanie Brown, Charmaine Sabrah and Katherine Kelly Quinones.

Burleigh, 21, had left her Walnut Creek home in 1977 for a job interview but never returned. She was kidnapped to Lake Berryessa, tied up, raped and murdered. Her skeletal remains were recovered in a creekbed in 2011, some 34 years after her death.

Food / ‘covid Bandit’ Doles Out $6,800 (n2.5m) To Restaurant Staff by Tokotaya: 1:20pm On Feb 28, 2021
In a year that has excelled at being devoid of good memories, a man only known as the ‘Covid bandit’ has managed to sprinkle a little magic by leaving restaurant staff a hefty tip of $6,800 (N2.5m).

The delighted recipients were staff members who work at Guard and Grace, a steakhouse in Denver, US.

On February 20, an anonymous man visited the restaurant and left a $6,800 (N2.5m) cash tip that was divided among the restaurant’s 34 employees, Kiro7 reported.

As anyone who has worked in bars and restaurants will attest, it is a tough gig that only got tougher when coronavirus hit.

Restaurants globally were forced to close their doors, and staff have been left struggling for cash.

So one kindhearted gentleman took it upon himself to make a group of people’s lives a little easier and happier.

Staff member Ben Moon said he was seen chatting with the general manager before heading into one of the private dining rooms.

After the staff lined up, he handed each staff member $200 before departing, but not before he signed the credit card receipt – where he added: “Covid sucks.”

His identity remains unknown as he booked the reservation under the name

The late Ifeoma Abugu
The Chief Pathologist of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Abuja, Ahmed Abimiku has disclosed that the autopsy conducted on the corpse of Ifeoma Abugu revealed she was sexually assaulted before her death.

Abugu was arrested by the police last September when they could not find her fiancé they were seeking. She died by the following day while still under police custody.

At the sitting of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) panel investigating alleged violations of rights by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and other police units on Wednesday, Abimiku said his findings also put a lie to the claim by the police that she died of cocaine overdose.

“I conducted a urine test to ascertain the truth. It was negative. We also conducted a vaginal swab and discovered that she was sexually assaulted. Her possible cause of death is lack of oxygen,” he said.

Abugu had just completed her national youth service after graduating from the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu State. She had visited her fiancé in Abuja after their introduction in Enugu four days earlier in preparation for the wedding in December 2020.

Abugu’s fiancé, Afamuefuna Ugwunwa, told the panel that she was arrested and whisked away from his apartment by three SARS operatives at Wumba, Lokogoma Area of Abuja on September 1.

“They claimed that she was on drugs and died as a result of overdose. The police alleged that they met her unconscious. They are lying. She does not take alcohol not to

Food / Five Die, Hundreds Hospitalised After Eating Imported Chicken by Tokotaya: 11:55am On Feb 22, 2021
Frozen Chicken imported from Poland is wreaking havoc in the UK.

Five people are suspected to have died and hundreds more, including children, became seriously ill in the UK after eating contaminated chicken imported from Poland.

The meat was turned into cheap frozen nuggets and breaded chicken products sold by major supermarkets across the UK over the past year.

Some 480 people are known to have fallen ill with salmonella poisoning with more than one in three becoming so sick they needed hospital treatment.

The processed chicken products are typically bought by parents as a cheap and easy meal for children. Some 44 per cent of victims were aged 16 or under.

As many as five people have died after eating contaminated chicken from Poland. it comes as customers are being told to avoid eating certain batches of SFC’s Take Home Boneless Bucket product amid concerns it contains salmonella

Significantly, public health watchdogs say the salmonella infection has been recorded as a contributory cause of death in at least one case.

There have been a further four recorded deaths linked to these outbreaks, however it is not clear whether salmonella infection was a factor.

Public Health England refused to give any details on the age, gender or location for this group, potentially leaving bereaved families in the dark about the full circumstances.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a warning over the consumption of two SFC chicken products – which use packaging that mimics KFC – Take Home Boneless Bucket and Chicken Poppets.

There also been a recall of Chick Inn 32 Jumbo Chicken Nuggets, made by Vestey Foods.

The Daily Mail has learned that the chicken used in all of these products came from sources in Poland, which have been associated with two strains of the salmonella food poisoning bug.

The SFC products have been on sale for months through both Sainsbury’s and Morrisons, while the Vestey nuggets have been sold through hundreds of Heron Foods stores, B&M, and B&M Express.

A number of European countries, including Ireland, have issued nearly 100 warnings about salmonella in chilled and frozen poultry from Poland since the beginning of last year.

Of the 480 cases in the UK, some 400 were in England, 42 in Scotland, 31 in Wales and seven in Northern Ireland. These figures are likely to be the tip of the iceberg, as many people with less serious symptoms may not have visited their doctor or gone to hospital during the Covid-19 pandemic.

‘Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include diarrhoea, stomach cramps and sometimes vomiting and fever. Anyone who is concerned about symptoms should contact their GP or out of hours service in the first instance.’

Namibia still cherishes the old values of hardwork and academic excellence. Every year, they celebrate the top ten in their national junior and senior secondary school certificate exams. They invite the students from all over their country to the capital, Windhoek and celebrate them to encourage their students to pursue academic excellence. The programme attracts top government officials and captains of industry. Corporate bodies partner with schools and donate prizes and money to give to students who excel in their academics. We are only just paying attention now because two Nigerians emerged in the top ten this year.

Nigeria can learn from this African country. We have since derailed, giving undue attention and encouragement to frivolities. It should not always be about entertainment and sports. We need to return to promoting the values that will help us to build the Nigeria of our dreams.

The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewa land, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, has told his people living in isolated farm settlements to retire to town every day until a permanent solution is found to the menace of renegade herdsmen.

This is just as Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State announced on Monday he would be hosting some Northern governors on Tuesday to find a way to defuse the rising ethnic tension in the state.

Oba Olugbenle said this is not a time to stay overnight in far away farm settlements.

He charged them to come to town to sleep and go back in the morning to ensure the security of their lives.

He also told his people to speak with one voice and give the needed support to the task force deployed to the communities to provide protection.

Meanwhile, Governor Abiodun who spoke during his assessment of some areas in Yewa North affected by the recent herdsmen-related violence said he and some Northern governors would be exploring ways of finding enduring peace in the communities.

The governor visited Oja Odan, Ebute Igbooro, Asa, Eggua and others, promising to ensure adequate security of lives and property, as well as to compensate victims of the attacks.
