Politics / CBN Response To Sanusi Plagiarism Allegation by TonyTone1: 10:24am On Apr 26, 2012
CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA
PRESS STATEMENT

The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria has been drawn to reports in the media regarding a suit against the Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, by one Victor E. Dike, who is said to be a professor of Engineering and Technology, National University Sacramento, USA.

It is important to provide some clarifications on the matter. First, as at the time of release of this statement, no court papers in respect of the said suit, had been served on the Governor.

Furthermore, and for the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi did not write the said paper. Governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria, just like Chief Executive Officers of similar institutions in Nigeria and abroad, deliver papers, not in their personal capacities, but on behalf of the institutions for which they are chief spokespersons. In the case of the CBN, such papers, even though presented by the Governor, represent our collective views and are prepared by professional researchers in the relevant departments of the Bank. We can vouch that such papers are prepared in line with strict global and ethical standards.

As a responsible public institution, we always cooperate fully with court officers and our well trained and responsible security officers

Politics / Jonathan And His Powerful Aides Are Frustating My Efforts: - Farida Waziri by TonyTone1: 7:32pm On Sep 03, 2010
By SaharaReporters, New York

Farida Waziri's recent trip to the US has enabled her to make a case for her lack luster anti-corruption drive, and to pass the buck. And the person upon whom she is heaping the blame for her failures is her current boss: Nigeria's president, Goodluck Jonathan.

Farida told some United States officials during her recent trip that Jonathan and some of his aides have completely crippled her operation by interfering directly in her anti-corruption work.

Mrs. Waziri also told FBI trainers who visited the EFCC in Abuja that her terrible standing internationally is simply because her bosses never allow her to do her job. She gave examples of interference in the arrest and prosecution of economic criminals by the fallen former Attorney General of the Federation, Michael Aondoakaaa.

She lamented that since Jonathan’s coming to power, his powerful aides (who are believed to be his Chief of Staff, Mike Oghiadomhe and the current Attorney General, Mohammed Bello Adoke) have become stumbling blocks

Although Mrs. Waziri's personal corruption and incompetence serve as major impediments to any meaningful anti-corruption work, EFCC officials have told Saharareporters that since assuming office, Jonathan has gone out of his way to muzzle the EFCC even more. Last week, the AGF Adoke openly chastised the Commission over its mode of operation, asking the agency to jettison its use of strong-arm tactics to fight corruption.

Mr. Adoke’s statement was not specific to any particular case but sources told Saharareporters that one of his points of interference is Taraba State where the EFCC had planned to act on a series of powerful petitions against the governor, who had embezzled large sums of the monies belonging to the state. But Mr. Adoke's wife was quickly appointed as the Attorney General in the state, in order to forestall any further investigation of the case.

Also last week, Mr. Adoke reportedly donated N250 million to the Jonathan campaign to forestall his removal after he said that former military dictator Ibrahim Babangida would not be investigated for stealing $12.4 billion Gulf oil windfall. That statement was said to have rankled the presidency.

Mrs. Waziri’s complaint to the United States complicates Jonathan’s anti-corruption spinelessness. During his visit to the country a few months ago, he swore to the Obama administration and foreign policy specialists that he would move quickly on corruption. That was interpreted partly to mean he would relieve Mrs. Waziri, who is in the bad books of several international anti-corruption agencies, of her job.

Politics / The Man Jega Inec Chair by TonyTone1: 7:15am On Jun 09, 2010
CODER rejects choice of Jega as INEC chair

The Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms (CODER), yesterday, rejected the appointment of the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano (BUK), Prof Attahiru Jega, as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The group described the appointment as "unfortunate", saying that it was a mockery of the campaign of the civil society for electoral reforms.

The Coordinator of the group, Mr Ayo Opadokun, said that the appointment process dishonoured the fine recommendations of the Uwais panel on Electoral Reforms set up by the Yar’Adua Administration.

He said that the frontline Political Scientist may have been attacked by the INEC virus as a consultant to the electoral umpire.

Opadokun doubted if a free and fair election can be guaranteed by President Goodluck Jonathan, who appointed Jega as the INEC boss when he and his party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are interested forces in the 2011 general elections.

‘We have always insisted that, using the current law to appoint a new electoral commission, is like rigging from the source because the sitting executive is partisan. The President and PDP are interested in the next election. Is it fair to ask one of the parties in the contest to appoint the electoral umpire?

‘When Attahiru Jega was the President of ASUU, Maurice Iwu was the deputy Chairman. When Iwu became the chairman, Jega became a consultant to INEC. How can such a man with such a past inspire confidence in Nigerians that he will conduct a free and fair election,? he queried.

Former Chief Whip of the House of Representatives in the Third Republic, Hon Wale Oshun, said that it would have been better for the President to follow the process recommended by the Uwais Committee.

The Action congress (AC) chieftain noted that it was the first time a Northerner would occupy the position. He lamented that Dr Jonathan was toeing the path of his predecessor, the late President Umaru Yar’Adua and PDP which had insisted that the President should retain the appointing authority.

But he said that, since the university don has been appointed, the onus is on him to demonstrate credibility and handle the new assignment with courage and integrity.

" It has smashed the myth that the chairman has always been appointed from the South. It is beautiful that he is from the North. His track record as a unionist in the academic stands him in good stead. He has fought for the good of the members of the academic. He should now fight for the good of Nigerians. He needs courage," Oshun added.

Dismissal of Bukhari Bello as Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria
Posted on 2006/07/02

Front Line is concerned by reports received regarding the removal of Bukhari Bello as Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria on 19 June 2006. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Nigeria is recognised as a national human rights institution by the Coordinating Committee of African Human Rights Institutions in accordance with United Nations Paris Principles, however this removal may pose a threat to the independence and integrity of the NHRC.

Bukhari bello seems like a man with integrity from the looks of his former position, as Executive secretary, But many questions come to mind regarding the present structure of INEC, the police and the greedy politicians who would do anything to hijack ballot boxes or sabotage the system, although to some extent i believe the head of any agency in Nigeria can influence it to change its face, but it goes beyond this guy, in my opinion the Uwais report should also be implemented to back this up!!!!!!!!!!!

Politics / Re: Help With Visa by TonyTone1: 5:16pm On Jul 27, 2009
this situation is a complex one, to the best of my knowledge once u over stay a day after your visa expires you have breached the laws of the land and could be held accountable by not issuing her a visa when next u apply, the mistake she made was that she would have applied for extension in the UK before the visa expired. But as it is now her chances of getting another visa is very slim because they are going to be aware she was here illegally. So my advice is for her go back, first, if shes still in uk, apply from naija then pray hard theres nothing God cannot do!!!!!!!!!!!!! undecided

Politics / Obama Visit To Ghana: A Lesson For Nigerian Office Holders by TonyTone1: 4:27pm On Jul 14, 2009
Well, I really feel this Obama phenomenon blowing around nigerian is a really a shame

You see: Choosing Ghana has exposed the so called giant of Africa status in nigerian profile has crumbled like a pack of cards in the eyes of the whole world, nigeria am sorry to say has been in this facade of being a GAINT, however this has also proved we can still do more to attain this feet once again so that bros obama will come one day. however, i guess when our leaders pick up the pieces of this disaster,( i call it) and show genuine interest in our development, fight against corruption etc. then we can once again attain this greatness we want to be seen as across the african continent. for me Yara dua and co will want to strengthen their effort to impress bros obama from now on just watch the next few weeks !!!!!!!
Travel / Re: My Uk Student Visa Appeal Allowed What Is My Chance For The Visa? by TonyTone1: 3:39pm On Jul 13, 2009
my uk student visa appeal has been allowed but unfurtunately the first school that i gain admission from on which i make the appeal does not give me admission or defer my admission but i have an unconditional admission with another school , does this afect my chance of getting the visa? if i present this new admission letter to the eco

Well congrats on ur appeal victory , it doesnt matter if you changed ur instituition, I had the same case in 2007 and after i won the appeal i discovered the first school i chose wasn t too gud. so i got anoda and submitted with the other documents i was told to come along with like bank statement, so i think you can use it. the other documents you are reqired to take to the embassy will be stipulated in your appeal letter, so just do as they sa. wish u luk.

Meen see ballary 243 bn chai, if efcc can detect 243bn by my estimate it is possible they ill have 3 times that amount collectively stolen , I mean it, cry enough money to create jobs, improve living standard of poor ones in the society, build good hospitals, provide good roads and basic amenities for my people, its a pity I think our laws concerning penalty for looting is not stringent enough to force this guys to back out, if u steal 20bn you get 6 years or plea for bargain. i better steal 900bn, go for plea bargain return half then enjoy my life. NAIJA why, why, YYYYYY!!!
