Kobojunkie:
Please stop making things up! I live in an all white neighbourhood here and have never had any racist issues with my neigbours. There are many africans here as well and they hang out and party with white people and have no such issues. Infact, one could say Africans get along better with white americans here than they do with the black americans. I have even lived deep in the south and in Birmingham alabama, up in the mountainview area which is predominantly white and had a white room mate. No race issues ever arose and no focus on the color of my skin or that of the other Africans who lived there. Can we please start putting things in perspective? There are caucasian racists and black racists. To go around painting racists the color white is ridiculous. Start by dealing with racism in the black community. There are Africans who will boldly tell you that they have had more racist attacks from black americans and fellow africans than they have from caucasians or even chinese.
in the UK i used to get along with white british than with black british. the black british were somewhat aloof. well, i hope to relate better with AA, however i'm yet to really "meet" any. i have a soft spot for the AA, they have been thru a lot. historically and even today. i hope to relate better with them.

obama has done all he will ever do for the AA, that is being who he is today. a story of humility, hope, hardwork and success. i dont think he has any other thing to offer the AA. IF he becomes president, his agenda will change. u'll see. have you noticed that his agenda has already started changing? just after he became nominee? lol. in the unlikely event that he wins u may not recognise president obama grin grin

but his gift to us blacks, is to work hard and be positive regardless of current situation. his life is an example.

Foreign Affairs › Religion, Politics And The United States by toshmann(op): 6:00pm On Aug 08, 2008
i came to the states a few weeks ago and i have noticed quite a lot. i'll go straight to the point
1. the americans are more religious than the europeans but, why do they have white churches and black churches in this country. that is not the christainity i know. so the races cant mix freely even in churches?

2. why are there "political" pastors/churches? churches are so engaged in politics that pastors endorse politicians. now if 2 different pastors endorse 2 different politicians, on whose side is God, or rather, who is on God's side?

3. now i understand(rightly or wrongly) that many black churches lean towards democratic party. and white churches lean towards republican party. whose report should i believe? pastors even preach about policies and politicians in church.

4. how come the south(a.k.a the bible belt) is so associated with militarism, religion and racism more than the north? i really get confused in this country.

any american in the house? pls come educate toshmann

birdman:
i'm not AA but I think a lot of AAs look at these appointees as stooges. Clarence Thomas has nowhere near the clout Thurgood Marshall did. Condi is probably too uppity to care about black issues.

plus the rank and file of the republican party is definitely NOT minority friendly. you can make it as an AA with repubs, but you will work 3x as hard, and still get used (Colin Powell)
hmmmn, interesting. but. . about your last sentence, i was made to understand that the average AA has to work 3x as hard to make it in america (not just in republican party but in america as a whole)

anyway, you wear the shoe, you know better.

aahhh, my man debo  cheesy long time no see. o' boy toshmann de suffer here o, i de try adapt to this society.

debosky:
This is just one side of the story - what makes Africans so distrusting of one another in the first place?

Is it the bad experiences they've gotten while dealing with fellow Africans? Is it because you sometimes get shabby treatment simply because 'thats how it is back home'?

Is it because of the prevalent noisy and rowdy environment in some of these businesses or their poor marketing/organisation?

Its easy to blame people for not patronizing Africans/African owned establishments, but in the end, people are not as stupid as you think - they will still try to go where they will get the best value for money, with race and colour being a secondary consideration.

I accept these things do happen, but a great responsibility lies with the business owners - be ready to give quality service and products and people will patronise you. The doctor/nurse thing is more of oyibo craze, but in wider society, we simply must raise the standards of doing business in the black/African community.
in summary, there should be no complaints or bad feelings when whiteys snub blacks and no complaints when nigerians recieve a not-so-nice treatment b/c of their accent or color of their passport(and of course skin color)
:Deal?

prejudice, we are all guilty as charged   cool

This is great for the AA who doesn't like to work, go to school and get a job.
in summary, the democratic party has used AA for political advantage without really helping them solve the real problems facing that community. it may be time to have a re-think, innit?

i'm new to the US so i have little knowledge of the intricate issues affecting AA and indeed race in the US but i really need to know why a group of people will insist on just one party. and that one party has not helped them much.

i am yet to get some concrete answers to the question george bush asked in 2004 . .
is the democrat party taking you(african americans) for granted?

the VRA uspry1 talked about has been re-authorised my many republican presidents. how come nobody talks about the desegregation movement. when president eisenhower (republican) asked federal troops to protect african american students who were at risk in schools that didnt want them.

what has the democrats done for blacks in america?

is that really enough reason for the blind support from african americans? what you stand for versus what you are really doing? how is the AA advantaged by the democrats?

bush posed this question in 2004. i'm yet to hear a tangible answer.
Foreign Affairs › Honest Question For African Americans? by toshmann(op): 4:15am On Aug 07, 2008
pls this is simple and straight forward.

is the democrat party taking you guys for granted? with overwhelming support for the dems, since the 60s, i'm yet to be convinced that there is much to show for it.

yet it is the republicans who appointed the first black secretary of state, first black female sec of state( it was rumoured that powell was asked to be VP he declined, saying he would prefer sec of state. not sure if its true)

first black chief justice(?not sure) appointed by republicanshuhhuhnot sure

did i mention that the republican party supervised the end of slavery in the US?

what has the democrats done for african americans? educate me. i may not know.

You're really pushing your 'white man copulation' concept, aren't ya? Let's assume for one drug induced moment that it is true, do you have any idea how many Igbo women that will 'copulate' with oyibo for that to happen? Foreign Affairs › Re: Why Is Fox News Out To Paint Obama "black"? by toshmann(m): 4:27pm On Jul 26, 2008
SeanT21:
Have You ever in your life seen FOX news. Everyone and their mother knows fox news is racist. They are always saying something negative about Barack Obama. Just take a look at FOX news for 10 seconds. When Jesse Jackson called Obama a racist, they played it 10 times in one hour. When The New Yorker did that racist cover of Obama, They showed the cover more than anything else. There is a big difference between hating a canadaite and TEARING HIM DOWN!! The only people that watch fox news are racist rednecks from the hills of West Virginia.

Please Do NOT TAKE UP FOR THEM!!

NEW YORK, July 23 (Reuters) - Protesters gathered on Wednesday outside Fox News Channel to denounce what they claim is its racist campaign coverage, including a pundit who called Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama a terrorist.

The crowd of some 150 people wielded a petition with more than 600,000 signatures objecting to news coverage by Fox, owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp (NWSa.N: Quote, Profile, Research), organizers said.

Some demonstrators held signs that crossed out the network's "Fair and Balanced" slogan and replaced it with the words "Fairly Racist!"

Led by activist groups MoveOn.org and ColorOfChange.org, protesters cited incidents on Fox including an on-screen graphic calling Michelle Obama "Obama's baby mama" and a pundit who confused Obama with Osama bin Laden and joked they should both be assassinated.

Another anchor called a televised fist bump between Obama and his wife a "terrorist fist jab," they said, and talk show host Bill O'Reilly discussed calling a "lynching party" to deal with Michelle Obama after criticizing her patriotism.

"Putting racism on national television and calling it news is never funny," said Andre Banks of ColorOfChange.

Joining the protest was hip hop star Nas, who said the Fox coverage inspired a song "Sly Fox" on his new album.

"Fox poisons this country every time they air racist propaganda and try and call it news," he said. Continued,
A spokeswoman for Fox said: "Fox News believes in all protesters exercising their right to free speech, including Nas, who has an album to promote."

(Reporting by Nancy Leinfuss, Editing by Ellen Wulfhorst and Eric Beech)
my dear sister,
i started watching fox news when i was in naija. fox news will tear down any democrat. they did it to clinton, they are doing it now even to edwards, they will do it anytime to any democrat. edwards was once said to have sworn never to have anything to do with fox news. fox news tore john kerry apart. and even senator barbara boxer(white, democrat) was torn apart for a statement she made against . . . . . .condy rice(black republican).

question. . .
has fox news ever torn down collin powel? even when he decieved the world in the UN security council. did fox news tear him down?
have they torn down Condy Rice? with all her bush policies and foreign policy activities. have they torn her apart?

this is politics. if jesus christ should come down to US as a democrat, trust me, fox news will tear him down. even worse than the pharisees. FYI, fox news was established to tear democrats apart. it was established by the right to counter the usually left leaning mainstream media. that is their primary objective and they are doing it well. they are the "extreme right". another reason why it was irritating to see hillary "dancing" with fox news
