TravelRe: My Journey To Hanoi, Vietnam by tosinhtml: 10:21pm On Jul 13, 2024
No matter what anyone says, I will never encourage anyone to go to Vietnam. Economically the place is dead, we are suppose to be economic migrants, If a place is not doing better than Nigeria economically, then why go there.

A developer job with Gameloft. The money they wanted to pay was the same I was earning in Nigeria and the money no even do me for Naija so automatic rejection of the offer.
Ooo anything I read Vietnam, I used to get traumatised. I had an interview with a company there in 2018, that was the meanest and worst interview ever. After 6 rounds of interviews, they made me an offer, and the money was so bad that I started crying. There were 6 difficult interview stages.

I did:

1st Interview - Codility
2nd - Engineering manager interview
3rd - Take home test
4th - Whiteboard Live Coding - pair to pair interview
5th - Design challenge & Refactoring a code within specified time
6th - Live Interview with 6 Developers throwing questions at me.

I could have asked them upfront about the pay range but because I was desperate, I just believed the offer will be good as an International company. I also did not research very well about Vietnam because that country's economic value is in shambles even though they have great social amenities, 24/7 power & good roads.

A friend of mine who travelled to Vietnam 10 years ago came back with nothing, all the money he made there was peanuts, In fact I was better off in Nigeria financially when he came back, now he is desperately trying to relocate to Australia via the Australia Skilled Select program but every thing is super tight atm. Now he is stuck in Nigeria.

I'm a 31 year old graphic designer running two jobs & I'm quite comfortable financially but very busy.
I hardly have free time. Planning to drop one of those jobs so I can have time complete my frontend Dev training & manage the other job for now, I can use react/next to an extent, I set a target of 3 - 6 months to complete the training. I just want to know if its worth it. I need advice of experienced programmers here, Thanks.
You need to be aware that to be elevated in your career and exceptionally good at what you do, then it means you have to choose one.

If you want to go fully into Freelancing (Upwork, Fiverr etc) then having both skill is great but if you want to have a steady 9-5, then you have to choose one. Only crappy Nigerian companies hire one person to do both jobs, designer & Front-end developer.

Secondly, you will need to move from "Graphic Designer" tag to "Product Designer" in the future because that is where the career path is, so that you can work for companies like Toptal etc.

Choose your career path early, else you'd be caught in limbo in the future.

How can you wake up in the morning and go to a health care facility in Nigeria and expect to get good seevice?

Once I step into any healthcare facility either government owned or private owned I always expect the worse.Sometimes it turns out good and they give good service, but my mind is always conditioned to expect nonsense.

Truth be told those guys are over stretched and always at the verge of anger almost always.
As long as It is not a government owned facility, I have always gotten good services from private hospitals and clinics in Lagos. So it might be your location.

The picture was taken sometime in 2006/7. And he was single then. This man had a first class in Economics from OAU and got his first job way before he met his first wife.

In all of this, you people are accusing a man who wants to fulfil a part of his religion. This is not Yul or someone from Akwa Ibom. This is a Yoruba Muslim man who has decided to marry another wife. He is no different from the average Kano indigene or Saudi Arabian. If you so much hate polygamy, please don't marry a Muslim.

How hard can this be?
I sincerely do not understand the premise of this argument myself, I was trying to follow-up the conversation from the get-to but couldn't keep up. So we have a Muslim man who wants to marry a second wife but Christians or non-christians on the forum are all upset that a muslim man wants to do just as a Muslim man would do.

There is also another narrative that she suffered with him which was not true because he got his job and built himself up on his own.

The wife being against it is not a surprise because she has to defend her territory due to what the religion allows. It is also acknowledged that very wealthy muslim individuals end up being polygamous, EG: Sanusi Lamido as being one of those enlightened muslims that are still polygamous.

Thanks I forgot but it is expensive the developer said he needs supports to continue the project . Flutter, MAUI, React Native and compose multi platform are free .
Yes I totally understand that aspect, and I think companies like intelliJ or Google can even purchase his company and implement his solution because it is awesome. I saw that he ran both iOS and Android app all with one button. I was seriously impressed.

The best bet he can get is for a larger company to adopt his company and pay him millions of dollars.

That isnhow Firebase, Android etc was created, Google purchase Firebase and the Android technologies for a separate company to build on it.
ProgrammingRe: Building Ios And Android Apps With Skip With Swiftui by tosinhtml: 12:13am On Jun 30, 2024
You forgot to add the pricing lol.

Professional $99 / month $999 / year
Small Business* $29 / month $299 / year

Apart from that, it looks great on the eye, I think when It comes to building complex apps, tweaking database structures, implementing clean architecture and others, then it becomes complex to use Skip.

Skip is a paid service which companies will not want to pay for knowing they would still require hiring devs and paying them monthly or on contractual basis, skip can decide to increase their subscription and then you're stuck on their technology.

It is also bad for Freelancers, If someone hires me on Upwork to create an App, and I deliver it with Skip, that means for the client to upgrade the features of the app tomorrow, the next developer the client hires has to heavily rely on Skip as well. It is a lose-lose situation.

But Compose Multiplatform Native UI is free to use, we can also use AI (Chatgpt and Gemini) to convert Kotlin to Swift when we need to, so why would I want to pay for a service when Gemini is free.

Just for correctness of information.

Husband filed for divorce in 2019, married again 2022, the husband got divorced the 3rd time last year 2023 and then now another marriage 2024. Under 6months too, so it is less than 2 years.

First of all you made a big mistake giving her 700k as upkeep in this economy, and unless you're saying you don't know your wife very well, you should have known how she is especially with money and help cut down on many things. 700k is too much to spend in a month and still say it's too small. What if you could only bring 100k, won't your family survive? Cut down drastically and enforce a certain level of management with her. If she is not willing to help and adjust then you have a problem in your hands.
He was probably a big money spender before marriage, you know those people that enter lounge/beer parlour or club and the hype man starts singing Odogwu, ODOGWU has Arrived.

I don't have anything against self-proclaimed odogwus but Nigerians aren't aware that once you start something with a lady, you have to maintain that standard.

And NO, house wives do not contribute more. I will retain this opinion until Jesus comes, I have done both more than 5 years each & I can tell & say categorically that taking care of kids is easier than earning a liveable wage in this harsh economy.

Hello people,
Please I need some advice.
We live in PH, and have 4 kids. The oldest is 10 while the youngest is 6. I give my wife 700k every month, and this includes general upkeep and maintenace and fuelling of our car (Lexus 330). I don't drive the car (I dey leg, while she uses it to run around, which includes school runs and her business).

I no dey chuk eye for her business. Bu I am getting frustrated as she still makes me believe that the money is not enough. I pay electricity bill (band A) and house rent (3m pa) yet every now and then she puts bills on my head. It is driving me crazy.

When I tell her to list out her expenses so I plan with her, she picks offence. I am really tired of the whole thing and don't know how else to approach the issue without causing too much problem. I know some men whose salaries are 250k-300k in PH, yet they are surviving.
The problem started in the early years of the marriage, you exposed yourself financially. Most women are not good with money and they do not save for the rainy day. They spend this way because they have never had to be self sufficient in their lives. Most times only women who are 1st born daughters of the families have the savings mindset, some do not even care because their livelihood has never depended on them alone.

You definitely exposed yourself financially to your wife in such a way where she wants to exhaust all that is available until you are down bad. Please note that this is not same as gold digging, that's another thing entirely. This is simply financial indiscipline.

The solution is to either fake a job loss, or some financial set back in your business.

Sooner most men will learn that love is different from finance and should not be mixed together.

jamesversion:
The issue with Bayelsa, nay Ijaw areas in the Niger Delta is the absence of proper habitable land. The terrain is mostly swamps and mangroves which without intensive capital expenditure will be largely uninhabitable. For example, take the East West Road, see the sections that passes through Ikwerreland, Ogoni land, Akwa Ibom etc and check the section that pass through bayelsa. The Bayelsa section is deplorable due to terrain.

Almost everywhere in Ijawland need serious sandfilling, which is capital intensive before reasonable work can be carried out. So don't expect serious development there.

Use Google map and zoom into Bayelsa and Ijaw parts of Rivers state and see how scanty there villages are. No amount of online revisionism can change what they are. It has never been about the size of bayelsa but the liveability.
This is very informative, but at the same time I think there should be a big Sea Port in Bayelsa. People should not have any business coming to Lagos for any reasons at all.

The comparison between animals and humans is not a good way to explain this thing.

I see people use it everytime because it suits their narrative but it is wrong. It is worse than comparing apple and orange.

Humans are way different from animals. If you put 100 women and 100 men in a cage, 20 men won't be dating all the 100 women.

IRL, there are women hotter than Yvonne Jegede that are happy with their husband in a face me and face you apartment.

It's the reason your class rep wasn't dating all the girls in your department in school.
LOL you lacks experience, If women in 1st World countries such as Singapore prefer men who earn more than they do, then why would you ever think women from your own 3rd world country would do the opposite.

Humans are similar to animals more than you'd think and in fact there are too many evidences for that, the only differentiating factor is rule of law. That is why Nigerians behave like animals as we have no rule of law.

I can Indeed tell you categorically that 20 men will likely date all the 100 women in a cage. Using real life examples, as someone who frequents Lagos Island environs, less than 10% of the wealthy men who live in Lagos Island environs date majority of the women living in that same environment. The people buying luxury houses, cars, jewellery and trips for all those women are the same few men.

IRL, there are women hotter than Yvonne Jegede that are happy with their husband in a face me and face you apartment.

For the independent contractor which skills are important to have.
Any skills you can be hired full time on, you can also be a contractor with it. It just means you set up a limited liability company & you do your taxes and all your insurance yourself. You get paid as a company and not as individual.
TravelRe: Memoirs From Chile by tosinhtml:
tensazangetsu20:
Independent contractor in what country? Is it an independent contractor in Europe or where. If it's to work in the US with your EU passport it's still insanely difficult except on an L1 company visa transfer which I can get from here in Chile too by working for a US company locally. If it's to go work in the US, that's where the Chilean passport beats all of the European passports as Chileans have a work visa to work in the US similar to the TN visa enjoyed by Canadians and Mexicans and the E3 visa enjoyed by Australians. You only need to find an employer in the US willing to sponsor. The process is completely different. Now if you acquire the Chilean nationality and want to gain European nationality, this is also very easy to do. You only need to live in Spain for two years. Getting a job in Spain from Chile is very easy. I have done interviews with companies in Spain and the salaries they were offering me was shit except one company but I ultimately couldn't leave to move to Spain. God forbid
Independent contractor in EU is very lucrative especially UK and Germany. You are paid daily rate and it is enough to set you up for life if you do that for 3 - 5 years. You need to have a passport or be a Permanent Resident to be an independent contractor.

You can earn 650 - 700 pounds per day as a Mid-level independent contractor. As a senior or principal you can earn 1,000. Even with 40% tax, that money is still a lot.

There is money every where, it depends on what papers you have and the skills you have.
TravelRe: Memoirs From Chile by tosinhtml: 11:55am On Jun 06, 2024
tensazangetsu20:
This is the koko. Honestly, if you are a professional Chile is a much better deal. I am not a senior level programmer. I am more mid level and I have gotten offers equivalent to 4000 usd here in Chile. Tax here is just 15 percent. In Europe to get what you are getting here as net with the crazy taxes, you need to be earning like 80000 euros. How many jobs in Europe pay that. People work for years and only get like 50000 euros annually. The only thing I will say is that Chile isn't an ideal place to do hustle jobs as those pay minimum wage.
Lemme understand well, is the argument about Chile vs EU? I mean, are we comparing one country to the whole of EU. Maybe that is one mistake we are making. We should perhaps compare Chile with one particular EU country instead.

If you have an EU passport, you can work as an independent contractor and earn like 150k Euros. For those that do not posses a passport, they manage the 50k Euros annual job like that. Immigrants have no choice than to take what they are given.

Tax is also high, Germany has the highest tax system that I know on paper. Funny as it sounds. UK has a lower tax system and higher pay than all of EU except Switzerland. If you have a UK passport and work as a contractor, you can easily become a millionaire in 3 years.

You might not be largely successful but you will not be hungry or beg for food, that's the difference.

The choices and assistance that each individual receives in each instance are not seen in the situations given.

Looking back, I would not have realised that the majority of my elementary school classmates who excelled in Mathematics as kids did so because they had frequent tutoring.

Never undervalue the assistance that each person receives in making decisions.
