Politics / Re: Foreign Help To Solve Niger Delta Crisis by ToToChoper: 6:46pm On Jun 01, 2007
Indeed, there is a spell on Nigeria and its embracement of humiliation and mediocrity.
Were it not for this, we wouldn’t have the dogs at the helm of power jostling for crumbs from the basket of the Imperialists USA.
Were it not for this, our leaders would be ashamed to dance along with the World's beguiled Democratic country.

I read of when Kissinger wanted to visit Nigeria. Murtala Ramat Muhammed told him NO!!! Africa has come of age.
Unfortunately, Murtala was assasinated and Obasanjo, the lapdog of Robert McNamara (who by the way was the infidel who incited Obj to call for the "decarbonizing" of African brains - only God knows what that means) - came to power.

As a newly SELECTED President; Yaradua, you cannot appoint accountable able men and women (like Condo Rice) from Nigeria willing to be pacifiers on the Niger Delta issue, but you'ld rather spend money to invite a white man from another country to solve Nigeria's problems.

See, the folks in the Niger delta area already know of the strong economic interest of these Foreign countries in their area. They are not dumb folks.
And when our FG debase us by signing up to sing to the tunes and hobnobs of America rather than provide basic amenities like tarred roads, electricity, jobs, world class hospitals, etc in an area where the BULK of our country's wealth lies, what do you expect?

By the way, who is Yaradua's adviser?
Politics / Re: We, Nigerians Should Rally Around President Yar'Adua by ToToChoper: 5:14pm On Jun 01, 2007
But nothing beats a balance!!
The rancour regarding our last presidential elections is based on electoral grievance, and you'll find that the next elections may turn out to be filled with even more rancour or end up being an appeasement process. I have nothing grave against Yaradua, except him accepting to be a pun in this political game. His intentions could be great for our country, who knows? I support MERITOCRACY.
But our elections don't have to always be near-the-cliff-edge or national crisis all the time.

The presidential candidates of the next elections know that PDP is going to be the party to beat, not because of the CREDENTIALS OF THE candidate it's going to present but because PDP is the "government party" with the means to CONTROL the electoral process to its own benefit even by RIGGING ELECTIONS, that is my GRIPE. This doesn't in any fashion show a representation by voters.

Politics / Re: Yar Adua can Fit Into The Shoes Of Awolowo. by ToToChoper: 5:50pm On May 29, 2007
One cannot juxtapose the two; Yaradua and Awolowo by any standards other than the fact they were teachers and both are(were) politicians.

And with politics, while Awolowo remains an icon in Nigerian history as ELECTED the 1st leader of the West even before our independence, Yaradua on the other hand is merely a product our corrupt Presidential election, dubiously SELECTED by the contriving outgoing President.

In plain English, Yaradua is Obasanjo’s bitch for life…, a favor for a favor

Indeed Professor Wole Soyinka has my utmost respect in a lot of ways, and not just speaking of Nigeria alone. However, I do not support corruption of any sorts. Therefore, if he is found with his hands dirty he needs to do what is moral and ethical right, that is to face justice.

I think a lot of folks would respect him even more this way.

-sounding like a hype man today.

Our discourse here is becoming quite a good laugh.
Positions taken on various sides of the divide, now appearing too rigid to even make room for any meaningful debate. Need i remind you, for someone with a known backing for IBB, I beg to question your motive though.
Politics / Re: We, Nigerians Should Rally Around President Yar'Adua by ToToChoper: 7:42pm On May 22, 2007
After all that is said, at the end of the day, the people still know the truth.
Problem still lingers!!!
Hopefully, we learn from our past experiences though, including others (Liberia, Dakar, Somalia, etc).

But I say one thing, our problem is NOT that we are slow in getting our electoral footing up to walk. The problem is that we are ALREADY walking, but in the WRONG DIRECTION!!!

This is reality, come Yaradua or anybody else.

One Nigeria, one love!

NOTE: First i be naija gon, get that into your block head rallying up and down Yaradua blindly.

Next, personal nickel and dime deals at the great expense of our nation's economy isn't WONDER to us.
Politics / Re: We, Nigerians Should Rally Around President Yar'Adua by ToToChoper: 4:50pm On May 22, 2007
Allow me to point out this one salient issue to ponder/add on before we put an end to this discussion.
See, we all can rant and rave about our comatose electoral process, but nothing changes the very obvious - that sadly, there are self-aggrandizing few of us out there even as we discuss, just waiting to reap huge benefits out of this ever resounding quagmire. All other plans about the election to them is unnecessary.

Thus I say, rather than rally around the supposedly HONEST Yaradua to purport peace, let’s challenge him to do right and reflect that honesty.

Let’s challenge him to stop the vaudeville act in our polling stations and electoral offices - we wouldn't have over 200 dead if not for it.

Also very importantly, let's challenge this HONEST Yaradua to move Nigeria forward and not backward by appointing incorruptible persons into office (and not those who are already widely known to have plundered our wealth such as the likes of the EVIL GENIUS and those ex-military personnel).

Without these, i can almost bet we will see this again and again.

I was indisposed to peeping into this thread much earlier, but I see a few toes and bunions have been stamped on.

@Iyke-D
This isn’t personal but I must say I am the least disturbed by your tone in your last posting and your one-side view of progress towards a better Nigeria our fore fathers would be proud of. Matter of fact, your sign off severely damages your credibility as a true Nigerian in tune with what is really going on. That would be more appropriately scribbled on the walls of restroom toilet-stalls or your T-shirt than on nairaland.
While I see your challenge, I smell your contempt and fury. Sorry I won't fight you o my brother, ndo. What saddens me though is your incapability of logically thinking in truth by sheepishly joining a rally for a new Nigeria rooted with election rigs and political thieves. But I pray in the end like your mentality one sheep jumps, the other jumps too, we expose all the corruption and injustice finally.

Attacking my username….haba, u sabi fight everything o!!!
Obo tutu re! (laugh). Abeg dress go !!!

Back to the point.
Do you expect fellow landers and the general Nigerian populace to lose their rational thinking for Big B1’s brainwash for peace albeit the mago magoism and recycled thieves in the camp?

We have to do things right and this isn't how.

Politics / Re: We, Nigerians Should Rally Around President Yar'Adua by ToToChoper: 5:35pm On May 18, 2007
Mallam Big B1,
this is an important issue that i take to heart, so understand my drive.
I believe that we are both pointing in the same direction, only that you are using a different spectacle. That is okay though.

You see one of the problems with our Nigeria is that a few of us have declared an unwillingness to be part of a honest progress in our country. For those of you that fall in this category, this is what i say to you "drink, drink on nah God go catch una one day".

For clarity, nobody is vying for MEND, but there are many Nigerians tired of the injustice and mockery in our government. There are many of us tired of sugar-coated politicians who make good promises before getting in offfice, but on getting there, the only result we get is shame, disappointment and thievery.

Even more, also for clarity, those retired Generals campaigning for Yardua's administration, do you think they are there to smile at the people?

What I am clamouring for is a change in Nigeria. For a system of checks and balance, OF TRUTH AND ACCOUNTABILITY because without this we are not going no where.

The rallying and posting behind the dumb Yaradua is uncalled for. He doesn't reflect confidence and reasurance for the people. I'm even sure if he finds himself in the wrong places in Lagos (eg. Oshodi, Kirikiri, Ajengunle) if care is not taken even small picken go chance am of his candidature.

@Iyke-D
I can only have fruitful and intellectual discussion with a sane mind and although it is very tempting to respond to your post, such an act is simply a waste of my time.

Why everything with naija elections be mago mago, wayo and wuru wuru to the answer?

Mr self acclaimed Peace Officer aka PDP boy boy aka Mallam Big B1,

you know what really irks me is the self denial and lack of true peace in your heart and in the state of the Nigeria people. Your indebtedness to the popular normadic herdsman; Yaradua and his undemocratic PDP has impeded your sound judgement of the contraption in his party of political vagabons.
Surely, I am absolutely and totally disgusted with our last election, and so are many.
You truly know that the election was free (partly i must add) but was definitely NOT FAIR. So why come out here to promote a transition based on falsehood under the auspices of peace?
Peace or what?

Is it really peace for the poltical parasites that abound the lead party or a restive state of mind in the poor Nigerians who seemingingly have no voice and no one to trust?

The world laughing at us and u screaming peace, in pretense supporting permanent interest.

What we need in Nigeria is a revampment and  (Pastor,  now) Obasanjo's puppeted president elect; Yaradua is his plan to reorganize the fat-bellied vicious thieves in his administration not to remove them and have them subjected to prosecution by the law.

I am in support of a free and fair election.

I am also in support of a new president by the people for the people, and not by the preceding president.
Politics / Re: We, Nigerians Should Rally Around President Yar'Adua by ToToChoper: 6:12pm On May 17, 2007
I don't know why boy-boy PDP sluggards will always like to make themselves known, (imagine for the purpose of peace). Na u be their Peace officer?  Abi u don chop your own after the election, now u wan begin work.

This just goes to show the myopic and flawed views of Yaradua supporters.

THE ELECTION WAS RIGGED PERIOD!!!

And everybody knows PDP promotes political thuggery at great heights compared to the other parties. If nah lie, go ask OBJ wey be una papa, (do or die affair). Even the ugly and dumb Mallam wey resemble monkey una wan make be President go run away any potential international investors from Nigeria.

Person wey no know when to stop drinking "kunu" e don spoil im kidney, nahim go hear u say stop eating Nigeria's money. Abegi

Education / Re: When Is ASUU Calling Off The Strike? by ToToChoper: 9:50pm On May 16, 2007
I read this morning that lecturers wont return back to their classrooms until after May 29.
http://allafrica.com/stories/200705160726.html

This is what I have been saying. If the supposedly new government does not make education one of its top priorities, we stand no chance of progressing as a nation.
Most people will like to blame Nigerians abroad for Nigeria's woes (the brain drain) while the main problem is left untouched.
It is like someone who was home when his house caught fire, but instead of putting it off he leaves it to raze the house and later blames the fire service for not making it on time.

This is my frustration with Nigeria, young brains that will make Nigeria great are not being cared for. Little wonder why our youths will do whatever it takes to escape such hopelessness and no one should ever blame them.
Car Talk / Re: Nigerian Made Car by ToToChoper: 8:43pm On May 16, 2007
Naijadey, keep dreaming bad dreams of how to build a car called Naijasko or Nabisco. You don't even know how to make chin-chin and doughnut and even dry plaintain (kpekere) and you are dreaming of building Naijasko.

If you want to be a millionaire, start with moulding clay pots for freezing water like one Aboki did and named it the International Hausa Fridge from Gombe (IHFG).

Even sef, even if you wan build Naijasco, you think that FG will assist you, problem with Nigeria.

This is a funny one.Read on,
Welcome to Nigeria Airways!

Good morning,Ladies and Gentlemen. This is your captain welcoming you on board of Nigeria Airways.

We apologize for the four-day delay in taking off,it was due to bad weather and some overtime i had to put
in at the bakery.

This is flight 126 to Lagos.Landing in Lagos is not guaranteed,
but we will end up somewhere in the west.If luck is on our side we may be landing in you village!

Nigeria Airways has an excellent safety record.Infact, our safety standards are so high that even the terrorists are afraid to fly with us!

It is with pleasure,I announce that starting this year over 50% of our passengers have reached their destination.

If our engines are too noisy for you,on passenger request, we can arrange to turn them off!

To make your free fall to earth pleasant and memorable,we serve complimentary Bongo tea and okin biscuits!

For our not-so-religious passengers, we are the only airline who can help you find out if there really is a God!

We regret to inform you, that today`s in-flight movie will not be shown as we forgot to record it from the television.
But for our movie buffs, we will be flying right next to Air Barka, where their movie will be visible from the right side of the cabin window.

There is no smoking allowed in this airplane.Any smoke you see in the cabin is only the early warning system on the engines telling us to slow down!

In order to catch important landmarks, we try to fly as close as possible for the best view. If, however, we go a little too close, do
let us know. Our enthusiastic co-pilot sometimes flies right objects in his way!

Kindly be seated, keep you seat in an upright position for take-off and fasten you seat-belt.For those of you who can`t find a seat-belt, kindly fasten your own belt to the arm of your seat,
and for those of you who can`t find a seat, do not hesistate to get in touch with a stewardess who will explain how to fasten yourself to your suitcase.

Health / Re: Pure Drinking Water by ToToChoper: 7:17pm On May 16, 2007
@Seun, according to the directed page on wiki, boiling doesn't cut it
Besides that, only God knows where the water is percolating from.
Here is what it states:

Boiling: Water is heated hot enough and long enough to inactivate or kill micro-organisms that NORMALLY live in water AT ROOM TEMPERATURE,  In areas where the water is "hard" (that is, containing significant dissolved calcium salts), boiling decomposes the bicarbonate ions, resulting in PARTIAL precipitation as calcium carbonate. This is the "fur" that builds up on kettle elements, etc., in hard water areas.

With the exception of calcium, boiling DOES NOT REMOVE SOLUTES of higher boiling point than water and in fact INCREASES their concentration (due to some water being lost as vapour). Boiling does not leave a residual disinfectant in the water. Therefore, water that has been boiled and then stored for any length of time may have acquired new pathogens.

As for me, I'll go for chlorinated (and fluoridated water) boiled water over just boiled water.

The water treated with UV rays i heard is a new project in water purification in developed countries. It supposedly destroys the DNA in microbes killing the pathogen. I'm not too sure about it though because exposure of certain chemicals to UV rays triggers a reaction, (wont want that for drinking water).

Anyway, all in all, na God dey save us for this country.
Education / Amassing Degrees: The Only Way Out ? by ToToChoper: 5:33pm On May 16, 2007
Nigerians are fond of rolling out lots and lots of paper qualifications - certifications, degrees e.t.c. but when the time to put these into use arises we just can not use them.
For example, I know some Nigerian trained Engineers working in the oil industries in Nigeria and treated like second class citizens by whites who know that the company is doomed without them.
Why do we possess the same certifications with the whites, pass exams with very high grades yet take the back seat when it is time to put this to use.
Health / Pure Drinking Water by ToToChoper: 5:20pm On May 16, 2007
One of the problems Nigerians at large are currently facing is obtaining pure drinking water.
Some of our water sources include bore holes, wells, streams and tap (which is ocassional typhoid infested).

To drink water that is free of germs, you can drink just pure bottled water, which is supposed to be devoid of any kind of microscopic organisms. You could also boil the water. This works because most microbes cannot survive at the boiling point of water ( thermophiles can)

The problem with these methods is that they are expensive for the common man, and time-consuming to produce.

Do you all have any suggestions?

I heard of a project imploying the use of UV rays on water.
