Interesting.
They may need to ask Shell why their environmental practices in that region are worse than elsewhere.
Somehow, I suspect there may be a local connection as well. |

naijaking1: For people used to inaccurate and misleading census, no wonder many people here don't appreciate Rickblack's perspective. Any method likely to show Nigeria's real and true ethnic proportionality is condenmed. Why did we not want tribe listed during the census? Because, the results were already predetermined, and the ruling minority assigned majority proportions--- after all that's how the federal cake is divided. So don't make fun of social demographic of Nigerians, because when you combine the figures with other studies, such as satelite, school enrollment, hospital admission and birth/death rate, then you begin to see census figures quite different from those released by Hausa people. @ bolded: not necessarily so. It must be a headache to rule Nigerians, I swear. |

Ibime: Yorubas are probably less tribal. . . . we discussed in the culture thread why Yorubas do not go back to their village for Christmas and we saw that many Yorubas do not identify too much with their village or town, but rather the city they live in. @ bolded: You saw wrong. The vast majority of Yorubas identify strongly with their hometowns and villages, regardless where they actually live. |

don't know about these statistics on facebook. Igbos are generally very community oriented, so a facebook group called Young Fly and Igbo is likely to quickly fill up and have a lot of members. Its quite rare for an Igbo person not to identify with fellow Igbos. A facebook group called Young Fly and Yoruba, on the other hand, will have some Yorubas, but it doesnt mean the majority of Yorubas on Facebook are members of this group. Some Yorubas will see it and still pass on by, not bothering to join, or else wanting to stay in their own clique elsewhere. Take me for example. I'm Yoruba and active on nairaland yet I've only checked the Yoruba thread (see below) maybe twice. Never posted there either. Why? I find the discussions hard to follow. What I'm saying is I'm not sure the group numbers are an accurate yardstick to base a categorical statement on. Check this out: Igbo kwenu thread, Join us if you can speak Igbo/are proud to be Igbo: 17059 replies, 78455 views.
Yoruba speaking thread: Join us if you can speak Yoruba: 4746 replies, 34840 views.draw conclusions then look at some other data: Igbo Kwenu thread: first post July 2006.
Yoruba thread: first post April 2007.https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/board-55.0.htmlIgbo kwenu thread was started almost a year before Yoruba speaking thread. This is one of the facts which should be considered in order to make an informed analysis of the initial information. Am not sure how many Igbos there are in general, but I do know they're very community oriented, and tend to respond to anything that involves the culture. |

KarmaMod: Other countries would be just as Dirty if not for the fact that they get a HEAVY FINE for littering.
if Nigeria can install such laws and actually SEE to it that they are enforced, I'm sure the amount of filth would decrease 100% AGREE.Very interesting thread though I almost barfed in my yogurt at Siena's last post. tru talk though. Defecating etc shouldnt be done in public. I mean, these are grown people who should know better, illiterate or not. They arent disabled in any way so they really have no excuse. @ T Pain: don't assume everyone you see peeing on the street, is an illiterate. |

Both Seun and the OP are right. The miscommunication here is that the thread title could be open to misinterpretation by daft people.
People should keep their trash inside their vehicles. Why would you open your car window to throw something out? Keep it in your car until you get to your destinaton.
And folks should stop peeing on the street plz. Privates should be kept private nah.
Its a well known fact that lagos and many other Nigerian cities are overcrowded. Thats why its majorly cities that have this problem of excessive trash, and not the villages. Short of the government declaring a state of emergency on the trash problem like Italy did, it would be hard to get people organized enough to handle the mountains of trash generated by overcrowding. |

In a polygamic situation, does for better for worse still apply? I don't think so. More like every man for himself and every woman for herself and her children. Taking multiple vows with multiple partners invalidates them all, imo. anyway, I hope he gets better. He should go to a proper hospital in the English speaking west, by the way. Nothing secret about his condition now. |

haba- is it by force to part with your kidney?
What about the other wife or wives- why can't they donate theirs? Or brothers, sisters, relatives, etc?
And why must it be a wife's kidney they must use? Are they trying to kill the woman before her time? I'm sure they can find other donors if they keep looking.
Wishing him the best of luck however.
besides, the article may be exaggerating. |
