RomanceRe: The Guy Begging by tpia: 7:54pm On Jul 08, 2008
why is she feeling so big with her OND? Isnt she supposed to go on and get an HND or college degree as well?

The guy is a school cert today, who knows what he may be tomorrow.

English can be learned.

If she has no other reason for dumping him then she needs to rethink. undecided

The issue is too frivolous. She can still date a Britico sounding guy with perfect English, who will treat her like crap.

Forget all the Nairaland yabbing of bad English. It's a problem with a solution, not the other way round.
Foreign AffairsRe: Spain Extends Human Rights To Gorillas And Chimpanzees by tpia: 7:35pm On Jul 08, 2008
Some critics questioned why Spain should afford legal protection from death or torture to great apes but not bulls
nice to know they still have a couple of people with a little sense.

I'm sure the bulls Spain tortures inhumanely every year, also need this kind of protection they're extending to their ape brothers.
PoliticsRe: Hausa Community Wants Commissioner Slot In Lagos by tpia: 7:27pm On Jul 08, 2008
I thought the Igbo commisioner in Lagos state was appointed as a Lagosian and not as an Igbo commissioner?

The ruler, who said his people were not in competition with other tribes residing in the state was however of the belief that "if Igbo can have a commissioner in the state, whatever qualifies them also qualifies Arewa people to also have a commissioner in the state."
ie he was appointed on the basis of his skills and qualifications, as well as being the best person for the job, and not because the "Igbo want to have a commissioner in the state".

maybe I'm assuming wrong sha.

the fourth Serikin Hausa of Lagos State, Alhaji Aminu Idris Yaro has appealed to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) and members of the Action Congress (AC) in the state to okay a commissioner for northerners residing in the state.
huh huh huh

in fact, I'm totally lost here.

Are we talking about the Civil Service or a community chieftain appointment?

Is there a ministry for tribal/northern/eastern/western affairs or something? That needs a commissioner?

the Serikin should rephrase abeg.

Christianity EtcRe: Whats Your View About Pork (meat From Pig) As A Christian by tpia: 6:59pm On Jul 08, 2008
@ topic:

whats with all the don't eat this don't eat that threads?

Another religion don show face?

If you're starving, or if someone holds a gun to your head and says eat or die, wont you eat?

Such things should be personal preferences, in my opinion. But maybe thats wishful thinking.

Some dont eat beef, others dont eat pork, some cant eat certain types of fish, etc etc. Mostly connected to religion anyway.
PoliticsRe: Death By Drowning by tpia: 2:57pm On Jul 08, 2008
how do they know all these people are solely Nigerians.

The other day they said some Nigerians drowned off the coast of Gabon.Yet they found Ghanaian documents on one of the bodies. So on what basis are they lumping west Africans together as all being Nigerians.

Let these reporters show some proof when they're talking.

am not saying the migrants werent Nigerians, but lets face it- Nigerians arent the only ones making these risky trips.

Are the Ogoni the same as Ijaw?

getahead:
So I have heard lots said about the oppinions of Naijafolk on Southern African(generic-South Africa, Bots, Zim, Zambia, Malawi etc) people. I am curious to get people's view hear. What are some of the general beliefs or "heresays" about southern people particularly sistas?
who cares?  huh huh

why are so many south Africans in here sniffing for information on what people think about them anyway. You people are at the extreme end of the continent- probably closer to Australia or something. You need to be looking south, instead of north.

So many topics to contribute to, but the only thing you want to know is what do Naijafolk think about south Africans.

Why not ask the Nigerians in your immediate vicinity or something. And I mean this in the most lovable way.

gosh, big yawn.

Some folks want to turn the churches into exclusive buddy clubs.
Christianity EtcRe: What Has Relgion Said About Dead Meat? by tpia: 1:10am On Jul 08, 2008
I dont think not wanting to eat meat that wasnt slaughtered, has anything to do with religion.

Why would anyone want to eat an animal that died of unknown causes?

Personally, I cant knowingly eat anything that died mysteriously, since I dont know what sickness killed it. Nothing to do with religion, as far as I'm concerned.

All things being equal of course. If you're starving none of this applies.

PoliticsRe: 260 Nigerians Dumped In Algerian Desert by tpia: 7:12pm On Jul 07, 2008
The thing just happened nah.

Can people give a little credit where its due on occasion.

abi are folks supposed to react before there's an incident.

The government and concerned citizens in Nigeria have at various times spoken out on behalf on Nigerians abroad. There was a news story somewhere about a committee of concerned Nigerians who called on the Libyan government to send all Nigerians languishing in the Libyan jails, back to Nigeria. The two Nigerians executed in Indonesia, were refused expatriation back home even though Nigerian government officials had pleaded on their behalf. Yaradua expressed his displeasure at the British Airways fiasco.

abeg are people expecting some Nigerian superman to fly in and magically right every wrong instantaneously? It took time for Nigerians in diaspora to earn their negative reputation, and it will take more time to fix it.

This attitude of demanding instant solution to all problems is what got us into the quandary in the first place.
TV/MoviesRe: Femi Branch Is Hot! Hot! Hot! by tpia: 6:49pm On Jul 07, 2008
hmm. None of them is my type sha. I looked up Femi Branch too.

Unless maybe there are hunkier pictures somewhere. Or is it that they're sexy in person? Or on tv, I guess.

I think some women like this kind of look though.

Femi Brainard probably looks better than that. The camera didnt get him at his best angle.

anyway, throw in a fine British accent and most women are three quarters won.

For the record, I don't consider Will Smith handsome, for example. But his looks improved over time. I do like most of his movies however.

I hope some of the kids wont eventually end up in Algeria/Libya/wherever in the name of lacking opportunities in Nigeria.

The guy probably can't even recognize most of his so-called children.  Assuming they're all his anyway. undecided

Some women sha. I wonder if these wives praising him on paper are saying the same things behind his back. Everyone knows where their shoe pinches privately.

@tpia
Where in the article did you see that these guys were 'legal migrants'?!

The majority of these people are illegals enroute Italy via human smuggling rings.
texazzpete:
I seem to recall a certain amount of furore following the perceived ill treatment of a Nigerian deportee by citizens of a particular country.

Strange to see that there's no thunder for this issue concerning 260 deportees from another country.

grin
the Algerian situation isnt exactly the same as the British one. In that case, legal migrants were made to share the punishment being given the deportee.

abeg I no fit talk.  If you want to advocate people being left to die in the desert simply because you feel no one has the right to raise an alarm, then go ahead.

The day you or someone close to you becomes a victim of the kind of treatment you condone, wont be a surprise at least.
PoliticsRe: Ogun State Governor, Chief Gbenga Daniel, Poisoned by tpia: 5:54pm On Jul 07, 2008
poisoned?

where, when and why? huh huh
PoliticsRe: 260 Nigerians Dumped In Algerian Desert by tpia: 3:34pm On Jul 07, 2008
maybe because there's a difference between a legal migrant and an illegal one? grin grin

Unless the situation is exactly the same and I'm missing something here?

I'm not justifying the treatment they received, but in any case the story is just breaking, so give people time to digest the information.

FamilyRe: Is My Wife The Devil's Agent? by tpia: 11:02pm On Jul 05, 2008
all these people saying someone shouldnt leave the house when there's a fight.

That works in Nigeria. Not so sure about overseas, where anyone can call the police on you. If your case goes to court, you'll get a restraining order anyway, telling you not to go near your wife and kids in the meantime.Violate this order and you risk jail.

Some men ignore the orders but its at their own risk. I learnt the police and courts are getting tougher on domestic violence reports these days. Maybe not in Britain  though.

If an argument is escalating with neither party willing to back down or placate the other, then better leave the house. I don talk my own.  Though of course its better to try and defuse the argument and restore peace, if possible at that time.

Divorce isnt the only alternative, but sometimes I'm forced to agree with spoilt: if you can't get along, then you might have to get a divorce.

But from what the OP has posted here,he was the one who was cheating, not his wife. All she was doing was shouting. Since when do you divorce someone on those grounds? Educate me plz.

The girlfriend also ended up shouting and accusing him of assualt, on top of her own. Yet few people are questioning the girl's actions.
