CrimeRe: Would You Marry A Former Armed Robber Who Shot Your Parents? by tpia1: 11:46am On Dec 08, 2010
Skidoc:
Ladies, if you find yourself in this kind of situation, what are you going to do? Men, feel free to contribute.

You met this handsome young man and after the necessary necessities, you started dating. You were so close and the relationship got deeper, for you it’s him or no other.  Sometime while you were having intimate talks, he told you about his past. He said he was formerly an armed-robber before he repented and started a new life. You were shocked at first but you said "oh well, that’s now in the past. Thank God you are now a responsible young man."

Months later, he proposed marriage and with tears in your eyes you accepted because he is truly the love of your life and you would be more than happy to marry him.  Then the time came to introduce each other to your families. He took you to his family members and they welcomed you with open arms.

Meanwhile, some years back, armed-robbers came to your house and the kingpin shot your Mum dead and shot your Dad in the leg, leaving him paralysed till today.  So you took your fiancé to your father and siblings for introduction, only for your father to recognise him as the man who shot your Mum and him.

Now the boy is begging you to forgive him and forget about the past and carry on with the marriage. Will you forgive him? Will you still marry him? Remember he has changed totally and you love him in a way you have never loved any man before.

Disclaimer: This did not happen to me or anybody I know. It is just a story. So don’t start saying "Skidoc, she must never forgive you". Infact if you put my name in it, you will be suspended for 38 hours. grin grin grin
are you an armed robber?

you do sound like one from your nl posts.
Foreign AffairsRe: A Gambian Waiter (25) Weds A Granny (59) For Visa by tpia1: 11:22am On Dec 08, 2010
I heard of a 60 plus British woman worth £7 million and bought a £500k mansion with a pool for her gambian husband in his early 30s
no wonder we have some nigerian males cursing out every nigerian thomasina, dickina and harriet.

who wouldnt, after tasting that kind of better life.

all in exchange for a bit of panshing.

not to mention you dont even have to work so hard to impress as you would with your own countrywoman? huh

both in the bed and otherwise.

She spends 6 months in Gambia and while she is away the gambian wife of her husband moves in to the house with her full knowledge as she accepted polygamy
a win-win situation i guess, until the woman's heirs decide to take up the matter.

Have you read to see the post I wrote that in reference to? The person said her mum says any relationship with anyone from a different culture won't work(paraphrased).
Of course, I could be happy in a relationship with someone from my culture. Don't try to nit pick and over analyse. smiley
well, her mum is entitled to her opinion and might possibly be speaking from her own experience.

doesnt make her comment any less valid and neither does it mean her daughter will or wont marry from another culture.

we shouldnt be so quick to trash other people's observations just because they arent what we want to hear.

there are people of all races who prefer their children marry within their own culture.

i dont necessarily consider that a crime.

The new Govt in power is doing everything possible to force their citizens, who were hitherto living on social programmes, back to work by cutting down and in some cases totally removing these benefits
i just read the DC govt is doing the same.

cutting off welfare benefits after 5 years.

Excellent video.

The video in 2.27 to 2.33 suggests that migrating Africans built seaworthy vessels and ships capable of  traversing vast oceans, an incredible 60,000 years ago!

How else could they have landed in Australasia?

Quite amazing.

Can we even build such ships today without looking for some white guy to help us?

Chai.
australasians are not Africans, and the distance isnt so far if you consider the fact that melanasians are actually asians, so to speak.

I'll rather be with someone from a totally different race and culture and be happy than with someone from my culture and live a miserable life
does being with someone from your own culture automatically translate to living a miserable life? huh

seems you're being rather close minded with this statement.

mind you, i'm not saying you shouldnt date outside your race or country.

Yes, it does vary by state. I came here when I was 13 too but they put me in the 9th grade because they thought I was too young for the 10th grade which is equivalent to Naija's SS1 although I did 9th grade(JSS3) in naija. But I have cousins who moved to Texas from naija and were kept in their original grades. Doesn't have to be a 'special school', some states just don't place a minimum age for HS graduation.

His birthday being in November too, I'm guessing he actually graduated at 14 in the summer of 2004 before he turned 15 in November of that yr. If he enrolled in college that same yr in September(fall), he was still 14 and graduated with his bachelors in 2008 probably in December rather than May, which is when it usually takes place. if so, it took him 4.5 years technically since Sept-Dec is a semester, which is half a yr of college. He turned 19 a month before he graduated.

I think that's what happened.
you're probably right.

i did some checking and it seems some kids also leave high school early and take the geds instead of getting a diploma. Thus getting into college faster than their classmates.

i dont think that's the case here however.

some states just don't place a minimum age for HS graduation.
i guess.

there might be some merit in the US system of keeping kids with their agemates but since there are children who test above average, exceptions do have to be made perhaps.

Came to US in 2002
Finished High school in 2004
Finished UNI in 2009
Would have finished Grad school in 2012

2010 - 2002 = 8
13 +8 = 21
not trying to argue here but simply attempting to work out this puzzle.

he came to the US at age 13, in 2002.

he should have been placed in eight or ninth grade, with his agemates.

to graduate 4-5 years later, at age 17 or 18.

now, unless he took college level courses while in high school [he denied that though] or was enrolled in a special school that allowed him to skip ahead of his grade.

the educational system could also vary by state perhaps.

anyway, dont mind me.

may he RIP.

^^the other option is to figure out the ethnic composition of the yorubas in egbaland before what obtains today.

we dont really have a lot of information about how Islam was established in the southwest.

we know the history in northern nigeria and kwara, but not elsewhere.

obviously it must have been through peaceful migration and integration, i assume [but could be wrong] since we havent heard otherwise.

anyway, na them [politicians] sabi. It all makes for good powwow but does it matter, really.
CrimeRe: A Nigerian Student Shot And Killed In Us by tpia1: 8:55pm On Dec 07, 2010
Ileke-IdI:
@tpia

Concerning your question about his age and his level of education; it happens.
A lot of Nigerians grad. early.
I've met 16yr old Nigerian sophomores/2nd yr on campus. Even Moonstone [NLer, sorry for the spotlight] is a very young grad student. Some people started school earlier than others, some people are more gifted, some people have the brain to skip grades, or some people took more credits and took more classes over summer to finish faster. And Busayo is one of those people.
it's generally not the norm, in the US.

In the instances where kids are identified as brilliant for their ages, they might be enrolled in a special program or special school with others who are the same. Not sure if that's what happened here.

bawomolo stated in one thread it took him 4.5 years to complete his first degree. And he categorically denied the possibility of getting an engineering degree in three years.

rather puzzling.

maybe it's easier in chicago, perhaps.

@dapobear, not that everyone knows he's egba but everyone knows he's yoruba atleast among kwarans and other Yorubas that care enough.
You can't judge where people come from solely from looks especially in Nigeria. People are always surprised to hear that I'm yoruba cuz of my looks when in fact, i'm a full-blooded one. This may be because of the stereotype that yoruba folks are dark complexioned. Gbemi can definitely be yoruba, money made her that fresh cuz there are many omo-alatas with a similar complexion.
Whatever the Sarakis wanna do with themselves is cool to me, no one is losing sleep.

PoliticsRe: Saraki An Egba Man? by tpia1: 8:32pm On Dec 07, 2010
yoruba creoles arent concentrated in mainly one place as obtains elsewhere, so i think that's why it's so difficult tracing any non-black yoruba origins most times. They're simply shrouded in impenetrable mystery.

by creole i mean people of indirect mixed ancestry.

not sure what's the proper pc word.

Students from outside the European Union will be forced to go home after completing courses
actually, students used to voluntarily go back home after completing their studies.

this was before nigeria's population explosion, economic crash, human trafficking, britain joining the EU, widespread globalization, etc etc.

^Well lets  be honest and say the guy did step on a lot of toes on this forum with his unabashed support for gay rights and his atheism. I know a lot of conservatives and Christains here did not take kindly to his blunt views and went as far as issuing blood curdling curses against him and his family.
Again I doubt that jealousy or envy was a motive as he was, in fainess to him, quite a humble respectful guy.
the issues that led to his death most likely had no direct ties to his arguments here on nl- i can safely hazard a guess about that.

he's been anti-christianity and an outspoken advocate of gay rights for years without encountering any problems.

jealousy and envy cant be ruled out, not necessarily from the actual person who pulled the trigger, but also from others who didnt.

there's so much involved here.

one also has to wonder why exactly was he so militantly pro-gay?
