anonymity is a myth.

hackers know you even if you feel nobody online does [the latter is an extremely erroneous assumption]. undecided

Michky: Personally, when i first saw the Rayo's thread, i expected to read something different from what she wrote. I really don't want to believe she's mentally ill as she said

She's not mentally ill in my opinion. Perhaps some personality problems here and there. Definiately not mental problem (Madness).

This is my opinion by the way.
why do people kreep insisting the lady is not mentally ill?

you mean even if she hadnt written anything, you couldnt tell? huh

Using European language to equate meaning to Yoruba words will result in precisely the outcome you stated in the bold.
i get your point, but you are referring to context, or a word's contextual meaning, as opposed to the factual one.

was it fani kayode he was referring to with "sophisticated ignorance"?

i thought he meant everybody commenting on the matter.

hmm, are they still debating or about to pass that same sex marriage bill in the senate?

cos some of you obviously know more than the rest of us.

After many years of reflection, I’m beginning to think that perhaps Okara was right after all and I was indeed part of his problem. Instead of trying to ‘clean up’ Okara and make him 'civilized’, I should have encouraged him to seek professional help.
have to agree.

key word is "encouraged" not forced per se, since the writer is not related to the man in question.

eaglechild: If a former minister of the federal republic of Nigeria will go on twitter and use Yo mama jokes and even more depressingly get chants of encouragement from a vast majority of nairalanders then we in real trouble as a country.
you must be new to nigeria or nl.

thats why you find the situation depressing.

mko abiola: An not surpriz.
Afterall, former Gov timpre sylva has a special adviser to d gov on rumour mongering.
He sits in evry beer parlour .
It wasn't funny,I was surpriz den.
We sat in an open space and dey told us to watch our tongue cos d gov has a special adviser on rumour mongering.
how was the renumeration, because thats the kind of job some people might dream to have.

however, i think in most of the former soviet blocs, and increasingly in the west, its the same way, not unusual there i mean.
in western culture they focus on health and less on wellbeing.
true

in yoruba customs we strive for balance....the wellbeing of the individual.
to the best of our knowledge.

anyway, key word is strive, as you pointed out.
Culture › Re: The Meaning Of Peace In The Different Nigerian Languages by tpia5: 8:55pm On Mar 17, 2013
lol! thank you but google cannot teach me my tongue. yoruba has no function for health. we talk about balance....wellbeing!
i checked google to get more info, not that i found much.

one blog claimed farabale is peace [not exactly correct], since alaafia is a loan word from hausa or arabic.

alafia - wellbeing
ayesi - honor
ibukun - blessing
ere - success
ola - prosperity

ire - peace
alaafia -peace or well being. I learnt alaafia is definitively the word for peace, although i'm not familiar with it in that context.

ayesi -not familiar with this word. Honor is iyi or iyin [or praise]. Also juba [worship].

ibukun- blessing

ere- gain, profit or increase. Could also be success, i agree.

ire- success, honor, progress, prosper, etc.
Culture › Re: The Meaning Of Peace In The Different Nigerian Languages by tpia5: 8:49pm On Mar 17, 2013
toro/tooro - sustain/continuum
toro means calm.

i double checked and it seems toro isnt generally substituted for peace because someone/somewhere can be calm without being peaceful.

alaafia, on the other hand, is more encompassing and has a wider, more thorough definition as peace.

this is what i learnt outside google.

on google, i found samuel johnson's definition which describes tooro as calm. However, this was when i did a check on tooro after i remembered the word.

Check their tab, "contact us". They say they have an office suite in New York yet give no address. Check the link to "testimonials". They claim lofty exploits in their chosen endeavour and yet do not give a single name of an author under them or a novel published by them.
its self evident you shouldnt go further with them i should think.
