Politics › Re: Did Chinua Achebe Actually Do Anything To Promote Development In Nigeria? by tpia5: 1:12am On Mar 24, 2013
0lumide: I can't seem to be able to find one thing Achebe achieved as one of "African intellectual".

He had the tool and potential to make people listen to him but he didn't use that tool and potential for nothing but his own literary awards and nothing really educating per se. Except you want to call his style of writing educating. I call his style of writing political and not something that people across the board can really read when they seek guidance in anything.

All the "African" forum he attended were all just noise making forums who just sit and analyze what Africa should be without them following through their conclusions and ensuring that they capture the mind of corrupt African government for a change.

But still Achebe was a creative writer. But to put it beyond that to try and mortally immortalize him as a hero of Africans is just really sentimental. Achebe has contributed nothing to African development, people and spirit.

If we allow Achebe be called a hero, we are leaving space for people like baba suwe and other entertainers to be called Heros. King Sunny Ade as talented as he is in his work, is just a beauty of Africa not an African hero or active contributor to African development.

Achebe is just one of many Africa talents that stood above his peers in his work. Let's not get too sentimental and try to give undue hero worship to him, instead, recognize the creativity of his work which is what his fame is still based not contribution to African people's development. Thanks
this post is very unfortunate, would have ignored it so as to not give it prominence, but had to comment just for the record.

dont trash what you dont understand. You probably know nothing about literature or the man in question [beyond the fact that he's Igbo], give it a rest.

We all know jim iyke to be a fun loving guy now.

Flexing the city shouldn't be a problem people.

When no be office workshop/seminar.
if someone isnt holding a bottle of johnny walker while staring down the breasts of a semi-nude booty call wannabee, nigerians do not believe he's having fun.

ditto for women, no show of booty and bosom = you havent arrived at the party yet.

ckkris: Please kindly give the title of the book on Okonkwo by G T Basden. Thank you.
Andre Uweh: Help please.
these things are literature analogies, not everyone can understand them, hence I dont always like to explain because not everyone will get it, and here on nl what happens in such instances is those who dont get it become foul mouthed and start raining insults and derailing threads due to the fact that they dont grasp the subject matter.

If Mr Brown of Things Fall Apart is G T Basden, then his work on Igbo culture, tradition and people is what was being referred to.

In addition, quick correction, Achebe's great uncle [his father's uncle], was the person who retained the traditional religion while his dad did not. Also, his dad was an orphan and was raised by this same uncle.

Akshow: I hope there is enough parking space for the car keys the couple will receive as gift from church members. And gifts from all the church branches
There will be.

Whats more important ( and relevant) is prayer, because marriage is not a walk in the park.

So, our celebrities do not dress impressively if they're not in an arab country?

Interesting, that it needs an outright ban on semi n.udity before women will dress appropriately.

Anyway, na una sabi. Lord have mercy o.

dare2think: It must suck to be any of the other baby mamas right now. Especially the one that had a baby for him last year.
They can also do their own weddings, i think one of them already has hers lined up.

After all, if tuface can have a society wedding despite having 3 or more baby mamas, i dont see why the other baby mamas also cant do the same.

They're mostly just social events these days, thats all. I dont think people attach much meaning to it per se, beyond having photos and maybe bragging rights.
Celebrities › Re: Financial Analysis Of Annie And 2face's Wedding by tpia5: 5:33pm On Mar 23, 2013
Who's the guy in kilt.

Anyway, i'm sure beachfront weddings could also be done in lagos, just saying, nothing to do with tuface own.

I noticed its a bit more common overseas but i see no reason why the same cant be done on lagos beaches, some of which are very clean and have palm trees everywhere.

Cant really believe most of what is posted in romance section in particular.

The poster might be a regular contributor to sexuality section, who knows.

The "motives" of some of these supposedly "pro-yoruba" posters on nl are highly suspect, going by their lifestyles and utterances.

I do not think majority of them are working for or sponsored by yoruba mentors. Their bosses are foreigners, i'm sure.

In yorubaland, you do not behave the way some of them are behaving, when an important personality dies. Neither is it a yoruba trait to curse out your elders even if they're not the same tribe as you.

But i doubt many of them would know this, since anyone can claim any tribe on the internet.

I have long said most people on this site, especially the ones who are most vocal about their so-called tribe, do fraternize secretly with the supposedly "other" tribe/persons they say they despise, and this cuts across ethnicity.

One wonders what fuels the blatant xenophobia here, look no further than these people.

In Things fall apart, Mr Brown promised to write a book about Okonkwo, did he do so?
If you're referring to G T Basden, then yes he did.

nenergy: Chinua Achebe's death: we have lost a brother
By Wole Soyinka and JP Clark

We need to stress this at a critical time of Nigerian history, where the forces of darkness appear to overshadow the illumination of existence that literature represents. These are forces that arrogantly pride themselves implacable and brutal enemies of what Chinua and his pen represented, not merely for the African continent, but for humanity.

Those of you regulars on this thread who want to start getting on my nerves, hope you know what you're doing.

I will not repeat myself, i assume if i'm not bothering myself with you then you should return the favour and butt the heck out of my affairs.

Nothing more irritating than showing respect to someone who considers it an entitlement.

Once again, i will not repeat what i've said here.

You can ask for the post to be hidden, your prerogative.
