Wow how time flies.

The man is only a few decades younger than my grandfather.

Is he really sure about the year he was born? huh

How does he know.

Aya is wife in parts of yorubaland.

Iyawo is wife in yoruba.

Ayaba means wife of the king.

I think ijaws are the ones borrowing words from yoruba, not the other way round.

Also, i dont know of any yoruba dialect that calls wife eta or something like that.

Will look it up but i suspect the word you're trying to describe here might be aya- some areas use that as a shortened form of iyawo.

I'm not too sure If maybe you're referring to  ikale dialect however- where was the person giving you this information from.

All the other words you mentioned (mainly negative i noticed), could be loan words from yoruba brought to you by your western ijaw cousins.

The iyawo stuff in particular has occasionally been a sore point between western ijaws and your yoruba neighbours as some of you might know. Wars have been fought over this matter of yoruba wives.

I think some people's time would be better spent figuring out how to develop nigeria instead of all this mumbo jumbo they currently engage in.

Lets find ways to fix the potholes all over the roads, have stable electricity instead of the present zero power supply, and also its not good to not have potable water supply.

Oil rich country yet most nigerians are still below the poverty line and the healthcare infrastructure needs improvement as well, which is why most rich nigerians prefer to travel overseas for treatment.

There are white people and foreigners in nigeria who are treated like royalty and one nigerian man even said his white wife is treated better than him right there in his hometown.

So, kindly focus on what's important, and how to stop black on black crime, instead of going off on a tangent about irrelevancies.

Well, i suppose one of these days we'll look at the reasons why intertribal marriage is at an all time high and negative tribalism is also off the hook.

Dont mind the jobless gossipers jare.

Just find yourself a nice young bachelor to date.

Dont be picky about ethnicity or colour btw, since celebrities might have to consider a wider range of potential dating partners.

I did see the photo of her and dele fasan though.

So they werent dating? huh
Literature › Re: Why Do Nigerians Still Suffer In Hunger? by tpia5: 8:13pm On Oct 01, 2011
Might be something to do with productivity ( both on the part of many of the leaders as well as the general populace) though i'm not sure.

Then again you have the high corruption levels, etc etc.
Family › Re: Is It Wise To Explain Your Financial Problems To Your Kids? by tpia5: 7:46pm On Oct 01, 2011
If money is scarce the kids will know anyway.

Not sure how you can hide that.

I was in such situations while growing up and we mainly just cut our coats according to our sizes. No frivolous shopping, fewer clothes which incidentally also meant easier housekeeping, meals are also simpler, and you frequently had to walk instead of taking a taxi. Sometimes a car might be available but more often not.

Well, its bad but stuff happens and thats why prayer is essential.

It also helps if you dont move with rich people who will look down on you without bothering to help in any manner. If you stick to friends who arent judgemental, that helps a lot.

Now, for the parents, well you just have to sit down and figure out ways to legally improve the family's income. Especially if you were high earners before.

Very emotional and disturbing topic, i agree.

Pity the tradition folded up.

Obviously kenyanlady is off her meds every now and then.

Dont know whats with some hookers here. When they need nigerian booty calls or husband they dont notice "coarse" hair but anytime they see black women they suddenly remember their own hair is different.

Awon oniranu.

Fashion › Re: Black Women Rocking Their Natural Hair by tpia5: 2:58pm On Oct 01, 2011
The natural hair the thread is referring to is the absence of weaves or any chemicals to straighten the hair.

Of course having caucasian or straight hair doesnt mean you're not black if you want to be, but there are times when we simply look at the natural hair texture common to black people.

I don tire for typing sef.

@ abadba

i think we all know what is meant by caucasian hair.

The hair type commonly associated with caucasians. Lets not complicate the semantics plz.
Fashion › Re: Black Women Rocking Their Natural Hair by tpia5: 2:36pm On Oct 01, 2011
Ok, can we stay with the thread topic which is afro hair.

No need to catch feelings and neither is it it by force to post on the thread? huh

Jeez.

We all know some africans have straight hair but in this instance what we are looking at is afro hair found in bantus and people of negro extraction.

Thanks for understanding.

We all in Southern Nigeria had no clothes until the coming of the Europeans
very incorrect.

please minimize the use of "we" in this instance.

The Southern Igbos who actually produce the "Akwette" material won in the entire Niger-Delta
the history of akwete cloth has been discussed on another thread.

every ethnicity and culture borrows from each other- no biggie.
