Motorists to choose between e-Tag, swiftPass card
The Lekki-Epe Expressway toll plaza, which is being completed and may be commissioned for use in a few months time, will be embracing the use of modern technology in its operations as against the usual manual employed in similar facilities in the past.
As expected, private and commercial drivers who will ply the road upon completion of the plaza and commencement of tolling will have the option to either choose e-Tag or swiftPass card to be introduced by Lekki Concession Company Limited (LCC) to drive past the facility which will later be known as “Admiralty Circle Plaza”. LCC is the company to which Lagos State government had concessioned the express road, the first phase of which was opened to public use, last week.
Opuiyo Oforiokuma, managing director and chief executive officer LCC, told CityFile that operations at the toll gate may begin by end of May when the company hopes to complete substantial work on the road, including expansion of the ExxonMobile Bridge from four to six lanes. “We estimate substantial completion by end of May,” Oforiokuma said.
LCC’s entitlement to commence tolling is based on substantial completion of KM 0- 6 expansion of the ExxonMobile Bridge from four to six lanes, and construction of the Toll plaza by Oniru Estate. Substantial completion will be certified by the independent engineer, an experienced international engineering firm. Lekki-Epe road toll plaza Pic by Joshua Bassey
CityFile gathered that payment of toll at the plaza would be carried out via electronic means or by cash. Motorists who prefer the electronic options will use the e-Tag or SwiftPass card. The e-Tag is a device that will be affixed to the vehicle windscreen, and will be obtainable after registering for customer account with LCC.
With this permit, and as long as, there is sufficient credit on the customer’s account, the driver will be allowed unlimited access through the toll plazas and will have exclusive use of the express lanes. The barrier will open automatically to allow his vehicle uninterrupted passage as long as his account carries sufficient credit.
On the other hand, SwiftPass is a contactless card that the customer can use to carry enough credit for a set amount of passages, even as the card balance can be topped up if needed. On approaching the toll gate, users of this will have to stop momentarily in the lane in order to point the card at the card reader. If there is sufficient credit on the card, the barrier will automatically open to allow for vehicular accessibility.
Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, recently justified the concessioning of the Lekki-Epe Expressway to LCC under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative, saying it remains a viable option and informed by the fact that government alone cannot undertake all of the developmental projects to enhance quality of life of the people. The concession and toll arrangement, which will run for about 30 years, is to enable the investors recoup their investment before handing the road back to government.
Meanwhile, Lekki Phase 1 Roundabout, also known as “first roundabout,” which is part of the ongoing rehabilitation and upgrade of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, was last week opened to motorists. Oforiokuma said the completion of First Roundabout was in line with

Sky Blue: What an irony. You really do not see that you are actually eroding your arguments and solidifying mine by comparing the people who beat her up to the lion in the zoo? Did not say what she did was smart but the response should definitely be condemned. I can't even believe we are having the argument. She could not be shown the way out? Why did they have to beat her up? What was it exactly that she said for crying out loud? For how long are we going to continue justifying this culture of 'beat up or kill anyone who does not agree with me' that seems prevalent in a particular group? If people want to even begin to use "provocation" as an excuse then we must be told what she said, not some lame crap like 'she insulted us', especially when people you read stories like a teacher being killed in the north for touching throwing a bag to the floor that contained a koran. This is simply ridiculous. What was the "provocation"? instead of getting upset as if you have another problem, learn this: 1. the incident is not in the north but that's still no excuse for the girl's actions. 2. do not intentionally incite people in such a manner. if you like keep thinking you sabi pass. |

A quick check on the community in question will reveal the following: * No primary or Secondary Health Care System. * No Public Secondary School * Apart from the Lekki-Epe Express road, you need a 4 wheel Drive to navigate the swampy inlets. All the development on that axis are privately motivated. Lekki-Epe Expressway is the only link road in & out of these communities some prefer it remains that way, i presume. |

Sky Blue: Have you got any examples of someone going into a church and preaching something else being beaten up to such an extent? If not please spare us the rubbish. And why must you bring church inside this one? Was the story about church? Is it insecurity or what? Whether it was done in church, or mosque, or wherever, they had no right to beat her up especially given that they can't even repeat what is was she apparently 'preached'. Let us be bold enough to speak the truth for once instead of hiding under political correctness. The intolerance shown in the story is not new. Remember the teddy bear named mohammed and the teacher that was almost killed? Numerous incidents of people almost being and being killed for 'defiling' the koran? Defending such rubbish is simply inhumane, I repeat inhumane, and what is more shocking than the story is responses like yours. please reread your post and get the contradictions there. i wonder if you'll also support the man who went into ibadan zoo to preach to a hungry lion? |

Cocoa was the main cash crop in south western Nigeria, not just Ondo. does it matter? nobody wants to plant cocoa anymore and the cocoa farms are being replaced by you-know-what anyway. Nigeria's cocoa trees are ageing and so are the farmers
Forty years ago a young Nigerian would have taken over his father's cocoa plantation. Now he is more likely to be looking for an oil-related job in the big city
"The cocoa trees are becoming old and so are the farmers," says Akinwale Ojo, a cocoa farmer and executive secretary of the Cocoa Association of Nigeria (CAN).
The chairman of the Cocoa Association, Affun Adegbulu, looked back fondly at the situation thirty years ago when cocoa farmers could build houses, send their children to good schools and eat three square meals a day. http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5geVk1DCpAifkFLVbMaPE-UN2W1eQ"It is unbelievable and ironic that despite being a major cocoa producer and exporter, Nigeria does not produce chocolate." i agree- quite ironic. |

Sagamite: Nope.
Shoes off or no shoes off, non-believers are not allowed in the place. It was more a "warm-infidel blood not allowed on premises".
Definitely the doctrine then.
Even if someone did not take shoes off, tell them to, not beat them. true sha. although celes also dont take kindly to people entering their churches with shoes on. but they might not go as far as beating them, though never say never. was your school in the north or something? and why would anyone want to enter a mosque if they're not muslim? Non-Muslims in mosques Under a few interpretations of Islamic law, non-Muslims may be allowed into mosques, as long as they do not sleep or eat there. The prevailing opinion is presented by followers of the Maliki school of Islamic jurisprudence, who argue that non-Muslims may not be allowed into mosques under any circumstances.[39] In modern-day Saudi Arabia, the Grand Mosque and all of Mecca are open only to Muslims. Likewise, the Masjid al-Nabawi and the city of Medina that surrounds it are also off-limits to those who do not practice Islam.[48] For mosques in other areas, it has most commonly been taken that non-Muslims may only enter mosques if granted permission to do so by Muslims and if they have a legitimate reason. All entrants regardless of religious affiliation are expected to respect the rules and decorum for mosques.[12]
In modern Turkey non-Muslim tourists are allowed to enter any mosque, but there are some strict rules. Visiting a mosque is allowed only between prayers; visitors are required to wear long trousers and not to wear shoes, women must cover their heads; visitors are not allowed to interrupt praying Muslims, especially by taking photos of them; no loud talk is allowed; and no references to other religions are allowed (no crosses on necklaces, no cross gestures etc.) Similar rules apply to mosques in Malaysia, where larger mosques that are also tourist attractions (such as the Masjid Negara) provide robes and headscarves for visitors who are inappropriately attired.
The Qur'an addresses the subject of non-Muslims, and particularly polytheists, in mosques in two verses in its ninth chapter, Sura At-Tawba. The seventeenth verse of the chapter prohibits those who join gods with Allah — polytheists — from entering mosques:

Sagamite: When I was in boarding school in secondary school, I entered every single complex/building/quarters. The ones I am allowed in and even the ones I was not allowed in including Principal's House and Girl's Hostel (Yes, it is my religious duty).
The only building I never entered even when it was empty was the Mosque.
Why?
Because their was a doctrine amongst both muslim students and teachers that any unbeliever that enters should be beaten. And at least I saw 2 people assaulted for such in my 13 years in secondary school.
There needs to be a self-search global islamic conference about why some muslims are raised on and use violence to resolve issues and how to stop it. maybe it was their mode of entry that caused offence, though i'm not saying i support the doctrine or the beating. but, for example, you're supposed to take your shoes off before entering a mosque. Same goes for cele and some other churches. different strokes for different folks, imo. |
