yeah the gurl disturbed peace- agreed

then the next thing from the religion of peace is to skin her alive and later send her to prison?

is that it?

pls confirm
^^she had the choice of voicing her objections in a different manner. She did not have to enter a mosque to get her message across. Had it been a gathering of sango or juju worshippers, she'd get the same treatment.

she crossed the line and as it is, people are working overtime to save her butt because i doubt she understands what she did.
Politics › Re: Muslim Students Paralyse University Of Ibadan by tpiah: 5:10pm On Aug 17, 2010
^^the girl was disturbing the peace in the worst manner possible. How are her actions different from those of an almajiri? huh

even in america/europe you dont enter a mosque and start shouting against islam, then expect to walk away scot free.

keep your objections civilized or face the consequences.

she should know every action breeds a reaction and it's the height of irresponsibilty for her to do that in a place like nigeria.

in any case, if she thinks she's doing something no one has done before, she'd better think again. undecided If she knows the fate of others like her who acted rashly though in different contexts, she'd flee and never return. undecided

^^the harsh reality of your condition, bro, not mine.

i get the feeling you're projecting on blacks ie the situation of your own people (whoever they are) depresses you, so you think talking down to others is the solution.

it's not.
Culture › Re: Kneel Down And Feed Your Husband? by tpiah: 4:37pm On Aug 17, 2010
kneeling is for women while prostrating is for men, in yoruba culture.

if the man wants to kneel down or prostrate for his wife he has to do it in private, or people will wonder if he's run mad.

same way in western cultures the man can propose on one knee while it's more unusual for the woman to do the same.

And hence her beating was justified? Are you actually listening to yourself? Why don't we stop fabricating stories and actually ask to know what she actually said to begin with? What did she say? And her speech (whatever it contained) meant she deserved a beating? Her assaulters are the ones that should be going to jail, gosh such intolerance and sanctioned violence, so ridiculous. What won't we hear? Teacher named teddy bear mohammed and they wanted to kill her, lady touches koran and they wanted to kill her, someone drew cartoon and they wanted to kill him, where does it stop?
in nigeria, beatings are the norm whether justified or not.

let's focus on the larger picture which is her attempt to cause chaos.

if you're going to launch a crusade against beating, then include all the wife battering, kid battering, etc etc going on at any time of the day, back home.
Christianity Etc › Re: Who Is In The Best Position To Bless You; Your Parents Or Pastor by tpiah: 4:22pm On Aug 17, 2010
ideally, it should be your parents.

but if you come from a dysfunctional family where blessings are rare while curses are abundant, then you bless yourself.

example: the story of jabez, sort of.

Culture › Re: Are These Words Really Non-igbo? by tpiah: 4:08pm On Aug 17, 2010
okiti/ekiti is a dialectal word.

hills can be called okiti or apata, depending on your location.

eg okitipupa could mean red hill or red mountain though i'm not sure.

but i doubt the word would be commonly found across yorubaland.

just an observation.

it's not uncommon in yoruba to have multiple words for the same thing.

Politics › Re: Muslim Students Paralyse University Of Ibadan by tpiah: 3:12pm On Aug 17, 2010
If the girl had thought her actions through beforehand, she'd know a beating was the very least response she'd get.

that's why i say she has a mental problem.

was she expecting to just walk out calmly after her show?

interrupting an ogun, sango or amadioha service would get her no less of a beating, and that's putting it mildly.

what she did was wrong and senseless, period.

did she forget she was in nigeria? Beatings are commonplace there.

The beating is the least of her worries. The people who dont know her from adam, yet who will suffer for what she did, are a more pressing concern.

what a s.tupid girl.
Christianity Etc › Re: Christian Student Disrupts Jumuat Service At UI by tpiah: 3:02pm On Aug 17, 2010
However, the Muslim students went haywire when they found out that the institution’s bulletin which was released this morning did not report the incident
i also dont see the reason why the incident is being broadcast in the media.

why stir up people unnecessarily?

what purpose will reporting it serve?

and why do we like advertising every action by mentally disturbed individuals?

in fact, i tire for nigerian youth sha! Far too many of them [whether diasporan or home based] who are completely lost.

DejiYesufu:
I am a christian and I think I have an insight into the passion in that young lady's heart. I do not support her method but I must confess this may just be beyond the girl. Let me explain:
Jesus said he has not come to bring peace to this world but, in a sense, discord(paraphrase). Check the new testament, anywhere God begins a move it will inevitably spark off riot or discord. My Point is this: the end is near and Hell is real. There is no other way to escape God's wrath than through faith in Jesus Christ. If God has precipated this situation to again wake all of humanity to their dire need of a Christ, So be it.
If it results in religious violence; It is not new. For this reason we are called: as sheeps to the slaughter. Enough of "jeun-jeun" Christianity. Let all be done to let the message known, so we may be innocent of the blood of the Lost.
no excuses!

what she did was in very bad taste and she should be brought to order.

stop misquoting the bible.

if you condemn a muslim for this type of behaviour then it doesnt get kosher just because a so-called christian does the same.

the girl most likely has mental issues or else was paid to start trouble.

Addressing journalists at the weekend, Zakariyah Giwa, President of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), University of Ibadan branch, alleged that the incident was a ploy to “perpetuate religious crisis in Nigeria, starting from the campus of the University of Ibadan”, describing it as unfortunate.
i agree.

e be like say dem send am.

He said Ms Adegunsoye’s action was a clear effrontery, alleging that, for the first time in history, she dressed like a Muslim to detract a jumat service in the month of Ramadan at the time the Chief Imam was leading the prayer.
i agree with the bolded.

the girl is either mad or else being paid to foment religious crisis.

The thing with it is that even the White Berber North African societies also struggled with the concept of written language despite being very close to the medditerenian while "sub-saharan parts like Ethiopia had a fully developed system

Your diffusion theory I reckon is 100% correct
as to why the africans didnt develop their own written language to the extent other people did?

simple.

as i pointed out before, africans have the habit of channeling their best efforts to the development of other races.

written language started in mesopotamia.

there used to be blacks in ancient mesopotamia. Where are they today.

Punt

The majority opinion places Punt in Eastern Africa, based on the fact that the products of Punt (as depicted in the Hatshepsut illustrations) were abundantly found in East Africa but were less common or sometimes absent in Arabia. These products included gold, aromatic resins such as myrrh, ebony and elephant tusks. The wild animals depicted in Punt include giraffes, baboons, hippopotami and leopards. Says Richard Pankhurst : “[Punt] has been identified with territory on both the Arabian and African coasts. Consideration of the articles which the Egyptians obtained from Punt, notably gold and ivory, suggests, however, that these were primarily of African origin. … This leads us to suppose that the term Punt probably applied more to African than Arabian territory.”

gadogado:
Sure, you can teach an African something and he'll be good at it, you can train an animal in something and it'll be good at it but the question is, was the african able to teach himself? thats the question, coming up with your own stuff that reeks of intellectual ability like inventing a car for example. SO far, on this whole thread, people have been able to come up with bronze casting as peak african invention and they have latched to the glory of egypt. Now bring you bronze cast anyday and share a display table of inventions with a European, I'd assume you'd come out thoroughly embarrassed.
and european inventions are based on what? huh

exploration of other cultures.

so why would you disallow african intellectualism while praising so-called "european" inventions instead of measuring both by the same yardstick.

you might want to ask yourself why europe didnt emerge from the dark ages until they started sailing around the coast of west africa.

and btw, it's rather hard finding african inventors when immediately an african distinguishes himself in any way, the first thing to go is his ethnicity.

an example!

eg the richest black man in the world says he's arab.

how many "arab" inventors are in actual fact, black? Quite a few, i'm sure.
Politics › Re: Milton Friedman On Slavery And Colonialism. A Must Watch For Africans by tpiah: 1:02am On Aug 16, 2010
gadogado:
The point Im making is, collectively as a group, Africans constitute the least intelligent people on the globe. In contrast, Africans are some of the best athletes in the world. There are obviously going to be exceptions to the rule (putting a Nigerian student in a class with Japs and Brits) but this does not in anyway negate the fact that we are naturally disorganized which in my opinion is a component of lack of intelligence. We also lack other components of intelligence such as foresight.

Nigeria started at the same level with Asian countries, as far as economic indicators but because they're more intelligent, they have grown to supersede. Look, the examples of Africas lack of brain power is evident, you see it daily. So why deny it?
being emotional isnt a measure of intelligence anymore than being unemotional indicates a lack of cognition.

measuring intelligence by emotional yardsticks leads nowhere.

africans are more in tune with their emotions, true.

in no way does that indicate a lack of intelligence.

and i repeat- ignorant people are found in every society, and africa does not have a higher number of such.
