I apologize for the length of this story which is an illustration of the lip service our government has been paying to the encouragement of agriculture and private enterprise in Nigeria. MY APPLICATION In July, 2017, I submitted an application for a loan of five million, nine hundred and two thousand naira only (N5, 902, 000.00) at the Makurdi, Benue state branch of Bank of Industry. At the initial stage, I was very impressed by what I thought was the professionalism demonstrated by staff of the bank. I got a call on the 31st August 2017 notifying me of the approval of my loan. You can only imagine how delighted I was at the prospect of such a lifeline to my business considering the loan had a tenor of 3 years, moratorium of six months and purported interest of less than 10% per annum and given that my loan officer gave me the impression that now that the loan had been approved, disbursement was going to be a matter of days or weeks at the most. I was therefore very surprised to say the least when 2 months down the line, I was yet to receive an offer letter under the pretext that searches were been carried out on my person and on my business. I patiently waited while inundating Bank of Industry Makurdi office with calls and visits. It was not until early November, 2017 that I received a call informing me that the searches came clean and my offer letter was now ready. I went to the office and asked to receive my letter but to my surprise, I was asked to pay a non refundable fee of 1% of the amount approved for me before I could even view the letter. This part sounded almost criminal to me, why won’t I see the terms governing the purported offer before committing resources I did not have? They told me it was the norm and that there was no other way so I went ahead to pay the sum of Fifty Two Thousand Naira (N52, 000.00) being 1% of the sum approved. See receipt of the payment attached. Thereafter, I received a 6-paged offer letter in which I found ridiculous terms that made me wonder why a government agency whose objective was the encouragement of entrepreneurship could be that devious and self interested. See some details: 1.) The approved loan amount was five million, one hundred and ninety four thousand, three hundred and twenty two naira (N5, 194,322.00). A good percentage of this approved sum was for fees and charges which did not add any direct value to my business and which were at the exclusive discretion of the bank. 2.) The source was FGN (NEDEP) fund. 3.) It was to be discharged towards the procurement of items of equipment and raw material for my business. In other words, I was not supposed to get a kobo in cash, my suppliers were meant to get payment after they had supplied the materials I required. 4.) I also found in addition to other 8 conditions all of which I had met that I was meant to pay another security arrangement of 10% of the approved loan amount being Five hundred and nineteen thousand, four hundred and thirty two naira twenty kobo (N519,432.20) 5.) No legal action could be instituted howsoever instigated and/or sustained by my company against Bank of Industry jointly or severally without first giving BOI a ninety (90) day prior written pre-action notice of my company’s intention to so proceed against Bank of Industry. 6.) Bank of Industry’s ability to accommodate this facility within its legal lending limits was subject to availability of funds. This left me wondering why the bank will approve my application, collect a non refundable fee of 1% of the approved amount without first determining funds’ availability. 7.) The mother of all frauds in the offer letter was that if the loan was not disbursed within 2 months from the date of the letter of offer (31st October, 2017), the Bank of Industry without any consideration of why it was not disbursed reserved the right to review the terms and conditions of offer but if the loan was not disbursed within 3 months from the date of the letter of offer, the letter lapses and all expenses incurred by the bank shall be repaid by my company. 8.) If the offer letter contained unfriendly terms, you can only imagine what the 20 paged loan agreement proper contained. On the whole, the terms of the loan agreement was such that the bank was more than 100% covered while I and my 2 guarantors were made to bear all the risks and every legal obligation/responsibility. This was the greatest source of my fear as it all meant that the bank could afford the highest form of irresponsibility and recklessness as far as the loan and its disbursement was concerned and not face any consequence whatsoever. However, not only did I need the loan, at this point I had invested so much resource in money, time and energy that I felt the need to see it all through. So I stayed interested nonetheless. {To be cond} Meanwhile, feel free to share this story or post any similar experience you have had with BOI or any other government agency.

Even Satan has avowed followers so we are not surprised that some people with brains they have refused to use will come to public forums and declare support for @mbuhari . Note however such support will not keep Buhari from relocating to Daura latest next year |
Reno fighting dirty in his characteristic way. Aisha and her daughter could have chosen to support their husband and father to the moon and back since they are for the most part shielded from the negative effects of bad governance, but they chose the noble option and sided with the truth at personal expense and true Nigerians praying and working for good governance are pleased. But the likes of Omokri who are still bewailing loss of access to the corridors of power will Aisha and her daughter appear foolish for their acts of nationalism. |

This morning as I meditated upon the greatness of our God, my heart wondered to a sentence in Genesis 1:16, “…He made the stars also” and I wondered how the bible can summarize something so unfathomably profound and so infinitely vast into one small sentence of 5 letters. Let’s gain perspective, our earth which is the only known habitable planet is home to over 7 billion people scattered across 195 countries. The earth surface is about 70% water and life form is sustained upon the earth by energy from the sun. The sun is a star and it is in fact an average sized star. That is to say there are plenty other stars that are many times bigger than the sun. This average sized star which is our sun however is so big it can contain 1,300,000 earths. That is to say the sun is a whooping 1,300,000 times bigger than the earth. A galaxy is a collection of star systems and there are more than 100 billion galaxies in the observable universe. Now underline the word observable universe as science can only observe objects that are a certain distance from the earth because in the 13.8 billion years since the universe came into being, light from farther objects have not had time to reach us. Our galaxy which is named the Milky Way galaxy contains 300 billion stars. Astronomers put current estimates of the total star population at roughly 70 billion trillion (7 x 10^22). That is 1 trillion stars for every single person living upon the earth were the stars to be shared among the 7 billion people on earth. Yet the word of God sums all these up in that one sentence; “…He made the stars also” This calls my heart to worship in the humble realization that; 1. God is not my mate in spite of the infinity of how much he cares for me. 2. God is not infinite, I think he is infinity-You can’t describe him, you can’t explain him, you can’t understand him and you definitely can’t measure him. 3. If he made the stars also, there is truly nothing he cannot do 4. If the story of all the stars can be told in five words, then John was truly right when he asserted under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost that, "Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written."( John 21:25) NIV 5. The Psalmist actually had a point when he declared by inspiration of the Holy Ghost that “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” (Ps 8:3-4) KJV |
Hotshawarma:You just misquoted me. I did not say God does not value life. |
Hotshawarma:My dear, this animal life of being born, eating, sleeping, marrying, giving birth to children and dying is a cycle that God does not value the same way you do. He let his son Jesus die remember? Paul said, "for to me, to die is GAIN". If you are so afraid of dying, it is either because you have not made peace with your maker or you have no idea what God has prepared for those who love him. |
Hotshawarma:Don't you love yourself? Why do you force yourself to or at least feel the need to work out? God is a due process God, there are orders he has ordained which he does not break and the devil knows it. So the devil has a right in been here at least for now and God will not cheat him out of that right because he is omnipotent. |
Partnerbiz3:You have made very important points that I cannot ignore. I will respond in line with two scriptures; Psalm 115:16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men. ROM 8:19-24 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? In the light of these scriptures, note: 1) God who created both the heavens and the earth gave the earth to man who in turn gave it to the devil when he fell in the garden 2) The devil thereafter became an important player in what happens in the earth through the instrumentality of man. 3)Even creation was not spared the pains of the bondage of decay. 4) There is the hope that both we and creation will be liberated when the sons of God are revealed 5) Even now, God gives his own victories through all the tribulations and difficulties we face. |
Apina:According to your submission, "The sin of the rich man wasn't that he didn't love Lazarus but was that "He Was INSENSITIVE to the plight of the beggar ". " but I am saying the sin of that rich man and indeed every unbeliever is the sin of unbelief. To back up my position, I quoted John 3:18 which says, "He who believes in Him [who clings to, trusts in, relies on Him] is not judged [he who trusts in Him never comes up for judgment; for him there is no rejection, no condemnation--he incurs no damnation]; but he who does not believe (cleave to, rely on, trust in Him) is judged already [he has already been convicted and has already received his sentence] because he has not believed in and trusted in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [He is condemned for refusing to let his trust rest in Christ's name.]" Amp |
Apina:Your assertion is great but I am convinced you missed an important point as your assertion is not rooted enough in scripture. Condemnation which lands people in hell is first and foremost due to the sin of unbelief. John 3:18 What you do or do not do is immaterial as long as faith in God is not in place. You can give your body to be burnt for the poor if you want but unless you first believe that God is and a rewarder of those who diligently seek him, you cannot please God. This thought is evident in verses 28-30 of the Luke scripture OP posted. God calls everyone to put their faith in Christ Jesus and come to him in repentance. |
irynterri:Look at verse 28-30 and it will be clear that; 1) The rich man was not remotely confused as per what his sin was. 2) He knew he did not repent and knew also that if his brothers do not repent, they will join him in hell. 3) God requirement for all who will escape that fate is one and the same: Faith in the lord Jesus. |

I hope you know that as far as a goat is concerned, the internet by means of which me and you are connecting does not exist. But does that make the internet any less real? No! My dear friend, I wish I could help you but I can't. However I have prayed for you. |
hopefulLandlord:You should probably either review Pascal's wager or my view as there is nothing similar in the 2. I am not guessing the reality of God neither am I partially certain that Jesus is the way to God. My theology is not just so that I don't lose out in eternity should I hold that there is no God and get to eternity only to find that there actually is God. I am FULLY PERSUADED that God is and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. I am pretty sure that you are not half as intellectually dexterous or scientifically literate as Pascal was but he knew enough to know that science does not and cannot answer the God question so he posed his wager which should actually makes sense. On a final note, God is a spirit and because science only measures what can be seen, heard or sensed physically, science CANNOT measure, prove or disprove the existence of God. You can only believe or disbelieve! Note however that not even God seeks to rob you of your right to choose what you want and note also that whatever choice you make in this matter is an important determinant of the eternal destiny of your soul. The staunchest atheist won't spend 1 day in hell before realizing the utter foolishness of his acclaimed intellectual dexterity. My only prayer for you is that you discover your foolishness long before you face your maker in eternity in Jesus name, amen |
Mariinee:My dear mariinee, the simple fact that the prophet did not know what was going to become of the eternal destiny of his spirit or of his followers is one of the many reasons why he cannot command my following. Secondly, the death and resurrection of Jesus was not meant to take away man's freedom to choose. It was meant to make it possible for man to return to God his home following the fall which is why the bible says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever BELIEVES in him will not perish but have everlasting life" Jn 3:16 What that means is, if in spite of his death, one chooses not to believe, heavens will not fall but he or she misses out on the eternal life God made possible through Jesus and perishes in hell which has always been the intent of Satan. |
hopefulLandlord:I find it very funny when I encounter free thinkers who bandy the assertion that faith in God amounts to intellectual laziness. Where has your intellectual dexterity led you? Think about it, even in the physical world, Newtonian mechanic laws are very valid for as long as speeds are not approaching the speeds of light and masses not approaching subatomic orders. Newton's erstwhile valid laws do not hold in those realms! How then can you hope to explain God who is spirit and require those who worship him to worship in truth and in spirit with your eyes, hands, ears, mouth? For the sake of the eternal destiny of your spirit, I advice you to repent before God and beg him to give you faith to believe that he is and he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him (Heb 11:6) Faith that he exists comes before evidence of hia existence |
hopefulLandlord:The bible was written on 3 different continents by 40+ others under divine inspiration of the Holy Ghost over a period of over 1500 years. That puts the bible in a class all its own as it is a book of books. It is one of histories most reliable reference material so if you think I should not use the bible to explain the bible, what will you suggest? archeology, science or metaphysics? |
walepackage:Not really, if we realise how that God's thoughts and ways are indescribably higher than our thoughts ways (Isaiah 55:9), we will be content with what he has revealed. Just imagine a one year old child asking his mother what is in her womb and how it got there? No matter the explanation the mom gives, he is never going to understand. At least until another decade. Make peace with the fact that God is not your mate. |
richythePH:Everything you are saying can be compared to an ant that is busy arguing with fellow ants that THERE IS NO INTERNET simply because it lacks capacity to grasp the subject. There is much more in creation beyond the 3-d world me and you are used to and it will do you good to simply stop where the word of God stops. Deut 29:29 |
