In 1979 elections, Bendel state (now Edo and Delta states - SS) voted Awolowo.

You know your origins but claim to be distinct? You migrated from Bini but claim to have since created a new language, culture and are now distinct? Who is fooling who?

Ikwerre people are Bini people, and they should own up to their heritage rather than the deceit that they are a seperate ethnic group. Someone from Bini is distinct?

If you bother to be objective and read History, you will see that they have been claiming distinct identity before oil and the civil war.

1958- Ikwerre presented memo to the Willinkins Commission to look into the fears of the Minorities.

1963- Ogbakwor Ikwerre formed as an Umbrella Body of the Ikwerre

1964: Rumuobasi declaration which declared Ikwerre as being distinct from Igbo or Ijaw or Ogoni.


All the above show that the Ikwerre have been clamouring for recognization as a distinct ethnic group long before the civil war
