Awon ashiere!

Look at the debt Buhari racked up in 8 years, and look at what the profligate nuisance in power has racked up in just one year. Now look at what Obasanjo did and left behind after 8 years. Obasanjo left a debt of $2b (foreign) and 2trn naira (domestic), yet the much touted brilliant accountant who in reality is just an evil corrupt being, inherited a domestic debt of N19.24 trillion and external debt of $33.62 billion from another useless incompetent maalu, and by the end of the first quarter of 2024, Nigeria has domestic debt of N65.65 trillion and external debt of $42.12 billion. 2b went to 42b, and 2trn went to 65trn! And we are still wondering who destroyed the country. Ani ko le rogbo fun gbogbo awon to'n defend and entrench this desolation of our land. It is one thing to be ignorant, it is another to be willfully evil. Misfortune will not depart from all willfully evil people, like the toads at dem manna croak, no be curse na fact!

May APC and all who support their destruction of this country not end well in life. Quote me if the shoe fits, and let your life be ruined irreparably from this second forthwith.

Look at the debt this profligate bitch has racked up in one year, despite supposedly saving money from not paying subsidies. One year!!!!

No surprises here.

That is what I hate about Dems

Their morbid hypocrisy. EVERY ELECTION CYCLE IT'S THE SAME WITH THEM..THEY MAKE IT ABOUT RACE. They always play the damn race card, but they do nothing for the black community once in. To make matters worse, they call Trump racist. You make everything about race, not cos you care, but cos you want to win elections, and in same breath accuse your opponent of racism, with no evidence for that matter.

Imagine if Trump were to have granted an interview blasting all white people who are supporting Kamala. OBAMA is doing just that and there's no fuss. Biden said same in 2020, 'if you don't vote for me, you ain't black enough'...empty one-trick ponies and weaklings making everything about race, and now even gender.

Look... Tinubu is still ruling Lagos with a iron fist and everyone knows that. Those governors are just for show. All what they are doing is part of Tinubu's agenda. Fashola and ambode tried to derail from the plan. Fashola escaped cos he had to later succumb but ambode didn't escape cos he was adamant. I know that tinubu did not start the first template for Lagos. It was jakande but tinubu did a lot too. He couldn't stay as governor of Lagos past 8 yrs so he had to put his boys there to finish the work. I know you don't like tinubu. I don't like him too but give him credit where it's due. Like I said earlier, don't let emotions get the better of you. If you look at the way Lagos is structured, you'll see his blueprints all over even though the governors also played parts. Tinubu goofed by going for presidency. Ruling Lagos and ruling Nigeria ain't the same thing
you know it's his agenda/template how? Is that a positive even? That someone from the class of 1999 is still the one and the only one for that matter holding a state to ransom. Only him out of 36 governors.

Enjoy the emperor then.

I hope you sha don't come and tell me Fashola or ambode or sanwoolu were the builders of Lagos in future when they also want to possibly contest for something. You all have already used that ticket for the emperor ooo. Why vote for 'mere tools' in future when we have the balablu brains gangan now?

To be fair, from my conversations with Mr Ibe, I sensed that Nigeria do am strong thing when he invested in the country sometime around 2011/12. So seeing the country go through this travail makes him happy. A sort of a schadenfreude. Also, I must state it something most wouldn't. But the average Igbo person is happy that Nigeria(ns) is going through a lot. The history of Nigeria and Igbos, especially with the fact that Igbos were mocked and derided for not supporting Buhari in 2015 and Tinubu in 2023, makes us relish in joy. It is a catch-22 situation as Igbos are Nigerians and the southeast is in Nigeria, but the country has not been fair to us even before independence.

For one, I am ready to mock anyone who supported Buhari in 2015 who is going through a lot. I just don't have the time to make posts as Mr Ibe who is probably due to retire. But you see Buhari's supporters? If they want to die, I would be glad to hasten the death process.

Wouldn't it have been better to procure loans from established banks? I don't mean these loan sharks organisations, but standard financial organisations.

To be fair to Mr Ibe too, he has mentioned how he has assisted many young Nigerians settling within his neighbourhood in the US. So, he is not that bad. As for the Nigerian economy, I find it hard to understand any longer. But I am all for less government interference in the economy.
about the loans... I didnt go that route cos the problem was not so much the lack of liquidity, as it was the fact that for the first time in a long time I was fearful for the future and needed to get a safety net ASAP. I needed something sure as a back up, as also as a means of increasing my capital base to grow the existing business or divest into something else.

What I sell are basically consumer discretionary goods, and with the dreadful squeeze in disposable income, I have been badly affected... sales has been topsy-turvy for the most part this year. Hence, my decision to get back on the saddle before shit hits the fan😁.

If it was about governorship, Obi didn't really do well. The only outstanding stuff he did was save state money and that is a very good one which means we can separate him from corruption. On the other side, Tinubu did better with infrastructure but the agberoism na wetin I hate so much. Politicians in Nigeria generally dip their hands in dirty stuff. Forget the whole cocaine thing. Tinubu wasn't the only politician involved in cocaine. It was gold then in those days and a lot of them put hand. If Obi chapter is opened ehn, you go open mouth. Atiku himself was part of the saboteurs in the electricity distribution. Politicians would always play politics so I'll advise that you don't allow emotions take over. I voted for Obi in the last election and the only reason I may not vote for him again is if a candidate better than him shows up.
Tinubu did nothing in terms of infrastructure in the 8 years when HE was governor. Fashola particularly, and the ones after him built infrastructure. You can provide proof if e sure for you.

I hate reading that lie.

I suspect the next thing you'd do is credit him for the successes of Fashola, Ambode and Sanwoolu..

But the other reason I didn't want to even pass any comment about the logic of the poster, was cos of the sordid and tacky reputation of said poster. I do agree. I think the government have introduced some policies aimed at attracting foreign investors, but these policies need to be consistent over time to reassure investors of the protection of their investments. On the other hand, there are still many outdated laws which hinder investments.

The issue with Dangote's refinery is that he wants to be the ONLY supplier of petroleum products to Nigeria. That is wrong. Also, even if we have to only depend on local refiners, we should wait for others to come on board (BUA and other modular refiners). In the meantime, Dangote should refine and sell at whatever price he desires, but he cannot be the sole supplier of petroleum products to Nigeria.

Maybe if Tinubu, Buhari, Sanusi, Amaechi, the majority of Nigerians and Co had realised that subsidy existed rather than fight Jonathan and NOI, we would not be in the present situation.

Subsidy had to go. We cannot continue subsidising petrol for a humongous population that has porous borders. However, Dangote should not be the sole supplier. If he cannot compete in a market-based pricing system, he should sell to buyers elsewhere. It is a free world.

I recall my argument when I was much younger in 2012. They were (paraphrased): the government has no business running refineries. They should be handed over to private businesses. The government should subsidise primary and secondary school education and healthcare. However, everything else should be privatised.

I am pretty proud of myself for the consistency and the fact that my position has been the best in more than a decade.

From your your mention

While this is true, the issue was enthroning Buhari/APC into power. Buhari who was a dictator was never going to suddenly change into a reformed democrat like the ediots in Red Media. Buhari should not have become the president in 2015. That is where the problem commenced from.

[code]Why do we have to still defend the naira? Should the currency not be allowed to be where it ought to be on its own?

To be honest, regardless of the CBN governor's qualifications and credentials, he would still be answerable to Tinubu. There is little independence between both corridors of power, especially judging Emefiele and Buhari's bromance.

APC has lied for more than a decade since I started following Nigeria's politics. Since 2021, the consistency should be applauded though. It went on an overdrive in 2014-2015.

I thought I saw insecurity somewhere, but the silence from some parts of the country, when Fulani herdsmen went overdrive in destroying communities, ransacking people's farmlands and causing havoc across many parts of the country, was terrible. Nigeria is too divisive to get a president or politicians who have the country's heart.
bro, we have to defend the naira because we simply do not have the capacity to do the alternative, at least not in the immediate, which is to be a net exporter of finished goods and not just raw materials. Becoming an industrialized nation clearly cannot happen overnight. We are not even on the path to it. So, no point deceiving ourselves with textbook policies that simply don't apply in our case at this time. All they needed to do was hold the fort till at least this Dangote refinery came on stream. That was all they needed to do. 40% of our Forex goes to petrol imports...Dangote comes online, that 40% Forex is saved, increase in supply of USD available to go round. If they had done that fuel wouldn't be more than 500 now and it would have been kept consistent since may 2023, all these supply challenges wouldn't have happened...the subsidy removal would have been absolute, monies actually saved, not this one that they have still being actively doing 'shortfall' cos the naira became that worthless.

Our circumstances were/are not textbook circumstances that needed textbook prescriptions. They should have employed commonsense.
PoliticsRe: Funny Picture: Tpain Abeg Let Nigerians Breathe On This Fuel Increase by Treadway:

Any politician that tells you that you can remove subsidy and things will get suddenly better within 1 year is a hardcore liar and only telling you what you wish to hear.

Other countries that do stuffs like this have citizens that are educated and patriotic. Nigerians are too divided for anyone to persevere and wait for policy to bear fruit. Most times it takes years for things to stabilize.
lies, lies, and lies

The problem wasn't the subsidy removal. Subsidy removal wasnt what caused the out of control hyper-inflation ravaging the country. Devaluing the naira was the problem, and the cause of all the shit that has gotten out of control. The naira is now tissue paper thanks to balablu. If the naira was kept stable at least till Dangote comes on stream, fuel would be around 500 today not 500x3.

The price either has to increase or the product becomes scarcer as long as subsidies exist. There are no two ways about it.
in reality? Not exactly. I already addressed this point you touched on, in my earlier thread below.

https://www.nairaland.com/8017949/how-nigeria-people-govt-got

Thanks to the accursed govt's decision to turn the naira to tissue paper, the days of having unfettered access to pms without queues are gone for the foreseeable future. It simply ain't gonna happen anytime soon. So increasing fuel price like you opined in your post, isn't going to guarantee availablity, rather it will do the opposite. Only the big players, majorly NNPC and Bovas will be able to continue fuel retail business due to the cost of the product, and even they will not be able to do so consistently everyday as used to be the case before this demon came in. A full tanker of pms will now cost above 50m naira, so ten stations would be half a billion, get the picture? Most NNPC stations are franchises, so not all NNPC stations have the capacity to buy and sell, as we can see today.

So with very few players, you can expect the queues not to disappear anytime soon, cos Nigerians are passionate sufferers, they will still buy the fuel, at whatever cost, but it won't be readily available cos the cost of the product will ensure that it is not constantly available at many locations. Our new reality is the fuel will be expensive, and only few will be dispensing the product, so you will still queue to buy the product, however expensive.

The fools online and offline that were expecting fuel to be 300, how far?

As usual, the fools don't even know that the worst has just begun. Let me explain, even though fools still won't understand.

Fuel is gonna be expensive yea, but that is not all, you will still queue likely everyday to buy it. It will not be ready available anytime soon, maybe not even a year from now.

Cos only 1 full tanker will cost approx 50m naira, ONLY NNPC and a few big players eg Bovas will have the financial muscle to buy stock, meaning all the small players with small petrol stations will never open again. Even the Bovas will not buy stock everyday compared to when fuel was affordable. 10 Bovas station would amount to a bill of 500m, if na you would you be spending that everyday?? Meaning only the NNPC, will readily have fuel, meaning queues. The era of readily getting fuel anywhere is basically dead and gone for the foreseeable future. So much for fuel subsidy removal as a solution to all problems as touted by nairalan1.

God go punish APC for making the naira toilet paper. We will not be in the hapless hopeless state, if they just kept the naira strong till this refinery started. I don't see any respite anytime soon. You will buy fuel at high rates and still toil and queue to find/buy it.

Ha! What a shambles!
that was my post on Sep 16. It is alarming how inacapable of critical thinking most Nigerians are. Should this come across as a a surprise to any person capable of critical thinking? NO

ObosiLandlord:
The CBN is not dashing anybody 1 Kobo. They are printing more naira notes so people who have money in their account will have more access to their money whenever they want to withdraw from ATM. More ATM machines will now have more cash in them
so Nigeria is no longer pursuing a cashless policy according to you? Do you know till now, there are huge charges applicable to certain volume of cash transactions both for individual accounts and corporate accounts, and all that is in a bid to discourage the use of physical cash?

Are you forgetful, being mischievous, or just ignorant?

Why were they making noise about emefoole printing ways and means then, and the excess cash in circulation? Or was that all a figment of our imagination?
