Minister of Finance, Budget and Planning, Zainab Ahmed says most of the Nigeria's capital projects are recycled thus gulping huge amount of money on a yearly basis. She, then, said that the Nigerian government is working on review of salaries which may lead to slashing of salaries of federal workers. The minister stated this as one of the remedies to reduce the high cost of governance. Ahmed revealed this in Abuja at a forum tagged Policy Dialogue on Corruption and Cost of Governance in Nigeria on Tuesday. The event was organised by the national headquarters of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. The minister said President Muhammadu Buhari had asked the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission to review the salaries of civil servants and employees of many agencies in the country to save cost. She, therefore, charged the agencies to work towards cutting down cost because of deteriorating revenues by the government. According to her, the Nigerian government plans to remove certain items from the budget to reduce the cost of governance. She said, “We still see government expenditure increase to a terrain twice higher than our revenue. The nation’s budgets are filled every year with projects that are recycled over and over again and are also not necessary. “Mr President has directed that the salaries committee that I chair work together with the head of service and other members of the committee to review the government payrolls in terms of cutting down on cost,’’ Ahmed said. In his remarks, the ICPC chairman, Prof Bolaji Owasanoye (SAN) listed payroll padding and the saga of ghost workers and abuse of recruitment as areas of concern in governance cost. http://saharareporters.com/2021/05/05/nigerian-government-broke-may-slash-workers-salaries-finance-minister-laments Mynd44, Lalasticlala Lalasticlala Lalasticlala Lalasticlala |
An Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi, on Tuesday urged government not to take the threat by the kidnappers of students of Greenfield University, Kaduna lightly. Gumi, who stated this in an interview with The PUNCH, said the Central Bank of Nigeria should pay the N100m ransom being demanded by the kidnappers of the students. He made the call as a parent of one of the abductees lamented that the kidnappers were insisting on a ransom of N100m. The parent, who spoke to one of our correspondents in Kaduna on condition of anonymity, lamented that the bandits were still insisting on their demands and threatening to kill the students. No fewer than 23 students and a member of staff of the university were abducted from the school on April 20, 2021. Few days later, five of the students were killed by the bandits. On Monday, one of the bandits, Sani Jalingo, in an interview with the Hausa service of the Voice of America, demanded N100m and 10 motorcycles for the students to be freed. He threatened that the failure of the Kaduna State Government or families of the students to meet the demands by Tuesday (yesterday), would lead to the killing of the abductees. Bandits not shifting ground, insist on N100m, 10 motorcycles – Parent cries out The parent, who spoke to The PUNCH correspondent in Kaduna at 9pm on Tuesday, called on the Federal Government to do everything possible to rescue the students. He also called on corporate organisations to assist in rescuing the students. He said the call became imperative as the bandits stood their ground that unless their demands were met the remaining students would be killed. He said, “The bandits still stand their ground of demanding N100m and ten motorcycles; no individual negotiation. “We are calling on the government to do whatever it can to see to the release of our children. Our children have stayed long in the forest. “We don’t know the state of their health at the moment. We don’t know whether they are being fed or how they are treated by the bandits. “All that we can say now is for the government of the day, especially, the Federal Government and well-meaning Nigerians to come to our aid. We can’t afford the N100m and the motorcycles demanded by the bandits. “We are also calling on corporate organisations to come under their corporate social responsibilities to assist us to get our children out of the bandits’ den.” Gumi, who spoke on Tuesday during a programme of the African Independent Television, Kakaaki, monitored by one of our correspondents, said he needed the support of the Federal Government to rescue the students. When asked if he was aware of the kidnap of the students of Greenfield University and the Federal College of Forestry, he said “As for the forestry students, we have been trying to see whether we can get some of the herdsmen’s contact so that they can release these people. “We have also been trying our best but you know we have limitations, there are lots of obstacles on the way but the parents have been really consulting with us.” On the Greenfield University students, the cleric said, “The issue of the Greenfield students is a little bit more complex. “There are two groups of bandits. We have the ordinary Fulani ethnic herdsmen and the religious elements, terrorists. That is why we have been telling the government to support us so that we can go in and bring the children out. “The issue is getting compounded because this element is coming in; Boko Haram is coming into the scene now. They are the ones that captured Greenfield students. It is not a question of sleeping. You have to act very fast.” Gumi asks FG to pay the N100m ransom Gumi, who spoke to one of our correspondents on the telephone, lamented that his efforts, which had been yielding fruits, were not being appreciated by the government. He said, “ The money they are asking for is too much; if I give you that money, you cannot run away with it. Nobody can run. So, why not give them the money, they release the boys and then we pursue them and get our money back and do what is necessary; it is simple logic. So, bring the money from the central bank. How can they move that money? We should not be stupid. “These people are getting infiltrated; Boko Haram is getting close and they don’t respect the clergy. I need support to get them inoculated against the infiltration of these ideologies, whether Boko Haram or Ansaru, whatever it is. We need to shield them because they are naïve. If there is too much pressure on them, and they see help from Boko Haram, who are richer and have more weapons, it is going to consume everybody.” In an interview with journalists on Tuesday, the National President of the Parents Teacher Association, Haruna Danjuma, urged the bandits to spare the lives of the innocent students. Also, the National President, Foundation for The Protection of Women and Children, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, appealed to the abductors for the sake of the Holy Month of Ramadan, not to kill any student. The two groups made the appeal as one of the kidnapped students of the Greenfield University regained freedom. It was learnt that the student was released on Saturday before the bandits made their fresh demands on Monday. On Tuesday, Lauretta Attahiru, mother of the released student, confirmed the development to journalists. https://punchng.com/cbn-should-pay-n100m-greenfield-students-ransom-before-its-too-late-gumi/ Mynd44, Lalasticlala |

SUV's are the best type of cars for the kind of rubbish roads we have in Nigeria and as far as SUVs go, the Toyota Highlander is the best any day, any time. It is easy to maintain, you can drive it for over 30 years without facing any major engine problems other than normal routine servicing. Just make sure you change the oil regularly, like every three months and you will be okay. Also, try and buy the one that was manufactured by in Toyota's Japanese factories because the ones made by the Japanese Factory workers are of superior quality to the ones made in Toyota's other manufacturing plants around the world, like Mexico, United States, India, China, Phlipines etc. The Toyota Highlander is the best thing you can ever drive on a Nigerian road. A Nigerian man, Yusuf Owolabi Abdul, is on the verge of being jailed in the United States over crimes allegedly committed by a former local government chairman in Nigeria. Abdul, a Nigerian resident in Canada, was extradited from Germany to the United States. He will be presented on Monday in New York before Magistrate Judge Ona T. Wang over crimes committed by a former chairman of Somolu Local government area, Abdul Hamed Salawu. He faces a fraud charge that may put him behind bars for up to 30 years. ⠀⠀⠀ The United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Audrey Strauss, said Abdul was extradited to New York on Friday to carry out his boss's orders in Nigeria. According to reports, Salawu's trust in his partnership with the suspect made him get a passport for him in his name to Germany. It was gathered that the prime suspect, Abdul Hamed Salawu, engaged in criminal activities before and after his emergence as chairman in 2017. Salawu Dullar, as he is popularly known, who spent over a decade in the US and Canada, is said to be the head of a notorious cartel defrauding Americans and other nationals. "I travelled abroad and in 2008, I returned to Nigeria and that's when the journey into politics began," the chairman was quoted to have said in an interview. Dullar lived in the European nation where he had a daughter with a German woman but left after committing a felony, WithinNigeria said. Information revealed that his friend might have mentioned his name but he's seeking re-election to use government office to dodge prosecution. It is on record that he was barred from entering the USA after his conviction for credit card fraud. Meanwhile, another investigation has shown links between Salawu and the immediate past Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial, Ahmed Ogembe. The ex-lawmaker is believed to be Salawu's elder brother and the Somolu LGA boss is reportedly using his certificate for politics. While the former Senator bears Ahmed Salau Ogembe, the Lagos LGA chairman uses a modification Ahmed' Salawu'. To avoid any complication, the latter is said to have removed their surname 'Ogembe' from his name, replaced by his nickname 'Dullar', while all his siblings use Ogembe. http://saharareporters.com/2021/05/03/nigerian-faces-30-year-jail-term-us-over-connection-fraud-committed-ex-shomolu-council Mynd44, Lalasticlala |
Finally the link between the Nigerian Army and kidnapping is being gradually unraveled. We are now beginning to see why the army always responds very slowly and reluctantly when kidnapping operations are in progress. We can also remember that the kidnapping at the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization in Kaduna took place next to an army barracks. Only a fool would think that only dismissed soldiers are involved in this racket. |

We’ve been printing money, but swore oath to always lie to Nigerians: Rotimi Amaechi The Buhari administration has been on a cash-printing spree since it assumed office in 2015, but showed little courage at being transparent about it. Transport minister Rotimi Ameachi has been caught on tape admitting that President Muhammadu Buhari has always ordered the CBN to keep printing money since 2015, Peoples Gazette can report. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXKP7jN3ayo Mr Buhari vowed to revamp the Nigerian economy in his campaign promises, but has been criticised for worsening the economic situation over the past six years of his regime. In an interview with journalists prior to the 2019 general election in which Mr Buhari was re-elected, Mr Amaechi also disclosed that they swore an oath never to publicly admit to Nigerians that the government was on a printing spree of the national currency. “And most of you didn’t know at the time we took over, most Nigerians don’t even know because we have sworn to an oath not to tell anybody we were printing money,” Mr Amaechi said. "Do you know when a country prints money? When it has no money at all,” he said. “We were just printing money to pay debt.” Mr Amaechi’s comments further exposed the cover-up that has followed Mr Buhari’s widely condemned approach to the country’s economy, as millions of citizens continue to plunge into poverty. Nigeria has since emerged as the country with the highest number of poor people in the world. The country also has the poorest electricity supply and the second country with the most jobless people worldwide. Earlier this year, renowned credit rating institution Fitch said the Nigerian central bank under Mr Buhari has been printing money at an alarming rate, warning that such tactics could engender additional economic woes for the country’s 200 million people. Last month, Governor Godwin Obaseki expressed concerns on crude oil revenue, disclosing that the federal government printed extra N60 billion for states to share in March. “In another year or so, where will we find this money that we go to Abuja to share every month? Last month, we got FAAC for March,” he said, explaining that “the federal government printed an additional ₦50 to ₦60 billion to top-up for us to share”. "My worry is that we will wake up one day like Argentina, the naira will be ₦1,000, ₦2,000 and will be moving because we don’t have money coming in,” he maintained while lamenting that the current administration borrows without means or the idea of paying back. In response, the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed accused the governor of spreading falsehood, stating that “The issue that was raised by the Edo state governor for me is very, very sad because it is not a fact”. Similarly, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, dismissed Mr Obaseki’s claim, describing it as “unfortunate and totally inappropriate”. Addressing the matter while speaking with journalists, Mr Emefiele said: “If you understand the concept of printing of money. The concept printing of money, it’s about lending money. “That’s our job – to print. It’s about lending money and so there’s no need putting the controversy about the printing of money as if we are going into the factory printing the naira and start distributing on the streets.” Prior to Mr Buhari’s assumption of office on May 29, 2015, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo disclosed that their administration would inherit $60 billion as foreign and domestic debt from the Goodluck Jonathan administration. Mr Osinbajo had also described the state of the Nigerian economy as unfortunate, stating that the nation has to spend 21 percent of its 2015 budget on debt servicing. “We are concerned that our economy is currently in perhaps its worst moment in history. Local and international debt stands at $60 billion. Our debt servicing bill for 2015 is N953.6 billion, about 21 per cent of our budget,” the vice president had said. A spokesman for Mr Amaechi did not return repeated requests seeking comments for the minister’s audio, which was part of a scandalous series that emerged in the run-up to the 2019 elections. Although Mr Buhari and his appointees have been claiming repeatedly that they met an empty treasury, available facts showed the claim as untrue. The administration met at least $2.07 billion in excess crude accounts as of May 2015 when it came in. https://www.gazettengr.com/weve-been-printing-money-but-swore-oath-to-always-lie-to-nigerians-rotimi-amaechi/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost&s=09 Mynd44 Lalasticlala |
