Hopefully it would be the same evolution that would be used to take back what has been stolen . . .

Found themselves in power by stealing it through deceit .  .  . yea right  . . .
It is not stealing. It was just what the political system then allowed. You cannot use your common sense to judge or justify the actions of the past. Everything done in the past is base on the common interest of the people at that time. The Sokoto Empire was the rising Superpower in the region then, and it was politically wise for them to align themselves with the dominating superpower of the region. Just like the way many countries are aligning themseves with America. Hence the Fulani did not steal or decieve anybody then.

- Okay . . . .thank you for the advice . . .

- Knowing the truth about history helps to know why certain decisions are being made in the present . . .

- For example . . . kindly tell the Hausa Fulanis to relinquish Ilorin that was stolen via deceit from the Afonjas who invited them and who the Hausa-Fulanis stole Ilorin from . . .unless off course you support the Nigerian concept of lets sweep it under the carpet.
Nothing was stolen here. Everything that happen is a process of evolution of the Nigerian Society. The human society evolve from the past and that is how it shall continue. You can never undo the past. It is just like Red Indians will ask the whites to leave the North America and move back to Europe. You just have to accept the fact that you cannot undo 200 years of history just to satisfy the fantasy of the Yoruba people. Look at the way the Northern Nigeria is set up. The Fulani, who are the minority found themselves in the position of power and you never hear any society complaining that the Fulani should move back to Mali or Senegal.

You guys are all funny. The ealier you forget about these things the better. Because you guys all look the same, and I have no doubts you guys all come from the same ancestor whether he is Bini or Oduduwa. All these things about Oduduwa, do they even make sense to you? Why are you guys sticking to these myths and folklores

These people and their trivial tribal jargons. Why are you people wasting your valuable time on these things that do not really matter. Everyone migrated from somewhere, only somebody come first. The whole Nigeria is less than 1 million square kilometer and the southern part of Nigeria is less than 300,000 square kilometer, and you are all trying to fight on this small piece of land. You guys, you all look like alike.  What is the difference between Ibori, Oshiomole and Tinibu. You guys you all look alike something wasting your time trying to find difference where there is non.

I don't need to provide any academic link; let the Ijaws claim they were part of Ondo state before Independence. To answer your question, yes, they are guests. That is the problem with Migration sometimes; guests forget they are guests. Just like the Asian muslims clamouring for Sharia law in the UK.
you are right. . . but then everyone is a guest. . . why are you people so focus about this minor thing

I am not disputing this; what I dispute is your comment about thieves representing the people. It is simple, they do not represent anyone but themselves.
Either the people are blind to follow them, or they represent the will of the people. Else people like Adedebu won't have had any influence in our society.

Cultural differences make it easier for unity in the North and more difficult in the South. Thats why the British selfishly left power in the North.
Actually the British did not leave power in the north. The British left a loose federation of 3 nations, where individual regions control their economic and political system.
PoliticsRe: Group Canvasses For Yoruba Autonomy by Tsiya(m): 11:59pm On Jan 13, 2010
The political and economic system in Nigeria is for thugs and thieves and no matter how intellegently you argue, the fact on the ground is divergent to your reasoning. The Ekiti election and Anambara are good example of what is happening on ground. Therefore don't be carried away by political correctness. Fashola is a product of the corrupt system and don't expect him to be differen in 2011 if there is another more credible candidate, he can employ all the agberos to rig the election.

Our political sytem is intertwined with thuggery, thievery and tribalism. You cannot divorce them

To be honest, this group seeking autonomy don't represent Yoruba people. Its just the crooks seeking relevance as OAM4J and Katsumoto have noted. They are the Ibori's and Odili's of Yoruba land. The genuine leaders wouldn't make the sort of primitive and imperialistic land grab that those guys are making. Since Fashola isn't in that group, we can best forget about them.
It is not any group seeking relevance. They represent the interest of the Yoruba nation and you will be suprise they are funded by their state governors and other political god fathers. Fashola for now is in the establishment and will not be publicly rocking the boat but he will be happy to support them. 2003 was just 6-7years ago and we wont easily forget their political machinations. All Yoruba have the same self interest. The OPC are serving the Yoruba interest and that is why they are supporting them.

If that is the case, then there is hope the Northerners will do the same after this dispensation and peacefully break away.
No, there is no such thing as power rotation within the Northern states. But there is such thing as power ration within the southern states. The agreement was powershift between north and south, not geopolitical zones. If the current arrangement continues what you will have is:

2011-2015 North(4 years)
2015-2023 SouthSouth/SouthEast(8 years)
2023-2029 North (8 years)
2029-2037 SouthEast/SouthSouth(8 years)
2037-2045 North (8years)
- - - - - - - -+ (36 years)
2045----- Yoruba

So in their own primitive mind, they thing it will remain like this forever and therefore the need to stratagise otherwise they will be scheme out in the looting system.

Have you guys notice lately Olu Falae and Bola Tinubu (the self aclaimed new leaders of the Yoruba Nation) running helter skelter between between Lagos, Sokoto, Kaduna, Katsina and Adamawa trying to form a Mega Party? What did Olu Falae and Tinibu have in common with Buhari, Atiku and Bafarawa? And now seen that their Mega Party is not going to become a reality, they decide to instigate something from somewhere.

Katsumoto:
Breaking away from Nigeria requires bold action from courageous leaders; Daniels, Akala, Ooni, are not the type of leaders to lead such a move. Even a courageous and well-meaning leader like Ojukwu was unable to free the Igbos from Nigeria. Having said that, the circumstances are different from the 60s. All in all, unless there are some credible leaders somewhere, the others are a bunch of jokers.
I think the idea of having an independent country is to have no one to blame for your ills. If the Yoruba go away as a Nation, assuming, they have good intention, they will have their own criminals, thieves, ashawos, police and a justice system that is not alien to their culture and belief and they do not need to compromise in order to make certain people happy.

However, I do not think the current Yoruba people agitating for an independent nation cares about the progress. Rather they just felt, since their own is  not the president or vice, they have lost a political voice. It is all about Political appointment. We saw what they did during OBJ and they will do the same thing when next a Yoruba man become President even if he is from Kwara.

But I think from their calculation, there won't be any Yoruba man as President of Nigeria in the next 36 years if the current system continues and that is not acceptable to them. Well I agree with this point

These guys don't even look serious. See as Soyinka de talk him grammar say like he is in a University Lecture room. And this Faruk guy, see as him dey talk, like say he dey distribute Sadaka to his Almajirai. Is that how he talked when he was doing his do or die campaign to be elected member of house of reps?

Overall, I am impressed that Nigerians could stage such a rally. It shows democracy is taking gradually becoming a reality in Nigeria. Though next election will be another do or die affair

You guys should not be celebrating. Yar'adua is not dead. If he is, certainly, the foreign media will report that. Even the foreign media are quoting Nigerian media as a source.

Yar'adua being a muslim, they will not keep his body.

It is unfortunate that his handlers had allowed this to reach this level, but Yar'adua is not dead so far.

As the VP, he is the only person that have the moral authority to address the Nigerian Nation on anything, including making sure, the sick President get the best medical attention available in the world.

If he doesn't want to take over from the President, being loyal, and he has spine, he would have come out and tell us his stand, and make sure, the President did not rot in Saudi death Chamber. But what kind vice is this? He will sit down and some silly Special Adviser (who doesn't have any moral and legal authority to speak for the president and Nigeria, will be addressing.

The house, if they were good people, should have impeach of the duo and organise new election. Jonathan is just a dead maga

It is shocking to read stuff from some Nigerians without any respect for facts. The other day I read where he stated that 6000MW would amount to 58 minutes using 60W bulb.

It seems he never takes time to understand certain issues before commenting on them.
It should be recalled that this administration, nearly 2 years ago, not only revised downwards the Obasanjo plan of 10,000MW by the end of December 2007, but promised the delivery of only 6,000 MW within 18 months, and also an additional 11,000MW by 2011. Now, to put this reduced target in perspective, 6,000MW continuously generated and distributed for 150 million people, equally shared per person will only power a single 60W light bulb for about 58 minutes a day! The rest of the nearly 23 hours will be part dark, and part without any radio, TV, refrigerator or fan working. And forget about air-conditioning!

http://el-rufai.org/2010/01/nigerias-power-failure/#more-105
While I acknowledge that 6000MW is very meager and just sufficient enough to power 60Million, 100W Electric bulbs, the arguement that ii will just power60W for 58 minutes is ridiculous. The quote above is from his website, where he famously attacks Yar'adua on anything and  defends OBJ government. If he argues 6000MW as enough to power Electric bulbs for 58 minutes as the time they left this country what was their generating capacity? Was it not less than 3000MW sometimes going as low as below a 2000MW and that was in may 2007. How could he justify his claim that they would have met 11,000MW between June to December?

ElRufa'i is suffering from narcisstic disorder. ElRufai is a liar and one of the major problems Nigeria is suffering from.

El Rufai can do anything to gain recognition.

We wont forget his Third term campaign for Obj. We wont forget his mismanagement of NITEL. We wont forget destruction of lives and properties in the name of Master Plan. We wont forget that, he plays very important part in the appointment of Yar'adua as president. He stinks of Nigerian problems. He want to claim he is a saint and a victim.

Dear Mr. President,

It is an honor to humbly address myself to you on this occasion, and extend a warm greeting to wish you a successful New Year.

Nevertheless, there are strong arguments which point out that the addition of Nigeria to a terrorism list causes more damage than benefit. For example, we have seen terror attempts perpetrated by a wide variety of nationalities and ethnic backgrounds, so it is impossible to define a typology. Yemeni authorities also indicate that the individual was recruited in London, United Kingdom, a close ally of the United States. Furthermore, following the reprehensible terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, passengers arriving from Saudi Arabia to the United States were not subjected to this kind of treatment, despite the fact that eleven of the attackers held Saudi passports.

As you may know, given your family origins, your election last year held great meaning for us, as Nigerians poured into the streets to broadly celebrate new possibilities and optimism for the people of Africa. As a proud Muslim man, I was inspired by your historic June 4th speech in Cairo, in which you stated "So long as our relationship is defined by our differences, we will empower those who sow hatred rather than peace, those who promote conflict rather than the cooperation that can help all of our people achieve justice and prosperity. And this cycle of suspicion and discord must end."

I respectfully submit to you, Mr. President, a proposal to reconsider these targeted policies against Nigerian nationals, which contradict the essential principles of your Cairo declaration. I believe that peaceful cooperation, fruitful partnerships, and mutually respectful engagement is possible between the people of the United States and the Muslim world, and Nigerians are ready to lead the way. But you must give us a chance to build trust.

Sincerely and respectfully,

Nasir El-Rufai

While I commend any public comment by an official of the Government of Nigeria (present and past), El Rufa'is letter is just opportunistic and sycophancy. El Rufa'i, doesn't represent any good descent Nigeria and Nigerians able to use their head and brain should not be deceived. El Rufai is a typical Nigeria that can kill his mother to achieve his political aim. He presents himself as a progressive, but with due respect, he only considers his personal progressive above all Nigeria.

While I do not celebrate any of his current misfortune and trials, I take them as a lesson for any Nigerian to deal justly whenever he is in the position to do justice to all. While ElRufai was in the previous government, they have not done anything to tackle the root cause of the rampant religious and secterian violence. ElRufai, by his utterances and actions, have precipitated religious and ethnic intolerance in Nigeria. ElRufai, because of his lack of foresight, he is instrumental to the current political quagmire that Nigeria found itself. Please let us not be fooled

El Rufa'i is a typical Nigerian who rushes to say something before he thinks. Simple basic research would have told him 15 of the Hijackers are Saudi not 11. And making reference to Saudi doesn't even make sense, since Saudi has been included in the list long time ago. He should have made reference to United Arab Emirates (2 Hijackers are from their) or with Egypt (one Hijacker with AlQaeda no. 2 coming from their)
