N507billion Budget , yet a 50Km road with toll gates at every 10Km could still not be completed 8 years after? Even with an already huge debt profile of 610 billion , Bros Fashola just announced he will have to borrow more. Lagosians can you guys boast of 500billion infrastructure X 14 years? By the time Fashola and Tinubu finish with you guys, your unborn generation will still be paying these huge debt, don't forget unlike South South states that depend on oil for their allocations , Lagos depends on businesses due to its strategic position as a major entry point into Nigeria, and with the diversification of these ports, like proposed Ibaka seaport and now Akanu Ibiam international airport , Lagos may have to share patronage with these cities hence reduction in revenue . So how does Fashola intend to repay 610 billion (and still counting) debt?? This a question sensible Lagosians should ask 20 Likes |

Kudos to GEJ, for correcting the many inbalances in our country Kudos to my South East brothers who are making the best use of this opportunity created by GEJ Kudos to Princess Stella Odua for aggressively transforming our Aviation sector despite distractions and annoying criticisms Kudos to the sadists on this forum who saw this as a wasteful venture, your venom have challenged the Southeast boys to ensure that they make a statement with this opportunity . Lastly Kudos to Ethiopian airways for agreeing to take the risk of venturing into a route no one has tried, not minding the losses you would have counted if the patronage wasn't favorable 3 Likes |

Also you should acknowledge Abacha who started the vision by negotiating with the Chinese . Symphony007: your post was most childish but i'll pick out the little points you made and address them. Perhaps if you reduce the hate in your heart, you ears would have been open to hear that GEJ isn't just building new airport terminal buildings in Lagos, Enugu, Port Harcourt and Kano , but he is also creating an aerotropolis ( this means a city booming with economic activities situated around an airport terminal. would contain hotels , malls , bus stations and other money spinning ventures . Am sorry I had to explain this to you because with your low sense of reasoning you could think aerotropolis means Police station for Aero Contractors ) Instead of dwelling in hate and complaining how the luggage cart is pulled by a tractor , you should ask yourself what are the basic things that make up an airport terminal? Is there an access road and car park for intending travellers ? Yes Is there a ticketing stand where you can get your tickets and boarding pass? Yes Is there a waiting lounge with seats for you to wait for your flight? Yes Is there adequate security at the airport? Yes Are planes able to take off and land safely? Yes Are they able to take your luggage onboard and off the planes? Yes Therefore my brother you don't have any basis for condemning the airport because those luxuries your asking for evolves as a result of improvement to existing basic facilities . On your comparison of money lost to corruption , you could have also complained that Obama should buy Ferrari sports cars for their police afterall that's what is used in UAE , and America has squandered over 3 trillion dollars fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan . By the way we are still waiting to see pictures of your room and parlour and if it isn't like what we watch in the movies , then you're not fit to be a human . 10 Likes |

Symphony007: you see they same line in nnamdi azikiwe and MMA where flights take off and land within minutes of each other. Here one plane lands and the whole terminal is blocked. How does this "international airport" cope when planes that landing minutes of each other? Lines will extent into the runway? So what do you suggest? We close this tight airport till we can afford to build the kind of bus station you have in Thailand? Then after 4 years you will still come back and complain GEJ couldn't do anything in 4 years. The owners and users of the airport are happy despite how overcrowded and ugly it is, so I see no reason why you should have stroke on other people's happiness. If you don't like the airport , nobody forced you to use it, you can even avoid all Nigerian airports and take a bus to acrra and fly from there to that your fantasy bus station in Thailand. When you get there, you can lay your bed on the spacious bus station , even play football at the departure lounge and take many pictures . While you are there, am sure you will be tortured by the smiling faces of the happy Nigerians who flew from that airport as they show it in the headline news over there, so I suggest you ask for the nearest transformer , sprinkle water over it and hug it, because so many more good news you won't know how to manage is coming. agbameta: This is OBJ and Yaraduas vision and contract so the main credit really should go to OBJ because he awarded the contract and it was his vision to reactivate the railway system in Nigeria while Yaradua stopped and reevaluate the project before letting construction go on which it did and the result is what we have here today. why are you talking with both sides of your mouth? In some posts you claim 14 years of PDP leadership hasn't provided any dividends, now you are praising OBJ and Yaradua to be the best thing to have happened to Nigeria as if these men weren't PDP leaders. Let me tell you, there's no point hating when progress is made in your country because, everyone irrespective of religious and political affiliations would enjoy them. As I said earlier you can even attribute the credit to Lord Lugard , but what matters is that we all agree it's a milestone . Just like Ngige hailed the 3weeks UPS in Akwa, he and Rochas will start using the Akanu Ibiam airport for their international trips and nobody would discriminate against them as being from the opposition. If you can't blame Late Yaradua for the current ASUU strike which is as a result of an agreement he entered in 2009 and never implemented , you should also not credit him for a contract he awarded and never completed in 4yrs. Deal with it Bro , Naija is moving forward under the clueless one and you now so clueless on how to manage this barrage of good news hence you have resulted to changing names, from Eko Ile to Agbameta . Politics / Re: FEC Approves N124bn For Reconstruction Of Enugu-Port Harcourt Road, Four Others by tsomething: 9:17am On Aug 22, 2013 |
Nightshift: My take : awarding contract for reconstruction of Enugu - Port Harcourt expressway to Setraco Nig Ltd is wrong. Reason? The company has been doing shoddy work on the stretch Enugu - Umuahia section for over two decades. The reason why road contracts take long is because the contractors and clients try to make a balance between cost and time. Completing a Road project at a shorter time, would require more equipment and manpower thereby resulting in increased cost of construction. while longer time requires less manpower and equipment but carries increased risk of inflation and variations to the contract. Government due to its scarce funds have to develop a funding plan for the project, for example if the govt can only afford 20billion every year on a project of 100billion, that means such contractor would plan its programme of works for a 5 year period, but if the client could assure the contractor that it has 100billion available now for collection , the contractors would deploy every equipment in the world to complete the works within the shortest possible time so he can claim his funds . Responsible governments such as GEJ, have sourced for alternative funds such as SURE-P and infrastructural loans from international agencies to bridge the deficits in budget funds to many projects. Meaning that for example a road that is supposed to take 5 years can be completed in 2years, with the same 20billion annual budget from the FG plus funds from SURE-P and loans. The remaining 20billion that was supposed to be budgeted for the road on the 3rd, 4th and 5th years are paid back for the loans borrowed to finance the road . This is why you will hear of many projects which started in previous governments but are being completed under GEJ. 8 Likes |
Politics / Re: IBOM TROPICANA: Workers Stage Protest Over Payroll by tsomething: 7:38am On Aug 22, 2013 |
OP your story isn't true. This is more like fragments of rumours. First there are about 5 contractors on this project of which ITB is just one of them, so ITB workers having labour issues with their PM doesn't translate to closing down IBOM TROPICANA site. The issues with the workers bother on workers welfare and community relationship in recruitment. The said issue commenced on Monday and prevented only civil works on the Hotel and Convention Centre site. NAIRDA were still doing their electromechanical works on these two sites same way other contractors like Megastar, Julius Berger and Jardin were working on their various sites within the Ibom Tropicana complex . Negotiations and meetings have been convened by both parties and mediated by representatives of the state government and as at yesterday evening the workers were ready to resume work today. I haven't gotten to site this morning to confirm that claim. Workers strife is a common thing in any organization , even the most organized firms are still held hostage by their workers some times . So I honestly don't know the aim of this journalist who connoted this story without doing any investigation to see and hear from both sides, but rather threw a blanket Headline that IBOM TROPICANA workers are protesting . |

Youngtekkey: make all the bad belle see I opened this thread to see pictures of "massive construction " and being that this is Eko Ile home state , but to put it frankly, I am totally disappointed! In 2013, what kind of State Government construct such roads like this one you uploaded and still proudly uses the word "massive construction"? Even the "substandard" NDDC roads in the south-south , is still better than these works you pasted here . And to think that the governor is an engineer even shows how sad the situation is! Please my south west brothers, stop celebrating mediocrity! Travel to other states and see what "massive construction" looks like , yet they are carried out quietly . You can visit Cross River and Akwa Ibom states to see what roads should look like in 2013. This is the reason why PDP will keep on winning general elections, while APC wins internet polls. *laughs and walks out of thread * |

I guess you're one of the last people left that believe this. My brother you are still yet to answer my questions ? How has population prevented Fashola from constructing the said road after 6 years? How has population prevented Fashola from renovating the public schools in Lagos? If population didn't stop him from increasing the school fees of LASU from 25K to 250K, population shouldn't be a problem improving the quality of education there. My brother settle down at think about this seriously! Money also can not also be a problem, because Fashola makes over 20 billion MONTHLY, and still owes 610 billion ! So can you point out infrastructures in Lagos which are worth these amounts? 1 Like |
Politics / Re: Poor Road Network At Iyana Ejigbo by tsomething: 9:58pm On Aug 18, 2013 |
ba7man: You guys always use this population story as an excuse for his failures. Cairo is an African city more populated than Lagos state yet they have everything working . Lagos state is what it is in terms of economy due to its huge population , else without that, it won't be any attractive than Ekiti. If you enjoy the financial benefits of a huge population, you should also be man enough to confront her challenges. So stop complaining about population. By the way, what has population got to do with fixing a few Km of local road? Is Fashola feeding 18 million Lagosians with the money? How many Lagosians attend his public schools? How many Lagosians does he treat free or even at subsidized rate? Even the few roads he built he collects tolls on them, so in essence due to the large population you're complaining about , Fashola is able to recoup all the money spent in constructing the roads with profits. So stop spinning that population excuse ! The HUGE POPULATION IS A PLUS TO LAGOS! 1 Like |
Politics / Re: Poor Road Network At Iyana Ejigbo by tsomething: 12:58pm On Aug 18, 2013 |
damoobaba: Again as always you're speaking rubbish ! How many years will it take to complete a few KM of road, not even a dual carriage way! Even if they were to be working at night alone they would have completed it since! Aka road to Nung Udoe road in uyo is a major road people use in going to Eket which is the oil city, hence you will appreciate it's importance was completed in less than the target 18 months, (Arc Nemadi Sambo testified to this since he was the one that did the ground breaking and final commissioning). The road is a 23km world class dual carriage way complete with street lights, covered drains , walkways and even landscaped lawns on each side of the road. And guess what, not only is it toll free but it was constructed by the Chinese. To show you that isn't a rare feat, just March this year, Julius Berger started the construction of Uyo - Ikot ekpene highway and this is a major road because not only is it the gateway into Uyo , it links Ikot Ekpene with the capital city. Its about 45Km and of course a dual carriage way to world class standard because that's what Akwa Ibomites are now used to. As I speak to today, one lane has been completed for over 60 percent of the journey and the target completion is still 2014. And this a FG road done quietly without blackmailing the FG Early this year when Akpabio attended 2face traditional marriage he was disappointted about the Eket - Ibeno road and jokingly promised to transform it before 2face returns to dedicate his new child . As a promise keeper , he immediately wrestled the project from NDDC and contracted it to our Chinese friends, so with that you can go to sleep waking up to see a world class road. You guys just sit in Lagos and worship this Fashola like an idol and believe any rubbish excuses he gives to you guys for his incompetentence. Yea, you heard me well, I said incompetence! How else do you explain this! Lagos owes over 610 billion , takes decades to complete few KM of roads , or any other infrastructure for that matter , enjoys so much support from private firms in Lagos, yet still collect tolls and heavy taxes from this huge population of Lagosians. Akwa Ibom owes just 80 billion , has completed more KM of world class roads in 6 years, than the last 14years of Lagos , renovated and equipped more schools and hospitals than your Lagos , built and completed an airport, is building a seaport, building a world class stadium, completed a modern flood control project (the pipe jacking system - 1st of its kind in Africa )yet the roads are toll free , education is free even for non-indigenes (unlike some who deport Nigerians), he even stole money to buy a jet. Before you shout oil money , note Akwa Ibom budget is 470billion , Lagos is 499billion, meaning Lagos still has more money to spend than Akwa Ibom. I recommend you travel out of this your glorious Lagos and see how others are building world class cities quietly 5 Likes |

ujoinme: t- something according to the project consultants website above, the building is in three floors. is this correct? If you add the basement level parking that makes it 4 levels . The basement level has been redesigned to be an exhibition hall instead of parking. the main auditorium is on the 2nd level slab that's why you see the ramp up to the second level in the model you uploaded . The combined capacity as at design was 5000, but with the conversion of the basement level to an exhibition hall, i can say we have added another 1000 capacity . so maximum capacity could be up to 6000. Works on the hotel hasn't stalled. If you are aware The government just signed a management contract with Hilton garden inn in late may this year. So we are working with them on trying to reconfigure the hotel to match their format, since the hotel was initially designed based on Hyatt format . The new commissioner is looking at this list of changes exhaustively so as to make a final decision on some things we could leave as they are. |

It is a 4-level structure . However most part of the structure is just two levels (Exhibition hall and main auditorium ). What you are seeing now is the 2nd level slab being completed and work on the areas that have 3rd level slab. So very soon what you should be seeing is the roof slab. We are still optimistic that we can deliver this facility next year even though that's kind of a tight rope to walk on considering some little set backs we've gotten in the procurement of finishing items . |
