Japhet31: A Businessman's first loyalty is to profit. Nationalism only comes after profit. Economics and current realities do not currently favour local production of clothing materials here. Mind you, such plants are not meant to be switching from NEPA to GEN every two to three hours as the materials will only go bad mid-production if this happens.
It is part of why National Gas Master-plan was drafted during the Yar Adua Jonathan Era. it was meant to ensure smooth gas supply to all the geopolitical zones and redistributed to various industrial estates/layouts. if this had been effected/pursued to conclusion, this pour wahala of paying huge amounts of dollars in court cases may not have been an issue. Power will have been stable to some extent. if you doubt my premise. Go to Lagos, Sagamu, Ikorodu and Sango Ota, these regions have extensive gas linkages from the Nigerian Gas Company's western node in Ikorodu. Oando Gas and Power Supplies Lagos ( ikorodu, Oshodi, ilupeju etc.) Shell feeds Sango Ota, Agbara and environs... I'm not sure which of them has the concession for Sagamu. But these areas enjoy better power supply than others. I am not familiar with Owerri, Onitsha, Aba and the rest but I am sure the eastern NGC gas node is also being exploited to the maximum starved.
Now that the pioneers of this vision are out of government... I am not aware if the master-plan is still being pursued. I have not heard any mention of it in the news lately so that kinda figures.
If we will ever get it right, it can only be by tackling our challenges systemically. Not this ban aids we're employing here and there. But why are we surprised. Our populace wants results now now..else the parties will have nothing to campaign with in their next polling season.
Moreover, its the era of populism globally. We see it with Trump, Boris Johnson..... This South African President and of course down here. The deficit in infrastructure has been the challenge of Nigeria business, but this challenges were there when those textile industries were thriving. We all know when the appetite for importation and consumption of imported good became the order of the day. Yes, business is profit oriented and am quite familiar with gas network along coastal region of South South and South West of which many genuine business men considered by relocating thier industry along Sango, Mowe, Shagamu, Agbara, Sango Ota axis, but why didnt these textile imported merchants do the same despite government efforts in reviving the sector through series of intervention funds, they rather collect the money, locked up their company and started importing all manners of textile materials. That's not business but economic sabotage which government is trying to correct with this border closure |

voltron14: India's textile industry that employs 45 million people is worth 108 billion dollars annually.
UK textile industry is worth 9.1 billion pounds, employing about 100k people.
Some idiot wants us to believe 3 trillion Naira = 6 billion pounds worth of goods are at risk over 1 quarter in a year.
Who be the mumu? Buhari should just throw the key into the lagoon with this unpatriotic statement from these importers. 6 billion pound is enough to revive our textile industry but no, they prefer to turn the factories to warehouse for dumping imported goods |

Iamgrey5: Not only 3 trillion, it's 75 trillion
Awon olobe
They should tell me how possible is it that there is a 3trillion industry somewhere in Nigeria that we are not aware of.
They first claimed the border in north is flourishing, while only the southern borders are closed in order to pitch the south against the north.
As soon as they realized that is likely not to work, they are now claiming the once flourishing border in the north is all of a sudden locked up.
As a result, some imaginary business men are at the risk of losing billions of imaginary dollars May God bless you. If Textile industry can boast of 3trillion in just one quarter what stops them from using such huge money to revive the textile industry. Now i understand, after collecting bailout money from government, the same money was diverted into importation of textile materials. Where is the sense of patriotism of Nigerian business men. They prefer to import good when they have resources to produce the good within Nigeria. Just like our politicians will steal Nigeria money only to transfer their stolen money abroad to boost such country at the expense of Nigeria |

*Benin Republic has a population of 12 million people. But it is the worlds 5th importer of rice. In 2018, it imported rice worth US$996m.*
*Benin is also world's largest importer of _used_ _cars_ and __second_ - _hand_ _clothing_ . All with a population of 12m people.* *DO YOU WONDER HOW?.........* *Don't!*
*98.2% of these imports into Benin are only on transit; their final destination is _NIGERIA_ !* *Nigeria is world's largest consumer of used cars and second hand clothing, and is also Africa's largest consumer of Asian grown rice.*
*The problem here is that all these imported goods attract appropriate import duty and trade tax, which are paid to the Beninoise Government while the goods are thence SMUGGLED into Nigeria WITHOUT ANY PAYMENT to the Nigerian Government and, thereby, adding zero value to the Nigerian economy!* *Sadly, THIS IS ALL DONE BY NIGERIANS!*
*Granted, ECOWAS/CEDEAO charter allows for free trade between member states, but _on_ _goods_ _produced_ _in_ _member_ _countries_ , and NOT on imports from other economic blocs.*
*Where foreign goods are transiting through a member country, and ending up in another member country, the ECOWAS charter stipulates that the country of transit MAY collect a token trade tax, and its Customs officials should then escort the goods to the border of the importing country and hand it over to the Customs officials of the importing country!* *But what we see in the case of Benin Republic is that it collects _CUSTOMS_ _DUTY_ plus _TRADE_ _TAX_ , and then allows the goods to pass through its hinterland for onward smuggle into Nigeria!*
*This is a clear violation of ECOWAS statutes and no nation can condone such costly infraction.*
*Nigeria has tolerated this nonsense from Benin for far too long and it is time to stop the malpractice if we want Nigeria's economy to grow.* *(Therefore, whoever cries foul because we have closed our borders to smugglers while we're putting our act together, IS AN ENEMY OF NIGERIA!)*
*Nigeria makes up about 74% of ECOWAS population and about 71% of its economy. It is ECOWAS that needs Nigeria and not the other way round!*
ANY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MEMBER COUNTRIES MUST BE BASED ON EXTANT REGULATIONS! |

Problemkid1: Nigeria’s West African neighbour, Ghana, has again begged the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to rescind its decision on the closure of the country’s land border as the effect of the border closure bites harder for Ghana and other West African neighbours.
Reports say that Charles Owiredu, Ghana’s deputy minister of foreign affairs, made the plea when he met with Ambassador Zubairu Dada in charge of foreign affairs in Nigeria.
It was learnt that at the meeting, the Ghanaian and Nigerian officials discussed strategies to ease the challenges faced by Ghana over the border closure by Nigeria.
The Ghanaian minister said the meeting was a follow-up to the previous one held with Nigeria and argued that the policy by Buhari’s government went against the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) protocol of free movement of goods.
But the Nigerian minister of state told the Ghanaian delegation that their country was not the target of the border closure.

He also said the government’s action was temporary. He also said the government took the decision to tackle the nation’s insecurity.
“The meeting agreed that in order to address the concerns raised by the Republic of Ghana, a census of vehicles coming into Nigeria from Ghana will be conducted to ascertain facts and collectively device means of giving them access into the country,” a statement from Dada’s office read.

Did we question thier policy of 1m dollar to operate retail business in their country? Where was their government when their touts were molesting our thriving business men for the past 4year? Their wailing just started, that border will remain closed until 2050. Then next in line is to cut the gas supply to their country, if they think they can harass Nigerians in their country without repercussion, then they better come to reality that Nigeria has been pushed to the wall and the era of father Christmas and big brother is long gone. Nigeria is back to reclaim her glory and her foreign policy now placed Nigeria and Nigerian above other African country, we have learned our lesson with the way SA, that we championed her liberation from apartheid turned against Nigeria residents in SA |

4dbeta: I greet the house and appreciate everyone participating in this thread. Please, I need some suggestions/advise. I am a hatcher and has been successful until about a year ago when I started experiencing mortality of my fries after nine to ten days old. Before this time (9-10 days), they will be very okay, lively and healthy. But immediately they are about nine to ten days old, problems starts. They starts hanging, eat less, water foaming and massive mortality begins till almost everything perishes. I have used many suggested treatments/drugs and have tried many things yet this problem persists. Has anyone experienced this challenge and has found a solution? Please, help. Your case is quite pathetic and am sure you will overcome it. Since you said you have used medications and many preventive measures, i suspect your water source has been infected with dangerous virus. it could even be from your broodstocks. Trace your water source up to the first point of storage. Do a thorough cleaning and do the same to all the connection pipe that carries water to your hatchery. 2 - 3day sundry will destroy any residue pathogen remaining. Further cleaning should be carried out and hatchery water disposed off should be treated. There should be a clear separation of disposed water from hatchery. The above suggestion will give you a wonderful outcome provided your water parameters meet hatchery requirement. Also check source of your broodstocks and avoid inbreeding |
