Jobs/Vacancies › Re: The 8 Most Annoying Mistakes In Your CV by Tunagee(m): 11:45pm On Jul 28, 2018
Linzo:
A woman who has reviewed more than 40,000 résumés outlines the 8 most annoying mistakes she sees

• Résumés are a crucial part of any job search.
• If you want to land your dream job, you'll need to whip your résumé into shape.
• Résumé Writers' Ink founder Tina Nicolai shared some tips on how to go about doing that with

Résumés are important
No one knows that better than Tina Nicolai. She estimated that she has read more than 40,000 résumés since launching Résumé Writers' Ink in 2010.
That's a lot of CVs. Over the years, Nicolai says, certain annoying mistakes tend to come up quite a lot.
Some of these errors may not seem like a huge deal. In a competitive job market, though, they might be the difference from snagging your dream job and having your résumé thrown in the garbage.
Here are Nicolai's picks for the most annoying mistakes you can make on a résumé:

1. Sloppiness

"The biggest mistake job seekers make: They are sloppy. They pay poor attention to detail. They are lazy!"
Nicolai said she has seen too many résumés with typos, unprofessional fonts, outdated information, and irrelevant information.

2. Summaries that are too long

Summaries are annoying when they are written in a formal tone and include too many adjectives, she said.
"After a while, the summaries can read like a lengthy chapter in a book," Nicolai told Business Insider. "It's better to list a few bullets with pointed achievements and a branded tagline stating, 'Known for achieving XYZ.'"

3. Too many buzzwords

Résumé jargon such as "out of the box," "team player," and "exceptional communicator" are "baseline expectations in today's market," Nicolai said. "A person who truly is a 'unique problem solver who works well in teams' will convey this succinctly and creatively on their résumé through a combination of few words and imagery."

4. Starting a bullet point with 'Responsible for'

This is another "lazy thing" she has seen too many times on résumés.
"Candidates need to understand that starting a sentence with 'responsible for' tells the reader what the job requirements were supposed to be, but it does not state that the candidate actually performed the functions," Nicolai said. "It does not state that the candidate was successful in these functions. Don't be lazy: Take the extra few minutes to explain what you accomplished — not what you were expected to accomplish."

5. Being too formal

Finally, she said she finds overly formal résumés annoying because they're not engaging and don't allow the reader to get a good sense of the applicant's personality.

6. Sticking to a template

Nicolai says too many people rely on résumé templates, which are readily found online.
"Templates are designed as a guide and not intended to be used as a cookie cutter," she told Business Insider. "Think of a template as a suit. A person wears a suit and adapts to his or her personal style. A résumé template is a framework to showcase your personal brand and most importantly your achievements."

7. Using awkward white space

"More often than not, candidates use too much or too little 'white space,'" she said. "Cramming too many words on one page with tiny margins and small font is annoying. And, on the reverse, having oceans of 'white space' with words justified to one side or the other of the resume is equally annoying."

8. Taking up too much space with your contact information

You should not be using four lines to list your name, address, email, and phone number.
"Save face by removing the address and condensing your name, phone number, and email to one line," Nicolai said. "Using your resume real estate (lines) is valuable and should be used for related achievements.

Griezwoman:
Nollywood actor, Emeka Enyiocha who recently shutdown his beer parlour, and staged a comeback to his first love-acting, after many years of staying off the stage has offered explanations for his action.

The playboy actor was spotted at the birthday party of Fidelis Duker’s wife, Temitope, which held last Sunday, at their Lekki, Lagos residence, and he was ready to share his story with anyone that cares to listen to him.

Enyiocha disappeared from the screen few years back to open a beer parlour, in Surulere. The beer parlour was bubbling until recently, when he decided to shut it down.

Explaining to Nollynow, why he shutdown the beer parlour, Enyiocha, who dressed in traditional Arabian garment, said, “I don’t want to work for other people to eat.” According to him, the people he entrusted the business into the hands were mismanaging it, forcing him to close it down. He said he has no regret operating a beer parlour.

On why he disappeared from the screen, the handsome actor said he left the industry because of his family.

Listen to yourself pal, how can you come up with such. Some of these people were lied to, and if it wasn't for the poverty, why would anyone want to undertake such an arduous journey, or are we not victims of the corrupt policies of past and present government.

They refused to use their brains to be productive to themselves, even in the midst of harsh realities. Also, they are not the only ones affected by the corrupt policies. U don't start running to a land of death cos of poor leadership.

Did u say sympathy for our people? Pls cut that crap. Did they have sympathy on themselves and their lives for deliberately going through the dungeons in search of greener pastures?
Business › Re: NAICOM Gives Insurance Firms Deadline To Raise Capital Base To N15b by Tunagee(m): 12:29pm On Jul 27, 2018
dipoolowoo:
By Modupe Gbadeyanka

Insurance companies operating in the country have been directed to increase their capital base to N15 billion from N5 billion.

Business Post reports that the last time the insurers were asked to raise their minimum capital was in February 2007. It was then said that Tier 1 firms should have N5 billion capital base; Tier 2, N3 billion; and Tier 3, N2 billion.

At an emergency meeting with Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of the 57 licensed insurance companies on Wednesday, the industry regulator, National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), said this was in line with the Risk Based Supervision (RBS) model which requires a composite insurance company that intends to be a Tier 1 player to have N1 billion capital base.

The model also made it compulsory for a Tier 2 player to have a minimum solvency capital of N7.5 billion while a Tier 3 player is expected to have N5 billion minimum capital.

According to NAICOM, the new capital base will take effect from January 1, 2019 and under the new era, life insurance companies under Tier 3 will only be licensed to underwrite individual life, health and miscellaneous insurance; while the non-life under this category will be licensed to underwrite fire, motor, general accident, engineering (only classes covered by compulsory insurance), agriculture and miscellaneous insurance.

Also, life insurance companies under Tier 1 will be allowed to underwrite all Tier 2 risks and annuity; while the non-life firms in this category will be allowed to underwrite all Tier 2 risks and oil and gas (oil related projects, exploration and production), and aviation insurance.

In addition, life insurance companies under Tier 2 would be licensed to underwrite all Tier 3 risks and group life assurance; while the non-life firms in this category would be allowed to underwrite all Tier 3 risks and engineering (all inclusive), marine, bonds credit guarantee and suretyship insurance.

It would be recalled that a similar thing was done in the banking sector some years ago, which resulted into smaller banks merging to meet up with the N25 billion capital base.

Business Post reports that this same scenario will likely play out in the insurance sector with this new N15 billion minimum capital required from insurers in the country.

Smaller insurance companies will likely form an alliance to meet up while bigger firms will likely acquire others to become bigger.

Speaking on the matter, Commissioner for Insurance, Mr Mohammed Kari, who was Kari, who was represented at the meeting by the Director of Supervision at NAICOM, Mr Barineka Thompson, assured that no insurance company’s licence will be withdrawn.

He explained that the move was necessary because while inflation and interest rates had increased in the last 10 years, insurers were still operating with the 2007 capitalization.

“Interest rate has gone from single to double digit, interest rate has increased over time and with many macroeconomic and institutional factors on the upward trends, while the industry still maintains the same capitalisation in the last 10 years.

“So, it is desirable for operators to now choose which tier they want to operate in. Some companies are finding it difficult to fulfil their obligations to their policy holders and shareholders because they are carrying risks above their limits,” he said.
